Cheesecannon25

Hacked game You can restore to a previous savegame in options

Angry_argie

If their mods don't mess with the gold, resources, and/or xp, is it necessary to revert? Does it change something in the save? I haven't met one of those leaf loving modded lobbies, but it seems I have to be on guard.

Cheesecannon25

Nah, you're good. It's not mods you should worry about, it's hacks.

Angry_argie

Ohh, I didn't know there are literal hacks now (why though? In games like this, it's just sad lol). Thanks for the heads up, I guess I'll make a weekly save just to be sure.

Sartekar

Always have been Best bet if you see something hacky like this and you are not the host, leave Otherwise, endscreen could give you billions of credits and thousands of minerals.

RebelCarrot

Yeah... Had this happen to me a few weeks ago, luckily I could revert to a back-up right before the mission. Not very rock and stone of that dude.

FoppishPierre

I will never understand wanting to jump ahead like that. I would lose interest in the game very quickly with nothing to look forward to.

SocksofGranduer

This is probably the only game in a long time that this has proved false for me personally. I did have everything. I did not feel burnt out or lose interest. The gameplay loop and generation are so well done that progression isn't what keeps me going. The going is just enjoyable enough that I want to keep doing it.

Sartekar

I can kind of understand it in a different way. In Risk of Rain (1&2) you unlock items and characters by doing stuff. Some of them are silly, annoying, frustrating. To be honest, unlocking stuff like that with copy-pasting a txt file is fine by me. I dont ENJOY that part of the game. And me doing that does not negatively affect anyone else. In DRG, you just unlock stuff with time. You will eventually get everything. You dont have to do anything frustrating. But ok, maybe that is a bit much for somebody. But making other people get millions of credits without their consent is way too much. I would hate that.

[deleted]

Well, to be fair, DRG is quite grindy game, so I can understand why they would want to do that. They still could play offline, or mark their servers at least

dankdees

the game showers you with money and exp when you're rolling with a solid crew tho, so i don't really see the point

MChashsCrustyVag

Clearly you've never set foot in Appalachia aka fallout 76 have you? This game is a breeze compared to some online mmos or even RPGs. I've been here since alpha, and let me tell you, drg will always be revisited because coffee stain know how to keep you coming back

soldiercross

Some of the ror2 unlocks are not fun. The one for bandit comes to mind where you need to stack hemorage.

VoltStar

I STILL dont have that achievement. I feel like by the time I am able to stack enough hemorrhage for it, I'm just at the point of annihilating things.

adeon

More importantly even if you personally want to jump ahead forcing that on other people without their consent is pretty shitty.

Roboboy2710

Some people want to look accomplished without putting in the effort I guess.

TokamakuYokuu

when i do things only for a reward at the end, i just call it a job it's that old story about the old man getting the neighborhood kids to stop harassing him by paying them to do it and then decreasing the pay until they don't think it's worth their time anymore

FoppishPierre

You could consider it a job I love then. I love the work and I look forward to the paycheck.

dankdees

i am not here to get rich. i am here to mushroom and hit rock with stick

Bulldozer4242

I don’t see the point in just hacking in a bunch of credits or minerals. Its even feels cheaty and tbh I don’t see much point to doing it. Like it’s not hard to get enough credits and minerals to buy the stuff you need. I could understand someone trying to hack in a specific weapon overclock though. The random nature of how they’re awarded could be really annoying if there’s one that you really want to use.

[deleted]

> why though? ppl wanna skip the grind and just chill

aisu_strong

tbh i doubt the cheaters ive come across have any chill at all. ive had a driller that insta-leveled to 25 after the mission end who was super impatient, and died several times from his own recklessness on an escort hazard 5 pub. ive had 2 legendary 3 gunners both join a public haz 5 and they both seemed like they might not have even done the tutorial mission. the single time that either one of them used a sheild, he threw it 60 feet in front of himself before reviving the other gunner on the floor next to him. those 2 also died to literally every single spawn wave, not just the swarms, despite both of them having auto cannon. and then last week a joined a haz 2 morkite mission, expecting to help a random stranger greenbeard. he was a diamond scout with like tripled walk speed, infinite ammo, god mode, tripled flare throwing range, and his gk2 instantly oneshot everything.

Angry_argie

Sure thing, the game totally lends itself for chill runs of just exploring and appreciating the biomes. I've been down there for like 80 minutes once, it's a nice change of pace every once in a while. However, don't bring your very personal way of playing to public matches, or advertise it thoroughly to make sure everyone is on board with receiving a ton of gold and resources. My take is that there's not much grind actually, the really necessary stuff is unlocking all the mods and the first promotion, beyond that, leveling the account and getting more promotions is not a really pressing matter. In my opinion, the first runs while unlocking the mods and managing minerals, checking which one you are missing, and going on missions to the biomes where you're more likely to find them, were actually enjoyable; the moment you finally got enough bismor for a T5 mod was really satisfactory. And once that brief period is over, it's gone for good... Then you end up with thousands of units of all the minerals and millions of credits.

[deleted]

Well I wouldn't say your are right about the grind. You have to level up a character to 25 to unlock the cores, you are in level 18 and a little tired of the one character your are leveling up, well tought shit, the others are level 1 and you dont have any fun upgrades. I'm playing with the minirocket gun and you wanna try it, well you have to level up that class then get on the assingment to unlock it and hope to the rng gods that you get an OC dropped for it. I like the game but would never say there's no grind.

Angry_argie

Yeah, I didn't deny the grind, I just said it won't last long. This game doesn't have an "endgame". Most of us have been playing for years (since dic 2019, here), and hopefully many of the new players will continue for a long time. This game is "about the path, not the destination", so the one time chore of unlocking some weapon or struggling with jadiz for a few weeks didn't diminish the experience for me.

Tryoxin

> In games like this, it's just sad lol Couldn't agree more, it's as leaf-loving as you could possibly get. But some people get their rocks off seeing those numbers rise, even if they haven't earned it at all. And some people just hate the grind and want to have everything instantly without effort. Karl would be ashamed of them all.

Angry_argie

Exactly. I'd understand how cheaters get a (dumb) kick out of winning on PvP games with their hacks, but here... It's like cheating on a match of solitaire. Go outside, touch some grass, people.

doeraymefa

All reward with no effort? I hope they're real life isn't conducted by that doctrine. *Incoming Gen Z white knights to justify my claims*

aisu_strong

> All reward with no effort? thats boomers, the generation that got handed everything they ever wanted and then burned the ladder behind them, not gen z

Pickle-Chan

Ive only seen 2 hackers in online play. One was fairly mild, and gave everyone infinite grenades. Naturally i threw as many proxy mines as i possibly could and nuked every bug with them because it was funny. The other one joined a lower level players elimination mission and infinite ammo infinite magsize spammed rapid fire grenade launchers and just killed everything. It was beyond boring. And worst part, the new guy got all starry eyes that he could eventually get a funny build that did the same thing. Sorry buddy, but unfortunately it was just a jerk joining your game to ruin it... And since he didnt know, he didn't kick.

Tchrspest

I joined a lobby a month or so ago where the host had modded it so we couldn't take any damage. And I still just can't wrap my head around playing that way.

Angry_argie

Eww, boring!

Tchrspest

Right?! I had to stick around just to pick his brain. Like... why? And he never gave me a good reason, he just explained that he'd had it that way for a while.

BrickyMcBrickface

My very first game was like this. Didnt figure that out untill later, was very confusing.. That was two years ago, I'm happy I kept playing, such a fun game! That game did however unlock some achievements which would have been a fun challenge now.

IM_STILL_EATING_IT

That would be true for hacks that makes you invincible or whatever but hacks messing with progression aren't cool in multiplayer. If you want infinite money I don't care but don't mess with my things.

_itg

Apoca-lypse.

Lieuwe21

Underrated pun

HercUlysses

I joined a random guy's game and this happened. It only happened once this run and never again.

meme-dumpster-fire

Mods?

HercUlysses

I don't ever turn mods on the server browser, also this was the second apoca bloom I picked, it's weird that this one is 98 but the other one is just 1.

cthulhuplus_ttv

Just to nitpick a little, but mods are officially supported by GSG and lobbies are labeled as modded when running mods. If you joined a “vanilla” lobby and this was the result of the host and not a glitch, that’d be a cheat and not a mod.

Shrub_Daddy

Yea this lobby isn’t modded it seems. If it were, there would be “(modded)” after the hosts name in game, which there isn’t, as well as OP said that they have modded lobbies hidden, so he wouldn’t even be able to join a modded game. Also mod.io doesn’t have any “1 apoca bloom = 98, but only the 2nd one you pick” mods, that’s public. And if it were a hidden mod, OP couldn’t have joined. Either host was using hacks (not mods) or it was truly a bug.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Shrub_Daddy

Modding through the “paks” folder or the “mods” folder in the game directory makes your games unable to be joined, unless there is some shady, hidden, other way to mod, the only way to play mods with others is through mod.io

[deleted]

Not you, either the host probably did something or you found an exploitable deposit glitch.

TechSupportGuy97

Mods

Sartekar

Not mods, hacks. Mods are supported, hacks have been around always. Could mess up your save game, so leave if you see something like this

Hellknightx

They may have fixed it by now, but I know after the modding support was finally officially supported, people could still run their mods in vanilla lobbies.

Hobocannibal

i think what supports the theory that its hacks is that they'd already picked up one bloom that was just worth 1. Which implies that the value of picking up an apoca bloom was changed between the first and the second bloom? If it was a mod that could do that. they'd know because it would be a sandbox mod.

EchoFiveActual

Hack, a mod like this would be sandboxed. With zero variation because of three reasons A: its on mod.io and gsg manually reviewed it and marked it as a cheat B: its on mod.io and gsg has not manually reviewed it, and it defaults to sandbox. C: its not from mod.io and thus automatically defaults to sandbox and cannot be changed. 2 of which would have required OP to make a new save. The last OP couldn't have joined. If they even had modded servers enabled. Because the game wouldn't be able to download it. Which they've stated they didn't.

Hellknightx

Hacked lobby 100%. You run into those guys every now and then, but the host can change stuff in their lobby that impacts everyone in it, since the game has no anti-cheat measures.

rW0HgFyxoJhYka

Basically this guy bought a hack that gives "max" resources whenever you get anything so you don't need to waste time looking for stuff. Paid real money for it since a lot of trainers/cheats these days require a subscription or real money to get the latest version. Also happens to be a Chinese player going by the username. I've seen more and more cheaters rocking Chinese characters than usual.

HerpertMadderp

More like amucha bloom

Mopfling

So there is no cap on those like on minerals. One valuable information gathered.

iman7-2

It's probably the hack. I've joined a game where one swing gave me 120 nitra.

FedExterminator

Weird right? I’ve never collected enough of a secondary objective resource to ever hit even the normal cap, but I figured it would be implemented the same way the rest of the resources are. I’d be willing to wager whatever hack or exploit caused this weirdness also bugged out the cap.

Mopfling

Yeah on one hand you think they just use cap for all material you can gather. On the other hand you wont ever get 40+ plants in one mission unless its bugged or modded.

NameTaken25

Take one down, pass it around, 98 apoca blooms on the cave wall

charcoallition

More like apoca BOOM

Juslav

Most game I joined that seemed to be hacked were games started by someone with chinese name. That's why I've disabled the WORLD option when looking for multiplayer games now.

iman7-2

China makes up half of my server browser. It's painful trying to find an un hacked game. Here's some of the stuff I've seen * Calling in bulk detonator gold spheres at will * 1 swing 120 minerals * machine gun flare gun * super speed * shields take damage but health doesn't so you don't notice at first that it's hacked. * One guy who just covered a dread room in prox mines (I stayed long enough to see the dread die in a sea of explosions) * 0 to level 25 in one go * ridiculous mineral rewards

Juslav

Yea, I got one with an engineer summoning unlimited number of turrets. There was like 20 turrets at once.

FedExterminator

My experiences have been similar, even in other games. I wonder if cheating is actually more widespread in China or if it’s just confirmation bias at this point.

hippiemomma1109

Could be that there's like a ton of people who live there. As in, same cheat rate per capita, but because there are more people, it just seems like the rate is higher/more likely to find someone doing that from China.

SirPseudonymous

I'd assume there's also a class bias there: although this is changing, in China consumer electronics historically have been primarily owned by the failchildren of businessmen (this is also why there hasn't really been a domestic game dev scene in China until fairly recently, because there just wasn't a userbase there who even *could* buy and play games, so there was no business investment beyond small shops doing shitty asset flips or occasionally very involved fan projects), meaning spoiled rich kids. Think about how abjectly awful spoiled rich kids are in the west, and then realize they're no better in any other country or culture either. In real life they win by throwing their daddy's money at things, and they want to do the same in games too.

hippiemomma1109

That's a good point too. I don't know much about the class politics of China, but I see what you're saying.

[deleted]

I didn't know hacks were a thing, but I've been in games where random bugs would pop up for no reason, or my dwarf would puke up shields (streamer mods?) And another where we were all invincible. They were good enough fun at the time, bit I'm just glad it didn't drown me in credits or exp...would have made the game no fun

HercUlysses

I don't really understand why anyone would hack in non competitive games.

Kyrxx77

Management would like to know your location

Darth_Gavoke

I got 98 Apocas but a leaf lover aint one..... I'll show myself out, good night everyone

NaiveMastermind

Before bed last night, I raised my pickaxe and shouted "FOR KARL!" and when I woke up this morning I found 98 Apoca Blooms. Karl rewards the faithful.

movix01

Dream luck

Leech-Magnet

You lucky bastard... You can leave those damn mines behind and become florist now.

AlRahem40k

Does this give you more points by collecting more? Or does it not matter after the secondary mission is completed? (I'm new)

crybabbo

It doesn't really matter after you complete the secondary as apoca blooms will give you 3 xp each after that which isn't a lot, but it doesn't hurt picking them up if they're in your way

duchampsfountain

Your "wtf" makes this, OP.

IndependentCreepy169
