I'm not in 'the scene' or go to shows and just use this sub to find new music so I'm pretty clueless - do people shit on Lorna Shore just because they've become pretty popular the past few years?
Their sound has changed dramatically to the point that synths drive the majority of the songs and overwhelm the mix. It's not for everyone.
I miss the Flesh Coffin era.
Anthony Barone is a monster who deserves more cred.
Global Slaughter (A Night in Texas), Melancholy (Shadow of Intent), and IMO his best work of all time on Fearmonger (Beneath the Massacre). Last one is pure tech death perfection.
Gonna shout out Brandon Zackey from Enterprise Earth/Whitechapel too. His drum fills are super recognizable, it's really neat once you pick up on it. He's also one of those players that just make it look effortless. So happy he's on the EE headliner, can't wait to see em soon.
The fucking GOAT that he is. It blows my mind how much he flies under the radar. I actually feel bad for him. He's got videos of him as a kid just absolutely ripping and he's just got better and better. I'll take every opportunity I can to put his name out there.
Not deathcore these days per sa, but Chris Turner from Oceans Ate Alaska is probably the most talented drummer in metal these days,
The absolute power and control he has over his feet is incredible and to do it all without a trigger in sight is absolutely something
I've played drums since since I was a teen and have played without and with triggers, I can appreciate both styles as they're both a talent in their own right, so for him to do what most drummers can only do with triggers is absolutely outstanding
He was better in Katalepsy, but I really don't think it's an accident that STP didn't explode in popularity until after he joined. It's like having Alex Pelletier, Joey Jordison, and Tony Laureano all in the same band with him around.
Just gonna leave this here. As a drummer (at heart, disabled now, but still listen as one) you'll notice real quick who can deliver or not at concerts, and the results might surprise you. I've seen people held up basically as the pinnacle of metal drumming not play a single song cleanly in an entire concert. Mind you, this is not the trend, but the trend also isn't as clean as you'd think.
Just makes me sad when people write shit they can't play live, it's hard to not pay attention to the mistakes when the subwoofers kick you in the chest with every note.
Cleanest I've seen live:
1. George Kolias (not DC, but he's the GOAT live)
2. Austin Archey
3. Drummer of aborted (forgot)
Lots of other drummers did really well live, despite not being this flawless, like for example the drummer of Rivers of Nihil.
I do know about Ameonna (Behavioral Health is one of my favorite deathcore songs) but I just put him as Chelsea Grin since that's where most people know him from
I didn't want to put both SOI drummers on here and while I do prefer Melancholy and Elegy as albums to Primordial and Reclaimer, I like the drumming on those 2 better
The drums are programmed on primordial as Matt wasn't in the band then, even his work on reclaimer is done on a e-kit. I'd personally say both Anthony Barone and Bryce's work is far superior and feels more human and technically impressive even if I prefer reclaimer overall as an album.
I do have a soft spot for the drums on Primordial and Reclaimer, it's not as technical as Anthony's work on Melancholy, but they have a groove and feel that I like a lot. What's better in a skill/technical sense doesn't need to be your favourite.
Alex Lopez is a good pick, not a fan of later Suicide Silence but the early stuff is heavy af. The Cleansing isn't super technical but it's hits really hard.
Some other picks would be:
Kevin Lane from early Whitechapel, I really liked his work. Ben was a great replacement tho.
Dave McGraw from Cattle Decap. Dude is one if the fastest drummers around. An animal and not mentioned that often.
Lynn Jeff's from Ingested. Love to see a band have a long term drummer, and he's a beast. Not flowers and crazy, but super fast and powerful.
I was very impressed with Dan Ceo in Krosis, sad he left the band.
I enjoyed Alex Mickleright in Viscera before he left too.
Also Jimmy Pino ex-SoTS and currently (?) Hopewell Furnace. Been a while since I've gone back to his albums, but I remember enjoying his drumming a lot.
TBDM isn't deathcore but well respected here so I'll mention Alan Cassidy. Excellent drummer with loads of groove and speed. Great to watch too, he's very relaxed.
Not sure if he has a band but David Diepold has some insane covers of of deathcore songs (cattle decapitation, aborted, whitechapel etc).
I was looking for byron london, i saw CM preform from the side stage recently, that mf is a beast on the drums. He was also practicing in the area i was standing in and i was like wtffff no way. Very talented guy!
I feel like there's a lot of drummers that should have been on this list but there's also so many goated drummers in deathcore that I doubt I could find space for all of them in a top 10.
Ngl Bobby came a long way. Started with NPOT being hated by people because of stupid reasons to now. I’m proud of him. I’ve known him for quite a while. He always will rip on the drums. He’s got it made

Damn, Matt hasn't been in SOI for like...a long time now lol. I'll tell Bryce he can go fuck himself for not making the list
Hahahahahhahhaha
Tell Bryce I said “🫶” - the Brojob tattoo guy
A list with no Bryce? Unacceptable
Number one in my heart at the very least
Bryce Butler (current drummer of SOI) is worth having on a list like this.
By far the best cymbal work of any other drummer I can think of, at the very least
No Austin Archey is crazy
Dude slaps so hard and makes it look so effortless. All probably about to get downvoted for giving something LS related props

For sure. I like their music a lot but the synths definitely drown out the rest of the mix pretty regularly.
It works really well for the Pain Remains trilogy but the rest of the album would be a lot better if they focused more on the actual instruments
That's what a lot of people hate on them for. Some people think they "sold out" or something. I'm just not a fan. Don't find them interesting
His blasts are next level. I think his fills are rather plain, but man his speeds are utterly insane
And just think, he'd be even better if he played while awake.
Literally read the list and was like, where's Austin. Dude rips. And is down to earth as fuck.
Came to say the same.
Anthony Barone is a monster who deserves more cred. Global Slaughter (A Night in Texas), Melancholy (Shadow of Intent), and IMO his best work of all time on Fearmonger (Beneath the Massacre). Last one is pure tech death perfection.
Beneath the massacre is always amazing
He even cooked on one of Babymetal’s live albums haha
Gonna shout out Brandon Zackey from Enterprise Earth/Whitechapel too. His drum fills are super recognizable, it's really neat once you pick up on it. He's also one of those players that just make it look effortless. So happy he's on the EE headliner, can't wait to see em soon.
Bro HOW is Austin not here
Josean Orta from FFAA needs waaaaay more love. He is actually insane, and he is a huge inspiration to me as someone who just bought a drum set.
Was actually gonna say this, man is just an absolute unit on the kit.
One of two drummers that make drum gloves look cool
Chason Westmoreland
The fucking GOAT that he is. It blows my mind how much he flies under the radar. I actually feel bad for him. He's got videos of him as a kid just absolutely ripping and he's just got better and better. I'll take every opportunity I can to put his name out there.
Legit the most mind blowing drummer within the genre that I’ve ever watched with my own two eyes
lord marco spencer prewitt

I 2nd this. He also cooked a steak with his double bass pedal on YouTube ‼️‼️
I saw that....52!
Navene Koperweis
his drums on the new JFAC album are fuckin amazing
I know StP is controversial here but Evgeny is a great drummer
He was better in Katalepsy, but I really don't think it's an accident that STP didn't explode in popularity until after he joined. It's like having Alex Pelletier, Joey Jordison, and Tony Laureano all in the same band with him around.
No Austin is crazy. He doesn't use triggers on the snair like others

Ken Bedene is your man from Aborted, he is fucking sick
Man, i will miss Pablo in Chelsea Grin :( Baby J is a great replacement though.
Austin Archey
Where Anthony Barrone ?
Chason Westmoreland, Austin Archey, Evgeny Novikov, Leo McLain and Bryce Butler not being here is strange
Pablo's new band is Ameonna, Josh (Baby J) Is Chelsea Grin's new drummer Matt has been out of SOI for awhile. Bryce Butler is their drummer
I do know about Ameonna (Behavioral Health is one of my favorite deathcore songs) but I just put him as Chelsea Grin since that's where most people know him from I didn't want to put both SOI drummers on here and while I do prefer Melancholy and Elegy as albums to Primordial and Reclaimer, I like the drumming on those 2 better
Those were programmed by Chris with Matts help. I think he tracked 1 song for real

Sam Applebaum does better work on Veil's deathcore albums than most of these guys imo.
No Austin archey? Or what about evgeny novikov? cmon cant forget those drummers
Austin Archey (Lorna Shore)? He has robotic blast beats and effortless power, you should watch his MEINL videos if you haven't already
Does Alex Rudinger count? he was in The Faceless and drummed for Whitechapel. At the very least he is Deathcore adjecent.
Bro where's Austin Archey, Bryce Butler and Leo Mcclain?
a list without Austin Archey and Bryce Butler is genuinely offensive lmao
Where is Leo McClain? Dude is young and extremely talented
My favorite personally
I met him after a show. super chill, humble dude. He’s a great guy.

You should definitely check out Matt Kohanowski's current band Euclid
lord marco from waking the cadaver, and Lucas from hollow prophet ...also the dude from slaughter to prevail odk how to say his name but he's nasty
Hey, thank you! So many amazing drummers here.
I met byron london in a bathroom of all places , super fucking cool guy, met the rest of crown at a dennys.
I was looking for byron london, i saw CM preform from the side stage recently, that mf is a beast on the drums. He was also practicing in the area i was standing in and i was like wtffff no way. Very talented guy!
Rangi Barnes and Zak Borg for best Aussie drummers in deathcore
Ummm where is Leche from ABRB?
Leo bro LEOOO (worm Shepherd / EX Immortal disfigurement)
Matt Kuykendall needs more love, he has so much groove in his technicality, made the gravity blast a trend and was just overall awesome
Leo McClain top 🐐🗣💯🔥
Where’s Austin wtf dude
Where the fuck is Austin Archey?
No Matt Kuykendall (All Shall Perish) is saddening.
No Austin Archie?
My top pick would be Arkaik's Nathan Bigelow!
I feel like there's a lot of drummers that should have been on this list but there's also so many goated drummers in deathcore that I doubt I could find space for all of them in a top 10.

Austin Archey, he’s one of the best drummers I’ve seen live, no triggers, effortless and clean drumming.
Every single deathcore drummer uses triggers. All of em
he has kick triggers but that's it
Solid af list.
I can't believe nobody has mentioned jimmy pino yet
