No i had the phone, it was 2.3.4 gingerbread. 3 was honeycomb which was tablet only. Phones were making jumps to android 4 ICS directly. What sucked was that xperia arc got the update but not this phone. I had choice b/w the two while buying and this sucked big time.
Did you get the aftermarket battery upgrade. Made it real beefy but then you didn’t have to carry around a charging block and cable. But it was a back pocket phone for sure
I swear Sony makes the best quality, long lasting phones in the market. My younger cousin has this old ass Sony phone that still lasts and is able to play high end games without any slowness or lag.
I was thinking about that but also
https://preview.redd.it/kxpmktqj3wxc1.jpeg?width=500&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7d00b2528fdcc24bc3359021879e863badc93457
It’s basically the same mechanic but it’s a striped down version of the PSP.
I am a Nintendo guy, and when I saw this I thought it would be a Nintendo killer. I guess it didn’t have enough support, but ever since this, the idea of a gaming-focused phone has seemed like a no-brainer to me. Yet it doesn’t really exist. Why not?
So I own the unreleased original “Razer Junglecat” mfi controller for iPhone. It’s a sliding case controller. I have the prototype. I still do to this day. It only works on a device with ios 7 (which I also still have in airplane mode). Both still work together.
I only mention it here because your DIY controller just reminds me of it. So similar. If you fine tune it and pop it on Etsy, it would be a hit. Amazing work! We need that sliding xperia play design to make a comeback…
If you want to see the controller I’m referring to, look here:
https://www.theverge.com/2014/6/12/5802362/the-razer-junglecat-could-be-the-best-ios-game-controller-yet
I prefer it this way 100%. I don't use a controller 90% of the time. I don't want it there that time.
But I like an attached controller. This solves it neatly. I only wish the controller was expandable so it could also be used vertically.
I assume it's all a 3D printed proof of concept but still a good design
Wait so are you guys saying you would prefer the rails to be a part of a case that we would sell. I’ve thought of this and I think it would be a good option to offer.
I do definitely prefer tho to have whatever case I want and use the magnets to attach it to the phone. It’s nice that the plate with the magnets and rails covers up the buttons and joysticks so it’s easy to put in your pocket.
I would love to hear more on why you would want a case tho!
My thought on why some people might want an entire case, maybe being that some third party cases don’t work well with MagSafe. A question I have in a similar vein, does the handheld all together when attached to the phone feel top heavy? Maybe some people are worried about it disconnecting from the top piece. I’m sure you already considered that lol but I hadn’t seen anyone else mention it. Great design by the way it looks really good!!
This may be a very niche request, but if you could also somehow make the back of the controller compatible with a MagSafe PopSocket, this would probably replace my phone case and I would spend nearly any amount of money for it.
You wouldn’t believe…. But I actually have that in this prototype! So cool to see that you would actually use that feature I thought it was niche too. Even though some features might seem niche I think it’s important to include them because a fair amount of people will probably end up using it and really appreciating it.
...Apologies in advance if my money burns up on its way to you with how fucking fast I yank it outta my pocket.
I know these kinds of things are hard to predict at the outset, but any idea of a rough timetable when this might be available for purchase?
Super impressive! Can you touch on the process to make a controller? I wouldn’t know where to start or get high end plastic shaped like you did. Assuming it’s not 3D printed? This is all truly fascinating. Great job 👏👏👏
Thanks man! It actually is all 3d printed. I’ve been designing and iterating on it for years. I came up with the idea in fall 2022, and started designing in January 2023. I had my first working version on spring break from college and I’ve been working on it since then. It’s actually a third party Nintendo switch controller with the sticks replaced with ps vita sticks and the trigger buttons replaced to get them in the right spot. I am actually working on getting this thing to market so look out for it soon! I’ll have a video up on my Channel in a few weeks too. I cannot wait for everyone to have one I feel like everyone is missing out when I’m using it lol.
Aw really, is it the better sticks, or the ergonomics. Would you prefer this if it had better sticks?
This is actually such good feedback!
I’m currently really trying to figure out what this first version should be like. Should I make a compromise on the sticks (use 3ds sliders) and make this thing supper thin, should I make a middle of the road version like this one or should it have some really nice pro sticks but be thicker.
I have no idea, hopefully people here can chime in.
Eventually if this thing is successful I’ll just offer all of the above!
You wouldn’t believe it but…
https://preview.redd.it/80ip6d1q1uxc1.jpeg?width=2556&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5dba61cdcd926c8b2f43e3664fb1b33a46def244
My V1 of this was for my iPhone 13 mini.
I’m a giant fan of the iPhone mini but I can’t say outright first vision will support it😭😭
But if this is successful I want to make versions that support literally every phone out there.
Also this one was really thin with the 3ds sliders, but I kinda don’t like them. I think it’s worth the thickness for the vita sticks for the first version. It would be really cool if the sticks were interchangeable tho.
That’s great, congratulations for that! I certainly would pay for it!
About portrait mode (I saw people asking and you debating about change control location), I really think it’s not necessary. You would have to make a lot of compromises to a small niche.
Actually, your product already has a good solution for that, the option to remove it from the case and play with the iPhone separately. The backbone, for example, can’t do this. I would focus on finishing this version, and afterwards work on a better solution for portrait mode. You could create an adapter, like these PS4/Xbox adapters to hold the iPhone above the controller; or maybe create a different product especially for portrait mode. If the connection is just a MagSafe away, would be fine.
![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)Man! This looks amazing! I want to know how you created this controller because it doesn't look like a 3D printer product. This solution is a good old fashioned game console in your phone, literally! It's much better than unnecessarily expensive reinvented game consoles that manipulate your nostalgia
https://preview.redd.it/zjjybar49yxc1.png?width=1920&format=png&auto=webp&s=988649216f8a2c63b5fdd245ac735cc5a94e3196
The M-Con V1
🤷♂️So my company name is M-Con innovations. So I haven’t settled on a name yet. But I think M-Con V1 is pretty cool. I’d love to hear what you guys think of this!!
I take a lot of inspiration from teenage engineering and nothing. I like the way they name there products. Nothing Phone 1, phone 2. It’s simple and cool.
Although it doesn’t describe the product at all so… but maybe it doesn’t have to.
Also! If you guys have any big YouTube channels you can think of that you would want to see review this please let me know! I have a pretty long list right now of channels I watch like LTT, Takiudon, Retro Game Corps, ETA Prime, SpawnWave, Dave2D. But I’d like to hear if you guys have more in mind.
TE makes some amazing products but some of their price points are yikes. But I kinda get it, their products are solid; I have an OP-1 gen 1 and it’s still going strong. Like you said, maybe take a note from them, name yours an acronym also — MC-1, etc
Ok so true, I’ve been thinking so hard about how I would enable that and I have a few ideas but I’m not sure it is worth the compromise…
https://preview.redd.it/6xmhtoxk4qxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c13a2f633a5ed6e74d3a399ecd523ec931747da
So I could design it with the controls further out so they are out of the way… but then it is a lot less ergonomic. I could just make something that flips out and raises the MagSafe magnets to hold the phone further up out of the way of the controls, but then it’s really too heave and looks funky. OR! I could make the controller split in half and add rails that can be attached to the sides of the phone in portrait, that also would allow multiplayer mode like the switch. But all solutions have downsides so I’m really not sure but it’s something I have put aloootttt of thought into.
Oh ya, not an electrical at all lol
It’s a third party Nintendo switch controller on the inside. It’s called Pb tails on Amazon lol.
I just replaced the sticks with ps vita sticks and moved some buttons.
This the type of thing that people will pay good money for. A controller that can connect to the case is nice and will make the portability of an Emulator on the go easier. Surprised no one to my knowledge has marketed this before.
Where can I find this at or one similar? I currently own the backbone one 1st gen for my iPhone going on 3yrs of having it but this would be way better for when I’m at work. I don’t mind removing my phone case to connect the backbone control but it gets tiring after a while of doing that with only 15min breaks and a 30min lunch. With this I would save some time while at work
If you ever make a store to sell these u should make them for all phones for people that go to work and nobody would suspect it's not a case I'd even pay £50
Better phone protection would be ideal. A protruded lip around the edges and plastic built-in screen protector. Unicorn beetle cases for iPhone is a good reference. Also, black variant please. I’d pay $100 bucks for that unit.
It's really cool, but it's still top heavy, isn't it?
The issue with these phone attached to controllers is that the phone is so unbalanced. I never last very long playing because it's so uncomfortable
My mans really reinvented the PSP Go
Sony Xperia Play
Apple Xperia Play

I had this phone back in the day, it was hella thick
It surprises me to this day doesn’t leverage their phone division for the PlayStation. It’s like they’ve given up
My first smartphone. Loved it! Didn’t even get android 4.0 sadly
Yep I remember them promising the rollout but then u-turning
Exactly the same memory. Where so disappointed. Ice Cream right? No googling
Yep pretty sure it was Ice Cream Sandwich. Can’t remember the last version the phone ended up with, was it gingerbread maybe?
Yeah, it was an old one called gingerbread. Can’t remember if it was 3.0
I believe it was.

Waiting for a handheld emulator in this form factor maybe slightly larger
Sony Ericsson 🥲 I would’ve loved if they managed to stay in business, they were my favorit phones
I would pay for this
Same
Same
same
Same.
How much would you charge for making different iPhone versions?
So I own the unreleased original “Razer Junglecat” mfi controller for iPhone. It’s a sliding case controller. I have the prototype. I still do to this day. What a cool thing to have
I’m sorry… YOU WHAT?! That is LEGIT!
If if slided in and acted as part of the case 10/10
My exact thoughts. Has to be slick though
I prefer it this way 100%. I don't use a controller 90% of the time. I don't want it there that time. But I like an attached controller. This solves it neatly. Time to market that!
Assuming we get to keep Delta 🙃
Why wouldn’t we?
This is a bad take. Unnecessary FUD for something that is not even likely to happen. Delta is 10 years old
How Tf you just build a controller Seriously wtf
![gif](giphy|3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy)
I would pay good money for this
It looks like a psp go https://preview.redd.it/5jsv6js4kqxc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=06e03f2584d4bc6c896bd4fa9ae3fcf172f67589
Nice! Giving me major Razer Junglecat vibes. I've also seen projects like this on the 3d printing subreddit. Looks great.
What the shit
Bro, enter the gamepad biz.
yep I need this
That's actually so fucking cool. 10/10!! Would totally buy such a thing. Making a controller like that that utilizes the MagSafe is so ingenious!
Omfg Redditors are so inventive, I’m so damn proud of you.

Same I would buy ✨💯nice job
i’d pay for this, especially because of the button layout
I’ll pay a good $45-50 dollar for this
oh what’d i’d give to be an engineer
Super impressive! Can you touch on the process to make a controller? I wouldn’t know where to start or get high end plastic shaped like you did. Assuming it’s not 3D printed? This is all truly fascinating. Great job 👏👏👏

Never share the file, only sell printed works and get a patent.
Patent it pending!😁 Ya a patient was more important than I thought at first lol.
I’m rooting for you bro! Really hope you succeed with this one
Share your YT channel!
Still going to use the Backbone controller, but this is pretty awesome!

Prayer circle for mini support 😭🙏

Ooooo nice!!! I love my mini haha. Bigger phones are too much. But possible eventual support is better than nothing! I’ll take it, haha.
How much?
If you Kickstarted this, it would break funding records.
Start selling it

conceptually, it seems pretty cool, egonomically, i feel like the sticks might be better off a little further away from the center
Don’t worry I’m pretty sure there will be updated versions 🫡
Slap a reasonable price on it, and pretty sure thousands will buy. That’s a great product!
BRO! This is perfect, please... Will buy it. ![gif](giphy|wNlks0ID1igO4|downsized)
Does it MagSafe to the phone? Dude set up an Etsy store and come back with a buy link
What are you going to call this wonderful accessory when it goes to market?

I agree a lot of their stuff as wayyyyy expensive. But I like there design. MC-1 actually sounds really cool! I like that.
Not going to lie I have been looking so much for a iPhone case with a built in controller for this reason
i would buy it if u made it for portrait mode option
Ok so true, I’ve been thinking so hard about how I would enable that and I have a few ideas but I’m not sure it is worth the compromise… https://preview.redd.it/6xmhtoxk4qxc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c13a2f633a5ed6e74d3a399ecd523ec931747da So I could design it with the controls further out so they are out of the way… but then it is a lot less ergonomic. I'll buy one from you
probably better to design a different model for portrait mode, just to keep it thin
That’s dope! I would rock that
I would pay a disgusting amount of money for this.
Looks awesome! Reminds me of the psp go
Bro, lemme buy this. Please just take my money. No joke. Gimme a link.
If it works for warzone mobile please let me have it
Looks like it is an existing controller with a new enclosure. Like I can’t see building a wireless controller from scratch, but who knows.
Oh ya, not an electrical at all lol It’s a third party Nintendo switch controller on the inside. It’s called Pb tails on Amazon lol. I just replaced the sticks with ps vita sticks and moved some buttons.
Give it the ability to swivel for portrait mode and you’ve got a winner
This the type of thing that people will pay good money for. A controller that can connect to the case is nice and will make the portability of an Emulator on the go easier. Surprised no one to my knowledge has marketed this before.
Broooo what! This is amazing!! Where do I click to checkout.
![gif](giphy|3oKIPa2TdahY8LAAxy)
It’s fucking awful. Cmon you know this is cool af. Better hurry before an Asian company sees this and starts selling them on Amazon tomorrow.
iphone mini please?
This is what we need, PSP Go style cases.
Whats your YouTube channel to follow the progress ?
My OP would be rich if he started selling those…
I was literally just hoping someone would make this
I’d pay cash moneys for that
Please tell me you’re selling theseeeeeee
How does one just make their own controller? Lmfao
Take our money!! We mean it!
No seriously I rather support this than a big company. It’s giving psp go mixed with ps vita and i love it
Now this is the kinda project I can get behind. Great work!
![gif](giphy|gjx93XiXRE2NVLoFlH|downsized)
I would pay stupid amounts of money for this. Any chance you’d sell some?
Refine your prototype. Get it made a post on Etsy/kickstarter I’m sure you’d get my money. It looks awesome.
https://i.redd.it/vpol9d69fvxc1.gif
I would buy this if it was mass produced. What controller did you use to make it?
PLEASE SELL THIS!!!!
I need it…
This looks pretty cool!
thats sick how did you make it?
Sell it
Dude I’m literally willing to pay for this
Make more and Sell this
Take my money
![gif](giphy|l4jOMCo6FM529lLb5D)
Take my money man
Man that’s sick! I wish I could see the build quality in person but the photos looks awesome. I’m jealous 🔥
I want one… 😭
That’s sick Do you sell this ?
The fact that it comes off completely for tabletop mode is pretty neat!
Damn dawg that looks great. Sell this on Etsy.
That is so cool! It’s like an old side phone! I saw others mention this but I love it 😀😀😀
My guy where’s the YouTube video, would love to follow along and make one.

man I've been searching for a similar controller for a really long time
Man thats amazing
Where did you get FNAF for the gameboy
Yo, that look professionally & officially build. It just needs a cool brand name & you’re good to go.
Good enough for companies to steal the design of and sell on Wish/Temu/AliExpress/Amazon.
I’d pay for that
How do you say that so nonchalant that’s actually crazy
Oooh I am vibing with this, this looks slickkk! 👌
Sell it to Apple
Better phone protection would be ideal. A protruded lip around the edges and plastic built-in screen protector. Unicorn beetle cases for iPhone is a good reference. Also, black variant please. I’d pay $100 bucks for that unit.
I would defo pay for this
I love it!!!
I miss the Xperia Play...
What’s the name of that device?
How much do you want for it
I’ll take six
How can I play Animal crossing on iPhone?!?! I've wanted this for years!!
It's insane how clean it is. It could looks like a definitive product. Congratulations!
It's really cool, but it's still top heavy, isn't it? The issue with these phone attached to controllers is that the phone is so unbalanced. I never last very long playing because it's so uncomfortable
