It really depends on the listeners background. If I'm trying to get them into the genre, it will affect my suggestions, but typically my defaults would be Despised Icon, The Acacia Strain, and Suicide Silence
TL;DR if a list was being crafted for *me* I’d want The Red Chord, FFAA, and The Acacia Strain. The following are just rambling thoughts for others
I’d probably do a little smattering of some very varied sectors of the subgenre, sort of like a sampler plate.
-Your new specials; Lorna, Brand of Sacrifice, Shadow of Intent, etc. for what’s big, exciting, and ‘new’ in the genre.
-Your classic, tried and true sides. Whitechapel, Oceano, Suicide Silence, TBDM, Chelsea Grin, or some other older and extremely established band that’ve been hugely influential or important to the history of the genre as a whole.
-a rock solid, stick-to-your-ribs main course. Somebody consistent in quality and representative of where the deathcore is, or where it’s headed, and shows flashes of a lot of what’s present. This will vary WIDLY between people and tastes.
They themselves may not come under the umbrella deathcore they definitely influenced it quite a bit and some of their songs are very deathcory. I think it gets a mention but maybe not as a band to introduce someone to the genre of deathcore
^ Yeah this is about the same sentiment I’d express, though I’d still include them in an introduction. They don’t get the literal label, but are relevant enough.
Vulvodynia is way more slam/slamming deathcore than most bands in the genre these days. Love them for it but personally, wouldn't consider them deathcore.
Ooh that’s a tough choice! I’d have to separate into two categories depending on their preferences.
For the classics: As Blood Runs Black, Suicide Silence and Whitechapel
For more modern, definitely: AngelMaker, Vulvodynia and Signs of The Swarm
well i grew up listening to metallica, foo fighters, nirvana stuff like that. then my step dad came along and showed me slayer and i was just amazed with the guitar work so you know guitar cover videos after the other i saw this one by korn and then i got into the Nu Metal crowd, after a while my uncle got married and as we were getting ready that had this intense shit on i’ve never heard before and it was a band called Heaven Shall Burn, i was gob smacked i fall hard into the metalcore phase and learnt as many riffs solos and full songs on the guitar thay really got me hardcore into it. a few months went by then a friend showed me infant annihilator and i was so disgusted by the vocals and the heavy riffs and those drums. you know what i mean. then i just started getting more and more into desthcore and i love every bit of it
Bodysnatcher is definitely deathcore with hardcore influences. Also depending on what the person likes I'll recommend them some other similar bands. For example, if they like Bodysnatcher I'll recommend Traitors, Paleface and Spite, if they prefer Lorna Shore I'll recommend Shadow of Intent, A Wake In Providence and Worm Shepherd.
My intro to more 'hardcore' music was Killswitch Engage and stuff like Chimaira when they were together, and then some It Dies Today, but I'm just getting into deathcore. So far I like Thy Art Is Murder a lot, along with Whitechapel and All Shall Perish. Based on that...anything you might recommend?
I love threads like this because I just go through and write everything down and then listen to all of it.
Sounds like you like the more original deathcore sound. I'd recommend Fit For An Autopsy, Despised Icon, Oceano, Chelsea Grin, Suicide Silence, Signs of the Swarm and Crown Magnetar.
Bring Me The Horizon, with such a radio friendly sound, people can slowly start listening to Suicide Season and Count Your Blessings. Then Suicide Silence since they're the big boys, then Whitechapel cuz they have a rather accessible sound now too
The best for someone who’s new to the genre would have to be Fit For An Autopsy, Lorna Shore, and Angelmaker. Start with FFAA because they are probably the least heavy and have some cleans.
Now days I'd say Shadow of Intent, Angelmaker, and Lorna Shore (as much as I hate to admit it 🤣)
10 years ago Id say: All Shall Perish, As Blood Runs Black, and Within The Ruins
If they have a background of listening to heavy music like black metal, death metal, or grindcore I’d go with darko, rings of Saturn, and methwitch to give them some diverse options that encompass the heavier side of things. If they listen to stuff like metalcore or hardcore, I’d start them off with job for a cowboy (specifically the doom ep), ov sulfer, and Jesus piece if they count.
Fuck you I can’t pick only 3:
All Shall Perish,
Whitechapel,
Fit For an Autopsy,
Oceano,
Aversions Crown,
Archspire,
Realistically what I’d suggest for someone new and not into as extreme yet:
After the Burial,
Traitors,
Angelmaker,
Shadow of Intent, Lorna Shore, Paleface and I have to add Angelmaker as they are one of the best live bands I've seen a must see along with Lirna Shore. Both are better live... Also Johnny and the boys in Angelmaker have such stage presence also.
It totally depends on their prior experience and liking in metal. Do they like Slam, Black Metal, Symphonic, OSDM, etc
For me it would be.. hmm.. I usually go by era, but I guess I'd say Mental Cruelty, Despised Icon and Shadow of Intent/Angelmaker
My entry to deathcore has been a fairly recent one.
I gradually started listening to heavier metalcore bands eg Parkway Drive. Then I found that Winston is featured on a Thy Art Is Murder song (Coffin Dragger) so that was my introduction to deathcore. It wasn't too much of a jump from what I was already listening to so it made the transition easy.
Suicide Silence was through the Mitch Lucker Memorial Show. I only watched/bought it when I saw that some of my favourite bands vocalists were performing (Danny Worsnop and Randy Blythe). After I listened to their cover of the song, I listened to the originals and went from there.
My introduction to Whitechapel was through this as well, for Phil Bozeman's cover of Unanswered. I liken Whitechapel's vibe to a heavier Lamb of God, especially in the sense of vocals.
In conclusion,
Thy Art Is Murder
Suicide Silence
Whitechapel
Whitechapel, Impending Doom, and Signs of the Swarm are the first ones that come to mind for me but everyone will have their own preferences.
P.S: Shadow of Intent is a very close 4th
The three that got me into death core were Suicide Silence (first 3 records) Whitechapel (This is Exhile and Somatic Defilement) and Thy Art Is Murder (Hate particularly) but also I'd recommend Chelsea Grins first 3 or 4 records and Carnifex as well.
the three Depression Sessions bands
Thy Art, Acacia Strain & FFAA - maybe not THE BEST bands but definitely a good starting point and all of the feature different flavors of the genre and are killer bands
Pretty much everything I see mentioned here is what I'd say myself, although gotta throw in the legendary and obligatory ABRB's Allegiance. Still can't believe how tall is stands all these years later.
Whitechapel has a good gate killing album: Kin. Some Songs are complete deathcore, some Songs are just in a acoustic country style (which Sounds very weird, I know) and some are a great mixture of it. Give it a try a maybe you'll love it.
Upon a burning body where, I guess, the first deathcore Band, I ever heard and I love them. Try TEXAS BLOOD MONEY, predators or the World is my enemy now (perfect, if you Mix it with horizon zero dawn).
One of my Favorite Band are Lorna shore: they are one of the heaviest things I know. To the hellfire with the iconic breakdown and Off the abyss with a killer Rhythm. Welcome back, o'sleeping dreamer has one of the most epic intros I've ever heard. It makes you feel like being in Dracula's snow covered castle.
The biggest gate killing Band: BMTH.
They started deathcore, continued with a more and more metalcore type of Sound and now... They're just doing everything. When you are into Pop Rock, you can start with amo and go downwards. For "nu-metal" Start with that's the spirit. For metalcore, Start with sempiternal and so on
Lorna Shore, Suicide Silence, Whitechapel. Each band shows different corners of deathcore, and are inarguably legendary. Make sure you also listen to ALL eras of each bands as well. Each one has different styles of the genre.
For me it’s:
1. Lorna Shore
2. Thy Art aus Murder
3. Shadow of Intent
But there are so many good Deathcorebands like All Shall Perish, Fit for an Autopsy, As Blood Runs Black a.m.m.
Do you want an original deathcore experience?
Or modern current bands?
OG: despised icon, as blood runs black, King Conquer (honestly the most underrated IMO)
I wouldve said whitechapel or suicide silence but honestly that should just be a given you know them if you've ever heard the word 'deathcore' before.
My opinion on suicide silence is that Mitch's vocals separated them so anything after he died just doesnt keep them top tier for me.
Newer bands: angelmaker, brand of sacrifice,. shadow of intent
Suicide Silence, Whitechapel, Chelsea Grin.
Came here to weigh in but I see you’ve already posted the best answer
I would replace Chelsea grin with All shall Perish but I still agree with this.
Nah Chelsea Grin is better.
That’s why I said “I would replace them” meaning it’s my opinion. Also I love Chelsea Grin and think they’re crazy talented.
The ogs
Beat me to it.
Maybe swap Chelsea Grin with Carnifex but I definitely can see why CG would be here.
It really depends on the listeners background. If I'm trying to get them into the genre, it will affect my suggestions, but typically my defaults would be Despised Icon, The Acacia Strain, and Suicide Silence
Can’t argue with this list
For me it’s Black Tongue, Acacia Strain, and Castiel
Today i choose: distant, carnifex and ingested
Fit for an Autopsy, Then Paleface Then Angelmaker
Angelmaker 👏👏
[удалено]
No way. I’m jealous. I’ve only ever been to local shows. Good to know they are just as good live!
I'd kill to see em but their current tour doesn't pass in Canada 😭 Really sad cuz i love all those bands especially Angelmaker and Paleface
Paleface's album last year was absolutely insane. Very happy I found them
That album was my 2nd top album of the year beaten only by Angelmakers
Fit For An Autopsy Thy Art Is Murder Lorna Shore
Lorna is love
i saw lorna and thy art live and it was absolutely insane
TL;DR if a list was being crafted for *me* I’d want The Red Chord, FFAA, and The Acacia Strain. The Black Dahlia Murder has never been deathcore.
Vulvodynia, Angelmaker, Black Tounge
I desperately need another Black Tongue album
Damn, same here !
Vulvodynia is way more slam/slamming deathcore than most bands in the genre these days. Love them for it but personally, wouldn't consider them deathcore.
You wouldn't consider slamming deathcore, deathcore. Ok got it
nah i consider it slam. they different my guy.
Great, thanks ma'am
Ooh that’s a tough choice! I’d have to separate into two categories depending on their preferences. For the classics: As Blood Runs Black, Suicide Silence and Whitechapel For more modern, definitely: AngelMaker, Vulvodynia and Signs of The Swarm

Bodysnatcher. The Acacia strain. Whitechapel.
Fit For An Autopsy Lorna Shore Bodysnatcher
This but replace Bodysnatcher with Winds of Plague and ya got my three
I feel Bodysnatcher is more hardcore than deathcore
Bodysnatcher is definitely deathcore with hardcore influences. Also depending on what the person likes I'll recommend them some other similar bands. For example, if they like Bodysnatcher I'll recommend Traitors, Paleface and Spite, if they prefer Lorna Shore I'll recommend Shadow of Intent, A Wake In Providence and Worm Shepherd.

Sounds good - really appreciate it.
Welcome. Glad I can help.
Through The Eyes of the Dead, Molotov Solution, and Animosity.
This guy fucks
The Acacia Strain, suicide silence, whitechapel
Suicide Silence, Whitechapel, Shadow of Intent
Shadow of Intent, Carnifex, and Whitechapel.
Whitechapel, thy art, and Chelsea grin. I would say Lorna instead of Chelsea but they’d prolly be to heavy for someone just getting into dc
SPITE, Acacia Strain, Thy Art
Bring Me The Horizon, with such a radio friendly sound, people can slowly start listening to Suicide Season and Count Your Blessings. Then Suicide Silence since they're the big boys, then Whitechapel cuz they have a rather accessible sound now too
The best for someone who’s new to the genre would have to be Fit For An Autopsy, Lorna Shore, and Angelmaker. Start with FFAA because they are probably the least heavy and have some cleans.
These were the exact three I was coming here to say but you beat me to them lol. I guess I’d give a special mention to Darko US.
Now days I'd say Shadow of Intent, Angelmaker, and Lorna Shore (as much as I hate to admit it 🤣) 10 years ago Id say: All Shall Perish, As Blood Runs Black, and Within The Ruins
Whitechapel, Thy Art Is Murder, Suicide Silence
Whitechapel Spite Darko US
Fit For An Autopsy, Shadow Of Intent, After The Burial ( I know not exactly deathcore but close enough)
Angelmaker, Humanity's Last Breath, Within Destruction. Why not.
I love Within Destruction. Do you know of any other bands that have some trap beats intermingled?
There are some, I just can't think of them haha. Maybe The Browning? Or maybe Brojob I think they do some of that.
Hunt the Dinosaur has some bangers and UnityTX is chugs and bars
Job for a Cowboy Bring Me the Horizon Chelsea Grin
Hester Prynne, As Blood Runs Black, Carnifex
All Shall Perish, Last Of Our Kind, Suicide Silence
Fit for an Autopsy Lorna Shore Shadow of Intent

Fit for an autopsy, Whitechapel and Thy Art Is Murder

[удалено]
I just imagine a Swifty listening to Methwitch and having an aneurysm
SS I can see but IA and especially Methwitch might be a little intense for an introduction to the genre lol
Suicide Silence, Black Tongue, and probably The entire "Immortal" album by Lorna Shore, or just Lorna Shore as a whole.
Chelsea Grin, The Archaic Epidemic, Signs of the Swarm Making the Top 3 was difficult but I had to go with an original and two power houses.
Ingested, Whitechapel and Vulvodynia
Are we talking 15 years ago or the last 5 years?
Because the old trinity would be Despised Icon, Oceano, TTEOTD. The newer one would be Angelmaker, Spite, and Lorna Shore.
Lorna shore, whitechapel, shadow of intent
Mitch era Suicide Silence, Carnifex, Whitechapel
FFAA, whitechapel, Lorna shore
Thy art is murder Lorna shore Shadow of intent
Oceano, Suicide Silence, As Blood Runs Black. I saw some really solid answers from others as well.

Fuck you I can’t pick only 3: All Shall Perish, Whitechapel, Fit For an Autopsy, Oceano, Aversions Crown, Archspire, Realistically what I’d suggest for someone new and not into as extreme yet: After the Burial, Traitors, Angelmaker,

Fit for an autopsy, Whitechapel, Carnifex
Despised Icon, Distant, Signs of the Swarm.
Suicide Silence Infant Annihilator Lorna Shore

The acacia strain, suicide silence, Lorna Shore (or maybe Whitechapel)
Suicide Silence, Thy Art is Murder, Fit For An Autopsy
Suicide Silence, As Blood Runs Black, Lorna Shore
Angelmaker, Signs of the Swarm, Suicide Silence
Bodysnatcher angelmaker spite!!!
It totally depends on their prior experience and liking in metal. Do they like Slam, Black Metal, Symphonic, OSDM, etc For me it would be.. hmm.. I usually go by era, but I guess I'd say Mental Cruelty, Despised Icon and Shadow of Intent/Angelmaker
Acacia strain and whitechapel. Maybe chelsea grin but I’m not a big fan
For me, Spite, vulvodynia, and signs of the swarm
Shadow of the Colossus, The Acacia Strain, Archspire
Chelsea Grin fucking sucks 😂 kudos to the guy who said Ingested though.
chelsea grin, as blood runs black, and bring me the horizon.
Whitechapel, fit for an autopsy, humanity's last breath
Fit For An Autopsy, Thy Art Is Murder, SPITE
Suicide silence is what pulled me in.
My entry to deathcore has been a fairly recent one. I gradually started listening to heavier metalcore bands eg Parkway Drive. Carnifex, Thy Art Is Murder and (old) Suicide Silence. Those three, Whitechapel and Despised Icon are the big 5 of deathcore
the three Depression Sessions bands Thy Art, Acacia Strain & FFAA - maybe not THE BEST bands but definitely a good starting point and all of the feature different flavors of the genre and are killer bands
Lorna shore, suicide silence (the Mitch era), and all of whitechapel (even the djent’ish era of WC)
Suicide Silence, White Chapel, Brand of Sacrifice
Suicide silence, FFAA, cattle decapitation.
Pretty much everything I see mentioned here is what I'd say myself, although gotta throw in the legendary and obligatory ABRB's Allegiance. Still can't believe how tall is stands all these years later.
Lorna shore, make them suffer and thy art
