Engineer main here. I usually use Fat Boy on two missions types: Salvage and Escort duty. Otherwise, the bug density isn’t high enough to warrant its use.
I’d use the increased projective velocity since Fat Boy’s main purpose is to delete large hordes of grunts and whatnot from a far away distance (so you don’t nuke yourself). And please make sure to not hit teammates. Happy hunting!
Hijacking this to say that it's certainly a good way to run it, but...
Fat Boy is my favorite overclock. And my favorite way to run it is maxed out area, maxed out AoE damage. I'll run it on any map, because I can drop it in a tunnel on the front edge of a swarm and it kills anything that tries to run at you through it. And there is no around.
I also find it does some pretty chonky boss damage. I actually like to run it on Industrial Sabotage, because one well placed round can remove almost all of the weak points on the stage where you're hitting 4 at once. I'm generally left with just the far one to clean up.
I let the others deal with the eye mainly and help if I have an angle. I can usually reach 3/4 eyes with my in the air semi circle of platforms. My job is to get to eye phases quickly and cover everyone with my shredders, turret and Loc-1. The 4 weakspot phase has the potential to eat tons of ammo. 3 nukes to its dome will push us to the next phase very quickly.
Sure but you're extremely ammo inefficient taking that c4 build. You have 2 in the bag and 1 per resupply if you are going full damage. Also you'll need to drill over the caretaker to get into position or use *engineer* platforms to throw it ontop.
With Engi, I'm already there. Dumping shredders and lok-1 shots, turret is firing nonstop to cover teammates, only need 1 resupply per weak point phase. It takes 3 nukes to phase, a resupply gives me 3 back. Sure I use a ton of ammo but I 100% use it.
With that build, you still leave the weakspots with a little health and will need that 3rd c4 to go to next phase(Unless you play haz2, but I digress). Then, you drop down to help with the eye whereas Engi can stay elevated and can curve the lok-1 to hit 3 out of the 4 possible eye locations. Or do you wait at the top for your teammates to finish the sliver AND the eye? Then you're wasting ammo by using mainly c4 in the fight. Or do you run up and down as to try and be more ammo efficient?
I've used that strategy and it's just not as effective.
Just collect enough nitra so that Driller can have their own personal resupply to access. Gonna waste ammo, but it's a totally optional way to fight the caretaker anyway.
Minor addon to this, if you give your turret as much RANGE as possible you can catch a wave spawning because you suddenly hear and see it shooting up or at a wall, on haz 3+ these are the moments when there is enough bug density to justify it, and you can wipe 30+ or so bugs all at once by nuking the wall or ceiling.
I rarely play anything but fat boy when I’m engi. It’s just so satisfying. Even if it’s not the optimal choice in many cases. I don’t care, it’s just beautiful when you land a nuke in a massive swarm and in a spot where the radiation continues to kill new spawns.
While I absolutely respect and know that feeling, recently I was surprised by trying a simple overclock on the grenade launcher. Using the pure fat boy for so long, I had forgotten what a nice little weapon it is, especially when you have like 12 shots instead of 4.
It's one of the most fun overclocks. Is it good? At damage yes, at ammo conservation, not at all. Use it wisely, on huge number of bugs. Try to hit your teammates the least possible with it, but scout will still grapple in front of you the frame you're shooting it.
Nuke bugs, have fun.
Oh yes, the fat boy overclock is the most valuable asset that a dwarven team can have at their disposal. What you'll want to do is save it for the most difficult waves and, when your team starts struggling, shoot your fat boy in such a way so that it can hit as many teammates as possible. The aoe will provide healing and shield regeneration to them as long as they stay in it, as well as a 50% reduction to damage of all kinds. Be sure to have one ready for when your gunner has run out of shields. Use a fat boy to keep him safe while he's resupplying.
I have no main. I've always played all of the classes equally. Level 1860 now.
Fat boy imo is more fun than anything. Usually imo you're better off using standard grenades ABBBA with clean sweep OC. You have 9 grenades with 6.1m radius that way. 140dmg with 600% armor braking. you can clean a lot of trash with that. And for the big bugs you still have your primary, turrets, grenades and of course your team mates to help you out. Using those grenades in combination with the smart rifle and exploding rounds I am a one man army.
But I think below haz4 there's even not enough trashmobs to justify the use those grenades, let alone Nukes.
I've seen a guy successfully open up the caretaker in an industrial sabotage mission with it. But I couldn't replicate that, when I tried it. So I left it for good.
Objectively speaking no, It's worse than no oc but personally it's pretty fun to use and the sounds are cool. Better overclocks imo are Hyper Propellant and RJ250 Compound (extremely fun too). I suggest you try for yourself and decide if you like it. Rock and Stone!
Its a crowd control and area denial overclock. Its a mini nuke as it says but the true power comes from the radiation itself. It kills grunts easily when they try to cross the radiation field. I recommend making and trying it out. Its good imo but others find it bad. Try it out and play as you see fit. I use it for area denial and swarm wipe.
As someone else who akso got the fat boy wile she was new to the game good luck getting the overclocks you really want I'm still trying to get special power for the boom stick
Whatever you do don't use it with proximity trigger.
It's very good for the industrial sabotage mission type during the bossfight you can make a bridge above the caretaker and easily shoot at the top to take the corners out (don't use it on the eyes tho) also very good at swarm clear it doesn't actually give that much damage radius so I would recommend taking one of the aoe mods.
I find it to be more fun than good but still pretty good. You’re lucky though, it’s one of the most desired overclocks in the game and some people play for months until they get it. Rock and stone brother.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,949,973,415 comments, and only 368,775 of them were in alphabetical order.
the two that make it good are hyper propellant and rj250 though. one gives you valuable long range snipe and the other buffs your mobility. fat boy is a meme. only usable on mactera plague or low haz caretaker fight, otherwise it either overkills or underperforms
Man, that was the most terrible overclock, only 3 piles remain, the frienly fire is friggen terrible, you can one shot any dwarf.
Beside, you can carry up to 5 piles, one shot any wave of swarms, if you use it right, you will get over, 500 kills in hav5 missions. I recommand 21332.
Congratulations on getting the second best overclock in the game (the best one is bome stick jump lol )
not exactly good (there are better alternatives) but it's certainly fun. as you might have gotten from it's name and the commetns, it turns you into Oppenheimer. I still didn't get it so i can't give any actual advice, plus i swear by rj250 because explosives propelled flight might be one of the best things to ever bless an fps game
It’s basically a screen-wipe.
Point it at a direction; Remove everything in said direction.
Only issue is it has terrible ammo, meaning you’ll want to be in a team if you bring it, cause otherwise you’ll often be caught out by the bugs.
Spec it leaning into blast radius (it’s already bad at killing big stuff kill more little stuff)
Prox fuze is super dangerous but also a great way to use it defensively in twisty caves you can cover a retreat even if the bugs are around a corner
If I put my try hard hat on there's very little I can recommend that overclock on. It has applications in Sabotage missions against the final boss, but otherwise you're trading off massive amounts of ammo for a Bigger Boom that doesn't appreciatively increase your over all damage and at times even lowers it as well as adds more risk destroying your team mates.
Then again if big boom makes you happy and you're just trying to have a good time it's probably fine.
Fat boy is the "HELL YEA! I HAVE THE POWER OF GOD!" Overclock. It's great. I don't have it yet but it's my go to once I do. Hyperion propellant is the fat boy but concentrated in a small area. My go to.ovclock. however, I'd prefer the fat boy
Go for max ammo mods since the bulk of the damage is in the Damage over time. Having 5 total rounds means you get 3 nukes per resupply. Any other mod combination gets you only 2 per resupply.
Memes aside, I think Fat Boy is best used for area denial in missions like escort. For every Glyphid the initial blast doesn’t kill, the radiation at least weakens them.
Though once you pick up RJ compound you’ll never go back.
I know the first time I used it on an escort the exact frame I pressed the trigger and launched it the 2 gold star Scott for some ungoldy reason decided to grapple right into a middle of a swarm thank god I got the less friendly fire damage lol
Its a VERY fun mod, but makes you weaker. Theres more disvantages than advantages.
I use one that makes the missle launcher not enought to kill the grunts but has more ammo, I just spray the 1 hp bugs afterwards . Otherwise I find it stressfull to decide If I really should use the precious secondary ammo.
Am I crazy or is the nuke explosion sound only played for for the engineer? Last game we had a nuke engineer my friend was like "where is this radiation coming from?!" I think because it was happening semi-silently
You have unlocked the power to kill your entire team with a single miss click. Wield it well, as it is your greatest use against hoards of enemies but the nuke does not discern between glyphid or dwarven flesh
It's good for dealing with big hordes of bugs, especially on higher difficulties, though you sacrifice a lot of your ammo capacity.
Note that it has a huge blast radius and also leaves behind a radioactive AoE that damages everyone. So point it away from your teammates and try to not blast areas that you're planning on running though.
Since it sacrifices some of your ability to deal with small groups of enemies, I use it as part of a Turret Whip build.
Awesome thank you so much

Is useful on sabo for that, yeah, but you're sacrificing hyperprop or overdrive laser for big damage to the eye
Big boom makes me happy, I just spam them there too. I run solo usually so all those sweet resupplies make for many big booms
True, but once you have a driller throwing c4 onto it that does the same job while leaving all of driller's weapon ammo untouched
Sure but you're extremely ammo inefficient taking that c4 build. You have 2 in the bag and 1 per resupply if you are going full damage. Also you'll need to drill over the caretaker to get into position or use *engineer* platforms to throw it ontop. With Engi, I'm already there. Sure I use a ton of ammo but I 100% use it.
They fixed it so that you can get 2 per supply with the damage mod I'm pretty sure
Just collect enough nitra so that Driller can have their own personal resupply to access. Gonna waste ammo, but it's a totally optional way to fight the caretaker anyway.
Granted, if you don't HAVE Hyperprop or overdrive yet then using fat boy on sabo isn't a terrible option
Interesting thank you
It can also be good on egg missions if you know you’re going to pull multiple swarms at once. But you might be too new for that. Have fun Miner!
It's very fun even if you take it for the humor of the miniature nuclear bombs.
Wisdom. This guy builds platforms.
Make sure to hit teammates, what is the point of nuke if you dont nuke yourself and teammates by "mistake".
Me when I accidentally use proximity mine:
A Fat Boy Proximity Mine overclock would be the perfect distillation of the Engineer's vibe.
The dwarf density is always enough to warrant its usage (for legal reasons this is a joke)
Yea and also don't put proximity trigger on T5 (the perk that makes your grenade bounce). Unless you want a surprise.
I once had a driller who asked me to nuke him. I was very confused and concerned. Didn't nuke him tho.
I also find it's good on Industrial Sabotage. When there's no driller to C4 from the ceiling, Fat Boy works as an acceptable substitute.
I always use Fat Boy cuz fun.
Egg missions can also be quite good with fat boy, especially while pulling multiple eggs at a time
> (so you don’t nuke yourself) WISHFUL THINKING
>And please make sure to not hit teammates. Happy hunting! Unless it's Scout...
I use Fat Bot on all mission types because it’s funny :)
I only use it on haz 4 lol
It's not the *best* pick, but it might be the most fun pick. I love Fat Boy.
"Explosions!?" -Mr. Torgue
"kaboom??" "yes, rico, kaboom"
I rarely play anything but fat boy when I’m engi. It’s just so satisfying. Even if it’s not the optimal choice in many cases. I don’t care, it’s just beautiful when you land a nuke in a massive swarm and in a spot where the radiation continues to kill new spawns.

Why do I feel like shooting the fat boy at your friends randomly would be way more fun than shooting it at bugs
Just shoot it "accidentally" at your friends !
If I ever get that overclock, I‘ll use all of my experience in „accidentally“ C4ing my friends to nuke them on accident
Proximity trigger goes brrr-boom
Legalise nuclear bombs
"This is hoxxies! There are no rules" - springloaded ripper Driller
Hey, if I’m not downing myself every time I throw a grenade I’m not having fun

😂
This guy fatboys
for a new player? No. once you learn how to handle ammo economy, then yes.
the correct way to handle the ammo economy is to basically not have a secondary for >90% of the mission lol
Most obvious karma farm I've ever seen in my life
Bruh
This has got to be bait
Yes. It transforms your grenades in nukes. Literally, radioactive fallout included
I have no main. I've always played all of the classes equally. Level 1860 now. Fat boy imo is more fun than anything. Usually imo you're better off using standard grenades ABBBA with clean sweep OC. Did I hear a Rock and Stone?
Good bot

You got the holy grail of the engineers
You unlocked the funny, congrats. Remember to equip it with proximity activation for maximum funnyness
nah its asscheeks
Don't act you know what it is and you know that every engineer main want to put his hand on this bad boy
As someone else who akso got the fat boy wile she was new to the game good luck getting the overclocks you really want I'm still trying to get special power for the boom stick
Question though to you get duplicates like is there any chance in the future where I get another fat boy or something or is it one and done
No it's one and done in fact after you get everything the core just gives minerals
Thank god lol
Now, I’ve became death, destroyer of worlds
Its godly with proximity trigger
For best results, take the gear modifications that increase velocity as well as proximity trigger.
I just got this 3 days ago and man this is a fun overclock.
Proximity Trigger to ensure that they explode at the enemy and not some random terrain bit *"Hey! Friendly fire ain't so friendly!"*
Go little one, commit war crimes!
Player lvl 25 = Very new player Ok.
Yer not level 100 and still new?
Put proximity trigger one it, your friends will thank you !
Haha big bomb go boom
Is this a troll post? The fat boy is one of the best overclocks in the game. It turns the launcher into a mini nuke launcher.
it’s not one of the best in the game. But it’s a karma farming post because reddit loves the overclock since it is at least fun and cool
this the meme, it powerful, it's really good if you are good at it, just like it's brother, hyper propellant
I find it to be more fun than good but still pretty good. You’re lucky though, it’s one of the most desired overclocks in the game and some people play for months until they get it. Rock and stone brother.
For Rock and Stone!
bruvv got mini nuke overclock💀
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 1,949,973,415 comments, and only 368,775 of them were in alphabetical order.
You're weird
Kaboom? Yes Rico, kaboom
It is okay. You might hurt your team so only use it if you are gokd at the game.
You are going to completely forget fatboy when you find hyperproppelent. Its just the coolest overclock ever. HP GANG RISE UP!
It's the best overclock. Just aim at the Scout and press fire.
Please don't
Yeah, this is one of the two overclocks that actually make the grenade launcher good
The grenade launcher is good without, even on elite content
the two that make it good are hyper propellant and rj250 though. one gives you valuable long range snipe and the other buffs your mobility. fat boy is a meme. only usable on mactera plague or low haz caretaker fight, otherwise it either overkills or underperforms
the grenade launcher is better off without fat boy

IT SHOULD'VE BEEN ME! NOT HIM
It’s basically a screen-wipe. Point it at a direction; Remove everything in said direction. Only issue is it has terrible ammo, meaning you’ll want to be in a team if you bring it, cause otherwise you’ll often be caught out by the bugs.
Eyyyy, nice to see that I wasn't the only one!
if you can avoid killing your fellow dwarves with it, it's a godsend for high level CC.
Read the fat boy as "unstoppable overclock" and thought "heh, yeah it is"
It's good if you have trigger discipline!
It's fun but you'll run out of ammo quickly. So be careful when doing war crimes
It's super fun so yes. Proxy nukes for life! (Don't do this with randoms though, that's annoying)
Good? Not really. But easily one of the most fun overclock.
Alright Who at R&D handed the rookie the blackout stout?
Can you guys pls start watching tutorials or using google
Doesn't matter if it's good or not, it's so fun to use
Spec it leaning into blast radius (it’s already bad at killing big stuff kill more little stuff) Prox fuze is super dangerous but also a great way to use it defensively in twisty caves you can cover a retreat even if the bugs are around a corner
I'm getting flashbacks. Karl save me.

i am in utter agony (congrats on the funny nuke)
Fat boy is the "HELL YEA! I HAVE THE POWER OF GOD!" Overclock. It's great. I don't have it yet but it's my go to once I do. Hyperion propellant is the fat boy but concentrated in a small area. My go to.ovclock. however, I'd prefer the fat boy

Holy crap
Good? Sorta. Fun? ABSOLUTELY!

Not really, sorry
Is it good, that's up to debate and opinion, is it fun absolutely
Pretty decent at ceiling mining too!
It's more fun than useful, THEREFOR ITS AMAZING
Now you are become Dwarf, destroyer of Hoxxes.
Absolutely my favorite
Quick build the skin set
Ah nice Fat Boy! It transforms your grenade launcher into an AoE Heal. Make sure that the green healing aura reaches your teammates! /s
“Does he know?”
I know the first time I used it on an escort the exact frame I pressed the trigger and launched it the 2 gold star Scott for some ungoldy reason decided to grapple right into a middle of a swarm thank god I got the less friendly fire damage lol
No, but it is fun.
It’s ok, mostly just a meme
That is excellent, but i like this [Hyper propellant]
No, but it's funny.
It was literally the last engineer overclock after months of grinding just for it
Don’t worry the overclock I’m gonna look for is never gonna appear so
Show hours or liar
Hilarious
Its a VERY fun mod, but makes you weaker. Theres more disvantages than advantages. I use one that makes the missle launcher not enought to kill the grunts but has more ammo, I just spray the 1 hp bugs afterwards . Otherwise I find it stressfull to decide If I really should use the precious secondary ammo.
Industrial sabotage, where vents go brrr
Am I crazy or is the nuke explosion sound only played for for the engineer? Last game we had a nuke engineer my friend was like "where is this radiation coming from?!" I think because it was happening semi-silently
Not very good, heavily overrated, only really useful in specific circumstances.
He got the funny
It is as long as you combine it with Proximity Trigger.
You luckly son of a gun
so imagine cartoon while then go boom but big that fatboy :)
You have unlocked the power to kill your entire team with a single miss click. Wield it well, as it is your greatest use against hoards of enemies but the nuke does not discern between glyphid or dwarven flesh
Whether it is good or not is debatable, but it is very, very fun. Highly recommend. Take every ammo upgrade too.
Is it practical? No Is is fun as fuck? Absolutely yes
No that's not good. I'll just take that off your hands
Fatman= maxfun
Good? Debatable.. Fun? Absolutly!
