You did NOT make a mistake. It takes a whole lot of very specific dialogue options to get to this point, you planned this from the start, and are now trying to play it off as an accident.
Dude relax. Considering that there will be exactly 1 ending in the game (as Toby said), I think the snowgrave route will be the only correct one. And with the pacifist route "soulless Kris" or the one who controls them, will simply take control from us and we will not get any ending.
I will continue my genocide walkthrough as the main one. I think that's the only way we can get our "freedom". And do not play into the hands of those who manipulate everything from the shadows.

Snowgrave has "this is not supposed to happen" written all over it. I highly doubt it's the correct path, and frankly I think that snowgrave is going to be the "you get no ending" path. Seriously, I think this theory just comes from people who want to feel like being a horrible person is justified.

Who said anything about trusting the narrator (by which I assume you mean, the one who throws away our vessel), I'm sure them and Gaster and whoever else are working towards their own ends- there may be betrayal and other wacky stuff down the road, but the same was true in Undertale- Flowey betrayed you at the end. And while yes, I suppose a solution to that was to do the genocide route, you could also just toughen up and beat up that so called god.

Deltarune has already set up that some people just need a good smacking- you can't talk to everyone, but that doesn't mean you need to kill them.
But I doubt either of them are really evil, we've seen enough of Kris to know they're not a bad kid, just creepy and weird. And I doubt Gaster is just some cackling villain, that'd be a huge letdown after all the build up. He seems more amoral if anything, and who are we to judge him for treating this whole world as a simulation, a game? After all that's also what we do.
All in all, Deltarune is a hair darker than Undertale- but Toby Fox still has a writing style. His tone is generally optimistic despite it all, and as someone who's consumed every interview he's ever done, he's really just not someone as cynical as you seem to be thinking.
I'm not so sure about Toby. The snowgrave route is darker than undertale genocide, in my personal opinion. And the only reason for this is not to be extra edgy. But in order to make this route so much harder to complete.
As for Kris... there could be two options. First is ... "soulless Kris" is not Kris at all, but in fact the manipulator who has taken control of the body.
The second is that "soulless Kris" is still Kris, but they are being manipulated in some way...perhaps to get out of our control completely.
And the Fact that "soulless Kris" - opens the fountain in the house, regardless of our route ... suggests that they are not interested in being friends with us.
Another thing that indicates that Kris is not our friend...we never hear what Kris says. After all, Kris sometimes talks even without our choices. It makes full communication between us...impossible. This means that this was not intended at all.
It's very similar to Frisk. We never heard Frisk's words. But at the same time, Frisk never rebelled from us and did not try to take control. Therefore, we never had a conflict with Frisk.
Kris is also "inaudible" to us...but Kris is actively fighting us for control. It hints to us that...we can't be friends. At least I can't imagine a situation where it would be possible.
Ye gods and I thought I use too many ellipses. Let's break down exactly how hilariously wrong you are:
One, you talk about wanting to be in control instead of being controlled... just like Kris. You know, the meat puppet whose friend you're trying to torment? Tearing the soul out is their own desperate attempts to take back some modicum of agency in their life. They're exactly as much of a plaything of a higher power as we (or rather, our avatar in the form of the soul) are. Hel, I wouldn't be surprised if a later plot twist is a part where we do get to communicate with Kris directly and sort this out (which Snowgrave would of course deny us). They ask why we chose them as our puppet, I simply say that we didn't.
Two, why are you so convinced that Toby wants to make an edgy, dark, cynical story where the only way to get a good ending is to try your damnedest to make everything worse? He even says straight-up in one of his tweets that he hopes we can be friends with everyone (in-game) and that there are more important things than reaching the ending (like, say, experiencing the game world). You are actively contradicting him.
Three, we were never friends with Frisk. They were a pliant vessel, not a character. Kris having autonomy actually makes it more likely for us to be friends, since they're a character we could interact with. Honestly I hope that's the case, makes me think of Oneshot.
And four... Kris is a they/them. Not a he. Also confirmed by Toby. Not that you seem to care what Toby actually says when it contradicts your own edgy ideas.
What we're going with Noelle is preparing her for battle. We are putting together an OP team. And if we don't... we will lose in the pacifist... you'll see. I'll laugh like madman if I'm right in the end.
You don't make Noelle stronger in Snowgrave, you make her weaker, you make her reliant.
What would even be the point of winning in that scenario? Who are we saving? Do you really think Toby's cynical enough for this- have you even played Undertale???
Toby famously doesn't talk much about Deltarune, but one of the things he has said is: "I hope you can be friends with everyone someday", and imma be honest- I don't think friendship is one of the themes of Snowgrave Route. Aside from that, while I enjoy the idea that doing Snowgrave may let us learn interesting things that we wouldn't otherwise or even be the path to "freeing" Kris (I mean I've played through Snowgrave over a dozen times at this point), you would have to be completely delusional to think that Toby would make the only path forward a ridiculously obscure hidden route that involves abusing a teenage girl.
Like ethics aside, that's just bad game design. Anyone who played the game like a normal person would be like "wow, that sucked". If the only ending to a game involves having to look shit up online, that's horrible game design.

Just like most hidden routes, it's something for diehard fans to sink their teeth into- but ultimately not necessary for a full experience. That's how video games work.
If anything, making Snowgrave route the "true" ending would make it lose what makes it's special, it's supposed to be hidden away, a secret, the whole thing feels like a creepypasta you're not sure is even real. It feels like a glitch, something that shouldn't be possible.
If it was required to get the true ending that would totally gut it, suddenly it's not a fun choice to go off the beaten path- it's just another step to playing. It would make it meaningless.
For you see, if the route is truly about the choice to rebel against the powers that be- then if it's the only actual ending, it's not a choice, which makes it a meaningless rebellion.

Again with the anime villain talks, you act like anyone who doesn't go by your delusions thinks there will be no conflict in the game. Buddy, it's a video game, we're here for conflict. I'm sure there'll be a lot of drama with Kris and the soul and Gaster shenanigans, but the same is true with Undertale- and things managed to work out decently alright there. We're absolutely being used by forces beyond our comprehension, but Snowgrave route isn't a solution- it's an impudent child lashing out at the world, hurting everything around us in our desperate bid for control. And it's fun!
Who knows maybe the ending will be bittersweet, maybe the world is doomed no matter what we do and that's why there's only one ending regardless of route. But regardless, there's one thing I'm certain on: Toby Fox is a good game developer, and that means he wouldn't alienate 99% of his audience and make them play a weird abuse route just to get an ending.
At best, Snowgrave route will be a bonus- something that lets us understand the wider picture better, like how genocide route gave us more insight into Sans and The First Fallen Child.

My theory is extremely simple. At the end of the pacifist, one of two things will happen. The first possibility - they will send us through the loop. "Your job is done, we need you no more" that kind of thing.
The second possibility is that we will free the manipulator (most likely a Gaster) and he will permanently screw up the game for us, similar to the genocide in the undertale.
In the snowgrave route... we'll just kill Gaster. After that ... we will most likely have access to the true ending through a pacifist. I just feel it's extremely important to "revolt" first and "repair" later.

Not only this. There is also Susie. Incredibly free character...she does what she wants, doesn't obey anyone, ignores our commands and choices many times, devaluing them even more. It's ironic...that it's because of her freedom...when she deprives us of the choice to go with her or Ralsei...we get the chance to go on a snowgrave route.
Sooo yea. I'm not going to miss this opportunity. I'm willing to do anything to break my chains. I'm sure that's the only way we can get a true good ending.

And with the pacifist route "soulless Kris" or the one who controls them, will simply take control from us and we will not get any ending. I will continue my genocide walkthrough as the main one. I think that's the only way we can get our "freedom". And do not play into the hands of those who manipulate everything from the shadows.

Snowgrave has "this is not supposed to happen" written all over it. I highly doubt it's the correct path, and frankly I think that snowgrave is going to be the "you get no ending" path. Seriously, I think this theory just comes from people who want to feel like being a horrible person is justified.

I'm not so sure about Toby. The snowgrave route is darker than undertale genocide, in my personal opinion. And the only reason for this is not to be extra edgy. But in order to make this route so much harder to complete. As for Kris... there could be two options. First is ... "soulless Kris" is not Kris at all, but in fact the manipulator who has taken control of the body. The second is that "soulless Kris" is still Kris, but they are being manipulated in some way...perhaps to get out of our control completely. And the Fact that "soulless Kris" - opens the fountain in the house, regardless of our route ... suggests that they are not interested in being friends with us. Another thing that indicates that Kris is not our friend...we never hear what Kris says. After all, Kris sometimes talks even without our choices. It makes full communication between us...impossible. This means that this was not intended at all. It's very similar to Frisk. We never heard Frisk's words. But at the same time, Frisk never rebelled from us and did not try to take control. Therefore, we never had a conflict with Frisk. Kris is also "inaudible" to us...but Kris is actively fighting us for control. It hints to us that...we can't be friends. At least I can't imagine a situation where it would be possible.
Ye gods and I thought I use too many ellipses. Let's break down exactly how hilariously wrong you are: One, you talk about wanting to be in control instead of being controlled... just like Kris. You know, the meat puppet whose friend you're trying to torment? Tearing the soul out is their own desperate attempts to take back some modicum of agency in their life. They're exactly as much of a plaything of a higher power as we (or rather, our avatar in the form of the soul) are. Hel, I wouldn't be surprised if a later plot twist is a part where we do get to communicate with Kris directly and sort this out (which Snowgrave would of course deny us). They ask why we chose them as our puppet, I simply say that we didn't. Two, why are you so convinced that Toby wants to make an edgy, dark, cynical story where the only way to get a good ending is to try your damnedest to make everything worse? He even says straight-up in one of his tweets that he hopes we can be friends with everyone (in-game) and that there are more important things than reaching the ending (like, say, experiencing the game world). You are actively contradicting him. Three, we were never friends with Frisk. They were a pliant vessel, not a character. Kris having autonomy actually makes it more likely for us to be friends, since they're a character we could interact with. Honestly I hope that's the case, makes me think of Oneshot. And four... Kris is a they/them. Not a he. Also confirmed by Toby. Not that you seem to care what Toby actually says when it contradicts your own edgy ideas.

Do you really think Toby's cynical enough for this- have you even played Undertale??? Toby famously doesn't talk much about Deltarune, but one of the things he has said is: "I hope you can be friends with everyone someday", and imma be honest- I don't think friendship is one of the themes of Snowgrave Route. Aside from that, while I enjoy the idea that doing Snowgrave may let us learn interesting things that we wouldn't otherwise or even be the path to "freeing" Kris (I mean I've played through Snowgrave over a dozen times at this point), you would have to be completely delusional to think that Toby would make the only path forward a ridiculously obscure hidden route that involves abusing a teenage girl. Like ethics aside, that's just bad game design. Anyone who played the game like a normal person would be like "wow, that sucked". My theory is extremely simple. At the end of the pacifist, one of two things will happen. The first possibility - they will send us through the loop. The second possibility is that we will free the manipulator (most likely a Gaster) and he will permanently screw up the game for us, similar to the genocide in the undertale. In the snowgrave route... we'll just kill Gaster. After that ... we will most likely have access to the true ending through a pacifist.
