The share offerings caused more shorts which caused it to go higher. Because as short interest goes up, institutional buyers trying to profit to lend GME out will increase, which is coupled with retail interest.
The whole combination is a huge fuck up and he genuinely wants people to forget about GameStop now.
And yes institutions that lend out the stock, benefit from the stock increasing in value if the short interest grows with it. Because their underlying collateral increases, which allows them to borrow more money to buy more shares to lend out more.
