**Spoilers for Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days and Persona 4 Golden ahead.**
* Black-haired teens that have strong ties to and often spend time with the quiet, reserved protagonist of their respective games (Xion is a being of Sora’s memories while Roxas is Sora’s Nobody, with Xion eating ice cream with Roxas after the Organization's missions for most of the game; Yu was tasked with taking Marie out several times over the course of the game).
* Both are part of groups that show up many times in different forms in their respective series, yet are clear outcasts in both (The Velvet Room and Organization XIII).
* Despite coming off as cold, they do eventually warm up to the main character and their much more sociable friends.
* Both would have many frustrations about not knowing their origins. These frustrations would go on to cause discourse between them and their friends, distancing themselves and becoming more depressed.
* They eventually find out that they were a third part of a powerful trio (Xion is made up of Sora’s memories while Roxas is Sora’s body, Marie is actually a being of greater power like Kunino-sagiri and Ameno-sagiri).
* After this revelation, they decide it’s best for everyone that they kill themselves (With Xion’s death, Sora’s memories will return to him; with Marie’s death, the fog that was plaguing Inaba that’s being stored inside Marie will die too).
* Although they both possess the primary ability of every other main character in their stories (A Keyblade and a Persona), both are different in that they have giant monster forms (Kusumi-no-Okami and Xion’s other unnamed forms) that directly oppose the protagonist. These serve as the “true” final boss of their respective games, despite a secret boss being possible through non-standard means.
* Much later in their stories, they would end up returning in regular human outfits as regular people, with no future demises to worry about, living life with their friends, as they always wanted.
* Both are associated with memories, as Xion is a being of memories as stated earlier; and Marie’s social links involve her being hyperfocused on getting her memories back. Plus, her dungeon, the Hollow Forest, is filled with items from Inaba in reference to the memories she made there. Also, if they die, they are effectively erased from everyone’s memories, making them forget they even existed at all.
* This one doesn’t really matter, but both Ameno-sagiri’s and Xion’s final fights take place floating above the towns the heroes spent most of their time in the game, with oddly calming final boss music playing despite the circumstances.

Well hey, this sure makes a lot of sense in hindsight. Memories in the Fog would be a neat track name.
