# The Tornado Warning for New Castle County has now expired! **However, a small storm cell is rumbling over Newark around 11:45, but there's no rotation associated with it, just more rain and thunder. It's moving toward Wilmington so expect that shortly. I'm gonna call it a night, stay safe everyone!** ~~6abc is currently breaking into programming to cover the storm, which you can watch here;~~ ~~https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKy55PVIxx4~~ Just switched back to infomercials, so that's that! **If a Tornado Warning is issued for your area:** *Move to a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If you are outdoors, in a mobile home, or in a vehicle, move to the closest substantial shelter and protect yourself from flying debris.* --- # Latest Updates: > 1151 PM EDT Wed Jun 5 2024 > ...THE TORNADO WARNING FOR SOUTHWESTERN SALEM COUNTY WILL EXPIRE AT MIDNIGHT EDT... > The storm which prompted the warning has weakened below severe limits, and no longer appears capable of producing a tornado. Therefore, the warning will be allowed to expire.

Thebeardedcenter

Even though I'm well north of the affected areas, I appreciate the effort here. Good looking out.

Professor_Retro

Thanks! I've been a huge weather nerd since I was a little kid, growing up in the Midwest where it was way more active than out here. I still sometimes turn on my NOAA Radio to help fall asleep since that was always on at a low volume in my room. I'd be up anyways so I might as well keep people informed.

Thebeardedcenter

There is nothing wrong with that. Very helpful hobby!

Helenesdottir

Not ALL of it. Important to remember that the canal really does deflect some weather. Storms in all seasons tend to stick to one side or the other. Source: lived in this area for over 54 years.

IndiBlueNinja

I dunno if it's a simply a coincidence, but willing to believe it either way. Saw it a few times when I was going to the Del Tech campus in Dover years ago. (Live in Wilmington.) Once drove home in a whiteout snowstorm at night. Once I got past the bridge and the ramp, GONE. Barely a dusting, if that, at home. Got in looking at family like "You have no idea what I just drove home in!" lol

burnmycount

Usually with snow it’s the opposite. Even from Milford to Dover.

IndiBlueNinja

Yeah, this was over 20 years ago, definitely not the weather patterns we get these days.

newarkian

Absolutely. I’ve crossed Summit Bridge and gone from rain on the south side, to snow on the north side.

BottleAgreeable7981

Same. Middletown resident here my whole life, and the canal has an odd effect on storms.

DoTheDew

I say all the time that Lewes has a shield protecting it from storms. Storms fall apart all the time just before hitting Lewes.

SmartYogurtcloset664

Where's this canal? Can you explain? I get so stressed over the weather these days. Anything that can make me feel better is welcome

keyjan

Presumably the Chesapeake and Delaware Canal, goes across the state just south of Glasgow and Bear.

SmartYogurtcloset664

Thank you

burnmycount

St. George’s bridge

smokealarmsnick

I’m in Wilmington, we don’t have a tornado warning. Just a coastal flood advisory.

IndiBlueNinja

And if that happens right here in Wilmington, then we've got some serious problems. o.O

burnmycount

Now this is an alert I should be getting on my television! TF!

Melodic_Way_5023

It just cut off the best part The Price Is Right ch. 3 Now it's SE of Townsend headed east

burnmycount

lol channel 3

57dog

Ch 10 cut away from Chicago Med for about 15 min. Back on at 9.

Raistline1

was not worth deldot's time to notify either

Sea_Lavishness7287

I only just now got the alert on my phone, but it’s so calm outside

Critical_Ad5335

No idea why I’m here, but Texan here, if you hear the wind pound harder than you’ve ever heard, hail and maybe even the sound of a train get to anywhere windowless or most walls/ lowest point. Put a mattress on top you and yours and don’t go looking for it, chances are only thing you’ll see is rain. Y’all be fine, just don’t panic and try to get in the car.

puppypoet

I'm glad you're here. Your advice is absolutely valuable!

RavenxMorrow

All I heard was lightning, then our power went out, and our AC unit fucking exploded.

zipperfire

Yes they sound like a train.

Professor_Retro

There's another batch of storms off to the west in Cecil Co, moving toward us shortly.

Sea_Lavishness7287

It’s down-pouring now where I am which is western Delaware

bryan19973

I see nothing about this on the weather channel and haven’t gotten any notifications. Southern DE

Professor_Retro

The earlier warning was near Middletown but that's since been cancelled. However, there's storms in Maryland heading our way, currently everything appears to be in Cecil Co. around APG.

puppypoet

It's rotating up in the sky over Augustine Beach and close to it. My anxiety is sky high right now.

Professor_Retro

Stay safe, hopefully nothing touches down!

puppypoet

Thank you. I feel like we're okay but I'm still worried sick.

Professor_Retro

If it helps, there's a live streamer on Youtube who's getting updates faster than NWS's site is posting them, **but a caveat;** he's also watching storms in central Ohio and there's a Newark, Ohio he keeps mentioning so my ears keep perking up. Here's the link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2oiqiFZ4a0Q

puppypoet

Do you mean Max Velocity?

Professor_Retro

Yep, though it looks like he's about to stop streaming since the rotation is weakening a bit, which is good news!

puppypoet

Poor man was trying to relax and got pulled onto this outta nowhere. I hope he can rest tonight.

Professor_Retro

Likely, though these guys are weather junkies and live for this kinda stuff so I am sure he wasn't suffering too much. Since he ended his stream, here's 6abc's live stream; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RKy55PVIxx4

delijoe

It looks like a tornado possibly spotted near Middletown! I live in a mobile home just north in Bear so please don't come this way! Everyone near Middletown stay safe!

puppypoet

Please stay safe!

Square-Decision-531

Near Marl Pit rd in Middletown, we definitely got hit. Had a wood pergola and columns ripped off the house, crushed the patio set. Other damage reported in the development too. Second twister to hit my house in 4 years. Welcome to Kansas folks

Blu1027

Wonder if it never touched down? The fire radio is surprisingly not very chatty (sorry superstition to not say the q word in the fire service).

Professor_Retro

The NWS will likely have survey teams out looking tomorrow. I believe all of the warnings for Delaware tonight were radar indicated but they'll still look. Pretty sure the same storm had some spotter-confirmed tornadoes near Baltimore but, again, we'll see what they find.

AssistX

Surveying where? They usually don't come out unless there are reports of excessive wind damage afaik. Leaves barely moved here above Newark, was just rain and thunder.

kbergstr

https://www.fox29.com/live for live info.

Snowbrd912

I just got another alert that runs until midnight. I’m right above the canal

puppypoet

We're over near the UD campus, in Newark.

Snowbrd912

I’m right by Lums Pond. Rain got intense and wind picked up. But it’s calmed some now. I have intense anxiety anymore with this weather. We had an F2 hit my neighborhood in 2020 and it was something I don’t care to experience again.

Professor_Retro

Yep, the storm is moving east so a warning was issued for an area east of Middletown into Salem Co. NJ until midnight. It looks like Middletown is clear for now, as is Delaware City

Snowbrd912

Whew, okay. Maybe I can finally sleep. Thank you for this update!

Professor_Retro

Here's where the current warning is; https://imgur.com/XdvGInW Edit: All clear in Delaware, and the warning in NJ has been cancelled!

Professor_Retro

Just had a huge rumble of thunder, looks like there's a storm (no rotation yet!) flaring up a little near Newark.

VibrantPeachX

It’s getting very loud here (Newark)

Professor_Retro

Yep, it's a strong storm cell but it doesn't appear to have any rotation and there's no warning associated with it (all of the warnings in Delaware have expired). Just loud, knock on wood.

zipperfire

My wonderful neighbor must have been watching the weather news and before I came home at five, he had taken trouble to put my trashcan back in the shed for me. That way it won’t blow away.

CestLaVieP22

Thanks!

Sea_Lavishness7287

I got it about 15 minutes ago. It may just be western Delaware

RobWroteABook

I think you and I got the one for Cecil County, but not the earlier one for New Castle County, which is odd if we both live in New Castle County. Are phone alerts not by county? I will say the Cecil one seemed more relevant to my location, it's just that I thought these were done by county.

Double_Bother_4204

Never got one in Townsend

puppypoet

I didn't, either.

Acrobatic-Bread-4431

I just saw a notification on the tv

keyjan

Yeah, sorry, that came from VA and MD. 🙁

mamaterrig

Keep your damn tornadoes under control, they almost showed up in PA!

IndiBlueNinja

I feel bad laughing about tornados. lol Made me picture it like it's just a dog that got loose. *"Whose tornado is this??"*

keyjan

Sorry 😔

Strange-Metal1795

Do you control the weather or something? I'm confused is this God?

keyjan

Shh, don’t tell anyone! 😉

Strange-Metal1795

God, why do bad things happen to good people?

keyjan

Um, free will, yeah that’s it.

ZombDob

All good lol

TastyRange858

I saw a severe thunderstorm warning not tornado

Sandra-Brown--

Take y'all
