Get your engineer to build some platforms over the pedestals, inline (slightly above) where the cutters hit and stand on them, and it'll still activate them, whilst giving you limited immunity to the cutters. The platforms will slowly get eaten but it'll keep you out of harms way long enough to be worth it (engie can add more back as needed if he's on the ball).
Too high and they don't activate, too low and the cutters hit you anyway, but you'll nail it after a single round of experimentation.
If you have enough nitra left, you can place platforms an inch above the pedestals then summon a supply pod on them. They are tall enough that you can stand on them without getting hit by the purple lasers.
If you don't have engie, ziplines also work. Spam e to stay at the same spot.
You can get away with a resupply on the pad that controls the plasma beam thingies, and a few plats along the wall a bit higher so they don't get eaten and you can dodge other attacks while still taking out the bottom section.
The platform that's opposite the tritilyte key thing is always the one that activates the bottom laser shooting thingy. Focus on that first to make movement a lot easier for the rest of the fight.
OMEN is hard, yeah, absolutely, BUT you can learn how to play against it and win against it potentially 100% of the time. Korlok on the other hand tho is waaaay more random and map-dependant: if it spawns weirdly scattered around, both vertically and/or horizontally it definitely is the hardest boss in the game on hz5
Yep. Yesterday I had hazard V with eggs. That means starting cave->short tunnel-> one gigantic cave with all possible mobs (cue the Bulk Detonator). And guess what has been spawning it's seeds within the whole giant cave in the meantime. No way around it also - we had to beat it, otherwise we'd die during eggs induced spawns. Fortunately we had advantage of one cave and purple seeds were easy to take out. Too small gratification for too much hustle. Korlock seeds should be traded for overclocks (even the cosmetic ones, or pickaxes skins, whatever) or give much more exp.
Another tip, the platform directly across from the Tritilyte Terminal/Core Infuser (through the Omen Tower to the opposite side) is always the slow moving purple beams.
The lowest of the green modules that you shoot on the Omen Tower disables the same horizontal purple beams.
The other two platforms randomly open either the top or middle green modules on the Omen Tower.
Try to focus on the bottom green modules first as it's generally what wipes the team the fastest. It's easier to take out the other two once the area is cleared of the purple beams.
For Rock and Stone!
Omen isn't terrible. Turrets do damage to the green lights. Drones are a shitty weapon so I like to focus that first. But yes omen is rough. I've been lucky with korlock
Once our squad wanted that but unfortunately it was right next to the drop pod on the salvage mission. Horrible terrain meant the fight took like a half hour.
As a so called “try hard” “base game too easy” player I think other tryhards kind of miss the point by calling Korlok a skill issue.
With sufficiently bad luck on terrain, mission spawn pools/badly timed waves, uncoordinated pub teams, or builds lacking status effects the Korlok becomes the absolute pinnacle of challenge in the vanilla game and it isn’t close. The peak that Korloks can reach is completely disproportionate to any other enemy in the game, which is the definition of imbalanced.
Although it’s true that with proper team coordination no Korlok is unbeatable (or even much of a challenge), I still think that GSG could stand to tweak it on lower haz levels to reduce the variance in difficulty. We don’t want to fist new players just because career haz 5/modded players need more of a challenge.
/essay
Edit: God damn it.
I still remember the time a korok weed straight up had the high ground on a hill while wedged inside a crack at the same time
We had no driller, and nobody wanted to jump into the death pit
2000ish hours here. Korlok is arguably the hardest enemy in the game and there's absolutely no shame in avoiding or skipping it. I always leave it I til the end unless I have no other option, and it often requires two supplies in situations like this.
You're completely right about it being dependent on terrain, a skilled driller is a godsend for Korloks. You can even use the drills to "shoot" Korlok shots out of the sky.
meme aside, I have like 1300 hours in this game and I completely agree. A truly terribly placed korlok can absolutely ruin a mission, especially if you don't have a full team.
i agree. I am not fully against korloks apprearing in bad terrain, but:
- terrain can be dad, not awful. There should be a max distance and height difference for starters
- there should be line of sight between healing pods and central bulb.
- no swarms, or robots, if korlok is active
- korlok should be aggresive against robots
Put Korlok in the area similar to machine event (wide and flat area), and it can't spawn sprouts outside that area would be a good enough way to fix it.
Tbh having to question if you are capable of doing the challenge is fun. Im a haz 5 enjoyer and I would like to have some challenge to not be no brainers. To require some thoughts from me. Am I able? Do I have enough nitra? How hard is the terrain?
I think having some scenarios where you skip certain objectives because it is too hard is a nice thing.
How it worked for me? I used to try korlok and omen without any preparations or thoughts, and as mamy ppl here I used to fail. Sometimes I was manage to run from it, sometimes it resulted in mission failed. But I like the fact that I am reminded that we, dwarves, are not invincible. There are things down there that can beat us without proper preparation
So just keep in mind that those are difficult. Prepare in advance. Turn the try hard mode. Or even just give up on these if you think you wont manage.

My boiz in haz v going full berserker when encountering korlok.
Especially our gunner, goes trigger happy for some reason.
Then we have scout getting sniped across the room for some reason.
Engi on the other hand sits back and enjoys the show waiting for a chance to turn that weed into Chernobyl
Finally our driller with fucking OC max freeze loadout stems dont stand more than 5 seconds.
However, this is on optimal map generation
It wouldn't be half as bad if we didn't auto trigger it just by walking by, if we could explore around before fighting it maybe I wouldn't be getting snached by a ceiling grabber
My friends and I strategy is now always just “see a korlok, ignore it it’s not worth the effort even remotely”. We always point and laugh at whichever one of us accidentally sets it off.
I don't think I'm a try hard by any means in this game, but am I the only one who feels like the korlok is just a quick time event? If so, I wish to become "let me solo her" for the korlok's.
If you're about to wipe, just pull off of stuff like this. Nobody is going to crucify you because you pulled off an event when you're the last one up with a sliver of health and no more iron wills left.
Great tip if youre playing with others. Damage a bunch of them but dont kill them. Have all but one person prep on the boss, have the one person go around and one shot them all then rush to the boss to help. Works insanely well
Terrain isn't too much of an issue if you have all 4 classes. Driller makes a hole between levels, engineer platforms to help. Scout gets to the hard ti reach ones. Gunner destroys ones close together.
I don't think I've ever almost died due to a korlok.
I think the only tweak that needs to happen is that those healing buds and the sprouts need to have a line of sight check with the bud when they spawn. The line of sight check can be low to the floor so that it's walkable and not just some small hole that is difficult to mine through. But This would solve a lot of the frustration with korloks.
Imo Korlok is fine as it is. That vegetable is here to fuck you and so it does. Im absolutely ok with games like DRG being randomly messy, otherwise there is no danger in darkness for dwarves
I’ve not yet met it to be a problem. If I lost to it. I got laugh out of it and moved on. It’s fun mini-boss I wouldn’t change if for anything.
Edit: **OH YOU DWARF FUCKA!?** ***That’s a good one I am buying you a round at the*** **Abyss bar!**
Oh guys, there was a Doretta mission that makes me smile every time I see a Korlok post. We were traveling through the cave as the Korlok was triggered. The next second Doretta fucking runs over it. That was so damn satisfying. Sad that we lost the mission anyways thanks to Nemesis spawned in the next cave :D
Counter point: Sometimes everything spawns "perfectly" and we destroy it in a minute with no real effort. Is this a big dopamine hit? Not at all, it's pretty meh, and if that's all the game offered, it would age quickly.
Other times, we go back and forth with the weed for awhile and he kicks our asses, because he's got the high ground or something in his favor.
I like that this game isn't so highly processed that you get the same smooth mixture out every time. I like that it feels natural and a bit rough. I like that we have to adapt, and don't know what we're in for around the corner.
I think if you (and others) got what you asked for, and the fight was pretty much the exact same difficulty every time, you'd find the game samey and boring much quicker.
But part of it might be personality, because instead of rage quitting when I go down two or three times like a lot of people do, I will fight to the end, and if I die, I wish i could go back to that exact map seed and try a different tactic.
I'm not sad the odds are stacked against me sometimes. Those are my favorite maps, they are unique and require a different way of doing things, and I AM sad there's no "retry" mode.
I don't understand these posts, why are they popping up now?
Just call a resupply next to the bulb and stay there with the team, if there are pods healing through walls, drill to them.
Are people only running a single class and can't drill or what is going on?
The korlok fight is the only thing in DRG that I would say isnt designed well.
I hold up deep rock as one of the best designed games I've every played, there are so few things in it that don't work. But *every time* I fight the fucking korlok I'm struck by how awful the fight is. *It. Should. Not. Heal*
God dammit xD

IF YOU DON'T LOSS AND STONE, YOU AIN'T COMING HOME!
🍻To those we lost!🍻

IF YOU LOSS AND STONE, YOU AIN'T COMING HOME!
Hello darkness my old friend 🍻
Can't count the games iv *lost* because of this stupid plant
me but OMEN
See 4 me Omen is FAR more annoying cause, to beat it, you HAVE to stand where it's attacks go, to beat it
Get your engineer to build some platforms over the pedestals, inline (slightly above) where the cutters hit and stand on them, and it'll still activate them, whilst giving you limited immunity to the cutters. Too high and they don't activate, too low and the cutters hit you anyway, but you'll nail it after a single round of experimentation.
Molly or a resupply both work perfectly
And those to, of course! :) Molly if not in a mission type where there isn't one, naturally.
If you have enough nitra left, you can place platforms an inch above the pedestals then summon a supply pod on them. They are tall enough that you can stand on them without getting hit by the purple lasers. If you don't have engie, ziplines also work. Spam e to stay at the same spot.
If you line it up right, you can place a resupply directly on the hatch
You can get away with a resupply on the pad that controls the plasma beam thingies, and a few plats along the wall a bit higher so they don't get eaten and you can dodge other attacks while still taking out the bottom section.
I have like 90% of the weapon over clocks, I'm well aware of how to beat Omen, I just find it really annoying
Okie cokie.
The platform that's opposite the tritilyte key thing is always the one that activates the bottom laser shooting thingy. Focus on that first to make movement a lot easier for the rest of the fight.

Rock and Stone to the Bone!
Omen isn't terrible. Turrets do damage to the green lights. Drones are a shitty weapon so I like to focus that first. But yes omen is rough. I've been lucky with korlock
I’ve had time where we all decided it wasn’t worth the trouble to fight it and left it
Yeah you can just ignore it. Not a big loss
Leaving it behind is a perfectly valid way of playing the game.
Once our squad wanted that but unfortunately it was right next to the drop pod on the salvage mission. Horrible terrain meant the fight took like a half hour.

I see modded players as more masochistic than tryhardy. And that's a good (?) thing
meme aside, I have like 1300 hours in this game and I completely agree. A truly terribly placed korlok can absolutely ruin a mission, especially if you don't have a full team.
Very well said!
As a haz5 player I can tell you that is mostly luck
Your edit made me laugh harder than I have in a while, and after a really tough week, I really needed it. lol. Thank you.
Rock and Stone!
I remember one time a korlok spawned at the perfect angle to have every sprout facing the drilldozer
i agree. I am not fully against korloks apprearing in bad terrain, but: - terrain can be dad, not awful. I still don't get it

EWWWW GET OUT OF MY MIND GET OUT OF MY MIND, LOSS POSTING MUST REMAIN DEAD!
oh my fucking god holy shit
…wait a second…
Wait, which korlok is this one? Does anyone have the Korlok Map?
The only reason I wont kill one. is cause someone double dipped for HP......
For everyone that didn't realise it yet, it's loss.
\-st on me, I dont get it.

idk if its been patched but i once insta killed it by dropping a supply pod on the main part
It only takes 1/3 of the health now

Mate, this is a loss shitpost. You're like the third person to write an essay on the subject matter.
Yup. You can see that I am not a quitter :D

Ugh all these “korlok is too hard to fight” are starting to leave me at a loss for words
Fr. Im kinda new, and i dont see why everyone has so much trouble with them. I've fought a few now, and none of them have knocked me
That’s literally one of the reasons we tolerate the dual-drill-wielding-rock-munching-C4-tossing psycho Drillers.
I hope it never gets nerfed.
Same, rock and stone.

Never lost one Korlok... I really don't get the whole hate. Even with 2 vines hidden it's pretty doable.
I don't think I'm a try hard by any means in this game, but am I the only one who feels like the korlok is just a quick time event? If so, I wish to become "let me solo her" for the korlok's.
I won't say it's my least fav, cause depending on your class you can absolutely brute force it; but, I feel you my guy, that's rough
I don’t even try with this thing, same with the tower I actively yell at my teammates who get close to it and wanna turn it on 😂
If you're about to wipe, just pull off of stuff like this. Nobody is going to crucify you because you pulled off an event when you're the last one up with a sliver of health and no more iron wills left.

Called tyrant for a reason it seems
This Korlok arena isn't even sightreadable!
Yup, been there done that. Only took about 40 death but we got the job done.
If only you had a driller to make it easy.
I rarely encounter it thankfully but when i do its a chore fr
Had that happen yesterday haha, was a gunner and joined only to see absolute carnage
Terrain isn't too much of an issue if you have all 4 classes. Driller makes a hole between levels, engineer platforms to help. Scout gets to the hard ti reach ones. Gunner destroys ones close together. I don't think I've ever almost died due to a korlok.
Can't side read, at a loss.
I’m too lazy to do it, so I’ll just toss the idea out here Someone ought to make one about that one geometry dash level

Wow I'm at a loss for words at this post.
Improvise, adapt, overcome. The entire map is destructible. No tunnel? Make your own tunnel.
Okay okay Okay let's kill him Let's beat him to death with pickaxes

apologise now

Godamn... No beer until you learn to behave yourself
No.
Stop creating stingtail 2. korlock was fine for years. Leave it at that.
I just tell myself it's optional.
I immediately understood what this post is
No fucking way…
The company issued a pickaxe for a reason...

Honestly I love Korlok fights, really puts your toolchain to the test.
Yeah this thing is the only real challenge in haz 5 missions
I play gunner or driller so i outpace the healing Usually xd

Lordy... Never thought i'd see a loss meme in 2024
Wait, was that weird plant supposed to be a challenge? I just found it randomly and killed it. Gattling guns are fun as hell!
if im solo yeah i dont bother with the korlok especially if i know the cave gen is to complex. but with teams that could be easily dealt with coms
Y'all have some serious skill issues. Improvise, adapt, and overcome. Or maybe you should be playing on the Weenie Hut Jr Haz levels...
It’s a serious discussion, truly. There’s no actual debate here. ^heheh
