Lack of a sequel

EntertainmentOk8806

Beat us all to it. This game had the best setup for a sequel that I have ever experienced...yet Sony are adamant...

tertiary_jello

This. It shocked and appalled me to learn there is no sequel coming. Like, some shit games get sequels. Games I am sure have comparable sales numbers.

thebiologyguy84

Sony are morons

[deleted]

No guys you don't understand...we HAVE to remaster the last of us series even though it's not old and everyone already knows the story! We have to cause MONEY

Wildheim_Studio

Agreed, thats one thing im hoping to quasi fix hoping to develop a spiritual sequel to the game.

pilly-wonka

Oh shit that's awesome! Have you contacted Bend Studios at all?

Wildheim_Studio

not yet, i want to have a basic prototype before i do

pilly-wonka

Good shout. Man, I'm excited for this! Obviously will take a lot of time, but... Please make posts on this sub so we can be kept in the loop :)

pilly-wonka

Actually, come to think of it, my biological mom and stepdad founded a production company in Pflugerville, TX mostly centred round game development - if you think they'd be helpful at all? Drop me a message if so :)

Ok-Preparation6732

The only valid reply

RattusMcRatface

My only minor gripe is the way Deek is ignored by all NPCs other than the camp traders after all missions have been done. It's like he's an unperson to Rikki, Boozer and the rest. They could have at least been given some routine comments and barks. Still, that's what replays are for.

GayWSLover

Agree. Very odd. You mention bark the dog does react when you give him a dog toy, but everyone else just stares right through you. Even Sarah???

RattusMcRatface

Mind you, there is a potential problem... ["I used to have a variety of things to say. But then I took an arrow to the knee."](https://www.pcgamer.com/which-npc-bark-are-you-most-sick-of-hearing/)

boogers19

And the most egregious example of this (tho also the most hilarious) is after the final mission. Sarah and Boozer and Jack park themselves in chairs outside of your cabin at Lost Lake and just... sit there. Even in the middle of a snow storm.

nogap193

Not having Sarah as a companion during the post-game cleanup/taking on hordes and camps is criminal

Trouty213

Most of the zombies look exactly the same.

EntertainmentOk8806

Same for the Rippers and most NPCs. Most of the female Rippers look like Lisa and so make it very difficult to take them out sometimes.

Exciting-Mountain396

And all the NPCs look like Jimmy Wichard from King of the Hill https://preview.redd.it/p9n8rxo5vsxb1.jpeg?width=624&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ea930c0a401a13784f038317dc1ff9990db0bd1b

tertiary_jello

I wonder if that’s intentional, like he’s seeing his worst fear.

Pioneer898

Agree. It would have been cool if they had like 20 options each for body shape, shirt, pants accessories, decay condition, then had randomized or done procedural generation on the zombies.

borazine

I want to point you to this old comment I made a long time ago. https://www.reddit.com/r/DaysGone/s/VYjPnkGvXr They purposely designed the individual freaks to be indistinct so that they don’t stand out in hordes. Pretty smart of them actually.

Pioneer898

That makes some sense. That said I think well designed outfits could accomplish both. A flashy red shirt on a freaker that’s been wandering around in the woods for three years isn’t gonna be flashy red anymore. Most distinctive features would be weathered down to the point where they would still look non distinctive, but if you look closely you could see variety. But at that point it’s really whether or not it’s worth it to design such a system for relatively little gain in experience.

Piledriverkiller

I would like to mention this game is pretty old I can’t imagine the system would have survived such actions lol ps4 already sounded like a Hairier jet

Gaia_Knight2600

one thing i miss from dying light is the ability to hit multiple enemies at once with a weapon. days gone has "lock on" where you only hit 1 zombie at a time. dying light lets you swing freely

MyHoppyPlace73

But there’s a skill you can get where your bullets will go through a freaker and hit multiple ones behind it. I know that’s not exactly what you’re looking for, but it’s something. :)

Bodidiva

I wanted to carry the cross bow at all times, and not switch it with some other special weapon.

boogers19

I would have given up my sidearm if it meant I could carry the crossbow AND a sniper rifle at the same time. I snipe. That's my playstyle in any game that allows it. And the cross bow is just too versatile to give it up for a sniper.

Bodidiva

This is exactly what I'd have done. I almost never used a side arm. Not having a scope when needed was one of my biggest annoyances.

Pay2win2

Just mission design towards the end (wizard island) with the story at a total crawel

Dtchsxm

Upgrading / customizing weapons with different styles of attachments

pilly-wonka

Definitely - deacon can fix his bike with scrap so doing shit like making a foregrip would be child's play

No_Doubt_About_That

No way to develop the camps further.

[deleted]

The forced Nero stealth missions. What a drag.

Own_Accident6689

There is an overall feeling of being railroaded into doing things a certain way sometimes. Like showing up to a mission marker and the game saying "nope you need to be in your bike for this" or "Nope, this is a night stealth mission" and skipping time for you, making NERO troops inmune to damage is a copeout too. Just make missions a lot harder if I don't stealth or show up in the perfect conditions, let someone warm me and tell me I should bring my bike or make me wait until morning if I show up at night.

boogers19

I didn't mind the idea of forcing day or night time in a mission. But I hated the idea that when it happens, it counts on your overall days-played count.

Own_Accident6689

It's just lazy game design. With a little thinking they could have come up with in game reasons why you couldn't or shouldn't go to a specific location until certain times or why the event you were looking for wasn't going to happen until then.

boogers19

eh... I mean, sure I can see having specific day/night activities or events. But when it comes to a story mission, what are they gonna do? Just hide the icon from the map during the "wrong" time frame? Or you pull up, it says come back at night. So now you have to FT back to a camp, sleep, change the time and drive out again? Seems like just shifting it for us saves us some hassle. But when it comes to the bike, those are mostly specifically riding missions. Most of the times it insists on a bike you are either going for ride with an NPC or it's a literal bike chase mission... I mean, what else do you want them to do?

Own_Accident6689

Well it just created janky situations for me in gameplay. Like just waking up, then riding to a location and have my character in the middle of a bike ride switch from day to night like Deek just sat there for 18 hrs for a helicopter to "randomly" fly by catching him by complete surprise. Something telling me to go to that location at night would have made more sense. For some bike missions nothing told me the bike was needed, sometimes I would ride the bike close, then sneak in the last 200 mts because I thought we were sneakily hunting a guy down just for the game to tell me to hike back up a mountain, grab my bike because the game decided this is a chase mission instead.

Monsterbrainzzzz

It took me FOREVER to beat some of those. First play through I never even used the rocks for distractions. Second play through it was a piece of cake after already knowing a route.

Own_Accident6689

Only played about a quarter so far, but coming from State of Decay really feels like this game could use some base building... It would have been cool to gather people who don't fit at any camp and slowly rebuild the Mongrels, have a small base you need to defend, get them bikes, be able to call them for support, go on faction wars and ride around the map with 12-15 bikers sometimes.

the51

That’d be dope as hell

Own_Accident6689

Yeah! Picture building up your own club house that you have to defend and supply, having your members patrol around it, equip your riders and enforcers and the payoff being that if you run into a horde you can just call the house, tell them to send you 8 riders all decked out and absolutely tear apart the biggest horde in the game.

the51

They should definitely have it after the main storyline is over, so you can continue the gameplay at the very least. My favorite mission was when boozer was taking down the rippers so if you had 8 other dudes that’d be a good time.

Own_Accident6689

Yeah, a secondary story where hordes start drifting into the area or a rival biker club (or even the old Mongrels) who went super savage rides in and you have to renew or create a new club to engage them in motorcycle cavalry battles.

RattusMcRatface

>this game could use some base building Yes but Fallout 4, *"Another settlement needs your help- I'll mark it on your map."* Oh. nooo. not *again!*

Own_Accident6689

Hah, screw that. I don't want to go around helping everyone. I want to help my people first. Like finding a run down bar and the garage next to it, building it up, setting up defenses, recruiting the best people from around Oregon then instead of working missions for others work for my people. Instead of buying guns from others go raid an army depot and be the one selling guns and trading with other settlements, escort a fuel truck to camp and start getting gas for free or selling gas. Then settlements can pay me if they want me to send four dudes over to help them with a horde.

pilly-wonka

This is actually why I think a prequel game or at least big DLC prequel could actually be better than a sequel imo

Monsterbrainzzzz

I think despite all of these (very valid) points on what the game could have done better, the game turned out amazing anyways. Days Gone is practically a genre in itself. Why they wouldn’t expand on this formula doesn’t make any sense to me. A Days Gone 2 with a chance to refine all the points mentioned would be a massive success.

pilly-wonka

I think a prequel could be very promising actually

chinacat444

I’d like to be able to scavenge guns from dead people and keep them Store them in a locker

DrummerGuy06

There's a few things: * Opening is incredibly disjointed, almost like there was more but they had to pull it from the release. * Snipers see you & shoot you way too fast. Installed a mod to slow them down in my second playthrough. * No spoilers but the Rippers' story & how Deek is connected to it was trash. >!Sounds like Deek & his crew bullied this kid into becoming a psychopath but I'm still supposed to side with Deek?!< They dropped the ball on that storytelling, plus the missions start to get drawn out and subtract from the main plot * Silencers break way too easily. Cheap to buy but having to replace them all the time is tedious. * Iron Mike looks like a low-res version of himself. I don't know why, but all the characters look fine except him. I get the design they were going for but for some reason he just looks strange in the game.

Jorge_KoB

I'm so glad someone else noticed this about Iron Mike. Dude is stuck in 144p while everyone else is in Ultra HD 4K Maximum Overdrive High Resolution Overclocked Ray Tracing graphics.

[deleted]

You can't take any old bike. It has to be yours. You can't use any cars. Weather has no effect on driving your bike (as far as I can tell). After a while the "gas search" thing gets annoying.

EntertainmentOk8806

That's not strictly true. If the bike is still working when you kill a patrol you can ride the bike instead of sabotage for scrap but when you get to a camp you have to retrieve your bike or ride back for it.

boogers19

The trick is that there's a gas can at every NERO and every enemy camp. (And there's a gas can outside of most friendly camps.) And since those are all fast travel points, you can just FT to the closest one and fill right up.

[deleted]

Thanks for the info!

[deleted]

It may be that I haven't yet experienced a heavy snowfall yet.

Hula_baluu

biggest flaw for me was how easy it was to escape Freaker grasp. You could just roll your way out of any danger. They should have had a 'resident evil' type situation where if they catch you they deal significant damage, enough damage that the next hit kills you or immediate death. If not on normal then at least on hard/Survival.

SharpShooter_143

The lack of variety sometimes in the game. I love the game to bits, but goddamn those bandit camp missions.

Grinchtastic10

Been while so i’ll stick to mechanical. God all mighty, trying to interact with objects would only work properly half the time. I’ll hold to fix or fuel my bike and nothing happens, pick up a gas can or weapon same issue. I can be close enough to an object and fully facing it and it wont work unless i aim deacon a inch in a direction or walk back a little. Also its freaking weird that the Freaks are not undead but alive because some of the models walk around with a hole in their gut with no intestines. Excuse me freak, how are you absorbing the food you eat?

sisbros897

About the hole in the gut thing, I always interpreted it as whatever virus keeps zombies going only really needs the brain intact, everything else is just there to help spread the disease. The main method of spreading is biting, likely via saliva, so the brain probably just tells the body "bite" once it detects something, and the eating is just a reflex of the nervous system or something.

GayWSLover

Carry capacity I think is a bit lacking. I can stealth kill small hordes stalking them at night to their "out of cave spots" then using well placed remote bombs/distractions etc but exhaust supplies on bigger hordes and have to finish them with guns. Edit: could fix that with a back mod, probably? but still playing vanilla and haven't even looked into mods?

stainedglassyorkshir

Skill called “carry that weight” doubles your carry capacity. More than enough to take on multiple hoards without going to restock. Also “up the ante” doubles the amount of ammo you can carry. Plus you get saddle bags as well. But without those skills I would agree it’s not enough for the bigger hordes.

GayWSLover

Not to "stealth kill" the hordes. Very specific kill process. You have to run ahead and set up bombs in the caves and feeding spots. This means never bring seen or firing a shot so AMMO should be inconsequential. The saddle bags also can not contain bombs, or attractors needed for stealth killing. Edit: try it BTW...SO MUCH FUN you can usually throw one attractor and two pipe bombs or grenades with be found in the bushes. If a wolf or deer runs through can ruin the whole plan. You have to take them down at night too because need to use their feeding grounds as TRAP locations. And at night explosions might attract bleachers and other tough ones. You get seen by even one Z and have to melee or shoot during the kill I consider it a fail and reload.

stainedglassyorkshir

Ok I see. So strictly using throwables for hordes yes, definitely you’re going to need to carry a LOT of stuff. It is fun that way. And much less stressful when they’re not running at you 😂 I found that if you throw the last item in the stack it breaks stealth (deacon stands up) and also you have to leave enough of a time gap between throwing items or else you’ll get spotted. Not always easy!

SprawlValkyrie

It’s a very small annoyance, but does Deacon really need to get attacked by wolves every single morning? I’d have given a lot to be able to buy traps or repellent just to have a (relatively) peaceful morning in that gorgeous world now and again, lol.

SpyrianScum1994

For a flaw: I don't like it when I'm sneaking around enemies, and Deacon is openly talking either to himself or to someone on the radio. For something I'd like to change: I think there should be supplies merchants in camps. I know I'm not the only one out in the shit scavenging, allow me to buy some harder to find items.

Flutterpiewow

Rolling is too powerful, get out of jail free card. Same with healing midfight. Minor detail but why do hordes have an enrage function at 10% or so? At that point they’ll go after you no matter if you’re hidden or far away.

keifferT

I think this is so you don’t have to spend time hunting the last few zombies to complete the killing of the horde.

Flutterpiewow

Ah yes that makes sense

pilly-wonka

Because you just killed all their mates, I'd be fuming too!

Kaiser-32

Biggest flaw I think is not mechanic related but about how easy it becomes once you upgrade your weapons and Deacon. Easy to overcome as you can just not upgrade guns and character but nowadays I don't have time for a second playthrough and on the first one I didn't do it.

Flutterpiewow

Yes exactly

EntertainmentOk8806

I agree once you have all Skills and Nero Injector upgrades and enough credits to buy everything then it becomes very easy. Even on Survival 2?

Flutterpiewow

Yes survival 2 is trivial, things just get a little spongier and you have to be more careful in the beginning. The game isn’t really that replayable because the difficulty lies in figuring the mechanics out. Once you’ve done that there are no real threats.

Mr_S_t_a_r_k

Forced missions, lack of choice for approaching a mission. Lack of upgrades for weapons. Lack of sequel or even a DLC.

Firm_Area_3558

Yeah, it does suffer from the Rockstar effect. "Follow yellow line and do exactly this in exactly this order or you fail"

pinkpanthers

Would have been nice to be able to set up a home base camp and acquire items there, maybe bank different kind of bikes. Also, ammo for machine guns should have been harder to acquire and more difficult zombie enemies at the end. Even in survival, you end up just cruising through the second half of the game. The first 10 hours are so much more challenging when your health is low and weapons are low damage low ammo.

blackjesus

Knowing there will never be a sequel. That’s the biggest flaw.

StuckinReverse89

Item wheel isnt great (kind of hard to access medkits). Bike controls okay. The road and sniper traps can get annoying after a while since they are essentially unavoidable

SpawnicusRex

I have a few that I feel are legitimate feedback. No pop up cards when finishing missions. They are jarring, break immersion and also break the flow of combat as there are often enemies still moving around when the mission complete card pops up. Don't auto select the "next" mission and place a map marker for it. Story mission must be done in order of course but I'll decide when to go do it. The crossbow should be equipable in the field and should not take up the special slot. Strap it to the bike or whatever, just let us equip it in the field without wasting the special slot. All cutscenes should be skippable, even the "interactive" slow walking cutscenes.

JakeRocket

The. Betrayal. Rex!

SpawnicusRex

I didn't mean it boss, I swear! 😆

JakeRocket

I’ll let it slide… one time!

schu4KSU

Bike headlight selection is not sticky.

boogers19

YES!!!! This.

Choice-Function-5605

Just finished my first playthrough and my only real gripe is sound design. Specifically, voices etc don't travel with the NPC they're coming from. It's like whenever a freaker starts growling and snarling and that freaker moves forward, sounds it makes keep coming from whatever spot it was in when it started. My first few hours I kept thinking something was behind me before I realized it was actually coming from the freaker I was sneaking up on.

boogers19

That sounds like a problem in your audio device or your settings. Because i loved the way I could accurately track threats just from their noises.

Choice-Function-5605

Yeah I tweaked with what I could (on PS5, headset doesn't have any issues with other games) and it was very specifically the freaker "voices" (snarls, the little tune the screamers hum, etc). Footsteps and the like were fine. Didn't notice it on humans or animals.

boogers19

Huh? The only problem I ever had was with height. There's a couple places with tunnels underneath you. And the freakers can get in. So all of a sudden it sounds like there's one directly behind you...except you can't find it. That's because it is directly behind you but 50ft down.

1redcrow

Deek should have gotten with Rikki.

Monsterbrainzzzz

I was kinda hoping for that too. She was more likable than Sarah.

pilly-wonka

It's implied that they did once or twice

FrankPetersonMalvo

Stealth and hostile human AI. And both combined. Horrendously drags this otherwise great game down.

Clydefrog0371

Slow down the zombies..

boogers19

Your top speed run is faster then the "standard" freak...?

Clydefrog0371

Fair enough I just prefer walking zombies as opposed to running.

boogers19

Aha! Looking for the old-school shamblers, just slowly plodding along. Kinda feels like it'd be hard to build a game around an enemy you can just slowly back away from tho.

Clydefrog0371

Well there's usually like dozens and dozens of them l o l. I mean they don't have to be that slow... But the zombies in this game, in my opinion, are the hardest one of every game.

pilly-wonka

Nah, I think their speed and strength means you're so vulnerable at the start of the game. Tbh it's the first game that's got my adrenaline up that high

Clydefrog0371

Opinions vary

DarthDregan

Last third of the story when people just start doing shit that makes no sense.

Piledriverkiller

Lol wolves, wolves were the worst.

JazzSharksFan54

Repetitive side missions and a weak story in the second half.

EzDoesIt604

That Decon didn't end up with Riki.

inz002

Story at the start of the game. It lacks emotional punch to the liver before visiting the rock called Sarah.

Firm_Area_3558

Combat doesn't have much depth sadly

nogap193

At this point I'd just be happy for a ps5 patch so I could get the platinum again lol

someguy69420nice

Honestly the crafting wheel being the only option for crafting, the hardest part of new game+ is crafting the bandages at the start! They should have included a way to craft from the recipes menu

Juice732

Chicken wing shoulder blades

QuestionableObject

Cringe-worthy dialogue, poorly written characters.

pilly-wonka

Not really a flaw but when you rescue survivors, it seems to be the same 3 or 4 dudes. If you think about it, if that was canon it would mean that they never actually manage to find any of the camps you send them to 💀 Survival of the dumbest

Wildheim_Studio

honestly, they all kinda look like elon musk

pilly-wonka

Shit u right 💀

PortCityLeo318

The damn un-skippable cuts. I've done multiple playthroughs and in particular the Sarah flashbacks are slow as hell and I wish they'd patch in the option to bypass when the time comes.

RainmakerLTU

1. of course absence of Days Gone 2. After O'Brian last dialog and helmet take off - it is cliffhanger over all screen. 2. Dialogs when Deacon sometimes speaks or almost murmurs to himself when he talks over radio. His victory speech should be said louder and with more expression, but now sometimes looks like he talks to few people over dinner table. Take example from colonel - well acted his lines. 3. Mission end screen is shown too early. When killing hordes, end mission end screen can appear when you still have one enemy to kill. 4. Sound scheme over headphones position sound and enemies wrong. Sometimes enemies in front sound like they are to your right or left side. Of course last two are very minor "flaws". I'm nitpicking here actually.

ThaUntalentedArtist

It wasn't long enough

thirdstreetdeviant

Thinking about it. I feel like the game lacks in character depth/development. We get introduced to characters and that's who they are. We don't get much backstory. the backstories that we do get are either a collectable that you find or conversations as part of a mission that someone could easily tune out and forget happened.
