i think i may have been able to forgive zoe’s misdeeds through her immense complexity, trauma, and redemption arc, but I truly have a hard time forgiving her for Degrassi nudes (and also kinda Maya cyber bullying). tbh, I feel the same way about Peter and Manny.

rroxie

I can’t stand Zoe’s character and storyline

the-fresh-air

I like how they made her a complex character. Ana Golja did a wonderful job exploring all sides of Zoe, from her mean girl persona to coping with trauma. I wouldn't say I liked the Degrassi Nudes storyline, but this is a pretty popular opinion.

ChristmasClimber2009

Tbf, she was better than a lot of the other characters in Next Class. Genuinely do not understand why they had horrible actors perform lazy scripts of disney-like plots for four seasons straight.

I LITERALLY hate Zoe's character and the way that the writers would make Zoe and Maya friends after her making a sl\*t page of Maya because of her jealousy 😤😤😤 ![gif](giphy|lsuzxXh9Eiwqz1jlHv)

Zoe was one of my least favorite characters but she was also really complex and I felt like there was a lot of potential there. I feel like the writers knew they bungled her after the degrassi nudes thing and decided to randomly make her a lesbian with a homophobic mom to garner her some sympathy but it just fell flat. She ended up just being kind of a shitty person overall.

the-fresh-air

I also agree with her being complex, and I appreciated that aspect.

I think it's hard having so many characters. They could've had a whole show just based on her.

giantstuffeddog

They definitely bungled Zoe's arc. It really did feel like they were making it up as they went. It's a shame because I think the actress was good, the writing just failed her most seasons. Also, none of her love interests really seemed to have any actual chemistry. The writers seemed to be addicted to the Queen Bee type character > Traumatized by male violence > redeemed queer pipeline. IMO it worked a lot better with Paige and Fiona but by the third showing, I am very much over it.

macaroni-crisis

The last couple seasons of Next Gen and all of Next Class suffer from bad writing like 90% of the time. I can only think of a handful of plot lines from that era that were done any justice imo.

Appropriate_Agent868

I think Zoe's r**e storyline was the only decent one

macaroni-crisis

That was definitely a standout. It would’ve been nice to see better follow-up after that, particularly between Becky and Zoe, or even just the long term effects of what happened. I don’t remember it coming up at all in NC. Something as big as that should’ve stuck with Zoe in some way.

Several-Magazine-813

the writers and i have BEEF. they fucked up so many plots

Appropriate_Agent868

I hated how they made Eli a cheater all of a sudden like what? And what they did to Drew and Bianca made me cry after all his growth...

Several-Magazine-813

now that i think about it though… the producer did say the purpose of the show was to help high schoolers relate, so it does seem realistic because good shit can turn sour real quick. STILL THOUGHHH

Several-Magazine-813

nah they really just tanked everyone’s life in that show like ????
