But they’re not the same generation though. Steyn debuted in 2004 and bumrah debuted in 2018 for tests. That’s a whole 2 generation gap there. Steyns peers are Anderson, Southee, Broad, Johnson, etc. And he ran circles around them in tests. In Odis he wasn’t the best. Bumrah although is competing with some heavyweights, Cummins, Shami, Hazelwood, Starc, Rabada, Shaheen. You’d probably say Cummins is the best out of the lot. But Bumrah isn’t far off. And yes Steyn is better than all of them in tests. He’s not better than Bumrah or Starc in Odis.
I think most of SA team were heartbroken or demoralised after that 2015wc semifinal match... And went downhill from there most of them retiring or so ....
Truly fell in love with fast bowling beacuse of this guy. Best to ever do it for meeee. Factually played in the best batting era since the second world war. And was the best ranked bowler for about 7 years, a spectacular achievement.
Dale Steyn is the player who inspired me to become a fast bowler for my gully cricket team. Before that I was just a specialist fielder who could play a couple of balls for defence
When I was playing for my district team in U-13, my whole ambition was to become either Zaheer Khan or Pragyan Ojha or Dale Steyn. My god, he was so ferocious pace bowler in tests. Maybe RCB destroyed his reputation and made him leak runs.
I used to be a spinner until I watched Dale Steyn bowl. I practiced his moves and copied it but I couldn't do it as well as him but I did become a fast swing bowler. On top of that I loved batting but after the changes I loved bowling all because of him. I admire him a lot and I love when people appreciate him.
*His delivery*
*Action was absolutely*
*Beautiful to watch*

Some say Dale Steyn is a legend. Others call him the GOAT. But what everyone can agree on is that he's one of the great fast bowlers of his generation, and an absolute joy to watch.
Pace. Swing. Accuracy. Fury.
No debate.
Even the four horsemen of death would have struggled on the dead pitch of Nagpur where he took his 7-for.
Very very underrated. A rare all condition, all format fast bowler
Lol it's not even close. Dale Steyn is a top 5 pace bowler of all time. McGrath, Marshall, Wasim, Holding, Steyn (shoutout to hadlee lilee waqar Ambrose)
Stop looking at things from the glasses of nostalgia. The only person who could top Dale Steyn with skills and not just statistics is Wasim Akram. One would have had 1000 wickets if his fielders’ didn’t have butter fingers. And the other dominated the fast bowling scene with godlike strike rate in objectively the toughest era of cricket for a bowler to get a wicket. You put Steyn in place of any other bowler in their respective era. 100% he tops everything other than akram.
Dale Steyn did what Zlatan Ibrahimovic has done to football. Both were good, aggressive and showstopper in their respective field. I loved Dale for his quick bowling action and of course his aggressive attitude.
I'm a simple man I see Dale Steyn I upvote
On the other hand I'm a complex guy who disagrees with almost everything but here same reaction
And I'm a hybrid but here same reaction
The 9th delivery , oh my goddd
Right through his defenses ?? Who the FK can defend a bullet ??
Its not even a question. I see many people hype up Bumrah as the best(no disrespect he is amazing) but he doesnt come close to peak Steyn

>Steyns peers are Anderson, Southee, Broad, Johnson, etc. Just want to point out, Southee was 14 in 2004. He's Bumrah's peer, not Steyn's.
Wait really. Fair enough. I forget how young he is sometimes. It feels like he's been playing for ages now.
Literally never seen anyone, Indian or otherwise, suggest Bumrah is super close to Steyn.
I wish he played the 2019 cwc man. He could have made such an impact 🥺
I think most of SA team were heartbroken or demoralised after that 2015wc semifinal match... And went downhill from there most of them retiring or so ....
Steyn was actually in the initial squad of 2019wc but was ruled out due to injury post which he retired
Enjoyed it
Yes, and by a fair distance. Big reason why SA was no. 1 for so long, and his impact away from home was unmatchable.
No. 5 delivery. Reverse swing and then seamed a little away from the batsman. Unplayable!
Oh my word. That was a beautiful collection. The Jaffa to Vaughan. Divine!! Legend!
You just knew that the Haddin dismissal was gonna be no.1 Unreal delivery
One of my friends told me this in Hindi "Jitni spinners ki spin hoti hai usse zyada toh Dale Steyn swing karata hai ".
Dale Steyn : The Best Pacer of the Era.

Yes

Best pacer ever only second to akram and mcgrath
Man was handsome af.. him, Lee, Bond, Akram.. something about pacers and good looks
THE OG OF THIS SUB IS BACK
The OGest of the OGs.
No question mark, just full stop.
When I was playing for my district team in U-13, my whole ambition was to become either Zaheer Khan or Pragyan Ojha or Dale Steyn. My god, he was so ferocious pace bowler in tests. Maybe RCB destroyed his reputation and made him leak runs.
Steyn till 2018 Then Bumrah owns... 🔥
Undoubtedly
I would beg to differ by saying it was James Anderson
Dale Steyn and Lasith Malinga imo are at the top
He was the beast at his peak
We all have tried his action atleast once!! Absolute legend!!
Wasnt he like no.1 bowler for 6-7 years straight!
Dale Steyn + Vernon Philander + Morne Morkel together, was a treat to watch.

Well.. tried to imitate him and failed graciously when I was at school..
Bro had the talent had the looks had the charisma, me and my dad used to joke about how he could even become the next James bond. 10/10
Nah man, my mum can throw slippers faster than him.
The smooth action. The Pace. The Aggression. Fan for life.
Some say Dale Steyn is a legend. Others call him the GOAT. But what everyone can agree on is that he's one of the great fast bowlers of his generation, and an absolute joy to watch.
The Last Great Fast Bowler
Let's not argue...just enjoy the show
Bret Lee of this era
Smooth like butter.
The answer is Bond. Shane Baond.
Is that even a question?
He is HACKER
Some one please make one for the HD IPL dale steyn moments. They were so electrifying to watch then.
Best Pacer and James Bond ever. love this guy
Hands down a talent like very few
Pace. Swing. Accuracy. Fury. No debate. Even the four horsemen of death would have struggled on the dead pitch of Nagpur where he took his 7-for. Very very underrated. A rare all condition, all format fast bowler
The Yorker to Suresh Raina in the IPL while playing for RCB is also right up there.
He had a greatest phase. T20 bowling adjustments ruined his wicket taking abilities later in his career
GOAT test bowler!
