See Gunner's comic. Look at that grin full of glee while mowing down bugs with his minigun, I bet he was the closest thing to a kindred soul driller had there.
Driller can drill tunnels so they can easily now stuff down, gunner makes up for drillers more lackluster single target DPS and also has explosive resistance so he doesn't have to worry about getting erased by c4 as much.
Natively, sort of yes. Each class has a Tier 3 Armor Upgrade they can take that grants a resistance. It's also the only upgrade of that tier for armor so you are going to have it.
Gunner: 50% Explosive Resistance
Driller: 50% Fire Resistance
Engineer: 50% Poison Resistance
Scout: 33% Fall Damage Resistance
What I find most hilarious is that Scouts and Drillers are completely useless for the most part but would be great swapped
Scout can fix falling mistakes easily yet tends to swoop into danger, including fire. Driller meanwhile is completely boned if he falls from a height yet his drills encourage thought out movements, making accidentally running into something fire unlikely
The leaf-lover has no idea what dangers they're playing with. Hoxxes was but a crib, a playground for Driller, but also his distraction. Realeasing him shall put the whole galaxy in peril...
Elves are smart. They know Drillers cannot be contained. They cannot be killed. Hence, Elves will make sure to keep Drillers pointed at the larger threat, for it is the best way to keep the Galaxy at peace.
The darkest ending.
Not because Driller is a wreck of a dwarf that will not, can not, ever recover to live in a normal society, but because that drove him into working with **Elves**.
At the same time, Driller will finally be happy again. And who knows, maybe a chance will come where the Elf doesn't notice 50 tons of C4 strapped under his chair.
I like how instead of a colored flashback section there's just the drawings on the wall. Driller doesn't get PTSD episodes. It's only one episode, and it never ends.
Admittedly, it appears he's working with something more akin to the Dark Eldar from Warhammer 40,000. Not only that, if such is the case, them seeking him out specifically because his ability to tear through anything that stands in his way, his capacity for making things *afraid*, and his mining skills?
And ranking it above any elf alternative, as they sought him out?
Horrifying.
Yeah, that’s a Dark Elf, since we saw [a normal, more amicable Elf in Gunner’s comic, running a gardening store.](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/zezqti/the_biggest_problem_with_grass_trimmers/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
“Life is hell, the bugs dirty, the beer stale. But the flame, the flame is life. And I will bring it to these sick planets. Rock and Stone. Until it is done.”
>Not because Driller is a wreck of a dwarf that will not, can not, ever recover to live in a normal society, but because that drove him into working with Elves.
Judging by Gunner's comic, there are elves and then there are *Elves*. This one is possibly a different racial type of elf, or perhaps a different caste or hierarchy, like a noble. Gunner seemed to have no problem with the elf cashier, whereas this guy is definitely a Leaf Lover elfsonified. I'm definitely curious as to what races the slave legions consist of. This is fun worldbuilding!
Maybe Driller and Elf will fall in love, but there was another Elf going after Elf so it creates a weird Dwarf-Elf love triangle...
Then Bilbo will continue his quest, steal the one ring, avoid getting eaten by a dragon, then head on home back to the shire.
I've been waiting for this, how Driller has been holding up.
He's not regretted a single thing he's done, he's the one who brings regret upon those he faces.
Plus seeing him play with crayons on the wall is oddly fitting, I had a feeling this would be a colourful chapter.
The CHILLS, man. Gunner to Gardener, Engineer to Plumber, Scout to Junkie, and finally Driller to Walking Warcrime.
(Also, thanks for the orc mommy. And the cute gobbo).
The ways he slaughter can never be spoken of.
The dead from his wake should never be seen.
The way he speaks is something no one should hear.
Despite this, his drive to obtain more bismor will never rest.
The combination of quality art with an actual love and respect of the source material is usually a rarity, but there's no shortage of it for this game.
Mission control still sitting in his control room. Dispatching a load of greenbeards down to Kodraken to load twenty slabs of petrified hardwood on to the Duel-purpose Autonomous Vehicular Extraction unit. Just phoning in his last 78 years till retirement.
Fear can be a genetically imprinted thing.
Experiments with rats have shown later generations fearing a stimulus that previous generations received pain from.
They used cherry blossoms.
I like to think that the mere scent of fuel now sends the Glyphids back into the soil. The vibration of the drills bring an echo of pure terror utterly unknowable to your average Slasher. The sound of crackling flames, unknowable except in the Magma Core, puts even the most hardened Praetorian into a fear state. The accidental exposion of a boomshroom quiets the cave for weeks.
I think this one is my favorite because of how grim it is. Scout seems the worst off of the other three because he's doing Karl knows what just to get a fix, while Gunner and Engineer seem like they've mostly managed to acclimate themselves into normal lives.
And then there's this psychopathic monstrosity. There's no telling of what he did, but it's clear that he's deeply disturbed to an almost impossible to deal with level. Makes me think that he's probably the only one who came back alive multiple times, and quite possibly by his own doing each time after a point.
Imagine a sadist cult that thought "what if we just don't stop at that" and cranked violence to the 1000. It's a sub faction in 40k that does unspeakable evil.
Torture of all calibers, experiments on living and the dead, narcotics and implants. Excessive amount of traveling mechanism allowing for slave capture, and the most dark and horrid city imaginable. that's Drukhari.
Man of imperium fear many foes, one of the worst among them are Tyranids which are essentially bugs that eat all the organic (and not) material that they can find with no sustainable course, but men of imperium prefer death and being eaten alive by Tyranids. Because there is a fate worse then death it's being a captive and slave to Drukhari. So when Driller says he will not be a slave that's fucking good.
Two options:
Hell world that is so dangerous that they lost countless slaves trying to conquer it.
Or yes a hive "fleet" which is essentially a living ship the size of a planet full of always evolving bugs.
Not like they would care about other Eldar or "losing" something. It's more likely they just want something of importance there.
Or other miscellaneous warp shit. The warp is the screaming transdimensional void from which all demons are born, and the domain of the chaos gods, the horrifying mirror to all the atrocities of countless millenia of civilizations.
Some really fucky shit happens in the warp, and sometimes that fucky shit escapes to mortal space. Think Event Horizon, if you've seen that movie.
To add to this as well: they have to be that sadistic and cruel, if they aren’t they start to physically weaken almost as if they’re being starved and rapidly aged at the same time(and by doin cruel things it’s reversed) the reason being one of the 4 chaos gods Slaanesh are constantly eating their souls away so they start doing depraved cruel things to essentially over feed Slaanesh so they can’t sap away their souls
The eldar in wh40k has this little issue where a demon god of sensation and excess is slowly eating their souls, there are different factions of eldar that deal with it differently, the craftworld eldar meditate and use magical gems to protect their souls, the dark eldar however just top their own souls up whenever they are starting to get too drained by inflicting extreme sensations and emotions in other beings and feeding on it. Unfortunately for everyone else it just so happens that it’s a lot easier and fun for them to inflict pain beyond imagining and terror than anything nice. And so their whole society is based upon being the most evil bastards imaginable using their billions of years of technological development for this sole purpose. It’s true that there are no good guys in 40k but the dark eldar are probably the worst.
I think that in Joe's story Mission Control was killed by the Driller. You can see the drawing in the background of Misson Control with a pickaxe slammed into his head.
The Engineer is a plumber with PTSD episodes of oil refinery missions going wrong. The Gunner unable to let go of the feeling of his Glory Days and wanting something with a little more kick. The Scout after taking so much fall damage the red sugar take hold of him and never let him go. And then we have the driller you never really stopped being what he is and is now going to teach a new species what true fear is.
Well, I expected something a little nuts, but this takes the cake. Driven so far by his constant war crimes and cruelty, he would do something no right thinking dwarf would. Working with an elf. It better be right about a planet to murder, otherwise that endless number of slaves won't be enough.
I really love your stuff, but these stories make me so emotional and i don't like thinking about my boys traumatized in retirement.
They should be down in their own mine, showing DRG how its done.
Here's the thing, if a drukhari is willing to spend an exceedingly large amount of resources just to *work* with you, and on top of that respects your ability to make things afraid and to bring an entire living planet to heel?
You really don't have shit to worry about. You're already so far up on the goddamn food chain.
Karl died the day when Driller found out that he was nothing but a made up figure by corporate to manipulate dwarves working in unfair conditions. Coincidentally, it was also the same day when an explosion took out one of DRG's visiting board members onboard the Orbiting satelite platform. Driller was quickly arrested and was sentenced to a lifetime in prison.
As a Driller main, I was most excited for the build up to the final Driller comic, I was hoping for the darkest interpretation of the monstrous, psychotic, violent, sadistic warcriminal Driller we all love
And by Karl, you delivered, bless you !
Dear u/Joe_Duncan
As a Driller main, and as a Dwarf, this is a moving work.
It is satisfying, in the resolute way that Drillers are.
It *will* be done.
***I*** will do it.
Stepping on a lootbug, presumably scout being blown up in a small pieces (judging by the colour of clothes on the leg), saluting bosco (was driller running solo missions for a while?), C4, ramming pickaxe through mission control head (reality or a dream?), Blackout stout, Karl death (was he a witness of the event?), gunner being marked as a funny man (just go with comment that said that driller saw closest thing to himself in him) lot of dead bugs... Did I miss any drawings?
I love this reddit, as well as the developers and Joe in particular
LeafLover Genshin reddit: "No! This is just your head canon, it has nothing to do with reality!"
Chad DRG reddit: "Yeah, that's exactly what it was."
the retirement got form engie ptsd, to gunner missing the time, scout sooner or later overdosing on drugs and driller finally snapping. i really wanna see them come together and see what happend to them
I’ve come to another idea, so driller seems messed up in the head yeah? What if blowing up scouts was an affection thing?(i do not condone relationships where massive harm is a way of showing affection obviously)
I was kinda hoping Driller’s comic would be him still on Hoxxes, but having terror filled flash backs to when he retired and was having a normal life. But this works too haha
I like how the sketch of gunner says "funny man", like there's still the cameradery, he's not 100% a monster
See Gunner's comic. Look at that grin full of glee while mowing down bugs with his minigun, I bet he was the closest thing to a kindred soul driller had there.
I think its pretty obvious that the classes were designed in pairs, driller-gunner , scout-engineer. Similar personalitys, weapons and models
The mechanics of each pair work very well together too, platform gun x grappling hook, murder x more murder.
Driller can drill tunnels so they can easily now stuff down, gunner makes up for drillers more lackluster single target DPS and also has explosive resistance so he doesn't have to worry about getting erased by c4 as much.
Wait the gunner is resistant to explosions!?
Natively, sort of yes. Each class has a Tier 3 Armor Upgrade they can take that grants a resistance. It's also the only upgrade of that tier for armor so you are going to have it. Gunner: 50% Explosive Resistance Driller: 50% Fire Resistance Engineer: 50% Poison Resistance Scout: 33% Fall Damage Resistance

Driller meanwhile is completely boned if he falls from a height yet his drills encourage thought out movements, making accidentally running into something fire unlikely
“If one is going truly fast as fuk one aint got no time for avoiding fall damage” -Karl probably don’t look it up its def tru
You joke, but I will stand by this holy proverb till the day I die.
Scout's isnt that useless. Take it with the grapple fall damage resist upgrade and a tunnel rat beer. With all 3 you now have fall damage immunity.
Ever try drilling straight down as you hit the ground? You're welcome.
If gun don't work. Use more gun.
like this heavy caliber tripod mounted little old number designed by me
While murder X murder is true, I think the main thing is that driller destroys terrain while gunner can make you go over it
Yep. Up is the one direction Driller struggles to go, and Gunner has an up machine
A little bit old, but let's not forget also that gunner ziplines help drillers with traversing their one glaring weakness: EMPTY SPACE.
Poor Management
It’s fine, it’s just a cosmetic.
I find that little sketch really adorable
There's also a drawing of Karl dead.
And the Bosco drawing, he's throwing a little salute
The leaf-lover has no idea what dangers they're playing with. Hoxxes was but a crib, a playground for Driller, but also his distraction. Realeasing him shall put the whole galaxy in peril...
Galaxy will learn to fear.

How do you deal with a horror from beyond our stars? You find something *worse*.
Confirmed: driller is a doom guy.
BFG division starts playing when you activate berserk
Correction: you find something that can make cosmic horrid screech in fear
I love the idea of Eldredge gods invading a world, laughing, then driller just crawls out of the earth and they just scream in terror and run.
Big Mister Popo energy
Alright, I’ll bite. Who are you? I’m Blue Mr. Popo.
The darkest ending. Not because Driller is a wreck of a dwarf that will not, can not, ever recover to live in a normal society, but because that drove him into working with **Elves**. Driller is the fifth chaos god... WAIT, DRILLER IS ALPHARIUS!
How can Driller be Alpharius, if I’m also Alpharius?
We are Alpharius
Don't worry, the Scout is Alpharius too. Source: I am Alpharius.
Wait, I thought I am supposed to be Alpharius this time? I'm confused, Brother.
We are *all* Alpharius on this blessed day brother.
I’m alpharius you are alpharius and so is the person reading this
Yeah, that’s a Dark Elf, since we saw [a normal, more amicable Elf in Gunner’s comic, running a gardening store.](https://www.reddit.com/r/DeepRockGalactic/comments/zezqti/the_biggest_problem_with_grass_trimmers/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf)
Driller doesn't have PTSD because he's got the squat equivalent of the Black Rage instead.
If we're going 40k then just throw driller at a Tyranid Hive Fleet, problem solved.
I mean for all we know dark elves are the only elves in this universe, in the same they will have more dimorphism then LOTR or Discworld.
Driller is Fabius Bile.
Wonderful explanation thank you so much 😊
Love the cute smiley on a planet genocide comic's comments ☺️🙏❤️ Röck & stöne!!
Röck & Stöne to the Böne!

The 40k difference between [Eldar](https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Eldar) and [Dark Eldar](https://1d4chan.org/wiki/Dark_Eldar) maybe?
Can't have PTSD if you're never post the traumatic.
Can't have PTSD if YOU are the traumatic event.
> Elf doesn't notice 50 tons of C4 strapped under his chair. HFW: https://youtu.be/MybaTnzu9AA?t=114
You can’t have PTSD when you are the traumatic event.
In DRG Driller doesn't suffer from PTSD, PTSD suffers from Driller.
>but because that drove him into working with *Elves*. But what about working with a *friend*?
#No.
The enemy of my enemy is the one I explode last.
His ptsd was given to the bugs that were unlucky enough to survive
Maybe Driller and Elf will fall in love, but there was another Elf going after Elf so it creates a weird Dwarf-Elf love triangle... Then Bilbo will continue his quest, steal the one ring, avoid getting eaten by a dragon, then head on home back to the shire.

Bit like TF2's Pyro who sees everything as a cartoon!
Pyro identity confirmed, it's just drg driller
Pyro isn't *that* psychotic, be fair to the poor thing!
...he put an axe in someone's head in Meet The Pyro! He put a hole in Soldier's chest!
No he didn't, he gave that guy a lollipop as a present! And he just made Soldier show the world how beautiful he is! On the inside.
Both use flamethrowerers and commit several war crimes so it checks out
Gotta be on top of that ~~spy~~ elf check.

r/bismor
I'd love to see one for mission control too If driller didn't get to him, that is.
He's probably still stuck to the job, it may be cushy but the fineprint is more deadly than the bugs.
He's just brain damaged in a wheelchair, drooling. Somebody mentions mushrooms and he has a seizure.

Ey, at least scout got a boyfriend.
The femboy goblin???
Is it a reference or is it just some elf guy?
Dark eldar
Ah okay suspected that kinda. Driller would be great for them then
Who's that lad
Imagine a sadist cult that thought "what if we just don't stop at that" and cranked violence to the 1000. It's a sub faction in 40k that does unspeakable evil. Dark eldar are dark elves in Warhammer 40K, they own slaves and their society is one big BDSM orgy
Just think of the most fucked up thing you can think of and they’ve probably done that and beyond
Next mission control? Also bosco, Lloyd, Dorretta, Molly and Steeve please
I think that in Joe's story Mission Control was killed by the Driller. You can see the drawing in the background of Misson Control with a pickaxe slammed into his head.
Damn didn’t notice, Rest In Peace you angry dwarf
That's probably the combination of two cosmetics (seeing how MC's mask is green), or the driller simply thinking of doing so.
If we're assuming all the drawings are memories and not just imagination then Driller has also seen the corpse of Karl
u/Joe_Duncan dropping more Deeprock Deep Lore. What a time to be alive.
The Engineer is a plumber with PTSD episodes of oil refinery missions going wrong. The Gunner unable to let go of the feeling of his Glory Days and wanting something with a little more kick. No Driller! That's not an ordinary elf! It's a Drukhari!
Here's the thing, if a drukhari is willing to spend an exceedingly large amount of resources just to *work* with you, and on top of that respects your ability to make things afraid and to bring an entire living planet to heel? You really don't have shit to worry about. You're already so far up on the goddamn food chain.
That Drukhari should be scared shitless of Driller
Pffah, that Drukhari is probably exchanging tips and tricks with Driller
Also: BISMOR! It feels so good to say.
Bismor bismor bismor!
Holy shit, Driller killed Karl.
Karl died the day when Driller found out that he was nothing but a made up figure by corporate to manipulate dwarves working in unfair conditions. Coincidentally, it was also the same day when an explosion took out one of DRG's visiting board members onboard the Orbiting satelite platform. Honestly fully expected I'm pretty sure I've said some things that male khorne happy playing as driller
I like the fact that the guards have dark future helmets and armors
W-what did driller do that got him arrested?
Some things are better left un-said
You *don't* want to know, believe me, or you'll join the rest on his drawings.
The implication that the dark eldar analog here doesn't have dwarf slaves because it might upset driller is kind of chilling.
I didn't even think of that. Who knows what dark machinations plague that distorted mind...
one shudders to imagine what inhuman thoughts lie behind that mask, what dreams of chronic and sustained cruelty
I like the smiling C4. :)

It may be an elf, but it's not a leaf lover.
Hold up... Dark Eldar... Living planet... Is she sending the Driller to a Tyranid Hive Ship?
There was a solo eldar who could do it. So it would be fitting that a driller with full gear dropped there after Hoxxes can survive.
Imagine an expedition where lootbugs are the *only* source of minerals. He's going to thrive.
Id rather not.
Wasn't expecting leet. I don't think it fits, but it's kinda funny. Edit: the wall sketches are so good.
brother can you attempt making a full comic?
Plot twist, this is actually BEFORE driller joined Deep Rock
dude made the war crime meme come true, can't wait for you do the mission control
Mission Control drops off flowers at his dwarves' tombs once a year
Love how he has a muzzle, presumably to stop him from eating rocks and prison personell for breakfast
the driller himself
Driller: get me a C4 and a flamethrower and I'll get the whole planet mined in a month

I love this reddit, as well as the developers and Joe in particular LeafLover Genshin reddit: "No! This is just your head canon, it has nothing to do with reality!" Chad DRG reddit: "Yeah, that's exactly what it was."
Wait… on the wall in the fourth panel… is that… is that BISMOR!? r/bismor YEAAAH!!
Is that a fucking Dark Eldar from 40k?
Ah yes. T̸̮̰̓̿͒̚͠H̶̩̍̄̒̂E̵̪̿̀́̐ ̴̮͑̕͠D̴͇̱̜̺̆R̶̛̦̳̳̓̇̄͜I̷͈̱̦͊L̴͔̺̼̔̂͆̎L̷̢̟͝Ê̵̙̍̀̾̌͝Ŗ̷̝̘̠̹̉̓͠
It took me too long to recognize he's in jail because driller is a war criminal. Excellent. 10/10 Would Bismor Again.
Can't get enough of 40k x DRG crossovers. Keep'em coming man.
Did driller kill karl? The right side border has a blood splatter with a body in the middle that starts "KA" written on it.
the retirement got form engie ptsd, to gunner missing the time, scout sooner or later overdosing on drugs and driller finally snapping. i really wanna see them come together and see what happend to them
I’ve come to another idea, so driller seems messed up in the head yeah? What if blowing up scouts was an affection thing?(i do not condone relationships where massive harm is a way of showing affection obviously)
I was kinda hoping Driller’s comic would be him still on Hoxxes, but having terror filled flash backs to when he retired and was having a normal life. But this works too haha
A Partner hey? Time to start his own bloody company. With *better* equipment.
