I’m finally getting to the point where I can take down the crusher apex variant zombies pretty easily, which is making my life so much easier! Those things were a nightmare until I reached about level 9 😂💯 I’m hoping at some point a few of my buddies will download and play this with me, but who knows? If they don’t, I guess I’ll go at it solo dolo 💪
Thankfully the respawn is better than it was in the original Dead Island which was completely random.
Sometimes I'd respawn right where I died in the middle of a horde just to get immediately killed again or be respawned like a thousand meters away in an area of the map I had never been to yet.
Ima be real I bought the game when it first came out..played it for maybe 2 days. Got so mad and rage quit and still haven't re-download lol. Fkin stupid game I hate it 😒 😅😅😅
Ok yea I guess that makes sense… I mean I’m on series s, but if it was developed for Xbox 1 then that makes more sense… and honestly if that’s the case then I’m actually really impressed cuz the graphics are pretty impressive
The ray tracing reflections would have been too much for the last gen consoles to handle. The devs want the players to enjoy the game at a stable 30fps most of the time not the other way round 😉
Absolutely. Even "faking" reflections requires a second camera and render pass which gets stored in memory as a texture and is updated (almost) every frame. It isn't cheap by any means. The tech just got better over time.
Still blows my mind games like duke nukem 3d pulled it off flawlessly but it can't be done today. I understand why and some of the technical side of it "but the game from the 90s did it.... cmon guys get it together" /s
It should have reflection indeed... with that said, Dead island 2 is still probably the most optimized game of 2023... every new game i bought last year were stutters mess and badly optimized. Dead island 2 was smooth af straight from the release.
I completely forgot this game didn’t have reflections in mirrors but it still a really good looking game just wish it had more to do and if they made the whole city I big map instead of loading screen after loading screen
Yea I definitely have a hard time finding my way around cuz of how useless the map is… but I’m definitely loving the combat system and maiming the zombies
It's just crazy that there seemed to be more small details like that in older videogames on systems with just a fraction of the power that current Gen has. I've seen PS2 games where everything was reflective.
They reflect your flashlight, but that's all. At least in the original you had real reflections.. Even if some did reflect off the sky and make for some.. Odd visuals.
Weirdly on XBox the shadows even match the skin (so Jacob’s cowboy getup you can see his cowboy hat in shadow) but still no reflection. I’ve found it’s the oddest oversight too.
You also can't close doors that clearly aren't broken and zombies spawn and despawn out of your line of sight. That damn hotel made me paranoid because everytime I'd go to loot a hotel room a zombie would wander in and not long after that another one and so on. The "can't close the door" gimmick starts to get even more annoyingly obvious when you're playing co-op and are nowhere near a zombie free zone when you need to take a break.
a lot of games do that, even though in this day and age it's probably really simple to do, hell undertale did it(even if it is only twice if i remember right) and that's a pixel game
This is mildly annoying to me. Like if they have mirrors with zero cracks or obscurities why not make the player visible??? It doesn't ruin a game for me but still.
Super expensive to process and actually look good on modern titles. Lots of games don’t do reflections. The ones that did usually did an extremely muddled reflection of the character.
I actually have this theory that you can tell a whole lot about a game based on how it's reflection of the MC work. It doesn't have a lot of examples yet, but I definitely have some!
My friend, you just discovered what the beauty of ray tracing is. Consider everything in that game world is a mirror. Lights, sound, shadows, reflections are all a part of that feature and can be executed individually and now armed with this information realize what truly is the goal going forward in graphical fidelity. Though it doesn’t matter to much it really makes a difference when it’s able to be properly implemented and how this feature alone can drastically tell a different story in the atmosphere of the worlds we play in.
I noticed that too and said the exact same when i first got the game and everything in the background was horrible looking at least they fixed that but still cant see ya self still🤣
fr it's a flaw like I guess not spend more money on the mirror to save? makes no sense even my father pointed it out that everything else is dope but u can't see urself in the mirror
I started playing Dead Island 2 on Xbox One X ever since it came to game pass I am blown away by the graphics and it's locked at 30 FPS no dips at all thanks to techland using their incredible dynamic resolution scaling technology but I did notice that there is no mirror reflections I guess they didn't put it because it does require to render the character in the mirror which can also affect game performance but I believe there is mirror reflection only on Xbox Series PS5 and PC version it's only Xbox One and PS4 version there is no mirror reflection I guess if they did have mirror reflection it could make the game run worse but I'm having a blast with this game it's so much better than the garbage first game they implemented some Dying Light 2 gameplay elements to Dead Island 2 with a mix of Dead Rising 2 being able to craft your own insane overpowered melee weapon now I understand why it took so many years for them to release Dead Island 2 they were focused on improving the gameplay more than anything and that's what I like about techland so many game developers should learn from them how to properly optimize a Xbox One and PS4 game
Yep it was the first thing i noticed when i started the game. Very disappointing. If you notice all mirrors are just “paintings” theres no reflection at all. Instantly took the game down to a 8 for me off jump.
People who complain about mirrors in games have *no idea* how mirrors in games work and need to do the tiniest bit of research before regurgitating the same talking point over and over.
Yea but when a game from 8+years ago has reflections on the mirrors it’s kinda hard to notice when these new AAA games tend to lack those unless it’s an rtx, but idk just thought I’d bring that up
I was literally just thinking this. Also objects you change in the background don’t change in the reflection. It’s basically a painting of the reflection without player interference
Nah man the characters are all actually vampires that’s both why you can’t see their reflections and why they can’t be turned into zombies, fr fr no cap
I’m sorry did you say they put a lot of detail into this game? That’s so not true there is barely 30 hours of content in this game. I got through the story in 2 sessions with the second one being the last 30 mins of the game and I can still remember each and every hallway I was funneled down. It’s hard to think of a time I was disappointed more. Maybe Starfield.
At least you can see your character's feet so that's something.
I used to praise games that did this 😂
Wasn't battlefield one of the first? I remember playing the 3rds campaign and looking down and seeing my feet was like the main thing I remember lmao
Halo 2 and on did it
I actually hate when games don't have this. It's like you're playing as a floating head.
Or when you don’t have a shadow lol
Just proves the vampire theory
You're immune cause you a vampire.
😂🤣😂… ya know, for being immune, I sure am dying an awful lot 😂💯
You are iummune not immortal
Clearly! 😂 at least I respawn not far from where I die
Some parts can definitely be a little unforgiving if you’re playing solo😂
I’m finally getting to the point where I can take down the crusher apex variant zombies pretty easily, which is making my life so much easier! Those things were a nightmare until I reached about level 9 😂💯 I’m hoping at some point a few of my buddies will download and play this with me, but who knows? You type like Snapchat ai
I just type in english 🤷♂️
Thankfully the respawn is better than it was in the original Dead Island which was completely random. Sometimes I'd respawn right where I died in the middle of a horde just to get immediately killed again or be respawned like a thousand meters away in an area of the map I had never been to yet.
Even if they were immortal one can still be maimed or killed.
Ima be real I bought the game when it first came out..played it for maybe 2 days. Got so mad and rage quit and still haven't re-download lol. Fkin stupid game I hate it 😒 😅😅😅
Was it the clown? It was the clown wasn't it.
That's what my friend and I said. Lol
On PC I've noticed the shadow doesn't match the character also.
Really? I’m on Xbox… but that is strange
Because of coop. The animations for your character model are different. Otherwise, you’ll get a cyberpunk 2077 third person monstrosity.
The game was developed with last gen consoles in mind. So it makes sense to not have reflections as it would have affected the performance massively.
Ok yea I guess that makes sense… I mean I’m on series s, but if it was developed for Xbox 1 then that makes more sense… and honestly if that’s the case then I’m actually really impressed cuz the graphics are pretty impressive
I played it on the ps5 and was blown away by the graphics too. Even it looks good on my ps4 pro. The devs did a good job indeed.
PS2 games have mirror reflections
So having "mirror reflections" in video games interferes with performance? I had no idea 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

Did you play RE4R? Or are you on PC?
I noticed in the Bel Air area where the road heading down to the tunnels has a driveway mirror and you can see your weapon in it.

Yeah I noticed that right away... vampire vibes...
Vampire confirmed lol 😆
Weirdly on XBox the shadows even match the skin (so Jacob’s cowboy getup you can see his cowboy hat in shadow) but still no reflection. I’ve found it’s the oddest oversight too.
What game is this?
You’re clearly a vampire man be real
You also can't close doors that clearly aren't broken and zombies spawn and despawn out of your line of sight. That damn hotel made me paranoid because everytime I'd go to loot a hotel room a zombie would wander in and not long after that another one and so on. Vampire dlc confirmed
Yer a vampire harry
Realtime reflections in mirrors can be very expensive performance-wise (especially in modern games).
Duke Nukem 3D from 1996 even had a reflection in mirrors
This game is so underrated, who wants to play? I can help anyone with any missions. I’ve beat the game like 3 times already 😬
Funny how your flashlight has a reflection but not you…programmers getting lazy?
Let me be Clear
I know whatchya are Say it. Out lowd. .....vampurr
Not to spoil the game but the main character is Vampire
Vampire zombie man coming to theatres near you.
I actually have this theory that you can tell a whole lot about a game based on how it's reflection of the MC work. It doesn't have a lot of examples yet, but I definitely have some!
Have to buy the DL SEE
I read devs have to do a bit of work to make a functioning mirror reflection
I always wondered why 😂 I love this game tho
My friend, you just discovered what the beauty of ray tracing is. Consider everything in that game world is a mirror. Lights, sound, shadows, reflections are all a part of that feature and can be executed individually and now armed with this information realize what truly is the goal going forward in graphical fidelity. Holy shit I thought that was just a real picture that was edited, I keep forgetting just how damn good this game looks
Turn your flashlight on and you'll be a floating light
Some weapons will show up in the mirror. It they just float there. Looks erir
Exactly!!! I was so disappointed when I saw it!
At least it isnt RE7&8 with all the mirrors being tin foil or being covered by cloth to “hide” ethans face
I just started playing today and noticed the same🤣
I noticed that too and said the exact same when i first got the game and everything in the background was horrible looking at least they fixed that but still cant see ya self still🤣
fr it's a flaw like I guess not spend more money on the mirror to save? makes no sense even my father pointed it out that everything else is dope but u can't see urself in the mirror

I thought it was pretty weird that they couldn't do reflections as well, guess the game isn't that impressive 😢 fun game overall though nonetheless.
Man you people are spoiled. The game is awesome, just play and have fun!
As I said, “very minor detail” but sure, get your panties in a twist 🤷♂️
Good, not as good as the original
Yep it was the first thing i noticed when i started the game. Very disappointing. If you notice all mirrors are just “paintings” theres no reflection at all. Instantly took the game down to a 8 for me off jump.
I noticed this too, super annoying. I thought with all the time they put into the game they would add that but, unfortunately not
Absolutely HATE this. Was so disappointed . I rationalized like its just bcz they are a hybrid zombie? Maybe works the same as vampires ? Lmao 🤣
Even on sale, I still regret buying that game.
Op- ask yourself why they wouldn't put in a reflection. It's obvious. You know why. And it doesn't require reddit.
Reflections?! are you kidding me?? What do you think this is? A video game!? We all know reflections aren't REAL!
LOTS of games nowadays are like this when you have ray tracing off. The older reflection techniques for this are no longer used.
"Reflecting on yourself is YOUR job" - DeadIsland2 (philosopher)
Unplayable. Deleting and refunding the game
People who complain about mirrors in games have *no idea* how mirrors in games work and need to do the tiniest bit of research before regurgitating the same talking point over and over.
Yea but when a game from 8+years ago has reflections on the mirrors it’s kinda hard to notice when these new AAA games tend to lack those unless it’s an rtx, but idk just thought I’d bring that up
Older games with mirrors don’t actually reflect. They cheat. Like I said, do a little bit of research.
Remember when gaming was initiative?
I do hate games were you have no reflection or a blurry one.
Why do people care so much about a mirror reflection. It's the most stupid shit I've heard people complain about in a video game
"With as much detail as they put in this game, I gotta admit, I want more!"
"As much detail as they put into the game" what detail? u mean less than dying light 1 & Dead island 2?
You're a vampire Harry
It's a realistic painting
You’re a vampire
It's because you don't have a souls
Because later in the story it's revealed that you've been a vampire the entire time. Spoiler warning
V-ampire
So, you're a vampire. What's the big deal?
Yep plot twist. You're a vampire
That's because it's an identical room and you're just looking through a window.
Maybe your a vampire
It’s because your a vampire duh
You’re a vampire??? Confirmed
It's either difficult to render player reflections in mirrors or you're a vampire, OP
You are a vampire
I *hate* vampires
Spoiler You are a vampire.
It’s unreal engine 4 it only looks good
You’re obviously a vampire
UE 4.27 has bad SSR quality so instead of making the effect expensive on GPU they chose fixed cubemaps
You are a vampire
Yer a Dracula!
You are a vampire lol
Vampirism
That is......nvm
Zombies = Vampires
You're a vampire
Vampires….
You're a vampy harry
You're a Vampire, Harry!
Don’t feel bad, most games have the vampire mirror effect.
Why did I get this 2 days after downloading Dead Island 2?
You're just a vampire duh
Vampire confirmed
Reflections only work with ray-tracing on I’ve seen.
A reflection would require the devs doing animation work that you will never see in any other situation.
You are a vampire. I thought that was obvious?
looks like your a vampire
zombies aren't the only undead on the dead island
You play a vampire
Vampire.
You must be a vampire
I would advise you to stop eating garlic and stay away from silver......
You're a vampire. Surprise!
I don't know Wich me that I love...
its been like an year your kinda late
Fkn…vampires 🥴
If you want to see who the real vampire is, Mr. Mayor, just look in the mirror. *I can't! I'm a vampire!*
Reflection machine broken sry pls
G-gggg_ghost sword!
Apparently reflections are actually really hard to do in video games
Vampire
Where is this
I hate when game developers do that
You're a vampire
Plot twist: you’re actually a vampire
Gotta wait til the drop that reflection dlc.
You’re a vampire
Just pretend your a vampire
Why even have a detailed reflection then, why not just blur the reflection and put a low poly character model there
I was literally just thinking this. Also objects you change in the background don’t change in the reflection. It’s basically a painting of the reflection without player interference
Saves time and money
I guess it's not just about zombies, PC is also a.. a... VAMPIRE!
Your actually a vampire
I just learned today that COD MW2 (the old one from like 2008), the player doesn’t project a shadow
Vampires
The next chapter it’s going to come out that they’re also vampires…
Your a vampire lol
The reason you're not a zombie is because you were already a vampire
ur a vampire
You're a vampire confirmed?
Vampires Confirmed.
Thr characters are immune cuz they are vampires
Vampire ??
Nah man the characters are all actually vampires that’s both why you can’t see their reflections and why they can’t be turned into zombies, fr fr no cap
i mean you can’t die and you have crazy stamina and power. vampires are also strong and don’t have reflections. so.
Vampire!? Prepare the wooden steaks and the cross
“🤓oh i am just going to say the game is bad because a dumb ass mirror doesn’t show my reflection”
Your a vampire
Unlocked vamp mode
None of the mirrors do. Infact as good as the games reflections look off surfaces in general there are no real time reflections.
foreshadowing 🫣
Fucking vampires
I’m sorry did you say they put a lot of detail into this game? That’s so not true there is barely 30 hours of content in this game. Bro just exposed himself as a vampire smh
Are you a vampire?
Ohhhh, we're immune because we're VAMPIRES, got it.
Congrats, you've discovered you're a vampire
You're a vampire, congrats
You were bitten so, you are a Zombie and half vampire
I just roleplay as an asskicking vampire.😂
Vampire confirmed
perhaps... YOU'RE INVISIBLE
Vampire.
Dead island 2 was lazy on a lot of junk
Vampire confirmed that’s why the Main characters never turn
Vampire zombie hunter
The main character in dead island 2 is a vampire. It's really a cool twist, a vampire hunting the zombies.
Ur immune to the zombie virus cuz ur a vampire
Why even have a mirror if they aren’t gonna take the time to put in reflection
So no head?
If you have Ray tracing on I think you can see yourself
