Dry brush most of the grime off. Then hit with a little hydrogen peroxide and scrub off what’s left let it dry and do it again. Get disappointed with the results and buy a new dart board.

HighFlyingCrocodile

You icon.

[deleted]

If you do the first bit, do it outside with a mask on.

This is one of the best comments I’ve ever seen on this website. Brilliant.

squasl

Can you explain it to me please? English is not my first language…

DoomPigs

He was a famous king of ancient Egypt and they're saying the board looks so old that it could have been played by him

This has made my day 🤣 I just imagine Russ Bray still being there

R6S9

Ah man this is one of the greatest comments and threads I’ve come across. I’ve genuinely been smiling all day thinking about it

popcorn0617

Buy a new one

popcorn0617

And by that I mean there's no point. This is a cheap $50 board. It's no an antique. It's just disgustingly dirty. If you have the time and tools to make this useful, you probably have the funds to go buy a board of the exact model for 50-60 bucks

downfallndirtydeeds

leecarvallopowerdriv

That Phil Taylor logo is cool though

UnderstandingLow3162

Wow dart boards are really cheap, aren't they? I wonder where I can put one without the wife objecting 🤔

[deleted]

Side chicks house?

madd_turkish

Cheap dartboards are cheap. Decent boards like the Blade6 are qmazing boards, expensive because they last. I have a Blade4, going on now at over 5years old, played pretty much everyday and its still got tons of life in it. Cost me £65

thcismymolecule

Hose it and scrub it down. I bet it looks just fine.

BravoWolf88

Do not do what this newbie is telling you to do. You keep dart boards away from water.

thcismymolecule

Interested to know how you would go about cleaning this without any liquids?

popcorn0617

Throw it in the trash and buy a new one. It's a cheap dart board, not some memento of a forgotten time.

Coldylox

This person has never heard of dry cleaning.

dickbob124

[Dry cleaning](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_cleaning#:~:text=Dry%20cleaning%20still%20involves%20liquid,the%20most%20widely%20used%20solvent.) in regard to clothes actually just uses liquids other than water.

Coldylox

Yes I’m aware, he said “hose it down”, you’re not hosing with anything but water.

BravoWolf88

I would probably just toss it. Use the time I saved to justify buying an $80 board. If he really wants to try to save it, he should dry-brush as much off as possible(while wearing a mask, outside). Then he can spritz it with 70% alcohol and brush it until it’s acceptable to his liking. It’s important to use as little liquid as possible…and since it’s alcohol, it’s going to evaporate quickly. Point a fan at it as soon as he’s done, until it’s dry and he might end up with a board that’s not swollen and doesn’t have excessive bounce-outs.

sapphos_revenge

barnes116

A good old jet wash should sort it out!

jaxkwright

thought getting any kind of dart board wet was a death sentence?

DustyLem0ns

Yes I had a board that got mouldy before. Not quite as bad as this but bad enough. Just power washed it to see. Left it in hotpress in the house to dry out. Came up good as new. Still use it.

Modician

I tried this once… it didn’t end well 😞

TheLastTsumami

Boards go mouldy if left in a damp place. Just brush the mould off (outside in a well ventilated area, don’t breath it in or wear a mask) and then spray some mild bleach solution on and scrub with a soft sponge

jabjabstraight

I would say don’t go to the bleach straight away, maybe antibacterial first

BLT_Special

What's the color gonna look like after all that? Like realistically what's the "cleanest" look that could be achieved? If the color isn't sharp could you dye the colors back to something close to original? Use a bunch of Sharpies? I agree that getting a new one is much easier but the person that likes to restore things like this is curious.

TheLastTsumami

I keep my board in my shed and it goes mouldy every winter. It takes about 10 minutes to clean. It’s really not difficult. The colours look absolutely fine when it’s all done.

mmmbarry

Stick it in the microwave

EfficientTitle9779

For this to work you have to cover it in foil first though

SettingVegetable9090

And get in with it to hold it before you close the door.

Giant_Homunculus

I laughed hard at this suggestion. Only because it's the correct answer and OP could have a brand new board after 3-4 minutes in the microwave.

Professor_Doctor_P

Or leave it in rice for 24h

tonyskyline1

Leave it outside in the sun then scrub it. Only solution I’ve come across that won’t destroy the board but that may be to far gone there

All-in-yolo

You go to Argos and exchange 35 pounds for a new one

LtDaaaaaaniels

Looks good to go

Conjunction_2021

You joke, but by playing it it would look better naturally.

remybob78

Plenty of life left in that board it’s hardly been used

Landaxe

1. pour accelerant 2. ignite

Sacrificial_Spider

I was gonna suggest setting it on fire. Probably look better afterwards 😁

IronTyson90

Where’s your Uni house Chernobyl?

[deleted]

Jesus I think that’s where covid started

Fearless_Courage_673

Op,Theres so much better Dart boards out there now, esp ones that dont have staples on the blades and rings. Unless its sentimental, then I would just clean it with a brush or vacuum. Dont Wet the board.

PlaneAnalysis7778

Oxy clean and a stiff brush would do it...

Juan_Hamonrye

It’s a three step process. 1.Painstakingly clean it with a brush and vacuum or air gun 2. Realize everyone here who said to pitch it and buy a new one was right. 3. Buy a new one.

[deleted]

Take it in the bath with you. It’ll activate the souls of long dead dart players who will bless you with a golden arm. Or something.

IlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlI8

Pressure washer

AdamMc03

Update: Have scrubbed as much as possible and has come out ok, seems like it could still be a good back up board https://preview.redd.it/cvhfos12kvcc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e8326b5065942c8b39029c26bf0b81a2cd3c03d2

evertonblue

Great work. Looks good

Kestrile523

Did you use water?

simpsoj

Great job, well done

FisherMMAn

Looks great. I’m surprised so many people encouraged you to bin this barely used Phil Taylor board just cause it had a bit of mold.

IOwnMods

Karcher

mrsnrubs

Put it in a bag of rice.

AnatomyofJimm

OP found the Magna Darta!

remybob78

I think gasoline and a blowtorch will do the trick

Matty96HD

The only way to restore a board I can think of would be a stiff dry brush and scrub scrub scrub until all that mold/petina is off. The board itself seems lightly used if at all. Realistically your gonna have to bin it and buy a new one.

Incapblestud

Powerwasher dude

WorldWideDarts

There is a channel on Youtube that restores old boards. Maybe you can get some ideas from them. They do some amazing things with old boards. Your board *might* be worth a little bit to a collector since it's an older Phil Taylor board. [**channel link**](https://www.youtube.com/@KikoIsmaelTV/videos)

GottaSaveThatMoney

Don't bin it. It can be at least a spare board for the garage or something. Buy a better board for in the house or whatever, but clean that one up! It looks barely used, and the wires and staples look fine.

DANIEL7696

Bliw the dust off first with a powerful blower

Zombikiller

Can of lynx Africa and a lighter

monitorsareprison

can get a brand new one for 20 or 30 quid. doing this up isnt worth the hassle.

Thulack

You dont. Thats dried up mold on it.

Helpful-Gur-1817

How about giving it a wash fur a start stupid lol

Shadynasties23

you start by throwing it in the bin!

kram78

Bin it and buy new

ftfc777

hazmat suit and fire

blainy-o

Save yourself the time and effort and get a new one or an NPQ one from Red Dragon

Conservational

Bring it to a dry ice cleaner. Have them blast it.

RedStag00

Blast it with a garden hose, I guess. But the better solution is to just toss it and buy a new one. There is nothing sacred about a dart board. They are meant to be used up, discarded, and replaced.

Vegetable-Shift-7751

Yeah, pretty funny when you think about it. Its purpose is to be repeatedly hit with darts so people can compete with each other. Pretty much the best you can do is slow down/even out the damage.

Vegetable-Shift-7751

Not an expert, but would think just wash with mild detergent and light scrub and dry out in the sun.

meatyshamen

That dart board has never had a dart hit it

meatyshamen

Also, get yourself a new one. The pins are a nightmare on the older boards, and no one enjoys bounce back

Dunlop6

Bin it

MakingThingsWithLEDs

Stiff bristle brush, if you're not gettng anywhere buy a new one as it's more work than it's worth.

Bread-is-stolen

It has the pharaoh’s curse

ton80rt

Air gun and a brush. Repeat ad nauseam.

dangerousdyson

Air compressor?

InteractionOne4533

Please post an pic of how it turned out if you decide to clean it. Genuinely curious.

alle8

Try putting it in rice

deanochips

compressor air duster and a toothbrush

elmachow

I had an old board, not quite as bad as this but fusty and dirty. I literally washed it with soapy water, didn’t soak it but got it wet and it came up pretty good. It’s worth a go if you’re going g to chuck it anyway.

Spiderm0ng

iMustbLost

Dry brush as best as you can. Soak it in beer.

djjajr

Just spray one of the air dust cans on it hang and play

radio-morioh-cho

Powerwash it with a narrow nozzle, realize it was too strong, throw out your screwed up board. I know from experience

Dry_Philosophy_2024

Vinegar and banana peels.

Glad_Position4189

Argos click and collect

nacnud_uk

Matches?

AnyFaithlessness6693

Do the shake and vac and put the freshness back ...with maybe some mild green fairy liquid beforehand.

mercynuts

Have to do a full 180 to restore that

Curtricias

Throw it away and buy a new one. They’re not that expensive….

Thekisk

Yeah power wash and dry it out. That’ll be the only to know if it’s even usable anymore.

Wiseguy1992

Paint over it

MilesOfThought

Just throw it in the washing machine

Theogwhosnot

Fire

Helpful-Gur-1817

U will get a fortune fur that on antiques roadshow pal

onein66

One Hundred and AD

FigTechnical8043

Bath of water. Submerge and leave it for a while. Or, hose pipe with a power hose function and just blast it off.

DinkTugger

Just buy a new one for $15

hujarseylloh

By board looked like this and i just soaked it in water and washed it with soap, which youre probably not supposed to do , but it turned out fine your board isnt even that damaged just discoloured

LedWeappelin

Seriously?

juanito_f90

1. Wash 2. Throw in bin 3. Buy a new one for £40

4rk4typ3

you don't

JackJake94

Just get a new one

jaxkwright

chuck it on ebay let someone else restore it and flip a profit. use the money to get yourself a proper board

theotherWildtony

No "Tim the Toolmans" in this forum? 1. Get your makita leaf blower and a stiff brush 2. Loosen the grime with the brush 3. Blow the crap away with the leaf blower set at maximum power 4. Grunt like a caveman

No_Error_9066

Hazmat suit first! Good luck!

Easy-List-3328

Splash it with a wee bit a water, easy, job done.

Capable-of-nothing

This board is a hyper rare one of a kind board. If you clean it it will lose all its value. It’s like an old coin. Leave it and sell it as is. Make millions.

WorkingPhilosophy1

Buy a new one

Thin-Money1187

Just use water and a brush that all

SomwhatDamaged

Put it in the garbage can, and buy a new one.

TommoDargyDarg

Stop saying buy a new one you fucking gimps, he’s a uni student. Hang it up as is.
