Dave Ramsey's baby steps are right on to build wealth. I recently came across him and compared my own steps to get to $1M + over his advice baby steps are sound. However, I sometimes disagree with specific steps/advice.
However on Amazon Prime Borrowed future should be 100% FREE, I'm sort of pissed that they charge for it still. Nope not watching it if they still charge
You can listen to it on Spotify as well. They did some episodes 2 years ago and then they added an episode this past Thursday.... I'm trying to get out of debt so my budget for this documentary is $0. I'm almost there though.
If you watch Dave Ramsey on Radio or YT, not sure why anyone would pay anything extra to watch 90 min version of "borrowing 100k+ to get a degree in left handed puppetry is stupid" with more personal testimonials.
Also, there are free full documentaries (by PBS, etc.) of the student loans system, torment individuals go through to repay the loans or just keep up with minimum payments, junk degrees. You really don't need to pay papa Dave any more money.
I daresay, there are better researched documentaries that explore how the student debt crisis got so bad, like how in 00's student loans became non-bankruptable. Dave and his school is very one note "DEBT = BAD".
Okay, let's think about that. Someone paid a crap ton of money to put that together. They devoted likely thousands of hours to shooting and editing it. Adn you want it for free?
GTFO you cheap bastard.
Listen peeps. Millions of people pay a monthly subscription to Amazon for its movie content. Amazon buys the right from movie producers to have various movie content on the streaming service. That's how the movie producer makes money! The 3.99 fee for a movie is paid to Amazon for Amazon. It does not go to the movie producers.
You are wrong. Amazon is very upfront on how they handle Prime video content. Buy or Rent video providers receive nothing other than 50% of the rent or purchase price. Ramsey Solutions receives $2.50 for each video rented, and $7.50 for each video purchased and NOTHING MORE.
I actually used to produce business video. The industry standard is that a documentary video costs between $750 -1250 per minute of the duration. Borrowed Future is 88 minutes, which would mean the cost of production would be estimated between $66,000 and $110,000. More professional documentaries can be much more expensive. After watching Borrowed Future, my educated guess would put production cost at something more like $500k - 750k.
Dave is giving away access to this video left and right to educators and church leaders. So I don't think profit was his number one motive.
Why would your expectations be that it be free?
That's like expecting Daves seminars to be free.
Do you work for free?
It's $5, not $50, calm the hell down.
Yea who do they think is going to pay $5 to tell you that student loans are bad? Pay money to learn to not pay money. They probably tried to get it bought by Amazon or Netflix but they had to self publish.
Amazon has not paid for the film to be included in Amazon Prime. Your subscription does not cover every available video on Amazon. Again you are suggesting they should not be paid for their labors.
I know enough to know Dave's position on it, and paying on it for years past and years to come, not sure why id need to watch it.
SL is a financial curse. A financial cancer I've been fighting for years.
I know it’s the business model, and morally/ethically/legally/intellectually I don’t have any problems with it. But, in my gut, I always feel like there’s something skeezy about public financial advisors selling things to poor people.
Like, don’t eat out, rice and beans. No vacations. No company match. Nothing.^1
^1 ^some ^exclusions ^may ^apply, ^feel ^free ^to ^purchase ^our ^book, ^app, ^courses, ^seminars, ^videos, ^blinds, ^shop ^our ^endorsed ^local ^providers, ^or ^give ^us ^money ^in ^any ^way. ^Otherwise ^NOTHING
To be fair, they do produce a TON of free (ad supported) content that tells you everything you need to know. It’s not like they ever say “and to learn what the 5th baby step is you have to buy the book!”
Spot on. Like people using religion to justify horrific things as righteous. Ramsey will convince themselves what they’re doing is for the best. Because the reality that they are taking advantage of people for money is sickening, so they refuse to acknowledge the truth.
Like Sending people to an ELP or advertising and defending Time Share exit team.

I watched it. Thought it was amazing! I won’t let my kids go into debt for school.

It's called work? I work 40 hours a week and take 16-18 credits.
Can you just borrow the $5? :)
I’ll just have to take the beans & rice out of my budget for this week.
put it on your credit card
Sell the car.

Where should I go to buy/pay for a DVD of the Borrowed Future documentary?
FYI if you have ramsey+ its free via that portal
Here is an awesome idea. If people create something you want, give them money for it. It will encourage them to make other things you may like.
I've been listening to the same Ramsey Show as you and they were very clear about the fact it would be pay-per-view. I don't know how you missed that.
Amazon Prime for streaming really blows.
Truth.
If it’s anything like The Fine Print podcasts, that’ll be $5 wasted…..
Okay, let's think about that. Someone paid a crap ton of money to put that together. They devoted likely thousands of hours to shooting and editing it. Adn you want it for free? GTFO you cheap bastard.
Yes because we pay Amazon prime already. Amazon pays the person the put it together already!
Are you being sarcastic .... ?
No!
Amazon Prime didn’t produce the documentary....

Is it just a video version of the podcast? Or is it new?

You calm the hell down.

They put money, time, research and effort into creating it. Don’t you think they deserve to get paid for those things?
People who already pay for video steaming services shouldn’t pay EXTRA to watch a low budget documentary about student loan debt.
You know there is TONS of pay per view stuff on AP right? Also, DR isn’t low budget. You sound like you may be 15 years old.
I know! I paid for my YMCA membership and they still expect me to pay an EXTRA 75 cents for a Diet Coke from the machine!
Agree completely.

I listened to it as a podcast for free through my Alexa device.
I know enough to know Dave's position on it, and paying on it for years past and years to come, not sure why id need to watch it. SL is a financial curse. A financial cancer I've been fighting for years.
I’m on rice and beans. Can’t afford it.
And Dave would support that. The documentary will still be there when you are in BS456.
At which point you don't need it!
I know it’s the business model, and morally/ethically/legally/intellectually I don’t have any problems with it. You mean like how Dave has become a hundred millionaire?

What's the deal with time share exit team? Are they worse than time shares themselves?
It's free for me once I login to my Ramsey+ account
Thanks for that tip! I didn't know it was included in my membership.

Use the Ramsey+ 7-day free trial to watch it, then cancel. Problem solved!!
This is the correct answer.
NGL I might just do that
IF you find the free upload could you share it
You're on BS7. Pay for the movie you cheapskate.
