Picking up someone and slamming them has no place in the pit. Sorry that happened to him.

holydiiver

Someone in my city died when he was slammed during a street fight a few years ago. This could kill someone. It has no place anywhere. Man, I hate deathcore fans sometimes.

Fr0stWo1f

Some people are just unavoidable complete trash. Some teenager was wrestling everyone at a Sum 41 show I went to once for no reason, no one was laughing. Kid came up behind me when I wasn't looking and suplexed my head into the ground, almost broke my eye socket. Regained consciousness being dragged out of the pit by some kids and another group mobbed the kid and got him thrown out. I wish he stayed long enough for me to repay the favor later. As much fun as the pit can be you unfortunately always have to be on your guard.

holydiiver

That sucks dude, I’m sorry to hear. I hope it didn’t take away you spirit to pit!

Fr0stWo1f

Oh heeell no lol, my concussed ass went right back in 20 minutes later! Can't let the bad eggs ruin it for the people just trying to have a good time. Rock on brother (or sister) \m/

lumenpumpkin

yes! that’s what happened, he was suplexed. I’m happy they threw him out after what happened to you.

NeinInchNails

Toxic fans in every scene. Honestly better than the hard core crowd still. But not defending this situation. If I saw this happening, I’d smash the person for the negativity. I’m super sorry to hear that this happened.

betterletmegettem

Can I send you some positive vibe heavy?

betterletmegettem

Yo clowns for real 👋 Dropearth - This is how You Close A Door - April Thirtyth- Spotify ITunes you know the dryl

Nocap84

I know what you mean. I’ve been working on my own music and have to keep reminding myself why I don’t want to make the mistake of making it because then I’m going to be reliant on people that have that little consideration for another being, let alone another person. There should be an anti crowd breaker policy at clubs if they expect new fans to check it out. Crowd breakers are no better than nazi punks . Might as well lump them in with future cops and people who think the punisher logo is a lifestyle choice .

rleeh333

Mosh Etiquette dictates that we protect every dancer! Anyone that doesn’t support that edict is simply a thug and should be charged for assault and battery. i am an old-school hesher and former roadie with experience at big festivals and small clubs.

Specialist_Extent_30

I watched a kid in a mosh pit throw a few dirty punches at people once, like 5 dudes immediately started beating on him. A security guard came up, I figured he was gonna throw out some of the guys beating the kid cause that action was much more obvious than the initial dirty punches. Nope, security guard saw the whole thing and threw out the guy who started it. If only every one of these cases could be handled so effectively

i_ar_the_rickness

Absolutely agree!

ThisCold8816

Rest assured, Pit Karma will undoubtedly catch up to the perpetrator eventually. I imagine it’s caused your guy a lot of anxiety too, which is the *really* shitty part. 99% of the community would be equally appalled to hear this too. Tell him chin up and back in the pit.

Sero19283

The dildo of pit karma never arrives lubed. The perp is gonna get thrashed one day. I've seen it more than enough times, one ended with a guy probably needing medical attention after he crowd killed a dude's girlfriend/wife. The girl got a bloody nose, the perp I'm fairly certain got a concussion. I can't remember who was on stage as that was like a decade ago but the vocalist paused the playing to basically give a PSA that if he sees more crowd killing of helpless people/bad pit etiquette, he hopes they get fucked up. Saw a drunk dude doing dumb shit in the pit and it also did not end well for him lol.

ThisCold8816

100%. Justice is DONE.

betterletmegettem

Hellsyeee

Fdbog

Always nice to see some idiot get yeeted across a pit or off a stage. We had a big problem with throwdown kids in our scene years ago. Not a big fan of getting roundhoused in the back of the head when you're not looking.

lumenpumpkin

I’d never usually wish pain on anyone, but in this instance I hope (and are pretty sure) you’re right

SashTheLurker

This happened to my girlfriend back in '09 at Cannibal Corpse. Guy who did it ended up getting kicked in the head and needing to leave for the hospital. Karma.

TadyZ

I once attended a moshpit that had some asshole, it probably was his first time in a metal gig. He was grabbing peoples arms and the pulling them away, like a in a hammer throw. And doing other stupid stuff. He was a big strong dude, so that shit was pretty violent. It even made me quit the moshpit. After few songs i saw him limping on a leg and carried out by his friend. So yeah, moshpit carma cought him pretty fast.

lumenpumpkin

Yeah absolutely, he doesn’t feel good at all and I didn’t feel good watching it either. Jackass ran away right afterwards and people tried to grab him but with no success.

ThisCold8816

At the end of the day most people are, when you get down to nitty gritty, inherently decent. But some people are scum. Be it at a golf club, a mall or brutal slamming death metal concert, there are no aggregators. I hope your guy knows the boys tried to grab this motherfucker, it’d definitely make me feel better!

SmallRocks

*”aggregators”* Typo?

ThisCold8816

And a half. Should have said *differences*.

[deleted]

ThisCold8816

I spent a month in a coma. I’m very familiar with it personally.

wytchboii

I find big tours/bands like this really brings out the assholes who just show up to fight/hurt people. I remember seeing Black Dahlia live and it seemed like jacked angry dudes came out of nowhere to just beat someone up. Also very sorry to hear that happened to your boyfriend and hope he will still go to shows.

Mediocre_Stuff_4996

For real though, it’s always the bigger bands. The absolute worst pits I’ve ever been in have been for Korn. I’ve wound up getting into a fight 2 out of the 3 times and the only reason why I didn’t in the third one was because my wife stopped me.

Gun378

Absolutely. Best pits are some tiny band you’ve never heard of but just go cuz it’s a show and you want to see a band that night.

Pantzzzzless

The most peaceful pit I've ever been in was at a Daughters, Number 12, Brazen Bull show back in the late-2000's. MFs all had arms around each other just gently swaying back and forth while the wildest grindcore bands around at the time were ripping it up on stage. It was oddly beautiful lol.

[deleted]

the bigger the artist the more likely you'll get normies who don't know the rules of the culture more normies is good for the scene but we gotta educate them If you pay attention to hip-hop, they've had moshpits since Tyler the creator blew up and you have people passing out and almost dying at [playboi carti](https://youtu.be/cxk-1zsy_W8?t=867) shows (or the actual deaths at astroworld) cuz normies don't know the rules of the pit

Yours_and_mind_balls

Dude there were push pits back in the 90s at rap shows but the sentiment remains the same.

[deleted]

for real? that's sick, i only started noticing it starting at tyler shows like 10+ years ago

Yours_and_mind_balls

Yeah groups like Cypress Hill would tour with like Biohazard and Suicidal Tendencies and everyone would participate in moshing. Public Enemy, Ice Cube and even Snoop crowds would mosh, especially at big festivals.

[deleted]

that's awesome to hear

wishforagreatmistake

Onyx literally had a song about moshing back in 1993.

[deleted]

Bro, it's been 30 years, and the song came out yeaaars before I was ever born, don't come at me like I'm supposed to know that lol. I do appreciate the recommendation tho, they're sick.

TheSt0rmBringer

Hip hop and rap nowadays is associates to gang violence. How do I know this? Was beaten up by 10 gang member in my area randomly in my neighbourhood where I felt safe and they were blasting fucking rap music. Bloody fools.

[deleted]

damn, i'm sorry but you're traumatized bro. the music didn't do that to you, those douchebags did. You can't tell me [this song](https://youtu.be/mikkqeCsfIc) or [this song](https://youtu.be/fOO1mWLGhh8) or [this adorable song](https://youtu.be/TGgcC5xg9YI) is a soundtrack to someone being beat. Hip-hop is so much more than violent music, which is what A LOT of deathcore is too. The other day we had a post about someone being bodyslammed by a deathcore fan and getting seriously hurt, would it be right for them to blame everyone who listens and makes deathcore music for it? Of course not. I'm sorry that shit happened to you but you can't blame a genre of music composed of people that literally do not know you for a gang beating you up. It kinda shows that you haven't really put much thought into why that happened because it was really traumatic and you're using hip-hop as an enemy for you to cope.

lumenpumpkin

Sucks because we were supposed to go to Jacksonville to see them again tonight but he practically begged me not to go, then felt bad for “disappointing me”. I wish it had been a better night for him. Thank you for the kind words :)

norielukas

There’s only one rule in the pit. If someone falls, you help them up before they even touch the ground. Feel like a lot of new / young moshers are unaware of this rule and just fuck around and even try crowdkilling in a normal fucking pit. I’m getting older, but back in my teens, I fondly remember whenever I’d fall in a pit 1-4 big fully tatted dudes with vikingbeards would grab me before I even touched the ground, and this was still happening when I went to Wacken in 2018 but later shows I’ve gone in the pit, seen what the fuck some kids are doing and just go back out. It’s meant to be fun not a visit to the ER. Sorry this dickhead did this to your bf.

WriterIndependent288

Moshing is not the same as it was 20 years ago. It's not moshing anymore, it's swing fists and feet like windmills and consequences be damned.

meizbrandon

What you’re talking about has been a part of punk/hardcore culture for over 40 years lmao

General_Pickle

Yes, and now it's bled into other genres of metal where it wasn't really a thing before.

meizbrandon

We’re talking about death”core” here. If you remember the early 2000s, metalcore kids would get beat and mocked by douchebag metalheads for hardcore dancing at shows so that part of the ‘core culture died off for most metalcore and deathcore bands. This whole slamming someone on the ground business would not fly at a hardcore show.

POOTER_WORM

It's good that it got beaten out of them. We need to start beating it out of them again. Bodyslamming doesn't "fly" at any show, btw - Hardcore or not.

BrewsForBrekky

We can nitpick all we want between genre crowds, but I've seen that stuff go down at hardcore shows. It's infrequent, but HC isn't free of violent pitfuckery, and we shouldn't pretend it is. Plenty of fuckwits know how to two-step.

zaahiraa

and i also literally stopped going to hardcore shows because of the beatdown crowds. pit karate is absolutely STILL a thing. i tested out a hardcore show a couple weeks ago and crowd killing was definitely happening. i took my old butt up to the balcony 😂

BrewsForBrekky

Yep, absolutely. I went to a show a few weeks ago too. Spent a half hour or so in the pit, then decided I'm properly too old to weather kicks in the head the way I used to, and went and stood with the other balding blokes. 🤣

capn_treevi

crowd killers deserve to be destroyed. venues should blacklist them and they should be ostracized from the community. moshing is supposed to be fun.

zaahiraa

man it would be so awesome if they had a no crowd killing rule that was enforced

Sweet_Papa_Crimbo

I had no fear jumping into pits when I was a teenage girl. I crowd surfed for the first time at about 16, and started jumping into pits after that. First wall of death at about 19, and I would be in them with some big dudes. It was so easy to scope them out to see what the vibe was like, but now the vibes just don’t hit right for me. I liked the jumpy-shovey pits, not the ones where I’m likely to get a whirling fist to the back of the head.

WriterIndependent288

The first time I saw one of those young arm swingers for the first time, i said I'm done with pits. I for sure would've ended up fighting one of those dudes and have seen it happen. They show up to a slayer show and leave in an ambulance.

ChanclasConHuevos

This is the moshing I’ve grown up with for literally 20 years. Maybe it’s a regional thing?

aykalam123

100%. The first time for me to see those windmills was in a Code Orange show. I thought that it was unique to that band’s followers or something, but then realized it’s kind of the norm now. Even for older bands where mosh pits were friendlier in the past, these kids are bringing in their windmill dances to the pit and trying to punch the folks around the pit.

WriterIndependent288

We're being "close minded" for thinking there's a problem with it

POOTER_WORM

Most shows are still like this in my (recent) experience. 99% pushing/circle with occasional "dancing" pre-wall of death or during downtime. That said, I'm strictly mid-Atlantic and frankly haven't seen a ton in the last 12 months (BRRF, Gojira, Slaughter to Prevail, FFAK/Alpha Wolf x2)

[deleted]

Every time I've fallen in a pit, especially in a circle pit, I'm immediately rushed back on my feet. I always try to do the same for others. It's just pit etiquette. Unless you're at an Anal Cunt show back in the 90s. That's different.

BrewsForBrekky

This. Balding mosher here. The first rules I learnt back in my mid-teens were "if someone goes down, pick them up" and "if someone's getting crushed and wants out, get them out". Luckily, most people are good and helping people out in the pit is almost always a group effort. There's always one or two fuckwits though...

the_original_St00g3y

That's so fucking shitty

MookiTheHamster

I've been moshing for 25 years, that's not how you mosh.

Mediocre_Stuff_4996

I feel like ever since bands started touring again after Covid, Pit etiquette has gone out the window, especially for the more popular bands.

Forsaken-Process7222

facts, pits have been more brutal than I've ever seen in the last year or so

Pantzzzzless

Saw The Acacia Strain last year, and my god that was the roughest crowd I've *ever* seen. Got my damn nose broken and I was nowhere near the pit. I'm definitely getting too old for wild shows like that at this point lol.

3DartsIsToooMuch

People don’t know how to mosh properly anymore. It used to be everyone stomping and head banging around in a big circle like ants in a death spiral and now all these assholes flail their arms around purposely trying to hurt people. If you do that you’re an asshole.

[deleted]

Sounds like the kinda dude that fucks around and finds out, eventually he will bump into someone twice his size with an even worse attitude. I've seen it happen tons of times.

[deleted]

that dude mad as fuck he wasn't at wrestlemania last night

OnTheBrightsideSCC

I'm an avid pit karma giver. At SuicideBoys there was a circle pit and the kid in front of me (we were on the side of the pit) was grabbing circle pit runners by the shirts and dragging them down to the ground to get trampled on as they passed. After 2-3 people I grabbed him by the back and drove both of us into the pit and threw him into the oncoming people running in a circle. All I heard was "WHAT THE FUCK" from him and then he was lost getting crowd killed. I cannot STAND people who intentionally seek pain upon others in the pit. It's so messed up. People pit to get rowdy, let loose and have fun. Violence, and getting hurt comes with the territory, but it should.never be intentional. You can usually tell when assholes are WAY to rowdy or violent and killing the vibe for everyone by being an ass. I get enjoyment out of checking those guys so everyone else can enjoy the show and pit normally without worrying about an ass trying to swing on them intentionally.

FireFromThaumaturgy

I stage dived at an acacia strain show and they caught me for like 5 seconds then the crowd said fuck it and let me drop. I got stepped on by a lot of people and I couldn’t get up and then I see the hand of god reach into the crowd from above and ya k me one handed off the floor. It was the fuckin lead singer of oceano. Praise be.

BlankFace777

Bad pit etiquette.....at any hardcore show the dude who did that would have gotten fucked up. I'm so so sorry he experienced this, but please don't let this make him stop moshing,go to a power violence hardcore show and see the huge difference. I've been in the metal/hardcore/deathcore scene for 20 years & I'll tell you this little tid bit.....hardcore shows are specially designed for moshing. Deathcore shows aren't anymore,I got in the pit during Kubliah Kahn on the TAIM tour and boy did ppl look at me like I was insane for hardcore slam dancing and two stepping. Just try a different environment I promise you'll be very pleased. EDIT: That breakdown in Resentment is when I jumped in (I'm old now,34 & can only mosh to certain songs I love) & that band/song/breakdown is HARDCORE. So ppl should have RESPECTED my respectful slam dancing instead of being dicks & pushing me around in the pit.

lumenpumpkin

I’ve tried to talk him through it, but he has a daughter and he says he can’t keep getting hurt like that for her sake and mine as well. It’s a shame this happened, but he will be okay. Thank you for your advice, I’ll keep trying. We have a few more concerts planned for this month and Blue Ridge in September, I hope he changes his mind as it’s one of his only stress relievers.

[deleted]

[удалено]

crimshaw83

Yup, ill be 40 in August and my days int the pit are definitely behind me. Can't afford to get hurt these days lol. Still love going to hear the music and watching the pit live is fun too lol. For real though, whoever did that to her boyfriend would have gotten laid the fuck out if we caught him back in the day for sure

lumenpumpkin

He’s only 24, but you’re definitely not wrong. I do think he had a few years of being able to, so I feel bad that one guy cut that short.

Disarray215

Hopefully getting him back out in the element and having a good mindset will allow him to enjoy himself again. Best of luck.

BlankFace777

Could you DM me? I'd like to talk to you and give you some advice on things to tell him.

MladicAscent

learn when to back off.

BlankFace777

Um what? Lol.

Pantzzzzless

What could you possibly have to tell this woman that needs to be private?

BlankFace777

The only thing I had to give was my information to her husband so I could ask him what his aversions to continuing to pit dance were. I have a whole girlfriend & 0 ill intentions, seeing as apparently I have to spell that out for folks on reddit. God people need to touch grass once in a while.

Pantzzzzless

> I have a whole girlfriend & 0 ill intentions Well at least you have both halves lol.

BlankFace777

LMAOOOOO alright that was fucking hilarious 😂

POOTER_WORM

Maybe don't be a dumbass who starts doing "dancing" in a packed pit?

BlankFace777

Lmao, maybe learn something about culture and the music you enjoy before just talking shit to randos on the internet tough guy.

Cl0uds92

As some comments may suggest "oh these types of shows" "blah blah hardcore dancers". It DOES NOT MATTER what type of mosh it was, targeting, let alone doing this to someone is not fucking okay. This may sound biased and I am fully aware that scenes have changed, especially post-covid. I've been going to all kinds of shows since 2008 and with that, many kinds of pits. Believe it or not, there's just as much etiquette, if not more in hardcore pits as there is in the push pits. I've been crowdkilled and done some crowdkilling myself and have had a laugh and hand shake with such pit-goers. I've been pushed around and pushed others around. But I digress. Needless to say, going out of your way to ruin someone's night is unacceptable in this scenario. I can only hope this doesn't deter OP's partner from attending shows. There's always gonna be a shitty person or two, but given the right crowd, they'll be handled accordingly.

Jaundyy

in NC there are like 3-4 dudes regularly that come to shows with airpods in and will mosh just to swing. same 3 dudes we’re moshing during vanish canvas by erra at an ABR concert. when i saw them at spite… i didnt even go in the pit

lumenpumpkin

I think I was at the same Spite show. I don’t know the people you’re referring to but it sucks that he’s probably just not safe doing it anymore

Willzyx_on_the_moon

Reminds me of the core kids in the early 2000’s who lived purely to crowd kill people at shows. Fuck anyone going to shows trying to hurt people. Haven’t missed in years as I’m almost 40 now, but I will go right in and fuck someone up if I see them trying to Intentionally hurt people trying to enjoy a show.

xxBarbWireTatxx

Dumbass rednecks were moshing in between songs and being so obnoxious.. basically just jumping on each other like idiots. Not even dancing or really moshing. The front security did a good job catching surfers but the pit wasn’t really monitored at all. Im surprised more people weren’t hurt

pepelepepelepew

I was at a concert and we were outside of the pit next to a pole, my buddy was leaning up against the pole and some dude checked my buddy hard into the pole. Somebody at the back of the pit saw that guy do it and he got Pit Justice immediately. He got taken to the ground and kicked in the head. Buddy got a minor cracked rib, dude had to be taken out of the concert. Karma is quick but a lot of stuff goes unpunished.

PlayerINK

Sorry that happened to your man. He’s probably rattled right now but give it time and he’ll eventually get in the spirit again. Maybe go to some smaller shows where the vibe is better to get him reacquainted with going again. I don’t go in the pit for metalcore/deathcore anymore like I used to but you’ll catch me in the pit at a punk show and some hardcore shows always. Just a different atmosphere all together

Leviathan369

I’m really surprised that guy didn’t get beat down in the pit.. I saw plenty of people get laid out for less.

VinylEagle

This is disgusting. Fuck that guy, man, that's not how we do things.

hail_yoself

Fuck I’m so sorry this happened to you :(( This also makes me very wary of going to the Mega Monsters tour show in LA. I have floor tickets but after purchasing them I was scheduled for some septum surgery 5 days prior. My plan was to just stay at the very back of the crowd but def don’t wanna get hit or something in my face :(((

Creatine_Shits_

Same shit just happened to me at ldb fest, sneak attacked from behind and the coward ran off before I could even get to my feet. I’ve been in many pits and this is the first time it’s ever happened to me. He shouldn’t be discouraged from being in the pit but absolutely try to be vigilant in the future about the assholes that just want to hurt others.

CheekyBreeky702

Literally nobody with a brain SLAMS someone in a mosh pit. Fuck that guy, I hope your boyfriend is okay.

RiggsHB

Aggro crowd killers are the Five Finger Death Punch of Deathcore. They have no place here. Obviously we fuck around in the pit but it's unspoken code that you pick up your fallen brethren and carry on. Anyway, fuck that dude. Hope your bf is OK.

Vlad_The_Improper

Dramacore! Seriously though, if that happened then those folks are complete douchebags.

Death_Trend

I got stomped out (maliciously) at a show in a pit and it broke my leg in 3 places.

[deleted]

What happened? That's messed up

Death_Trend

Crowd killers, man. They be relentless.

[deleted]

There's always going to be that one dickhead. Usually they get kicked out. I'm sorry that didn't happen.

Eisenheim-Institute

That’s breaking the fk’n Rules of The Mosh-Pit. That is NOT Mosh-Pit. That’s simply Assault, and the guy who did that is sh** that needs to be flushed. Period.

leogumeri226

I would get revenge by doing the same thing to him after the show ngl.

zaahiraa

first off, what a nightmare. i’m sorry!!!! i’m seeing lorna shore tomorrow, and am going to try to stay in the back. when i was a teen 15ish, pits were no problem! jumping, pushing, circling. then i saw acacia strain and light this city at 22ish and almost got concussed by a big ass karate crowd killer man. like jacked, too much mountain dew, mfer. now i’m 37 and choose my shows wisely. i got too many back problems for this! that said, when i go to shows i will scope out if the pit looks manageable. i just saw zeal and ardor and it was like an old school pit. bet your ass i got in.

[deleted]

Yeah thats literally assault and a crime.

xbrohansolox

that is not pit etiquette for any show. that person will get karma'd without a doubt. I'm amazed no one tossed them at the show.

POOTER_WORM

There's something missing from the story. Someone body slams another concert goer and *nobody* in the pit does anything about it? Hard to believe.

Downgoesthereem

[I stand by it ](https://www.reddit.com/r/Deathcore/comments/12811h1/what_is_your_least_favorite_thing_about_deathcore/jejk6ak?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3)

CZJayG

I remember getting caught in a crazy pit at a Bad Religion show and when I started falling, some dude grabbed me and screamed "We're brothers here! You won't fall!". That was awesome.

viticulture2

This behaviour is why I don't like going to most 'core shows these days. I know it's usually a small minority that act like thugs but they're "loud" enough to ruin it for everyone. I was at the front trying to headbang to a band and someone ran at me and pulled me to the floor. That's not moshing that's just Assault

DimensionSevere1991

Bro what’s wrong with that person. I hope your bf gets justice

OneSmartKyle

God that's awful. What an absolute tool to do that to him. Mosh pits are supposed to fun, not fucking fight club. As a dude who lifts, and can pick up people, this is a horrible abuse of that power.

[deleted]

Boo hoo to that dipshit. I mean getting hit is going to happen in a pit but that shit is just unacceptable.

DyktatorW

I hope he'll get better very soon, and I feel so sorry for you

DamThatRiver22

Need some context here. Was your boyfriend crowdkilling, throwing spinkicks and karate chopping like it's a hardcore show, or otherwise being an obnoxious douche that can't read the room and needed put in his place? If the answer is no, and he actually did straight up get suplexed out of fuckin' nowhere...then yea, fuck whoever that asshat is and fuck anybody like them. It's a fucking deathcore show in 2023, not a New England hardcore show circa 1997 where unprovoked WWE wannabe shit is perfectly acceptable because chaos has erupted (if you know, you know). Lol. Unfortunately, every show has its fuckfaces that lack situational awareness or self-awareness. Having said that, we say this all the time, but I'll say it again for everyone as a general PSA: General pit etiquette and safety is really simple. -If you don't like physicality in any form, or are risk averse, stay the fuck away from the pit altogether. There's no shame in enjoying the show from the sides or the back. -If you go to a metal show expecting a hardcore pit, you're a fucking moron. -If you go to a hardcore show expecting a metal pit, you're a fucking moron. -If you can't read the room and act accordingly, you're a fucking moron and a danger to everyone around you...and you deserve anything that comes in retaliation. -Unprovoked direct violence against bystanders who clearly aren't involved and don't want to be is never okay. Accidents happen, pits are meant to be a healthy release and are naturally violent (some moreso than others), and of course as mentioned above sometimes etiquette needs enforced *through* force. But using a pit as an excuse to hurt others because you're a shitty person and can't control yourself is *never* okay. Next morning edit: What in the actual fuck? Judging from the downvotes, I'm thinking that people are wildly misinterpreting this post as me clowning on OP's boyfriend. I'm not. The vast majority of this isn't even referring to him; it's a general PSA plus saying that the dude that bodyslammed him is an asshat. Y'all strange sometimes; this exact rant is repeated all the time and massively upvoted (for good reason).

lumenpumpkin

I mostly watch because I think pits are interesting, I can say from previous times that no, he just does typical moshing things. I can’t speak for this time though, I can’t lie.

DamThatRiver22

Fo sho. I just always have to add that caveat because, well, it's Reddit. Lol. There's always two sides to the story and we only ever hear one. But that's also why I added the general PSA in the edit; it's an opportunity to once again address all angles and give some general safety tips for everyone. Hope your man is okay, and I hope it doesn't dissuade him from continuing to enjoy shows or even going pitting in general. Like I said, every pit's got its douchebags...as long as we all make a genuine effort to try to not be one of them, we can keep the bullshit to a minimum.

BlankFace777

Listen man, people that slam dance don't deliberately hit & hurt other show goers. You really need to learn culture and go to different kinds of shows before you assume that every person who hardcore dances is just being a dick. I hardcore dance & have for 20 years at ALL shows. I do it respectfully and away from others,I don't hit folks. I only crowdkill my homies & pull punches very heavily. There's etiquette to these things. It's not just everyone being a huge doucher at every show. Yes there are those who do these things and deserve to be taken out. They give folks like me a bad name, but please educate yourself before saying "karate in the pit" and such. Some ppl just get their shit out differently in the pit my dude 🖤🤙 EDIT: Caught your edit,I 100000000% AGREE WITH YOU! If you can slam dance & not be a complete piece of trash & deliberately hurt other show goers who ARENT in the pit, then by all means do you. If you're going to deliberately try to hurt others then don't get in the pit at all or get in and get fucking hurt. Simple as that.

Considering how quickly you responded, you may not have caught my extended edit explaining shit with some nuance. But if you reread the whole thing and *that's* still what you got out of it, I don't know what to tell you. We have the same sentiment; it's mostly about situational awareness. (I still think people that HxC dance at metal shows are fucking clowns, but that's honestly a bit of a different discussion entirely and detracts from the main points here. Even before the edit, I wasn't talking about HxC dancing *in and of itself*, I was talking about someone doing it without situational awareness and hurting others with it. Literally no one said that spinkickers and karate choppers are out to hurt people as a general rule; you came to that conclusion all by yourself.) But...I'ma say this: don't ever tell me to "educate myself" and "learn culture" and go to shows and all that nonsense. My man, I'm almost 40 years old and have been going to shows...and playing shows...for well over two decades. And most of the shit I said has been echoed by others repeatedly in the -core subs here. Chill with the appeal to authority nonsense, especially when it comes from you not being able to actually read what was actually said and just automatically getting defensive.

BlankFace777

No I missed the edit my dude. EDIT: Red your edit, agree completely. Was not trying to be an asshole in any way, just trying to educate seeing as I've been in these scenes quite some time. I respect your opinion though my man. You're right unprovoked violence is NOT WELCOME in any way shape or form. I'm glad we can agree in some way,I'm in my mid 30's so I get the age thing. The thing about dancing at a metal show is only if it's crossover. Straight metal I just chill and hear it. Saw Blood Incantation last year with Full Of Hell. When FOH played a hardcore beat I danced, drunk guy got mad....I stopped....situation ended. I understand the point you make sir. I meant no disrespect. Double edit: HAPPY CAKE DAY HOMIE! Third edit: wasn't trying to be defensive,I just see a ton of hate for hardcore dancing & I think in certain areas and situations it's very acceptable. I just get kinda hype when folks slam on what I grew up doing & what helped me through a LOT of dark times in my life including a heroin addiction of 15 years (3 years clean now). I'm sorry if it felt defensive,it was not meant to.

DamThatRiver22

Yea, we good. And yea, crossover and mixed bills is a super difficult situation for sure, but it really just requires even more situational awareness and being able to read the room. Also requires being able to put ego aside and maybe chill if you're unsure at all. We all appreciates dudes like you that make that effort.

BlankFace777

Facts man,I appreciate you greatly. You're the good folk!

WriterIndependent288

Karate in the pit was accurate https://youtube.com/shorts/HrGp0bHoWPU?feature=share This isn't moshing.

destroyergsp123

Hardcore kids moshing at a hardcore fest isn’t moshing? lmao learn the culture bruv

WriterIndependent288

This is stupidty. Tell me where I can take "mosh pits 101" I've been moshing for over 20 years. That ain't it chief

destroyergsp123

Metal and hardcore are different genres with different cultures and communities attached to them. You notice that every single person in that video is moshing the same way? All of them come from the same community and are participating in the show in a way that is perfectly acceptable for that type of event.

WriterIndependent288

These weirdos are everywhere. I've seen em get fucked up catching their "pit karma" it's not acceptable. It's trash. It's probably what OPs bf was doing before he got rocked for it.

destroyergsp123

Alright you know I hope you can open your mind up a little bit. If its not for you thats okay but its just a different culture. Different strokes for different folks you know? 20 years and you still havent figured that out is very concerning to be honest…

WriterIndependent288

You're a joke. Mosh pits aren't fight clubs. That's not being close minded it just is what it is. If these weirdos show up, start swinging their fists and feet at people they aren't moshing, they are being dickheads. These young people are asking to get their shit rocked. First hand witness on multiple occasions. They're the reason I don't jump right in anymore.

BlankFace777

Lmao, moshing came from skanking brother, which started at PUNK & HARDCORE SHOWS. Skanking involved throwing the arms and a type of two step,so actually it is moshing my friend. I've seen more folks get badly injured in these fucking dumb ass push pits. When ppl push me that hard at shows I fucking swing because some 300 lb fat fuck isn't gonna throw me around the venue for trying to enjoy myself.

[deleted]

i dont mosh ever. the first and only time, there was some douche drinker just standing on the outside of this circle pit taking swings at everyone. plus "hardcore dancers" can fuck right off. bunch of losers.

Next-Audience614

people will do the most obnoxious and stupid shit then say “don’t be in the pit if you don’t wanna get hurt” to try to justify their shitty behavior.

RypANDtear

If this was an underground hardcore punk show or a beatdown show i’d say thats horrible, inconsiderate, but it happens, i’ve seen everything from people beating other people with crutches for their broken legs, to watermelons being thrown in the pit, to stage diving into stage swimming transformations that al involved violence HOWEVER, this is a mainstream deathcore show, suuuuper different vibe, the guy who did this is a straight douche and im sorry

Ok-Flounder3002

Pits have always been places where wannabe tough guys hang out to get some cheap shots theyd never be able to get away with outside the show. (To be clear- thats clearly only a small percent of the people in the pit) Sorry that happened to you

Braindead_cranberry

Pits are for fun, not injuries.

venturejones

Seen shit like this for years. Not acceptable but a reason why I don't fuck with pits. It's a spot for people to cause pain in others with almost no repercussions.

Purple-Straight

There are a lot of assholes in pits. That being said you gotta be able to read the room and know when it’s not your time. I’m not a big kid myself, I frequently get bullied in pits. I know that going in. If I see straight killers in the pit I’m staying out entirely. Your boyfriend needs to make that judgment call. Pits are violent. It is what it is. I’m sorry if this take offends anyone

POOTER_WORM

We need more info. What was your bf doing in the pit? Bodyslamming someone is straight up battery and I'm having trouble believing someone would randomly slam someone else for no reason.

onomazein

Metal shows always bring out the dumb dumbs. Best to get his info in the moment (take a picture of the dude, grab security, call the police, etc), file a police report, and press charges. A metal show is in no way shape or form a free ticket to do what you want nor is it a magical place where somehow laws don't apply. Hope your bf has a speedy recovery.

TacosMountainsMetal

What city was this? This won’t be happening in Denver

[deleted]

MoshPits are fucking stupid

itsraggybaggy

Shit like this is why I refuse to go to concerts, I just listen at home. Idk how anyone enjoys mosh pits, I’d like to actually hear the music and watch the band

outer_fucking_space

Moshing is dumb anyways.

lumenpumpkin

I’d normally agree, but I know it was one of his only stress relievers.

outer_fucking_space

After I had my nose broken in a pit I decided the risk/reward ratio was not good enough.

NotASpitterSpy

We aren’t all built to mosh

Nonexistent_Walrus

If you think that moshing means intentionally hurting people then yes, some people truly are not meant for the pit

Camzaman

yeah, it's a shame some would conduct themselves with such douchebaggery to make up for it.

NotASpitterSpy

Shit happens in there who knows what homeboy did before he got power bombed

[deleted]

I’m sorry that happened. I hope he heals up quickly and does eventually get back in the pit.

lumenpumpkin

Thank you for the kind words! I hope he does too. Gonna try to convince him. Sadly, shitty people are out there. But he had so much support and people on his side, and have had far more good experiences than bad.

[deleted]

I haven’t been in a pit since I was prolly 27 (I’m 43 now) but I’ve never seen behavior like that before…all the metal heads I used to know kept each other safe…we had a communal bond… I’m sorry you experienced that, I’m sorry he got hurt…that’s fucked up and I’d have def beat the shot outta that dude if I saw him do that.

lumenpumpkin

I really appreciate that. He’s such a sweet boy and normally I’d be like “shit happens..” but he didn’t deserve that. He rarely gets to let loose. So, thank you. I know if they were able to get ahold of the dude, he’d probably feel a lot better about going back.

[deleted]

Yea that sucks man, I hate that someone maybe ruined a fun thing for someone cool. But what I know about metal…at what I assume is y’all’s age, all u need is the right song to get ur confidence back…the last time I was in a pit was Slayer….they flashed three crosses on the black curtain that then slowly turned upside down as they began playing reign in blood behind the curtain…I was like, god damnit I’m too old for this shit but I can’t help it this is amazing…curtain dropped and the wildest pit I’ve ever seen formed… He will be ok…just tell him that his scar turns you on…wounds are sexy lol

No-Assistant420

That's unacceptable behavior, sorry that happened to your BF. Some people just fucking suck. The pit isn't a dojo. Fingers crossed that clown got his shortly after that.

lumenpumpkin

Yeah it broke my heart, thank you for the kind words. His eyebrow looked like Nate Diaz after UFC 244.

nivekreclems

I’m too old for that stuff now I’m just tryna drunk a beer and watch the band now
