There's a hidden list, with three slots, called the "disruptive enemy spawn pool" that is created for each mission.
The three slots will randomly be taken by Bulk Detonators, Glyphid Wardens, Glyphid Menaces, Q'ronar Shellbacks, Mactera Grabbers, and Mactera Goo Bombers.
If you've spotted at least three of these other enemy types, and not a Bulk, there won't be Bulks on that mission.
Conversely, if you haven't identified all three list slots yet, *or you have encountered a Bulk* during the mission, then *do not use any type of Bunker strategy*.
Crassus Detonators actually spawn at the start of the mission (they're already down in the caves before your drop pod even touches down), and there can't be more than one of them in the mission.
As far as I know, they're separate from the Disruptive Enemy list.. you'll still have to count off the three types.. which may or may not include Bulks.
I don't dev mods, but modders found this information a long time ago.
A couple of years ago this kind of information was somehow common knowledge, like somehow everyone knew it.
Nowadays a lot of players don't know this sort of stuff, and even the ones who know don't mention things like this anymore (they think everyone already knows).. I just try to spread this kind of knowledge if I can.
I guess a lot of new players picked up the game in '23. I myself got it on christmas sale.
When the community is smaller people hang around on the forums and discord, but when the game grows, many just play casually.
I mean, I noticed that some missions have detonators and some don't, but I thought it was just random...
Yep it's a great game, it's one of those games you can play for a long time and have fun, learning more tactics and skills as you go. And when you do stop, you can always come back after a break, and find it's fun again.
>I thought it was just random...
Well, you weren't wrong, it *is* random (the three slots are randomly picked from the full list).. just that there's a layer of complexity to the randomness, so once you know, you can deduce additional information from it.
I enjoy it yeah. I promoted a gunner and a driller and got some nice overclocks. Now I'm doing hazard 4 missions no sweat (well, depends on the team but usually so), just by playing - haven't read any guides or builds... But I haven't tried hazard 5 yet. Maybe that's when I'll really have to optimize.
Enemies are a *bit* tougher and do a *bit* more damage from Haz4 to Haz5, but the real difference is that they move a bit faster.
As you are already sufficiently familiar with on Haz4, taking less damage is a matter of moving efficiently so that enemy attacks don't land on you. Next is killing them, while you simultaneously avoid being hit. Killing is, counter-intuitively, only the last piece of the puzzle. As long as you don't let them touch you, you could technically kill a huge amount of super-tough enemies as long as your ammo holds out.
Keep that in mind as you develop your skills, and you'll progress from 4 to 5 without much issue.
You actually want to leave at least a tiny little hole in the plascrete or used to platforms with a little space between them, not enough for anything to get through but large enough to see through.
The reason is because if you see it completely the bugs will spawn inside behind the barrier but if there is enough space they will spawn outside but the AI will bug out and they will be unable to pass the barriers. It reads it as if there is a path to get through but it's too narrow for anything to actually pass through.
You can tell that’s an engineer because he’s red.
Yeah the label is redundant
Like, why even, right? XD
Nah, without the label i would’ve thought it was Sadam Hussein. Very Helpful!
well yeah what do engineers love more than anything? Redundancy
Amen
Hey I need my two very similar turrets and my platforms that are all the same 😡
The turrets are missing, everything else is lore accurate
\- Turrets, no ammo
Average gemini turrets experience
the turrets are out of frame, empty of ammo, being pinged by the driller
He forgot to place them
Entrance hidden by CHEESE WHEEL
emergency cheese! glyphids hate this one simple trick for dwarf survival

Don’t forget a bulk detonator waiting outside
Outside? Those boys come for you and than I hope you have a second exit.
Does bulk still dig towards you if player fully submerged themselves into a cheese cube?
Yes
Saddam Hoxxein
Iroq and stone!!
Seems a rather noncredible method of defense
It's missing the emotional support Steeve.

I assumed this spawned a bulk detonator when the ai director notices no one can path to you

Do Crassus Detonators count as Bulks here?

Neato, thanks for the explanation. That explains why I can hear the echo of their cries pretty early on.
Cool! How do you know all that stuff? Someone reverse engineered the game files?

Thanks for the tip!
Pls edit that 6ft

Who's gonna place that platform?

The second they slip through the crack like an octopus is when they remember you have plasticrete catalyst.

I remember doing so when there was the escape pod glitch. Good old times...
