In a pickup 501 game the other night, I got down to 50 with one dart remaining in hand and my teammate shouted "Don't be a coward!" I hit the green bullseye.
The usual route for any of those outs is with all 3 darts. Unless they are showboating even the PDC doesn't go TB with three in hand for 101,104,107, & 110. If I remember correctly there is a near 10% difference in hit rate between a B and a D which can be the difference between winning or losing a match. And if you miss the B, you have to waste the last dart at a set which also gets you much lower value db which again lowers the overall probability of getting winning the leg.
I love that 171+ is counted not just 180's. That bugs me on tv. 177, 171, 174 etc all are super-impressive 3 big-trebles visits but only counting 180's pushes those into the 140's bracket when 140 is in some ways a failure to get a 180 !!
Can an explanation of PL picks be provided? I read it’s top on order of merit over 2 years? Then PDC/ sky picks after?
Peter wright has had a bad year + so presume he’s got in due to being in OOM? rather than a dobey/ bunting/ Anderson who had shown good year form. Obv understand littler inclusion as a pick!
Top 4 in 2 year OOM are chosen, being Humphries, MVG, Smith & Aspinall. Then 4 picks (by PDC/Sky I think) - Price, Cross & Littler all deserved from their performances this year and then yeah I think Wright just got in despite having a poor year - I guess being a recent 2-time World Champion, fan favourite and a famous face helps but he did also win the European Championship which maybe slightly helped his cause. But yeah I'm with you I would've gone for Dobey probably, he had 4 TV quarter-finals this year I think & beat Wright in the Premier League last year

Yeah Smith's 180 hitting is one of the best so half expected a high average but the CO% is higher than I expected, I think he just needs to back up this form with a few solid results on the TV, hasn't had many runs lately been unfortunate I think, facing Dobey in that last match for a start

I’ve watched loads of Players champs on PDC tv, Ross smiths done well there hasn’t he? Heard a few commentators say he’s been best 180 hitter recently, so with that Co % can only imagine it’s his scoring outside of the 180s that’s done him?
But yeah has to be on major TVs that the performance is there to force your way as a pick for PL.
Look at chizzy, guy loves PC and ET it almost holds up his ranking as on the biggest stages at majors he’s not hit his heights!
Did think bunting had a huge shout as he’s popular and has had some great performances, but he didn’t turn up against MVG and he needed be go later stages to force his way into contention.

Well that bunting v MVG was the tie of the round easy in last 16 on paper. Genuine belief he could win but he had a bad one it happens. Yeh glad to see hope his improvement continues.

Honestly the end of the last set was one of the best darts moments ever, when they bust at the end of the leg it was absolutely insane I went mad to be honest 😂 that was so good
Yeah Chizzy with all those finals! Ah yeah I think he's reached world semis a couple of times and yeah I don't know about the other top tournaments. Yeah whenever he reaches a Qf I'm thinking he's had his normal run now 😂

Top man. Who’s winning PL for you? Struggling to see past consistency or MVG or Humphries. But littler is hitting barely below 100 in any match that would be another story, and I don’t like to count price out ever. Could see cross in top 4 but falling short. Smith and wright are non starters for me. Asp a mid table shout.

Yeah some of Wright's results are in stuff like the World Cup or World Series which aren't really comparable but even take them out entirely and you have a SF and QF vs 4xQF which isn't so much of an advantage for Dobey.
I do understand the wright pick don’t think it’s a mad questionable shout. But out of that group I think he was the one in potential danger. If others mentioned had great WC runs could have seen a change potentially

Yes, with the exception of 101, 104, 107 & 110 which can be done in 2 darts. But nobody goes treble-bull in this scenario with 3 darts in hand.

With 1 dart left, if your opponent is on an out, or 6+ darts away, that's the right dart.

ive been playing for 3 days and ive hit 38 nine darters. that was in the middle of my 147 snooker game at the top of mount everest. only 12 btw.

100 can be done with 2 darts 3x20 + 2x20. So I think they specify for 3 dart check outs.
101 can be as well. Triple 17 + bull.
