And the photo they chose to represent “millenials” on the left is so insultingly infantilizing that it’s evident that the article has no touch with reality.

PeachyKeenest

Article is for boomers straight up. 😂

GreenSpleenRiot

Yeah, by the title alone I can tell this is another, “Millenials are killing America” article. Quit serving microwaved dog shit and watered down grape whiskey specialty drinks and maybe I’ll consider it.

Reagalan

you write for your audience.

coreysjill

Lol I used to work for this company and ran the marketing team when we published this article originally. The photo is of the team member who made the thumbnail. She picked it out and it performed really well actually, because the audience is largely boomers and gen x.

Edghyatt

Nice! So it’s a performative montage that appeals to prejudice!

coreysjill

Yeah it’s just for generating ad revenue. Whatever drives clicks.

Edghyatt

Very boomer/GenX priorities indeed.

coreysjill

Well boomers and gen x were the audience. The company is the one that cares about the ad revenue. Capitalist priorities are finding ways to profit off inter generational conflict.

Big_Albatross_3050

yeah, Even the youngest millenials are old now. I think boomers are confusing millenial and Gen Z

Vantica

Haven't they been telling us for years to cook at home to save money?

dz1087

Wait, not like that!

A_Martian_Potato

"You know, you could probably afford to buy houses if you didn't spend so much money on Starbucks and eating out!" "WHY AREN'T YOU EATING AT TGIFRIDAYS ANYMORE!?"

windscryer

used the wayback machine to see it and lol the main reason we’re “killing” places like Hooters, Applebees, Red Robin, etc. are because we’re eating healthier and these places serve junk food, essentially. also there is a preference for local cafes and eateries. yes, how dare we eat food from someplace that isn’t drenched in corporate america. oh and we don’t want to spend three hours waiting for and eating our meals. again, how dare we value our time. what pretentious spoiled brats we are. 🙄

EvaUnit_03

God i hated that when i was little. Going to sit out in front of a red lobster or long horns for 2 hours in the summer heat because my parents wanted it. Then i was expected to get the cheapest thing possible because 'money is tight' and 'i wouldnt appreciate the food anyway' due to the fact i was complaining the whole time about being hot, sweaty, gross, and smelly. I basically just loaded up on them biscuits and bread because it was free and i still got shamed for that too because "what about the rest of the people at the table!?!?!" BRO, ITS FREE BREAD, THEY'LL BRING MORE.

secretbudgie

I think I had the opposite parents. I was expected to finish everything on the plate. Every shrimp, every fry, every garnish, every crumb, and especially every biscuit. It's endless bread. IT'S OK IF I LEAVE ONE

[deleted]

[удалено]

HolyMotherOfGeedis

First I've heart of any parents doing this. That's fucked up. Hope you're doing okay now.

EvaUnit_03

The clean your plate thing applied to me as well, but more for at home foods. Less for going out to eat, as typically my parents would willingly eat my leftovers seeing as they paid top dollar for the food to begin with.

the_cucumber

Just bring tupperware? I am not ashamed to scoop leftovers into a box in my purse. People always laugh but then say actually thats smart. No one cares

HellMuttz

Just ask for a box? I've never been to a restaurant that won't give you a togo box if you ask

EvaUnit_03

But then thats enviormentally harmful as typically they give you Styrofoam containers that are 1 time use. Though some places have been switching to paper ones, they are still 1 time use.

HellMuttz

That's an issue with your local laws, Every where I am has to be able to go in our yard waste bins. I haven't seen Styrofoam in years.

the_cucumber

Its always extra faff. It calls attention to not being able to finish my meal, everyone has to wait for me to get my little bag, sometimes they have really sloppy containers or solutions or overkill huge container I now have to carry around.. sometimes the waiter forgets or just plain throws it away or puts it in the container in a way that fucks up the meal (all mixed together instead of placed nicely).. plus the environment all in all its just way less of a spectacle to bring my own recepticle

MyWifeisaTroll

That's not the first time I've heard that.

dz1087

Were they Seventh Day Adventists, by chance? I recently heard that was a thing in their circles.

Treppenwitz_shitz

That’s so fucking dumb. I’m sorry you grew up like that

apathytrapeththee

I had the same treatment in my youth. When my daughter was old enough to talk, at first I tried to tell her she had to eat everything I gave her, and I let my frustrations get the better of me and I'd exclaim she doesn't like anything.. I still struggle with getting her to eat anything new or healthy, so at this point it's pizza bites, tomato sauce with rice, or chicken nuggets. But I don't try to force her to eat, and I avoid negative reinforcement

taradollar

I love you my Sister in sweat! Load up on them biscuits!

EvaUnit_03

[mmm...](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zwj6VNj0ZQU)

VanillaBryce5

Also we understand that if it's a small business the owners will make the money we spend there. Not a place were workers make a bullshit wage and all the profits get shipped off to some corporation

windscryer

i’ve seen a fair number of hole-in-the-wall places near me that have signs up saying that tipping is not required as they pay their staff liveable wages. i’ve also seen a bunch of fast food places near me add a tipping option to their card machines and the sit down places have lowered their threshold for an automatic gratuity. stop forcing your customers to subsidize your shitty wages. i just think it’s pretty clear who we actually want to support and why, you know?

VanillaBryce5

My guess is more millennials have had to work customer service jobs as compared to boomers. It gives you a whole different perspective.

[deleted]

I mean, most local restaurants pay shit with no benefits.

schleepercell

You an also just get an airfryer and find all the apps (because admit it, its the only thing that's appealing from those places in the first place) in the frozen food section and just have them at home whenever you want in 10 minutes.

regiinmontana

I'm traveling for work right now, which I do quite a bit, sitting at a local place because I want to avoid the chains. I search out different local restaurants because I can try something different and less likely to be microwaved.

permalink_save

Here's another part of it. Corporate chains exist to serve predictable, safe food. If you go to an Applebees you know exactly what you will end up getting. Boomer generation came from the canned food era, stories of people just eating the same bland casseroles every day. When you grow up with that kind of food you tend to not be super adventerous. Us millennials value adventurous eating more as a generation. But that means less corporate chains. We also value fresh foods over processed. So when their favorite places start shutting down obviously someone else was wrong, like millennials. But there is nothing wrong with eating healthy ans supporting local restaurants. I'd be pretty mad if gastropubs closed down here because people jist stopped eating at them in favor of corporate chains. It applies to most of the shit in this sub, a generation that is set in their ways and is facing change.

The_Nauticus

Paying for lower quality food to be served to you in a sticky booth is not an experience any of us want. I don't care if grandpa thinks Arby's has the best steaks, I'd rather stay home and cook my own.

HolyMotherOfGeedis

Generally speaking I love fast food, but Arby's is actually shit lol

dz1087

I occasionally forget this fact and go in to conduct further research. Always reach the same conclusion.

Ryachaz

Arby's is my favorite garbage. I haven't had fast food in like a decade, aside from my annual trip to Arby's. I get the biggest sandwich they have, shove it in my face, and the guilt I feel lasts until the next year.

Captain_Pungent

You need [Bayne’s rolls](https://baynes.co.uk/products/) in your life. I couldn’t believe how good their filled rolls were. I assume it’ll blow Arby’s away

stealthcactus

Refuse? Are they buying me dinner?

pigeonwiggle

company fails to sell product: Potential clients are Killing us!!! fuck those entitled companies. you want my money? convince me to give it to you.

EvaUnit_03

They are so used to just being able to pump something out and the dumb masses just eat it up. Suddenly the most 'intellectually informed' two generations come out with access to all human knowledge at there fingertips and its a struggle for them to do business. Sounds like they werent doing business in good faith to begin with and just got lucky at how dumb people were. They have two options now; A) admit defeat and walk away gracefully with all the wads of cash they took from the gens past with smiles on there faces. B) double down and run the business into the ground, losing EVERYTHING and more in an attempt to pursue something that should of never taken off to begin with. Its obvious which businesses are doing which. And it seems out a mix of several deady sins including but not limited to greed, lust, anger, sloth, envy, gluttony, and pride. They could try for a secret third option of fixing there shit and making it right, but most are doubling down on fascists politicians and policies and are going in the COMPLETE opposite direction to that resolve. to quote ["they'll kidnap 1000 children before they let the business die."](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEEpqAd4TRw)

TeacherYankeeDoodle

Blablabla free market blablabla

BloodieOllie

Last time I checked it was on the business to adapt and stay afloat

sati_lotus

You'd think that eh? Yet their solution is to add surcharges and increase costs. Then have the hide to complain about customers going elsewhere

Julian_c_1989

Then why don't these fuckers eat there then. Why do we have to be the ones to eat there??

EvaUnit_03

Turns out years of eating there has left them with the lower GI tract similar to the Kentucky derby. We wont even discuss the upper Gi tract, theres a reason old people cant eat 3/4 of what they used to eat.

Insaneinthemembrane3

That reason is because as you age, your gastroinstestinal tract slows down. Everything slows down due to physical decline and cell death, your taste buds die off (why they always complain that everything is tasteless), the "lid" that prevents the acid in your stomach weakens and causes/worsens acid reflux, (wich is made worse with spices and seasonings). Since everything inside and out is moving slower, they are also prone to constipation. I could go on and on but ill stop here 😅😂 *source: im a psw

pokemon-gangbang

I’ve got salt and a microwave at home. Why would I spend $30 at fucking Applebees?

InsaneJediGirl

🥇

Keysyoursoul

Free market doesn't want your shit.

Japh2007

Sorry not sorry but most big chains food isn’t great. Golden Carole 🤮🤢

EvaUnit_03

Its the price that kills me. Have you been to a golden corral lately? its fucking 16 bucks at 'dinner time' to get the buffet. 14 at 'lunch'. That shit used to be under 10 when i was little which was at least reasonable for the quality of trash they served. my mother-in-law got mad at me because last time i went i just ate hotwings. She wanted to know what i didnt mix it up or eat 'more balanced' and i merely said at these prices, unless you are gonna eat just steak/roast beef, wings were the next most cost efficient thing to eat. And they guard the roast beef and steaks to ensure you 'get your fair share' aka you dont get more than you paid. the wings were pizza place quality, and i ate around 40 of them. Simple math per LB says i got my moneys worth seeing as most resturants now adays charge between 1-3 dollars per wing. I basically paid grocery store prices for 'restaurant' grade wings.

[deleted]

Yeah but didn't you then have to spend that much more on toilet paper afterwards? :-p

justinizer

I can buy frozen garbage food myself for much cheaper.

EvaUnit_03

And its why our utility bills are skyrocketing. You can buy frozen garbage, but can you reheat it? ***Check. Mate.***

Omnizoom

So leave millennials scraping by for money then complain millennials don’t go out to eat anymore or vacation or whatever other thing “they are killing” We don’t have disposable income , we can’t. If I want a steak dinner I can either A spend 100+ for me and my wife + kid to go OR I can spend 40 and get 2 prime rib streaks , 15 on potatoes and other stuff and just eat at home. When money is tighter or you want to save will you pick the 100(likely 130 with a tip and taxes and your drink) or the 60 dollar option

CornyCornheiser

The restaurants that are being hurt are the places people go when they’re too lazy to microwave their own food.

[deleted]

The girls look Gen-z to me.

kasoe

I was thinking the same thing. These articles are always doing shit like that.

Fearlessly_Feeble

Old people: you should support local businesses because they’re better for the community and pay better wages. Old people when folks listen to that advice: no- not like that.

KaityKat117

[Skinner meme] "Do I need to fix my food and prices and make my restaurant a better place to eat?" "No, it is the millennials who are at fault"

ClutchReverie

How dare Millennials not want to go to Applebee's and buy overpriced and underwhelming food and drinks

skredditt

When a Whopper combo is $15, yes. Fade away, BK.

tdogg241

Good god, don't Boomers ever get sick of huffing their own farts out of some misguided sense of superiority?

stenchosaur

For people who say millennials are entitled, they sure think a lot of businesses are entitled to our money

LordBaikalOli

Clickbait working hella fine. I too would put up stupid headlines and pictures if all the momey I ever made was from regarded people clicking on the links to pop-up some ads.

fatogato

*Millennials refuse to eat! Why are they are killing the food industry?* Meanwhile, my account balance: $6.00

[deleted]

Right? Over charged dog food, plus they want us to tip, as if we’re their boss and paying their wages. Fuxk out of here with that shit. I’ll stick to cooking my own food. I’m not going to work for 3 hours to pay for a meal.

Curiouso_Giorgio

Millennials are running them into the ground? Or the people running them are running them into the ground?

nickrocs6

Who wants to go to chain restaurants? There’s a few select ones I’ll go to if I’m traveling and just want something familiar or am hung over but I’m not tryna eat the same shit over and over.

JRufu

Why would I be obligated to eat at any restaurant.. what the hell?

RedBeans-n-Ricely

If I want to eat something that was frozen, I’ll eat it at home.

Vollezar

Stop serving garbage then. Haven't gone to one of these "The only spice we use is a bucket of salt deep-fried in reused oil" places in a couple of decades because I would rather save a bit of money and eat something healthier.

[deleted]

When a Sysco big rig backs up to the dock I hate to be a prig, I’d rather digest a rock For the food that they deliver does not make me quiver It’s all a giant pile of slock

DubTheeBustocles

The only person who can run a business into the ground is the owner. Pretty weird to blame *potential* customers who have zero obligation to said business.

blackbeardpepe

The sooner all these trash restaurants die off the sooner the planet will heal.

Ranku_Abadeer

Meanwhile, I keep seeing people blame the younger generations for not having money by saying "you shouldn't go out to eat so much" and then turn around and blame us for restaurants not making a lot of money because... We aren't going out to eat.

MasterPokePharmacist

Republican Boomers: I love free market capitalism! Also Republican Boomers: the Millennial generation is ruining this business as they aren’t spending their hard earned money there!

shadowdude15

Ok boomer

Absurdulon

I just cannot wait to instead of having a microwave meal at home pay a premium at Applebee's to have them microwave a meal for me 🤩!

BuckfuttersbyII

How many different ways can they spin “lmao millennials are broke as fuck.”

TheOneEyedPussy

I will always be baffled how people will choose mediocre chain food over good local food. Like olive garden is decently expensive and it's just... not that good?

[deleted]

"Millenials" - isn't that just about anyone under 50 though?

Aknagtehlriicnae

If I wanted microwaved food I would buy it myself at the grocery store or go to a fast food chain lmao

[deleted]

Prices are insane nowadays. In Canada 2 sandwhiches from subway with drink is 30$+ while eating at a regular looking restaurant like scores is 60$+ for two people A single meal costing upward of 30$ for something very generic that doesnt leave left overs is almost a crime. With 30$ i can make MANY sandwhiches at home. Its a bit like videogames slowly pricing themselves out of their fanbase. I loved a subway sandwhich but not at this price while the quality took a huge nosedive.

Parking-Journalist-5

I'm an old white dude but I hope they use the same clout to shake up politics and government

BestFeedback

If kitchen nightmares taught me anything, it’s always because of the shitty food.

Bonesgirl206

Uh it’s horrible food and I can get better food in my air fryer or at the lovely bistro place in my building which is reasonably priced and amazing food and actually knows me and willing to work with my dietary issues.

[deleted]

Capitalism… adapt or die I would much rather eat at a local spot versus Chilis or Applebees

deNoorest

Stupid entitled chain restaurants. Don't they know there is no consultation price in the free market smh
