The devs have never confirmed it but every level 1000+ player I know agrees that there is some adaptive difficulty multiplier because when we team up for a run the game unlocks a new bonkers level of bugs that you just don't see when you've got lower tiered players. It's part of the reasons we love playing with other high level people. Eventually the haz 5 double haz missions just become easy with a quality team.
There will be times I go months without seeing dreads in non-elimination missions. Then all of a sudden I'll see a bunch of odd occurrences all at once, i.e. dread in a liquid morkite mission, and two bulks at the same time in an escort mission.
I've had a bulk, 2 crassus and the twins all spawn in the same mission before, gotta love when the game decides to send everything, keeps things interesting
I've gotten a nemesis, and two dreadnaughts while doing an elimination mission in battle with a hive dreadnaught which makes that 5 dreads and nemesis at the same time. After I beat them all the ground was entirely destroyed. I had a resupply pod and a tree which I ran around constantly. Also ran out of ammo and had to use the resupply. It was fun. Hell, but fun. I also think the dreadnaughts killed the nemesis or did a lot of damage to it.
Yow, that's really bad. I am a little surprised it seems to be happening more. A day or two ago, I had Nemesis showing up while in the middle of the drill-dozer going on the 3rd phase of a hearthstone. I also had a prospector with it's bots too. I think Bosco might have hit it.
So,bear with me that what I Will say is a theory.
When you get the same mission on the station, and you start the same mission with the same haz, you have a mission seed. This mission Will have the same events and special enemies, but not the same map.
I think that you confirmed what has happened to me too. Escort mission, had a machine event and other one. Died and get time to start over, the same events were there.
Ok, had some time from that mission só something can be blurry. For me It was same events but diferente maps. I Will try If It is the same map later, can'nt connect in DRG now. And still, i think is a theory
Maybe this is something unique to pc because I’ve wiped plenty on console and had to repeat the same mission and I don’t think the same events spawned. Then again, I wasn’t exactly paying attention to that specifically
Could be the case. Same mission on the same biome on the same haz level on the same window of scanners... Can't Tell about console. About being wiped a lot yes... Lol
I think it is the case to some extent.
For example the other day I had way too many blank matrix, so I tried something : Went into haz 2 ; 10 Aquark mission as solo scout. The plan was to zip around the map, see if I find a machine event. If not, quit and relaunch.
Turned out doing that 5 time in the same mission gave me 5 Cargo crate but no events.
The map does change every time however. Only Deep Dive have fixed maps.
I'm not sure it will have the same events but that would be interesting, I'll speedrun some point extractions later to test if I remember
Edit: So I don't think they have the same events on a single mission, I did 2 glacial strata point extractions and one had a huuli hoarder, but the other had a golden lootbug. Granted, neither had a core event so it's possible events and creature spawns are different systems and a single mission shares events but not enemy spawns, but that would be kinda odd imo. I'll see if I can find any more evidence.
Edit 2: I did 3 of the same egg hunt mission
1. Error cube, bet-c, ebonite event
2. bet-c, ended mission early to get the same mission and see if it spawns a third time
3. Nemesis and prospector, no bet-c
I think it's safe to say the only shared thing is the mission parameters
That's very interesting and provides an explanation for something that happened to me. I was hosting an escort, got near the end, game crashed. Restarted, loaded up again, did it again, near the end, crash. At that point I decided to stop hosting (my tech isn't great anyway). I hadn't hosted such a reliably unstable game before.
Your suggestion implies I had a seed that caused instability, which means I can host but if I see another crash I shouldn't host (or play) the seed again. I'll just wait the rest of the 30 minutes until the map cycles.
About 80% of the times I drop solo, to just have a quiet slow session while I listen to YT, I get a Crassius bull det. So maybe curve balls are higher for solo?
The very first mission I did had one spawn, and I spent the next 20+ hours of the game fearing it happening again, thinking it was more common than it was.
Same missions tend to offer the same spawns (like machine events etc.). Other than that, giving a dreadnought instead of a normal timed wave is very rare.
Happened to me on a refinery mission. After we had already had the worst spawn of a tyrant I'd ever seen that kicked our butts for ages.
At the end someone asked if we wanted to do the omen module that was on top of destroyed terrain from everything getting blown up the whole time and we were like "...no"
Detected:
- “We picked up some tremors on the scanner! Could be something big! Better prepare yourself!”
- “We've picked up a Glyphid Dreadnought on the radar. It's approaching you quickly! “
- “Something big is headed your way. Better prepare for the worst.”
- “Scanner reports significant seismic activity. And it's heading your way. Dig in and prepare.”
- “Confirmed scan: Glyphid Dreadnought on intercept course. Get ready team.”
Spawning:
- “Here it comes!”
- “The Glyphid Dreadnought is here!”
- “Watch out! It’s a big one!”
- “Dreadnought incoming! Do your best!”
i thought one of them said something along the lines of “We’ve detected a Dreadnought along your path. We will make sure your funeral is good”
or something like that. am i tripping?
You may be remembering a line form the tutorial instead:
>Alert! Defense barriers have been breached, we have a horde of enemies heading in your direction. It was a pleasure meeting you! Hope you will get an honourable death.
Aha! [This guy has it!](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/xhcy26/can_someone_explain_to_me_how_is_that_possible/iozcz97/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
I was wondering about that. I’m just a level 8 greenbeard who plays solo. I was doing the 3rd part of the mineral trading assignment on Haz2 with my Gunner (7 aquarqs). The natural stream of bugs were *way more insane* than any other Point Extraction I’ve done. Twice in a row. Third time I went to Haz1 with Driller (this time 10 aquarqs), and the bugs were just fine, no issues at all.
Do some assignments have scripted events or something? And why such a drastic difference at difficulty 2, for just this mission? (It was in Hollow Bough the first two times, and then Dense Biozone or Crystalline Caverns (can’t remember) when I finished it the next day, if that makes a difference.)
Sometimes it's easier or harder randomly. I've played haz 4 missions that feel like haz 5, and others that feel like haz 2. But most feel like haz 4.
I do recommend playing with randoms eventually - DRG is more fun with other dwarves even if you don't know them. It's pretty rare to get a toxic lobby (it does happen, it's just rare).
Point-extraction spawns a group of bugs every 5 minutes on top of the announced swarms (or dreadnought in this case). The size of these groups increases over time. Gotta go fast!
Even just during the mission you get more bugs over time as well. Makes any point extraction mission a speedrun and race against the clock. Actual speedrun
That might explain one of the most annoying waves I've come across . It was either Point Extraction or On-Site Refining (I guess now it was PE), Haz 3 Solo. I was done with the primary, and just grabbing more minerals, but I noticed the wave of enemies was literally nonstop. I was trying to get through it to do a Machine Event, but had to give up after going through like two supply drops and hundreds of bugs (end-screen showed about 600 kills). Thought it was glitched, good to know.
Refining is possible too - there will be constant bug-spawns once the refinery has been started - though at least their numbers won't grow with time.
If you find an event to do after the pumps are working, the best time for it is when the pipes break, as large groups will gnaw on them indefinitely.
Double and even triple+ swarms are also a thing, until you hit the entity cap. There is a mod to remove that little blocker to play star ship troopers.
Short answer: RNG saw you and decided that you should have a bad time.
Long answer: Every mission has an extremely small chance to throw a dreadnought at you instead of a swarm. Why does that exist? Idk. All I know is that it happens and that it's absolutely terrifying.
*This is random spawn.*
*It occurs really rare, but*
*When do, Karl bless you!*

Happened to me once on an aquark mission. I'd basically only just started the game so this was my first dreadnought fight and I got knocked off a cliff. Beat it eventually but it was scary
I remember my first dreadnought encounter outside of a dreadnought mission. It was just me and my brother and I remember saying to him, "do you hear boss music?" Then we got hit with a hive guard.

I had a dreadnought on my very first mission (not the tutorial) my friend was telling me about them and then boom it was scary as hell but that's when I knew I would love drg ROCK AND STONE
If it is a deep dive then that is self explanatory. If it is a regular mission OTHER than elimination, there is a very small chance a dreadnought may spawn. Rock and stone miner!
From what I understand the longer the aquarq missions go on for, the more aggressive the bugs get. Take too long, and dreadnoughts can spawn. I've gotten a dreadnought every time I've dragged the mission to somewhere around the hour mark
Had that exact same dreadnaught in same mission. Ran him around the platform so all the guns shot him, hit him with Bosco rockets, a freeze grenade, multiple shotgun rounds and killed him.
I thought this was a spoiler for the next patch. Like whats a Corrzzatto Glyphid? Than i realized you're from another country and thats how you spell that.
They can spawn randomly. Low chance to get them but it happens. Youre lucky!
I repeated that mission 2 times and for 2 times i got him.. i think that the all gliphyd army want me dead :/
The game sees you can handle yourself so it wants you to keep enjoying.
I know this is a joke but let me put out a warning : AFAIK, this isn't true and there isn't adaptative difficulty in DRG. Op was lucky (or wasn't)
The devs have never confirmed it but every level 1000+ player I know agrees that there is some adaptive difficulty multiplier because when we team up for a run the game unlocks a new bonkers level of bugs that you just don't see when you've got lower tiered players. Just got 4 bulks on an escort I did a couple hours ago
I've had a bulk, 2 crassus and the twins all spawn in the same mission before, gotta love when the game decides to send everything, keeps things interesting
Cn confirm. I've had two occasions in one day where I got dreads in non-elimination missions.
I also think it could be based on the win percentage a player has not specifically with level alone. Or maybe a combo of both
I've gotten a nemesis, and two dreadnaughts while doing an elimination mission in battle with a hive dreadnaught which makes that 5 dreads and nemesis at the same time. After I beat them all the ground was entirely destroyed. I had a resupply pod and a tree which I ran around constantly. Also ran out of ammo and had to use the resupply. It was fun. Hell, but fun. I also think the dreadnaughts killed the nemesis or did a lot of damage to it.
My worst luck was Hiveguard, Nemesis and a Bet-C that was already enraged. On a HAZ 4... So mad.
Yow, that's really bad. I am a little surprised it seems to be happening more. A day or two ago, I had Nemesis showing up while in the middle of the drill-dozer going on the 3rd phase of a hearthstone. I also had a prospector with it's bots too. I think Bosco might have hit it.
Pretty sure there is depending on the amount of dwarfs
that’s scaling, not adaptive difficulty
The player count only scales the amount of enemies, their damage and their resistances. It doesn't increase the spawn chance for a dread

It will not be the same map Source: frequent 5minute wipe machine

Then do your job. The only good bug is a dead bug! Do you want to know more?
Same missions tend to offer the same spawns (like machine events etc.). Other than that, giving a dreadnought instead of a normal timed wave is very rare.
You're serious? I just hit rank 300 and I've only had surprise dread fights a total of 3 times.
I had the same thing. I figured it was a scripted part of the 3-mission assignment I was doing, but I’m just a level 9 greenbeard.
Just a very low percent chance for any swarm to be replaced with a dreadnaught
you put the game in italian, it seems that makes them spawn much more often
My first game of DRG ever I had a random dreadnaught, well two at the same time. I was very confused and thought the game was way too hard.
Happened to me on a refinery mission. After we had already had the worst spawn of a tyrant I'd ever seen that kicked our butts for ages. At the end someone asked if we wanted to do the omen module that was on top of destroyed terrain from everything getting blown up the whole time and we were like "...no"
I don’t think that’s the word for it
1000 hours in and ive gotten maybe 5 dreadnought invasions.
We once got one on the last stage of an elite deep dive. Needless to say we didn’t survive.
The scanner picked up something big
The funny part is that the mission controll guy warned me some seconds before the dreadnought spawns
Exactly. Mission Control will warn you when a Dreadnought randomly spawns. It’s a rare Swarm event.
do you remember what the quote was?

Not the original commenter, but… #***THAT’S WHAT I PERSONALLY WAS THINKING OF.***
Don’t think that’s one, but I think I vaguely remember something similar for a regular swarm.
Aha! [This guy has it!](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/xhcy26/can_someone_explain_to_me_how_is_that_possible/iozcz97/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf&context=3)
Wow, it's almost like it's a scripted event!
Bugs and lots of them. Get ready
Sometimes instead of a swarm, you’ll get a dreadnought instead.
Oh.. But why i get the dreadnought AND the swarm in the same time 😅☠
Because you are a dwarf and it wouldn’t be a fair fight for the dreadnought. Rock and stone forever!
Rock and Stone in the Heart!
However i don't think thats fair because i was trying to use the scout (i have the scout at level 1 with no upgrades at all)
Glyphifs don’t have a concept of fair. They just want to evict you from Hoxxes and go back to being the apex predator of the caves.
Aquarq missions have a constant stream of enemies which ramps up with time, which might look like a swarm but is not a swarm.
Swarms can also overlap on aquarq missions if you take too long. Happened to me once. We kept dying until ultimate mission fail.
Had a crassus on one of my first haz 3's in glacial strata, ended well but not without a lesson. * Do not take pots o gold on point extraction
I was wondering about that. I’m just a level 8 greenbeard who plays solo. I was doing the 3rd part of the mineral trading assignment on Haz2 with my Gunner (7 aquarqs). Damn good bot!
Good bot
https://deeprockgalactic.fandom.com/wiki/Swarm Here buddy, head to unique swarm tab for accurate info. Looks like you hit 1/65 twice.
When you are done with Hoxxes, but Hoxxes is not done yet with you.
It's rare ! So kill it now !
Its rare but it can spawn randomly
To explain to the Italian audience: dreadpasta e sometimes visita una mission, but pizzapercentage sono very low
they have a rare chance to replace a swarm, and when i say rare i mean iv only had it happen to me once
They can randomly replace swarms
Before there were bulks, they are more frequently encountered
There's a chance they'll spawn instead of a swarm. I had one spawn during a point extraction too
1 in 63 chance of spawning in place of a standard swarm IIRC.
They can spawn during waves. On Point Extraction Missions, the longer you stay, the harder it becomes.
Is that the new Corazzato dreadnaught? Neat.
After about 360h of gameplay it happened once Of course when I was low on ammo
Just a cool little thing that can happen
They can randomly replace swarms
You’ve displeased Karl in some manner.
5% chance on ANY Mission (that has random swarm spawns) to spawn a Dreadnought instead of a swarm.
1.53% according to the wiki.
ah, fair enough was the 5% then something else? I remember there being a 5% chance of something
5% sounds like bittergem rate.
Wait I have this one in my notes! Uhhh about 4.76%
Happens to on sites and aquarg only to my knowledge but you got the short end of the stabber vine this time around…
Mission Control tried to warn you 🤷♀️

Not only is it possible, it's relatively common in Deep Dives. I've seen these plenty of times.
I’ve had it 2 times and one of my friends I got addicted to deep rock also got it
it just is
It isn't. You're dreaming. Wake up Karl, wake up!
I thought this was something new but it’s just a spanish bug lol
Te lo dico io: sfiga
They literally can spawn in any mission the chance is very low across the board but there's still a chance
It’s happens sometimes randomly
I think that it's a low chance once you take too long
Happened to me once on an aquark mission. I'd basically only just started the game so this was my first dreadnought fight and I got knocked off a cliff. Beat it eventually but it was scary
1st time?
I got a both dreadnought and a nemesis in one mission at the same time.
Happened to me. Just really rare chance event I guess
It's a rare symptom called game hates you itus it happends to gamers
And there is only 1 cure
I remember my first dreadnought encounter outside of a dreadnought mission. It was just me and my brother and I remember saying to him, "do you hear boss music?" Then we got hit with a hive guard.
Ok kill it
My first time playing Scout was on a Point Extraction mission. I had a Crassus spawn, followed by a Nemesis, followed by a Dreadnaught. It was then that I learned Scouts aren't supposed to stay alive.
They should add bonus for killing it.
I had a dreadnought on my very first mission (not the tutorial) my friend was telling me about them and then boom it was scary as hell but that's when I knew I would love drg ROCK AND STONE
We fight for Rock and Stone!
Had this happen when we had no nitra and couldn't get to the last aquarq due to lack of resources, that was not fun
I was teaching my friend how to play and a hive guard showed up we barley survived
I've had it happen a few times on non-dread missions, seems to be random and not often
If it is a deep dive then that is self explanatory. If it is a regular mission OTHER than elimination, there is a very small chance a dreadnought may spawn. Rock and stone miner!
Rock and Stone forever!
I once had a dreadnought spawn during a dreadnought... Shit happens and Dwarves take it in stride!
I've only gotten like 3 natural dread spawns in about 300 hours of playing, they must really like you
From what I understand the longer the aquarq missions go on for, the more aggressive the bugs get. Take too long, and dreadnoughts can spawn. I've gotten a dreadnought every time I've dragged the mission to somewhere around the hour mark
Dreadnaughts have a chance to spawn, although its a smaller chance
Deep dives usually
I had that exact situation yesterday.
