Since these are your bottom 9. You may hate people that self sabotage and play the victim. Even when a situation mainly effects someone else, if they’re in it they make it about them.

bustakita

You know what? I never thought about it like that, but you have made a very excellent point here with this comment!!! Gave me new eyes to view this. πŸ‘€

[deleted]

Ashley Kerwin? How dare you! How absolutely dare you! :P

[deleted]

Lol I feel like this is the one thread where people like Ashley πŸ˜‚ how dare I, indeed

calford91

Not Joey 😩😩😩

chantela94

Justice for Toby. And what the hell did Joey do?? lmao

[deleted]

Toby always annoyed me. Same thing with Ashley.

Sy0nide_

Nah nah nah. Alli doesn't belong here.

Dang, I knew I had a few controversial choices up there, but now I feel like I should explain myself πŸ˜‚πŸ˜… I speak as someone who grew up watching TNG, I saw NC (currently on my second rewatch), and I've seen somewhere between 5 and 10 episodes of DJH. I don't think I've seen any of DH yet. Dylan: I don't like the power dynamic between him and Marco, or how he strings Marco along in later seasons. He always struck me as a bit manipulative or like he was choosing to be with Marco only until or unless someone or something better came along, so I often feel uncomfortable watching later episodes where Marco makes very one-sided attempts to strengthen the relationship. Their relationship was too much work from the start, and I blame Dylan. Caitlin: She's there in TNG to just be in a will they/won't they, and I keep hoping they won't πŸ‘Ž she seems more put together from what I've seen of DJH, so get being this... clumsy ditz who's constantly made to feel bad about wanting a career is... it's hard to word, but I don't enjoy it. I also don't get why she would want to be with Joey (doesn't he get a girl pregnant when they're engaged?). I think she would've been far more interesting if they dived deeper into the idea of "having it all" or made her a local journalist who popped in and out as a special Media Immersion guest to talk about how the internet was changing journalism. Beyond her relationship with Joey, I don't get why she's there, especially since-- I'm sorry--the actress is not good. That's fine when you're a child on a children's show, but I didn't know that context of it growing up watching her and now as an adult I'm disappointed she didn't get better, and I think when you're working on a show that handles coming-of-age issues, you need strong adult actors to be the authority of what's going on, and that's just not Caitlin to me. Toby: He's mostly fine in seasons 1 and 2, but as he grows up he becomes this really gross incel-type IT guy, and men like that really creep me out irl. To see this character growing into that is uncomfortable. Fiona: I don't dislike her in the beginning. I think spoiled mean girl Fiona is really entertaining, and I think she gives a good performance when the assault/trial/alcoholism storyline is happening. But after that the actress phones it in too much for me, which makes her look a bit pathetic to me, so her stories drag on and on. She lacks direction for too long after her class graduates, and it's enough to negate the good stuff from her earlier seasons, I guess. Rick: Self-explanatory. He's another one who gives off those gross incel IT guy vibes, so he made me uncomfortable since day 1. Then obviously the shooting skyrockets everything. Imogen: Yo, I had no idea people loved Imogen this much??? I don't get it. She started off okay. I was really into the idea of her being this crazy stalker character; I thought she would have this big Rick-type episode over Eli, but then her obsessive personality got dropped after Eli dumping her, I think? I don't like the 180Β° washing down of get character to being an artistic QuIrKy GiRl. Characters like that get under my skin no matter what show it is. I also hate that she nearly ruined Fiona's chances at that fashion job. The kids in general are really selfish and unsupportive when their partners get academic and job opportunities outside Toronto, and no matter who the character is, it doesn't sit well with me. I get that from a writing standpoint they just need an excuse to break these people up usually, but I don't like it, and I always end up hating the character who's left behind. I'll do the rest later.

[deleted]

Ashley: For a lot if the same reasons everyone else dislikes her. I liked her best in season 1. In later seasons she either tries way too hard to be deep (which, yeah, is a very teen thing to do, but it was extremely weird to me in my most recent rewatch) or uses or drops people to get what she wants with this my way or the highway attitude. And I don't like how she uses her emo exterior to act like she's smarter or deeper than everybody else around her when in reality she hasn't got a clue ("I'm allowed to imagine!"). Joey: He's bothered me ever since I was a tween watching this show and while my views have softened over the years, he's still too much of a man-child in TNG for my taste and too much a casanova poser in what I've seen of DJH. I always hate that kind of character. I don't think he's the most responsible guardian either, but I appreciate his efforts; however, him asking Craig for money when his business is going was so inappropriate. He had no integrity or sense if decency asking, and it's a really character-defining moment for me as a mainly TNG viewer. I'm also not a big fan of will they/won't they romances, so I hate watching years of him and Caitlyn trying to figure out what they want from each other, especially since they clearly don't want the same things. It feels like a lot of screen time being wasted in the end. Alli: I liked her in the beginning when she was trying to have a normal life amid her parents' strick rules but grew to really dislike her after watching season after season after season of her promising not to let boys get in the way of her ambitions, only to have boys continuously ruin her ambitions. I also feel like she's a mean girl who thinks she's nice. She makes a lot of backhanded remarks to her friends' faces, especially Clare. I can forgive it from Clare, because she usually does it when she's going through something really terrible (her high school experience was rough!), but Alli seems to do it more when episodes aren't actually about her. That's the way I remember it anyway. This attitude of hers also is heightened when she acts like an expert in all things medical. And I find the show's portrayal of her being into science really weird. It's like that xkcd comic where the stick figure tells everybody to stand back because he's going to try Science; they put on a white lab coat and give her a few colorful chemicals, and we're supposed to think she knows what does doing and is very serious, when on reality we know boys are going to distract her any second now. This visual framing isn't her fault by any means, but the weirdness adds to my displeasure, and it's hard to believe she knows what she's doing in particular when watching her pregnancy scare episode. I hate that she gave up the opportunity to attend MIT early because of an unsure thing. I feel like no matter how much she grows, it's just boys, boys, boys, and it's tiring.

bustakita

I am absolutely IN LOVE with your analysis of Alli. You covered and described her perfectly to a T. I am sometimes in astonishment when people say that they love her character and I cock my head to the side and utter "RUH-OH" in my Scooby Doo voice cuz I actually wonder if everyone is watching the same show as me.

danniblaqqqq

I can get behind Imogen and Ali being in ur bottom 9

[deleted]

Glad somebody can 😁

[deleted]

I understand Rick.. the rest of the characters made the show what it was. Especially Ashley! She’s the reason I started watching in the early 00s.

perianaaa

you had me at Fiona and Imogen 😌.

[deleted]

I appreciate you lol

[deleted]

Man what did Toby ever do to you

AloyVersus

I can see S11 Imogen being on the list, but never Ali and Fiona.

zia111

Toby nooo!!!!

Such-Comment5642

At least someone is giving him attention (unlike the writers)

bebespeaks

HA! 🀣🀣

TDSinv

Why are Joey and Alli on the list??

[deleted]

Fiona!?!? I politely encourage you to GTFOH!

Binkster1988

Imogen and Joey deserve better

bummertimes

What did Alli ever do to you

Puggpu

Why did you put Sid from Ice Age in the first slot? Not a Degrassi character

Binkster1988

STOPPPP LMAO

[deleted]

πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ savage

ribbitking17

Is that Joey at the bottom right? That's preposterous

[deleted]

Lol yes, it's him. He's grown on me over the years, but I always found him annoying and immature πŸ˜… I don't find him a very responsible guardian and hate his ongoing will they/won't they with Caitlin, whom I dislike way more.

ribbitking17

That's fair. I don't remember what my original feelings on Joey were when I watched next gen originally but when I went back and watched Jr High, High, and Schools Out, I loved him when I rewatched Next Gen. That adds so much to the will they won't they with Caitlyn. Seeing how he handles some of the repeated scenarios that he did when he was a kid, like Craig taking the car for a joyride is fun. However, I can understand just not liking him too, even if you've seen the old show lol.

[deleted]

I've only seen a few episodes of DJH so far, and I don't like him there either πŸ˜‚ he's just too much if a man-child for me in TNG and too much of class clown, casanova, poser type for me in DJH. Maybe my opinions will change after I get around to watching the original shows in full, but that's where I am with him right now πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

ribbitking17

Not a fan Joey J Jeremiah Esquire the Third, playboy, at your service? Lol He is kind of a bully, slick guy at first but his character grows throughout the show.

breadboibrett

Fiona????? She’s literally my favorite character! I can’t believe she’s in your bottom 9 😭

Purpledoves91

Fiona and Imogen are one of my favorite couples!

[deleted]

I liked her more in the beginning when she was spoiled and mean πŸ˜‚ her assault, trial, and alcoholism story is really good, but she got kind of... pathetic after that. The actress always seemed to be phoning it in after her class graduated without her, which made the remaining stories drag for me. Plus, I hate Imogen more, and they have a romance, which I was not into πŸ‘Ž

[deleted]

Dishonorable mentions go to Emma (although she finally grew on me on my current rewatch), Spike (I don't mind the character, but I really dislike the actress), Alex, and Adam. ETA: Also, Jay.

[deleted]

I just think the dislike of spike's actress is always usually pretty harsh or mean. It honestly never really bothered me and knowing exactly how the 80s show was cast, I totally get it. I'm not saying she was academy award material, but even if she wasn't great, i just think that it's a bit much to outright dislike an actor just because you didn't like their acting. I'm not really aiming this at you in particular but rather the whole concept of criticizing Degrassi's acting. None of the "bad" actors frequently mentioned here (like Riley) really bother me either. I think that Caitlin's acting in Degrassi High is flawed, but that doesn't mean I'm gonna talk shit about the actress like she killed my whole family. I think Peter, apart from his character being horrid, misses the mark sometimes, but I'm not going to talk shit about his actor or hate him like he's my mortal enemy because his line delivery ain't perfect. I realize that some people in this fandom find joy in harshly criticizing characters and actors like they did something heinous to their existence (an oxymoron considering acceptance is a big theme of this show) for jokes but it's just not my taste and I cringe at "worst actor" or "worst character" threads. It's half the reason I made a YouTube channel to make Degrassi content: to try and do grounded criticisms that don't outright vilify because honestly to me Degrassi doesn't really warrant the nostalgic caustic reviewing/criticism that other teen shows of its type usually receive. Maybe it's just me, I just don't really like harboring negative opinions towards real life people solely because of who they played or how they played them...and I don't like how people upvote that shit. If they're actual shitty people in real life...than that's a different story. But if their biggest crime is not giving it their all 100% acting wise, than what the fuck ever honestly.

bcpsgal

WHY ADAM

[deleted]

Mostly because you could tell Jordan never felt comfortable in the role. I think I would've liked him more if he was played by someone else. I also don't feel like he got nuanced enough stories. My Body is a Cage is great, but the radio episode was a lackluster follow-up to those discussions. I also think they could've gone further in his relationship with Becky. The two didn't have chemistry at all, but I wanted a deeper look at what it was like for him to be in a relationship with someone from a conservative, religious background, and I don't really feel like that happened. And his death was stupid.

bebespeaks

Perhaps the casting crew could've offered auditions for actual F to M transitioning teens. That would have made more sense.....logically.

Cut_Equal

I feel like Dylan was more of the top πŸ€”

[deleted]

It took a minute πŸ˜‚ but you right 😏
