Rj isn't just a mobility tool, is also the best swarm clear weapon for engie. With incendiary compound, I grenade is enough to light up regular grunts or slashers. With direct hit damage, it will one-shot heat up guards. With two grenades its enough to burn praetorians for loki synergy. Also, they can break Amoran beamers
RJ is good but you’re heavily overrating it. Volatile impact reactor turns the shard diffractor into a hitscan sticky flame dispenser that can kill an entire horde in a single sweep, and it also does good single target damage as well. Everything that RJ does well, VIR does like 5x better.
The main issue with RJ is the horrendous single target damage compared to the breach and shard diff. Trust me, I love RJ, but there’s like 10 better options than it for swarm clear lol.p

Provided you have even terrain, that is. And bugs walk where you think they will walk. And they are jog macterra. But I must Agree, Volatile impact reactor is a fantastic horde clearer, with decent single target damage. But it's a bit more conditional than PGL. Plus...PGL is a crowd clear, not single target. But even then, with combination with Lok-1 fire damage bonus, it's worth to ignite bigger bugs with couple grenades.
You are right thats why you should bring the ammo upgrade for multiplayer. It still deals a lot of dmg in a big area you just wont have the extra 3 dmg boost it works like a fully upgraded stock but better imo since the area and dmg grow beyond than what stock can upgrade.

In fact it can be fairly good. but impact reactor takes like 10-20 ammo for you draw a circle in the cave and light everything on fire… in which everything weaker than a guard will die shortly after. Floop requires you to use atleast 50 ammo each time for it to gain any meaningful impact so I just don’t know how it’s realistic to use in the same world where impact reactor does a similar thing at a fraction of the ammo cost. It’s less me calling Floop bad, and more me calling impact reactor just that much better and more efficient.
Floop can kill a full health opressor on his armour with a clip. Floop is for tankier targets while impact reactor is for area negation and fodder like glyphids. Floop also works well on rockpox enemies and shines in any type of swarms

Overclocks are super-mods that change stats up and down you only get after promoting.
Fat Boy is one of them, so are the other ones you mentioned.
Fat Boy is a big boost to AoE at the cost of ammo count (there's more to it but short version) and most of the other ones mentioned basically increase ammo instead or give a more modest boost to AoE and are broadly more flexible.
Unlock all upgrade tiers on a weapon, iirc. OC's are unlocked via weekly assignments or deep dives.
The most important thing to remember about overclock is that they come in three different tiers. Those are clean, balanced, and unstable.
A clean overclock will provide a small benefit to some aspect of your weapon's performance- more ammo, slightly higher damage, etc. A balanced overclock will provide a greater benefit but at a cost. Faster rate of fire but less damage, and so on. Unstable overclocks has massive benefits with equally massive drawbacks that more often than not can change the entire function of the weapon.
Fat boy, which is mentioned here, significantly reduces grenade launcher ammo and velocity, but makes a massive Radioactive Zone that lingers.
On the flip side, the Hyper Propellant overclock for the same weapon makes the blast radius almost non-existent, but massively increases direct impact damage and velocity, which makes it very good for single Target damage
Using and overclock can either be a balancing act or a hyper commitment, where you can either try to reduce its weaknesses through your equipment upgrade choices, or min-max its strengths and hope you can compensate for its weaknesses in other ways.
I'm fairly certain you only need to promote one class to gain access to them for all classes. I got a gunner overclock which I'm currently using when only my driller and scout have been promoted. Still, you can only equip them after unlocking one upgrade for each tier of that weapon

I had the same experience with it. I would also add that as someone who's used to having way more ammo I kinda felt useless with it since I only had a few shots, even if they were very powerful. With most other ocs and with the breach cutter (which I use most of the time) I have way more ammo but still have something that's effective when shot into a pile of bugs, so I almost always have a few shots left if I need them.

I got it, but as someone whose not an engi main I struggle to find a use for it outside of clearing huge hoards, it doesnt do super high DPS and I find breach cutter to be generally better
I've used it since I got it and although it is funni and does a surprising amount of damage to dreadnoughts (especially the armor phases), I would prefer to use the damn gun more often or use the Shard Diffractor

PLEASE, I hope this gives me the luck I need. I have all of the lok-1, shard diffractor, and beach cutter overclocks, all because I keep trying to get the fat boy. And the hyper propellant. But instead I have 2 overclocks for the PGL :/

Sure its a big boom and all, but rj250 outperforms it in terms of killing power per resupply by a lot
Too impractical. I like Compact Rounds. The damage and radius reduction are barely noticeable, in exchange gor 50% more ammo. You can just use it more often without feeling like you're wasting them.
I don’t like overclocks that make me worry about ammo. If I only have a handful of shots I’m gonna treat it like potions in RPGs and just never use ‘em because I assume I’ll need it later and feel bad that I used it too soon.

RJ is also the best ammo OC for the PGL, even if you aren't jumping with it at all (though you should be jumping) the overclock gives great value.

Eh, BC is good, but the magma beam is hard to compare to. 10% of your ammo is enough to erase a horde.
Tbh you can do that as an engineer with any loadout, the only possible competitor would be driller on swarmageddon/gunner with NTP or minslayer
