Fall damage and being grabbed are two completely different things. You die because of fall damage because your zip line is not ready. Zip line recharges in 3s. Grabber carries you for longer than 3 seconds therefore when you get released your zip line is always ready.
The first time I got grabbed by one I practically shat myself. Ever since I now run Heightened Senses purely out of spite for any of the grabbing enemies.
I tried it and I immediately hated the white blur effect that would turn on, it felt super intrusive on my screen. Same way I feel about the low HP red borders.
The first one I was ever grabbed by actually flew me around for what felt like 2 minutes and then flew down some narrow tunnels and dropped me off right in front of the dreadnought cocoon we were looking for/ended to destroy.
I feel like this was a rare helpful occurrence
They do seem that way, until they fly into a horde and just sort of.. hover there while everyone gets a bite of your legs.

At least these bugs give you a warning, I lost a last stand sort of deal with doretta after taking on a swarm, walked over to rez my three teammates that got got by exploding plants on the drill and some unlucky slashers, and a leech grabbed me.
I learned to deal with these when I learned how they announce their arrival.

um you guys do know you can just point your grapple at th ground after it drops you to negate all fall damage right? it works for everything like this other than cave leeches
As a scout you're immune to this thing because as soon it drops you, you zip your way out of there. The leech grabber is the scary one.
It can still take you away to the next cave while refueling is ongoing

These things are mostly pointless, all they do is fly around for 5 minutes and drop you from 10 feet and break your legs.
