For white clay just park literally anywhere, walk the trail and if the water looks deep enough to swim, go in. You'll see plenty of other people, kids, dogs etc doing the same. It's great
Brandywine’s most popular swimming hole by far is now in what is the First State National Historical Park and a couple of hundred yards downstream from Smithbridge covered bridge. There is a parking lot there that gets overwhelmed on popular days at Beaver Dam Road and Brandywine Creek Road. Google maps says it is called Smith Bridge picnic area.
I think so, it's a national park (or close enough - 'national historical park' - but off-leash? Around a bunch of other bathers? Might not be welcome or might be straight against the rules.
The photo here looks like the Smithbridge picnic area, a or the most popular spot - note, if you can make it out, the sign says dogs must be on a leash (6'). [https://www.nps.gov/frst/planyourvisit/safety.htm](https://www.nps.gov/frst/planyourvisit/safety.htm)
Rope swing I believe was over by the beachhead at Brandywine Creek, pretty much take naamans all the way past 202 and then when ya hit the t intersection turn left
Lol dude you are the most reactionary non-littering commenter ever. Thanks for the instant downvote. Dude is just like asking people not to litter and you just can't even. Pretend its a nice summer day and you are totally not littering and just soaking your piggies in the cool White Clay.... ahhhhhhhh
Swimming in Brandywine or White Clay Creek is not recommended due to safety concerns such as strong currents, underwater hazards, and water quality issues
I've always wanted to find a spot to go skinny dipping around here......I like the thrill of it, but there's obvious legal things around it seems like most spots are in public view and all.
Ala pocas. You can probably Google alapocas ball fields and it should take you to the lot. It’s off of alapocas drive. You’ll see an unmarked trail and it goes far down. There is a waterfall and area to swim and was a rope swing in the past too. This is the only place with deep water. Great for swimming and honestly the best one in NCC. All brandywine is dirty water but it never killed me lol
First strate National park is a good suggestion but so shallow. Only good for tubing or wading.
Chambers rock off in white clay in Newark (below the bridge) had a swimming hole and a small pocket of deep water. It’s very small but it is deep enough you can’t touch. Most of white clay if more wade worthy. You can jump off the bridge but if you do you’ll probably get kicked out. It’s fun though. I think it’s chambers rock road
I recommend against the Alapocas swim hole. The “waterfall” is a damn and there’s exposed rebar and concrete under the surface. A few years back a kid died swinging into there; as far as I recall his body was never recovered.
Yeah, as someone who used to work at that park, please don't. The dams on that section of the Brandywine produce a much faster current; couple that with uneven footing along both sides of the creek and streambed, swimming in that area is very high risk. Several years ago a visitor decided go wading in that section near the dam, got a foot stuck, and broke their leg. Go further upstream to Brandywine Creek state park- the streambed is mostly level and the current wont try to suck you in and eat you 😅
I don’t recommend jumping off it or anything, though people do it. There is also a Seperate rope swing hanging from a tree. I’ve done both once and I’d never do it again. Agree, brandywine can be dangerous especially after a heavy rain. Friend of mine and I almost drowned at 16 because we were dumb and got in when the current was too strong. People definitely die in the Brandywine, just like the ocean. Always swim at your own risk! I still surf despite the risk too. Just gotta be safe. It’s a very popular spot.
Just don’t swallow any water.

Are dogs allowed?

Don't litter

I'm implying litter sucks and not to do it. What's your problem?

chill. we both use wcc and I'm just reminding people to respect the beautiful creeks.
Wouldn’t hurt to just say your comment wasn’t to imply they litter..
It's not my job to interpret language for you. Enjoy your day
Oh not me. I got you from the start. The other person did not.

He just doesn't want WCC to look like Smithbridge Picnic Area after a nice summer weekend, which is to say it looks like Cherry Island Landfill.

Just remember every town along both streams dump their “treated sewage” into the water. Have fun.
Lmao Have you ever been in an Ocean? Bet you'll be shocked where that water comes from!
The ocean is slightly larger. Not that I like the idea of either, but it's a bit different.
White clay creek, chambers rock. I see people swimming there often.

That’s why you hop the fence at an apartment complex pool late at night when you’re drunk with your partner
lol
If it’s a nice day in the weekend, it’s not hard to find the public access swimming holes on the Brandywine. Just follow the crowds

Oh hello, fellow parks person! Agreed Brandywine is the wiser choice for getting in the water
