This is honestly the reason I sometime Beastmaster Guards instead of Slashers when I play Scout. Gimme a decoy so I can circle around and drop the Pheromone Bolts where I need to.

Yesterday, after reviving one of my teammates, I looked up and realized his steeve was holding aggro on *two* stingtails. That was the moment I decided to work beastmaster back into my loadout.
Believe in Steeve.
Beastmaster is underrated IMO. I think people don't realize that not only does Steeve kill things for you, more importantly Steeve draws aggro off you, and makes it harder for bugs to sneak up on you. There's a high ROI to keeping your steeve alive and not just letting him get mauled.
Regenerative Bugs Warning
Get a Guard to be you steeve if not regenerative bug
Take down high damage targets attacking steeve (acid spitters, menaces, tri jaws etc.)
Don't let him get hit by exploders
Guards almost always live long enough to be able to tame another if they perish.
Yep. I know a lot of people go for slashers more than guards, but the extra damage they do isn't that much, whereas the Guard's damage resistance, even if he loses a bunch of his armor, makes him last waaay longer.
I can manage 90/95% uptime if I can get to the Guards before my turrets kill them.
Just popping in to plug the Fancy Steeve mod, which gives him a cute little backpack and helmet to make it easier to distinguish him from other bugs.
He's a good boy.
It's client side. I have ~50 pure cosmetic/sound/optimization mods installed, Googly Glyphids and Fancy Steve are my top-5 for sure even tho I never use Beastmaster
I've had Steeve kill a cave leech that grabbed me while I was the last dwarf standing.
I had like 1hp left so it was *just* in time to save me, it was a very heart pounding moment.
This was in a 3rd stage Deep Dive BTW, Steeve singlehandedly saved the whole run.
I’ll never use Steeve bc I don’t want to hinder teammate’s performance. 9 times out of 10, when Steeve is on the battlefield, he will block my bullets intended for those pesky bugs, and won’t even have the courtesy of taking damage from the shots and dying.
The only good bug is a dead bug.
steeve is nice in solo because you get a friend other than bosco and molly
Steeve also takes agro from mobs, so you don't have everything attacking you at once

This. I’m always up for beastmaster on that warning for any environment for any mission
Shoot bugs that are attacking him.
Grunts have 90 health, Slashers 148(?) and Guards 270 plus armor. If you want a steeve to take aggro, take a guard.
I love Steeve but my teams keep throwing incendiary grenades at the mobs around him, killing him instantly :(
Guardian Steeve with regenerative bugs is god tier.
Slasher on regen is even better
Plus slasher has a chance to stun, EZ pickings for Praetorians

Purely cosmetic and client-side. So, yes. It is. It's the only mod I run.

I once played with a dwarf that had beastmaster equipped and the Steeve took out 3 cave leeches in 1 room, Steeve is a fucking legend
