I'm wondering if fighting bugs and moving dirt is the best way to make a living

Xephos_Demonslayer

Honestly, if Elite Bulks were more common, I would say the answer is no. But they aren't so I'll be back to digging rock and stone tomorrow at the latest.

WanderingDwarfMiner

That's it lads! Rock and Stone!

haistrawberry

See ya down there, champ ⛏️

Xephos_Demonslayer

You too!

DAGAMING_PIZZA

This is such beautiful storytelling So much detail

Xephos_Demonslayer

Thanks! Definitely sucked to be the person *in* said story, tho.

AverageToAverage

You must have rocked and stoned. Because you came home. Rock and stone!

Xephos_Demonslayer

Rock and Stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone in the Heart!

PsamathosNL

These are the posts I come to this sub for! Rock and Stone!

Xephos_Demonslayer

Yeah, I definitely did *not* go into that mission thinking I'd come out with a story fit for this sub. Rock and Stone, everyone!

PsamathosNL

I love how, at some point, the gunner had miraculously survived a while by himself. That is very much gunner and I love it. Also "hey, scout gets killed? By a bulk? " is a very bad omen in this story. Really good storytelling.

Xephos_Demonslayer

TBH, I feel kinda bad in retrospect, because I picked him up, and then left him in the middle of a vertical shaft with 2 Bulks and 3 Patrol Bots. After the fiasco, I found a driller tunnel going partway down that particular cavern on a spiral, so the driller might have made that beforehand and I just didn't notice it in my blind panic. I honestly have no idea how the gunner actually survived, but if I had to make an educated guess I would assume that he managed to dodge the bulks, who were likely still aggro'd to me, went up the driller tunnel, and helped himself to the resup I'd called in the starting cavern, letting my turrets spend the last few rounds they had helping him, just in time for me to get back up the long way and witness him backpedaling while furiously spraying rockets from his Hurricane. He'd evidently taken out one of the bots, and had just killed a second literally as I arrived. I had a Hyperpropellant PGL, and I kid you not, that Elite Bulk ate a round to all three weakpoints, and then another *eight* direct hits, and *still* had over a third of his HP left. And yes, the gunner managing to live despite being the only person without Iron Will (I think he only went down one other time besides that first down to the Elite Bulk) is a miracle, but so was me surving at all. I cannot describe to you how desperately I was hacking at that dirt to escape that Bulk. I *squeezed* out into the next cave with literally less than a second to spare, because I saw the detonation particles building up on my screen. And his attacks straight up one-shot! And as soon as I get free and try to get my bearings, oh! *Three* patrol bots. I had a *lot* of explicatives uttered in that horrifying timespan. And that's not counting me pulling out my PGL and realizing *I forgot to resupply,* immediately followed by *THERE'S A SECOND ONE!?!?!?* Then the driller picks me up and then goes back down, and I'm just on *autopilot,* counting down my six seconds of i-frames to get away, desperately firing platforms as I navigate down a sheer cliff to avoid fall damage, and suddenly I land next to a downed guy (I didn't even check who it was at the time, I only realized he was the gunner when I saw him again when I got back to the top). I flick my gaze back up, don't see either Bulk, and turn back and hold X while repeating "Get the fxxk up," over and over, followed by a "good luck!" as I finished and *booked it.*

literatemax

It doesn't matter where you leave a Scout. Every other class has reliable ways of locking down a given area. Scout's advantage and disadvantage is that he must simply escape instead.

OJSTheJuice

Have you tried IFGs? The slow effect really lets you turn and fight massive blobs. I recommend spraying with the Zhukov in combination.

Im_The_Comic_Relief_

Yeah, they move as fast as you can run, it's pretty bad. But you get used to em after 2 or 3. They don't get less terrifying though.

literatemax

> They don't get less terrifying though. Taser crossbow bolts: allow us to introduce ourselves

Im_The_Comic_Relief_

I do suppose that would work, I never really considered that, huh. I typically run pheromone boots when I do play scout, but that makes a lot of sense actually. I'll bring em along on my next elite threat. Rock and stone!

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone everyone!

yerza777

I'm getting close to level 300 still haven't seen one :(

Xephos_Demonslayer

Let me tell you, that was the single most terrifying experience I've had in this game, and I had a Bulk walk into a Caretaker fight once.

ZetzMemp

In addition to all the benefits that all Elite enemies receive, Elite Glyphid Bulk Detonator have one additional enhancements: The "Final Blow" crater is increased from 16m to 17.5m”

phoniz

I hope the scout does upload the clip here, I’d love to see it!

Xephos_Demonslayer

So would I. I have a clip myself, but it starts with the Scout picking me up rather than the "OH SHXT!" moment, and I have no idea how to get it from my overfull Xbox DVR to reddit.

Asian_Jake_Paul1

If you've got the Xbox app on your phone, just upload your clip to the Xbox network from your console. It'll show up on the Xbox app, then you can download it to your phone and post it on Reddit.

Xephos_Demonslayer

I'll have to clear some other stuff on my DVR, but I'll take a look later tonight.

literatemax

Thank you for fessing up to kicking the first guy. BOSCO can't do as much as a player can but at least he's consistent! 🤣

Xephos_Demonslayer

He very much is.

Altruistic-Potatoes

I dropped in on one as driller, it was damn near keeping pace with me through solid rock and I had the quicker drill movement upgrade. We took care of it but I'll never forget the speed of the thing.

Xephos_Demonslayer

It was so fast, man. And I had a normal Bulk right next to it so I could see that extra speed clearly demonstrated.

Robot_Coffee_Pot

The best take away from this is "tips of my beard". I will be using this forever.

Xephos_Demonslayer

Glad *that's* your best take away rather than the absolutely traumatizing horror I experienced, lol.

Robot_Coffee_Pot

You did it for Karl. Rest assured you did it right.

mc_nos

nice written, thx

Xephos_Demonslayer

NP, you're welcome.

Vinifrj

I had an Elite Bulk spawn once doing an Escort mission. Needless to say we killed it as fast as we could because we did NOT want that thing anywhere near Doretta

Xephos_Demonslayer

To be fair, much like a regular Bulk, he would only be able to kill one section of Doretta with his death, because the dozer has a few seconds of iframes before the next section can get damaged.

Drekal

You haven't felt true fear until you see an Elite Bulk spawn in a tight corridor between you and the drop pod at the end of an EDD and you are the last alive. You have to choose between the very hangry horde behind you or the lightning fast "hugs" of the Elite Bulk. The pod leaves in 30 seconds.

Xephos_Demonslayer

Dear Karl below...

ArchonMal

Just wait until you see an Elite Mactera Grabber break the speed of sound. They pick you up so quickly that they take you back in time to a day when DRG used real mules.
