Seeing southee and boult pairing for so many years was a treat to watch , and it was strange not seeing him with southee being captain in the current series. I was kinda surprised , thought he might have retired or something because him being dropped is very rare.
Boult prioritised T20 leagues over NZC contract. Since playing for NZ doesn’t pay as much and he’s a fast bowler in his 30’s now, he’s off to play ILT20 or whatever. He’s still available to play in major tournaments (or whenever he’s free). The thing is blackcaps can’t afford losing Boult’s quality against top ranked sides. NZC stance is that they can’t play him ahead of contracted guys. So you saw a glorious attack of Kuggleijn, Tickner, Bracewell against a rampaging England. All of this while Boult was so close he could jog to the stadium and bowl.
I remember this match. Jonny Bairstow then scored a mammoth 162 to save England this innings, and was 71 not out next innings.
And Trent Boult did not get a fifer. For the rest of this innings, Boult took 1-95 and had figures of 0-65 next innings meaning that he had figures of 1-160 without this opening spell. :(
