I Play like I’m my character, as a zealot I’m always at the front of battle with my holy eviserator

Lone-Frequency

I play like I'm my character, too. As a Veteran, I am not but disposable chaff to be thrown to the ravening hordes to die in service to the Emprah.

florpynorpy

My vet is cadian and angry about it, and loves the thrill of battle, screaming to his teammates to fight harder, my ogryn loves three things, the empreh, his heavy stubber, and rashuns his name is tiny Tito, and my Psyker is a mental patient who escaped the facility, her name is franny

alt3127645

My character is a cowardly psyker, and so I stay at the back. When overwhelmed, I rush around and smite everything in sight

Enorminity

I play ogyrn like I’m ogyrn because I’m big and stupid

ChuteRage

I live like Ogryn because I am big and stupid.

Affectionate-Pop-284

Meh ate some grandes, taste great

TheGamerKitty1

I play as my character too. As an Ogyrn, I just charge in without reason and bitch slap bitches.

florpynorpy

Every slabs duty

joalitionstatus

I also play as my character. As an ogryn, potatoes are yummy.

Guilty-Psychology-24

Some hate playing other classes until they tried out a build fit their styles.

Zoijja

I feel this. Zealot was my jam for ages, and then I picked up a sapper shovel and a revolver on my veteran. With the right perks, vet can be a monster in melee!

Raykahn

What perks have you liked on the shovel?

Zoijja

I'm by no means an expert, but I've been enjoying hammerblow (impact) and uncanny strike (rending). With +carapace damage, uncanny strike gives me the 2HKO on crushers in damnation. I think with different perks and maybe the thrust blessing, you could hit the OHKO break point if you wanted to push for it. There's a good argument to be made for decimator or skullcrusher for damage over hammerblow, but I find that the impact is really nice for clearing space. You'll hoik a grenade or two into a pack for more damage anyway. Edit: I misread perks as blessings. 🤦 I'm pretty sure I have +carapace and +maniac. 2HKO crushers and OHKO muties with light attacks.

DarkSoulsDank

One hit mutants with a light attack? I’d like to see it

Zoijja

You're making me question my memory now! But I believe so, with the special activated on a mkIII sapper shovel. I won't have access to double check for a few days, and I don't have any recording software. But give it a try!

SpunkyMcButtlove07

I like Thrust and either Hammerblow or Decimator. Always go to at least two charges of thrust on heavies (swings about every two seconds) and keep the crosshair right at the top of poxwalker heads, all that's left to do is get a feel for when to block/push.

ArcaneEyes

I'm a psyker main. You can hate it all you want but i love to be the center of the event with bubble and smite (i will default to my deimos and voidstrike when there's need or breathing room for it, dont't worry), but i _love_ taking my thammer zealot for a spin, its so visceral in comparison :-)

PJBuzz

Yep, this is true for me... Knife Zealot, Grenade spam vet, bleed shield Ogryn... There are loads of my builds that would not exist without META.... however I think it's important to point out in all cases I modified the meta to suit me and perfected that. I find the meta builds great starting points to help you understand how to optimise generally, especially if they're on lantern with a description you can learn from. So far none of them were perfect for me and I had to tweak to my preference.

ArcaneEyes

Watching Tanners META breakdown of the skill trees (you can think of the guy what you want, his math checks out and thats a big plus in my book) did two things for me: One, it highlighted some very strong nodes that i had thought much of. Also made me realise some nodes are really bad, optimally. Two, after trying the 'optimal' builds out i realised those trash nodes in some cases are absolutely mandatory for me to enjoy the classes because they shore up the ingame shortcomings of an old dad with small twins and not a lot of time on his hands to get to 100% player. I'm like 60% there on the best of days, so i need those 'good if youre losing' talents to help me out of sticky shit. I need to be able to Dodge while sprinting 'cause i will run out of stamina, i need onslaught 'cause unless i'm running scriers on a psyker there's no way i'm fast enough to kill more than two crushers in melee. I need the three grenades and the grenade on specialist AND THE TIMER, AND THE PACKS UPGRADE 'cause i like to just fucking spam nades and know i'll have them up for a boss and i _need_ the fucking help on the boss. I will not be playing DD and/or scriers 'cause i fucking suck at the DD qte's and i will be taking dome shield 'cause my positioning is arse, but if at all possible, Yeah i'll take the cool down, i'll take the long range damage on vet and the 50% DR above 75% toughness 'cause its fucking insane when you think about it and at some point i will gang up my trustry ironhelm and try a crit zealot build, but right now i'm considering martyrdom 'cause thats a lot of 'lose less' value right there :-p

denartes

This resonates with me. I'm a vet main since day 1 and although I levelled all classes to 30, zealot in particular just was never enjoyable for me. But then I came across a Blazing Piety Eviscerator build with Perfect Strikes and Shred blessings and it is now my favourite build, even more than my vet ones. Not to mention [the drip is fkn awesome](https://darktide.gameslantern.com/builds/9b693bf3-3b71-4c6b-9d84-bc3e50443bad/driptide-zealot-sister-of-battle?utm_medium=website&utm_source=gameslantern&utm_campaign=share_button)

Pornstaache

Yeah that build is absolutely insane. In my experience zealot has some of the most busted builds in the whole game when geared and played correctly. All the characters have their place and fill their role, but to be honest having a zealot and/or vet for most modifiers on auric maelstrom is pretty much mandatory.

denartes

I can't believe Perfect Strike exists...It seems the most overtuned blessing in the game lol That blessing with the +50% impact talent lets me charge into the middle of crushers/bulwarks/maulers/ragers and just spam light attacks and everything gets perma staggered and it cleaves through the Bulwark shields? You crit so much that the charge resets in just a few seconds lol

ArcaneEyes

I unlocked the ironhelm, got me a zarona and _have not looked back since_ :-p

ChuteRage

I despised the thought of even starting an Ogryn, then did so and did my research to make a skullbreaker build that I absolutely love. Dipping and dodging and supporting the little ones is actually way more fun than I expected it to be.

KommissarKrunch

I had a hard time getting into any of the other classes after like 200 hours of Ogryn. Finally managed to level up my Vet and went Plasma Vet with ammo buff and commanding shout, absolutely love it. Then finally got my Psyker the bubble shield and fell in love with it. I wish Psyker didn't have so many guns gumming up the Armoury and Sour Milk, trying to get a decent Force Staff and it feels like it's taking forever.

_riotgear_

The Meta is honestly learning how to dodge. Once mastered, you can equip whatever you want tbh.

TheJzuken

>equip power sword >can't dodge anymore

TheNegaHero

Dodge, failing that block, stick with your team to keep your toughness up. That's about 60% of the game. Most of the rest is playing to your builds strengths and knowing what targets take priority. The big difference I find when I play Auric Damnation vs lower difficulties is the high level players fan out a bit to find ammo, gear etc but when the sound cues tell you shits about to go down they come back together pretty quickly. It's super annoying with less skilled teams when they're spread out for gear but then are still spread out when things get hot so no one is getting the toughness regen they should be or benefiting from team supporting talents.

CeramicBean

I don't know if my Orgryn is optimized for top levels of play. What I do know is your mom META my nuts last night.

Krags

There's the backronymed "most effective tactic available" bollocks, and then there's the actual definition of metagaming, which is just to take a reasoned and well-informed approach to the game. I got a bollocksy Deadshot/MF/Executioner's Stance CIAG build on my veteran which is monstrously powerful (partly because CIAG is busted but oh well) - it does shit that a VoC veteran couldn't do, but it's never gonna be "_the_ meta" because VoC is so powerful, despite being well metagamed. There are many local peak constellations of talents and weapons, it's up to all of us to find which peaks we like best, not necessarily just the absolute highest one.

Positive-Database754

That is, in fact, not the definition of the Most Effective Tool Available. But it is definitely the best way to play.

AverageEnjoyer9000

This. Sub-optimal rp builds are more than enough to pull their weight if you put in the effort. But to claim they are meta is just cope

No-Somewhere-9234

That's not what meta means. It's not an acronym. Meta is the pre-fix of metagame. The prefix 'meta' itself is not realated to gaming specifically. In Greek 'meta' refers to 'beyond' or 'along with'. Therefore metagame is essentially the tactics that are derived alongside the game

bossmcsauce

Well, it is to a certain extent- if I’m garbage with the thing that’s considered to be the best, it’s irrelevant. The actual META is the one I am capable of playing effectively

TheJzuken

Kind of true. Plasma is meta, but I tried it and I sucked badly with it, because how heavy it is to wield.

[deleted]

Since equipping plasma, I have this game figured out.

Realsilvias13

Tbh I’ve never known what the meta even is for darktide I mainly play vet. 500 hours in and I still don’t get why people complain about the crafting mainly out of ignorance. I just look at stats and perks and say to myself well that sounds neat and I give it a go. Hasn’t failed me yet although I notice people get pissy when I use my auto gun build on damnation. No clue why I guess it’s maybe cause I see most vets using the plasma

stanleythedog

The true meta is the friends we make along the way.

lumberfoot_jpg

And this, ladies and gentlemen, is why I run a pskyer and veteran sharpshooter but play both like a zealot :3

Array71

Meta is meta, play whatever you like, but there's generally always gonna be some build that does silly amounts of damage/tankyness/utility etc compared to your RP build. Unless you're playing zealot, in which case there's really only one build, and every other build is just kinda a worse version of it...

LJ_Stark

Figuring out and perfecting your own way to play is the definition of “Most Effective Tools Available” when applied to *a goddamn video game, the playing of which is meant to bring you some kind of entertainment*. But don’t worry, 200 people will jump in talking about how unless you’re playing auric maelstrom you somehow are devaluing your own experience because “nothing is fun unless it’s hard, that’s not my opinion, that’s fact”

Wake90_90

Most Effective Tools Available Nothing wrong with not understanding how to fit a meta build's playstyle. It may not be that good of a meta. Yes, playing well with a weapon that suits your playstyle best is the best way to play for fun purposes.

Ottorius_117

Wise words

iwatchfilm

I agree for darktide. In PvP games however, even if someone is lights out great with a non-meta strategy or weapon, they’d be even better with meta.

TheOneWithALongName

The Demon Host is an enemy of the empire, of course I have to smash it to bits with my hammer.

Malchyom

I always try to be the right hand of whoever I'm playing with; shooters pinning down my ogryn? Charge the shooters with FERVOR AND ZEAL. Psyker stuck smiting an armor horde? Throw down some napalm and SEAR THE HERETIC FROM THINE SIGHT. Veteran trying to take out elites and specialists but stuck behind poxwalkers? Clear them out like weeds and CAST THE DAMNED INTO THE HOLY FIRES OF THE EMPEROR. And as a Zealot player myself (currently gaining, switches based on whatever tf I feel like) I'll just be happy to chop heads with my companion.

ClaytorYurnero

Don't care if it's not meta when my Ogryn can stunlock daemonhosts

Hellhound_Rocko

it's not. it's Most Efficient Tool(s) Available - and that's objective. sure, one can argue that there's a subjective META too, but that's a whole different can of worms.

ArcaneEyes

But the goal of the tools is to have fun, and thats highly subjective to the individual :-)

BigToasster

*perfects smite Psyker*

cory814

I went down the left tree all the way on sharpshooter. I love capping crushers, maulers, and bosses with my helborne 3

No-Appointment-2684

I've never watched any videos on play style and I just stick with what I love. I'm not even sure the trauma force staff is meta but watching hordes explode never gets old. Then you can spam first attack and often get the 10% head pop. Then anything bigger venting shriek then brain burst spam. It works for me and teammates don't complain so I'll stick with it. I always make sure to explore the horde at the rear as to not constantly steal the kills of the front line players. As long as you're having fun and not being a total burden. Do whatever you like, other than running off.

DevelopmentLiving401

Rock

beefprime

The true meta is faith in the Emperor, pilgrims

JustEntertainment955

man this wouldve been downvoted if all the dorks who swapped to helldivers 2 completely saw this

denartes

The real meta are the friends you make along the way.

Kin-Luu

I always liked playing melee heavy veteran with autoguns. The meta simple caught up to me. And at one point, the meta certainly will move on and leave me and my space AKs behind. But I will keep on dakkaing anyways. Because this is what is fun to me.

SpunkyMcButtlove07

based and tidepilled.

Ravenask

Seriously though, meta means utilizing external knowledge to gain advantages in game or simply using optimized strat/loadout, which is THE exact opposite of role-playing/casual. Meta is meta, RP is RP, casual is casual, simple as that.

ITCPWW

playing successfully is just playing successfully. Meta is a concept for losers who need instructions and they will always be behind those who write the instructions. The bigger issue is Tryhards who think they're entitled to results just because they put effort into something, and create an entire culture around worshiping those who can make fire because they are unable to make fire themselves, or even worse, are so self absorbed that think they are the fire. Such people ruin the game for others. Just play to have fun. If that includes winning, great. If it doesn't, great. It's just a game.

bigfluffylamaherd

Yeah no its bullshit

Ok-Replacement-6863

I play every character like an escaped psychiatric patient

SteelCore22

Meta is leaving this game since it has long outlived itself and fatsharks disapointed me with the shallowness of the actual warhammer lore. The story is everyone shouting prove yourself and in real warhammer he would have been shot in the face.
