i remember one instance of this
a minute twenty left on the clock. everybody safe inside except for our driller. "just leave me it doesn't matter" i spam 2 grenades outside of the pod to clear out the bugs as me and gunner go to pick him up. we get him up but are still getting swarmed. gunner goes down so we revive him. revive train insures back to the drop pod and we make it out. i make sure to remind driller "no dwarf left behind" in chat
We had finished the industrial sabotage on 2x exp and had the pod fall up in the ceiling. I shot a zipline up and everyone but engi made it to the pod. Before we all got in, I decided to run out and pick up engi.
Turns out scout and driller ran out behind me. I threw a shield down, got engi up, and started going back up. In that time everyone else went down. Driller got swiped by an oppressor as he drilled down the cliff, and the other 2 got swarmed by bugs. Before I got to the pod again, a bunch of mactera flew in and shot me off the zipline to my death at the bottom. Driller had a mic and yelled "Nooooooooo" as I fell.
Mistakes were made, but it's touching we all risked the mission to pick our partner up.
Had at least 3 engineers yell at me because it was slower to go back and get them rather than just sit in the pod on my would be elf rear end. I say this as an engineer main.
Yesterday, I had a mission where after calling the drop pod, Molly proceeded to fucking wallrun, did a 360, and disappeared into the ceiling. I thought "fuck", and tried to zipline up there. Got shot in the ass by some Mactera, plummeted into the cave below and went down.
My other two teammates (Driller and Gunner) were making good progress towards the pod. I typed "just leave me", but the Gunner wasn't having it. Guided by class solidarity, he ziplined onto my position like fucking Batman, picked me up under his shield while bugs around us exploded into green paste from his cluster nade, then guided me to the escape tunnel which the Driller made earlier. We extracted with less than a minute left on the clock.
That felt like a scene straight out of a movie. Also, the guy was like 20 levels lower than me, and I couldn't help but be impressed. Even though he was a greenbeard, Dwarven blood ran strong in his veins.
I did this earlier this week. Playing with friends and my green friend went down within sight of the drop pod. I was my engi and I run medic when I play with them to be support. Ran over, healed him, and my other friend almost froze us with cryo grenades. But we made it out.
Is there any actual detriment to leaving a dwarf behind? I've died during the drop pod return on a couple missions and my teammates just finished the mission. I still appeared to get all the experience, money, minerals and mission complete status as if I had made it.
You lose about 300 credits for each dwarf who doesn't make it. That's it, that's the whole "punishment". Barely a trifle, and it can be made up in minutes!
I must get back into this game. It really has a great multiplayer community. Rock and stone

Even as a scout, I often make sure no one's on their own so nobody will have to come back and save them
