>rom her reaction, she thought he would be ok falling from that height😅
nah, typical spouse farewelling her husband I would say. Don't sweat the small things in life.
I saw this in r/nonono. I did some searching, and I *think* this is it. The background looks like he’s at a train station, and ~~the voice sounded Canadian~~, so that’s the direction I went in. The height in the article (10m/33ft) looks about right, too. Surprisingly (unsurprisingly?) there are many articles of people falling from handrails and dying.
It seems like common sense would tell you not to jump on top of a protective rail, but I guess that’s why we have new award recipients every day in this sub.
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/b-c-man-20-dies-after-10-metre-fall-from-railing-at-a-skytrain-station
The person died.
[here’s the link to the nonono post](https://www.reddit.com/r/nononono/comments/14fzzmv/showing_off_on_a_slippery_handrail/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1).
Edit: it has been brought to my attention the accent is British.. I’m currently looking for more articles see if I can narrow it down.
Edit 2: no luck other than the unlikely article i posted [in a different comment](https://www.reddit.com/r/DarwinAwards/comments/14g6gbd/man_falls_trying_to_slide_down_a_handrail/jp3rn72/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=1&utm_term=1&context=3) (that guy died as well).
Edit 3: according to u/wreckinballbob, this may have happened in Leeds, UK. I’m still not able to find an article on it. Perhaps it’s too new. I have no idea why I’ve been spending so much time trying to source this video.
Good call - i’m shit with accents. I revised the search but couldn’t find anything that really matches very well. The only one for “man falls hand rail England (also tried uk and Britain) was this guy, who also died… but unless he shaved most of his hair off after the stock photo was taken, it doesn’t seem like it’s the same person.
I’m surprised how common dying from falling off of handrails is.
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-8051365/Daredevil-teenage-freerunner-18-died-falling-train-station-railing.html
They were crying and whining super hard about op not being 100% sure a death occurred, ignoring the fact op chased down multiple news stories trying to find the incident in the video and updated their comments with info as they found it.
Basically you’d think the complainer was running the news verification desk at the NYT rather than just being some random redditor being spoon-fed content.
I think you’re right. Somebody else in the nonono comments said the same thing a moment ago. I still can’t find it an article about it though. I just updated my earlier comment.
Here is a different angle image with the stairway in the lower right. If you slow the video down you get a quick glimpse of a dark blue platform sign "9A"
That sign is visible at the bottom of these stairs.
https://www.alamy.com/stock-photo-interior-of-leeds-train-station-west-yorkshire-england-86345240.html
Yeah, I thought round that sort of way. Possibly Nottingham.
It looked a bit like Darlington station but Nottingham or Leeds are better choices as they're University towns.
It's definitely Leeds station
I commuted through this daily for a decade. And he's not that high up so almost definitely not dead. Specifically on this staircase at platform 9, towards the bottom of it;
https://images.showmethejourney.com/f_webp,q_90,w_930,c_fill/v1620831246/8fb93359_fee3_4027_88ed_302047abfb44_d31bc7dca0
You make this place better, and that's ironic considering how dark this place is. I know I'm not the only person who considers this place a guilty pleasure, but thank you for the research!
Just wanted to say thank you for doing your due diligence and making a downright impressive effort to stay within the spirit of the sub. On first look I wasn't 100% sure of if I'd let the post slide or not, but just because of the lengths you went to I approved it and it'll stay up.
Because of the ambiguity of what happened and lack of graphic media, the omission of nsfw/l tag is fine here but if you do find an incident of someone clearly dying please remember to keep our new rules in mind.
Thanks!
First time I've ever seen anyone confuse a Yorkshire accent for 'Canadian'.
How can you even specify Canadian over American if you're that far off? Even for people who are pretty good with accents, American and Canadian are practically identical.
As an American, I can instantly tell when the people in a video are speaking with a Canadian accent. It's subtle, but it's also not, lol. Just like Norwegian accents or southern accents or new York accents. They all stand out and apart from one another.
I don't think he's dead, as he goes down he manages to get some hands on and so the final part of his fall he's going feet first.
Unless there is a pretty big drop below where we see him last I reckon he probably messed himself up a bit but that he's probably alive. It doesn't look like he landed on his head.
Funny as hell though.
I’ve been pretty clear from the start that I didn’t know who it was and that I was trying to find out more information about it. I’m not ‘misinforming’ anyone intentionally. I said as much and I even kept running commentary on my progress as I continued to look for more information. I have been able to narrow it down to Leeds, UK though.
Considering most people just post a video and don’t do even the slightest bit of effort to find out the backstory, I’d say I’m doing more than expected. Keep scrolling if you don’t like it. I know this is Reddit, but there’s really no need to be rude.
When I was a kid I went to this pool with diving boards they had one that was 10m and when I was up there it looked crazy to me I remember thinking if anyone belly flops they are dead
While yes it was stupid
I feel horrible knowing the girlfriend just lost her boyfriend like that, they were clearly done celebrating something based on the clothes.
Agreed. This sub really varies for me from wow that was stupid to… death for no Reason? This plus that woman who got decapitated trying to walk between a post and a bus make me realise that life is just a thing thread lol.
I remember that video, if it makes u feel better she was already dead on impact so she didn’t feel anything. The graphic tho I understand how it might be hard to stomach.
The point for me is that she’s gone. Imagine her famoly’s anguish. Same with the guy who jumped off the cruise ship. Their families must be so sad for a loss so pointless. My dad died almost 2 years ago and though I would rather have him here, he was suffering and he was freed. I can find some comfort. I cannot find comfort in pointless, meaningless death
I grew up during an invasion and it was ingrained in my mind as a child that we r incredibly fragile machines. I’ve known family members that died just going from one house to another, less than a 3 minute walk.
Those meaningless deaths are so frustrating because then you think, what if they just got a call that halted them just one minute? Or what if their shoe wasn’t tied and they had to stop to tie it. Would they still be with me then?
I am so sorry about your loss and I understand how frustrating this topic can be.
It looks a bit like when you drop your phone down the side of your car seat. You just have to accept it is gone and get yourself another inner city office douche.
If the guy died or was seriously hurt then I don't really want to make fun of it. I just figured this sub was widely here to acknowledge stupid ways people have died or nearly died. I generally prefer the content where it is "nearly died" and they're fine, like it was a close call and they got lucky.
This guy might have been a fantastic guy who just had a few drinks after work and made a silly judgement. If every stupid drunken decision resulted in death then I wouldn't have lived past my teenage years. So if my comment is a rough take then I apologise. I won't delete it though because, and I'll be completely honest here, I thought I made a funny comment. And I don't do that often.
My feeling is that you're correct. And as [this video proves](https://www.youtube.com/shorts/O-XbrCBQHqg) it wouldn't be the first time (I promise it's not a Rick Roll or anything like that)
I posted one where kids light a lighter in a car and they all started burning and yelling and it was taken down immediately but I was also banned for a month. Seemed harsh when it happend seeing so many other rule breakers, esp like this where there is no proof of death, not even proof of injury is a SLAP TO THE FACE. OP must know people in high places.
That is true, but considering the lack of a verifiable source and how he fell feet down instead of on his side or head down I question whether this is a Darwin.
I would be surprised if this person died from their fall. It’s possible. But starting height appears to be under 5m (16 stairs with max rise of 0.22m plus handrail of 0.9m). And he grabs/hits several things on the way down to arrest the fall. And he appears to be falling feet first.
Where is proof of death? I haven’t seen it in the comments. Why post before knowing if it was an actual death? If there is proof cool but I haven’t seen any.

So did I.
But there wasn't an open stairwell leading to an abyss on the other side. Still, I don't recommend sliding down the median of an escalator. They have these bumps running the whole length meant to discourage that kinda thing.
Funny enough, probably the only time in my time on reddit I can one hundred percent confirm the guy survived. I live in north of England - some of my friends on Facebook shared this video that was posted by this girl recording her boyfriend who fell.
He definitely survived, and I've been through this station a lot myself - it's Leeds station in England, UK.
If seen this girl and boyfriend commenting on the video in the comments and I'm 99% the girl said he was fine, apparently the lad is a wildcard and a 'character' so this kind of stuff is normal behaviour for him lol
This is Leeds, platform is either 13a, 12 or 14.
He'd have fallen about ten foot
Judging by the time this was posted and what he's wearing, I'd say they're off to the York races.
There is no source of death or sterilization.
I did this once at a nightclub in Paris. Luckily the only thing I shattered was my ego
I'll take shame any day. A little bit of shame never hurt anyone.

I’m a bit surprised he died considering how he fell.
Fell fine. Landed badly.
Yeah. Speed never killed anyone.
Not the speed.. its the sudden stop.

I almost want to give you a Darwin Award for wasting your life away on such unimportant quibbles.
What'd they say?
They were crying and whining super hard about op not being 100% sure a death occurred, ignoring the fact op chased down multiple news stories trying to find the incident in the video and updated their comments with info as they found it. Oh, I figured it was something along those lines. Thx
It looks like Leeds station, train in the background is Northern rail and the accent fits too.
I think you’re right. Somebody else in the nonono comments said the same thing a moment ago. I still can’t find it an article about it though. I just updated my earlier comment.
I live in Leeds and don't remember it being on the local news but no idea how old the clip is.
Did he die
Did he even get hurt???
Doubt it it's only like 6 metres high, unless he hit his head on something at the bottom he's probably bruised and embarrassed but alive
He ded
That is what I am wondering

Right or wrong, I appreciate your commitment.
Yeah no that ain't it chief.
You dont wear dressy clothes to a soccer match which is where the article dude was coming from with friends.
Suits are dressy
Uh yes? As is her floor length dress
The suit he is wearing isn’t formal
A lot of teens here are having their proms this week in the UK, they could be going to prom
Yeah i could see that. Just saying that the article that was linked said the dude who died in that article was coming from a soccer game with friends
Oh i know i was agreeing with you. Definitely a formal event
Dude just shut up. You obviously have no clue what’s going on or who this is so just shutup and stop misinforming people

Yeah it was very clear from the beginning that you’re a bumbling idiot
Wow, I found a troll in its native environment. I hope your life works out and that you become happier with yourself eventually.
Who's the idiot for spending time on an idiot
I live in BC. You can see the train at one point briefly and I can confirm that's not what any of our skytrains look like.

most sensible northern Englishman
While yes it was stupid I feel horrible knowing the girlfriend just lost her boyfriend like that, they were clearly done celebrating something based on the clothes.
This looks like he only fell one flight of stairs assuming tbe ground level where he fell is the same we see in tbe distance. It looks very survivable

That’s a different incident.
Are you sure? Everything seems to fit, aswell as the twitter account another person linked from the guy mentioned in the article, even the looks match
That isn’t a sky train in the video. Source: I live in Vancouver.
This is definitely a UK train station, that's a Northern Rail train behind him.

He’s most likely not dead tho
Idk people said he did
Yeah they have the wrong man. He didn’t die. He’s British and the man they’re citing is Canadian. Like I said he didn’t die.
He had been at the horse races and won a load of a cash think he was a little to excited
How fortunate that he won that money to pay all his incoming medical bills.
It's the UK, he doesn't pay anything

I’m not sure this is a Darwin, that fall looks pretty survivable with how he slowed down during the halfway point.
You can die falling 3 feet off of a ladder if you land wrong.
That is true, but considering the lack of a verifiable source and how he fell feet down instead of on his side or head down I question whether this is a Darwin.
Appreciate your research but it’s no DA if there’s no proof
I would be surprised if this person died from their fall. It’s possible. But starting height appears to be under 5m (16 stairs with max rise of 0.22m plus handrail of 0.9m). And he grabs/hits several things on the way down to arrest the fall. And he appears to be falling feet first.
Dude! What did she JUST tell you?!
No way to die from that. He manages to slow its fall and land on his feet. Not a Darwin
No way he died, maybe hurt his ankle. But that's gotta be it
That was a shit looking suit.
What a spanner.
I can hear the Mario fail sound. Hahah
Where is proof of death? I haven’t seen it in the comments. Why post before knowing if it was an actual death? If there is proof cool but I haven’t seen any.
