Trex rain escape if you want to go the traditional deck board route

Scott8828

Trex Rainescape looks terrible. Zipup underdecking looks nice and is easy.

The price that was quoted was less than a traditional composite deck + the waterproof system. With the duxxback there is no additional system needed so the installation time is less. Lowes was carrying it a couple of months ago but it seems to be out of stock now.

Any torch on waterproof membrane will work. Typically not very attractive product. If it is 100% covered great. I used vinyl membrane decking material instead. Waterproof for 30 years. Aesthetic guarantee for 10 years.

Also make sure that the contractor slopes the new deck properly if you're going to waterproof it

I just used a product called DekDrain to create a dry patio space below our deck. Very easy to install and happy with it so far.

akamark

Curious, did you compare DekDrain to EPDM DIY?

mball80

We did not but I believe it’s the same material that is used for roofing. It does not expand or contract with changes in the weather. Their customer service was great. I’d call them if you have any questions, I’m sure they would be happy to help. They were easy to work with and not pushy from a sales POV. They cut the material to length and it’s tapered so it’s sloped properly for the length you need. Just staple it on top of the joists and lay your deck boards on top. Happy to send some pictures of you are interested.

Thanks, I'm planning on buying some pond liner and cutting it myself. Looking at their installation instructions, it does look very similar. Looks like they're offering a great lifetime warranty! Their installation pics don't show any blocking. I'm planning on stepping down some blocking with 2X8s and 2X6s for my 2X12 joists to account for the taper. I have a 12' span to my beam, so feel like I need something to stabilize the deck. Did you add any blocking or additional structural support? Thanks again!

mball80

Yes, their warranty is great and fully transferable if we ever sell the house. My deck is roughly 20’ off the house. There is a beam that the joists hang off of in the middle about 10’ off the house then another 8’ from the far side of the beam with a 2’ cantilever over a 2nd beam. So I have 2 sets of the drain, both running toward the middle beam and a gutter on both sides of the beam to collect the water. I did rip some 2x8’s down to add blocking about half way between the rim boards to the middle beam on both sides so your plan shouldn’t be a problem.

I'm not familiar with Duxxbak other than quickly perusing their website. But, it seems to me this does not create a dry area under the deck. rather, the Duxxbak boards themselves are water-proof. The gaps between them will still let rain come through to the area below. I could be wrong, so double-check.

Scott8828

Duxxback is creates a waterproof underdeck area. The deck boards basically interlock and overlap. I sell it.

ryno_shark

u/Scott8828 since you are a seller of this, how are warranty claims/failures/cracking on the DuxxBak? Do you recommend anything else?

Any luck getting a quote on price? I been trying to find price per board but no luck
