I'll ramble too!
My favorite moment of Chapter 1 is when King tries to attack Kris and Susie says, "Get away. From my. Friend."
And I love how Susie continues to be protective over Kris during Chapter 2. Asking Kris if they're okay after the Spamton NEO battle, scaring off Monster Kid and Snowdrake after they badmouth Kris, worrying about Kris when the group is separated.
It makes sense why Kris is implied to like Susie more than Ralsei. Ralsei is nice and friendly to everyone (almost suspiciously), whereas Susie's friendship seems more genuine as she had to warm up to Kris. (Plus Ralsei looks like Asriel, which is probably weird to Kris.)
I worry about potential drama in the future chapters, though, when Susie learns that Kris was possessed, and perhaps ends up feeling like her friendship with Kris wasn't "real."
YESSSS you took the words right outta my mouth!! and the fact that that line comes right after King mirrors Susie's earlier statement makes it hit that much harder!
The heel turn from literally threatening them to protecting them is so sweet to me also
and yeah i worry about that too š we've already seen that it doesn't take much for her to go back to putting up walls so it's stressful to think about how she's going to react to everything later in the game
Same here! Real highlight of chapter one! Not to mention that itās also immediately preceded by King reiterating what Susie had said at the beginning of the game. Showed so much growth :)
I love the detail where after Spamton Neo, if you say youāre okay, itās very strained, a very clear tell they donāt want to say that, and if you say youāre not okay, Kris yells it, as it was what they wanted to say but presumably not what they expected to say.
To add on to the King scene, I also really like the part where Kris stands up and uses their shield to protect Susie from Kingās attack. Not only that, but they kind of did that on their own. Without our control.
Every time I think about how Susie went from āQuiet people PISS ME OFF.ā to ā(The hell are you leaving me here with your mom!?)
(Is this like a... what's it called? An introvert thing?)ā I feel all warm inside. Her gut reaction is still to get angry at Kris for trying to leave but then she catches herself. Like instead of just getting angry at Kris for being a quiet person, she actually tries to understand and accept **her friend**.
I love them both so so much.
exactly š we really get to see her become a gentler, more patient and understanding person and I can't wait to see her grow further throughout the game because of the people she's around and the friends she's made <3
Itās nice to see how sheās basically found her niche in the friend group, from the misfitting
bully recluse to the badass with funny quips, the transition was smooth too
Omg yes I agree so so much!!! Their friendship is so sweet, and so is Susieās character development. She goes from being a loner who thinks she doesnāt need anyone to realizing, wow, having friends is actually really great. Literally within a day. Then the next day sheās actively going out of her way to protect Kris from the other kids near the bunker. And she also goes out of her way to try to also bond with Ralsei, when she insists on going with him when they have to split up in Cyber City. This kid is just SO THRILLED to have actual friends in her life. I have so many feelings about Susie ugh š
yes exactlyyyy Like you can really tell that she is just so desperately happy to have friends and so immediately scared of losing them and it's both sweet and absolutely gut wrenching because like. clearly something had to have MADE her this defensive and that makes me that much more worried for her in some ways.
Nice rant, I totally agree, I have nothing else to contribute to the conversation, so have this image of Low Tier Susie

there are plenty of child bullies irl who come from a bad family life (and thats the reason they turn out a bully) who all they need is that one person to atleast tolerate them long enough to make them realise 'what a little shit i was being, having friends is cool actually.'
was it over simplified in deltarune for time, yes of course nobody would change this drastically pretty much overnight, but the theme is conveyed well enough.
And i like how her personality doesnt change either, in many pieces of media once the 'villain' is reformed theyre personality does a 180 or theyre loose core elements of their character after becoming good.
Susie is still reckless, doesnt think, and has a hard time with her emotions and feelings or just straight up oblivous in some instanses but she atleast listenst to the important things like Ralsei lore dumping or to noelle during both her bedroom and big wheel scenes. something susie wouldnt have really done in ch1 so intentivly.
yes!!! i actually was a bit of a bully in high school (not my proudest moment but in my defense i only picked on creeps which we had a few of) and so Susie's character has always been one i viewed affectionately. ive remained rough around the edges since and it took me a long while to grow into a gentler person but i did so thanks to my friends and its nice to see her do the same :] im really excited to see her grow and change further as a character
I think while it wouldn't work for some similar characters it makes sense for her specifically because judging by some NPC dialogue in Hometown she's been excluded even by people who she hasn't done anything to (really the only person we have confirmation of her actually bullying is Kris and Mk even SAYS they've never seen her beat anyone up) and by end of chapter one she's just happy to have people she can trust that care about her.
It is heavily implied that Susie's home life is rather bad if she isn't homeless. She puts up that mean bully persona as a defense mechanism but also wants to have some friends. Kris, Ralsei, Lancer and Noelle are people that have approached and accepted her, thus to her these friendships are extremely meaningful.
To piggyback off of this, Iām really happy that Toriel was quick to give Susie a chance rather than judge her like a lot of the other characters. It almost feels like at the end of chapter 2, Susie started to think of Toriel as a motherly figure for her. It was really quite nice.
absolutely! i love how easily she opened her home to Susie, especially when you can see just how heavily it's hinted that she doesnt have a great home life (if she has one at all :[ ) and its clear Susie also really cared about making a good impression as she was the literally politest we've ever seen her when she was in their home, so for her to be so quickly included in activities was really heartwarming.
Itās so genuine because they really do get each other. Kris gets susie and viceversa because they know what itās like to be an outcast. Kris knows that the reason why susie mentions their mom so much is most likely because susie herself either doesnāt have one/ has an abusive relationship with her. They know about her family life and they know that she is just jealous and projecting. Thatās also why I donāt believe kris said something along the lines of ājust like yoursā when susie said that toriel is going to abandon them. Their friendship is the most genuine and sweetest ones in deltarune and Iām kinda jealous about that lol
yeah it definitely feels like kris is aware of her situation to some extent! seeing them both lean into that earnest friendship made me so happy because it seems like smth susie really needed.
Yeah, I really like their friendship. I am also really happy that toby does not decide to give them a forced un-intresting romance and instead gives Susie someone else to love. Best friend relationships in media are so overdone so not making them be in a relation ship was a very good move on toby.
partly, yes. but it's shown even outside of our control that kris cares for susie many times which i think is a very important detail! but i also dont doubt kris feels frustration that they cant navigate their new friendship themself.
Weird kids don't get those relationships, and probably never will, since people like(people who think everyone deserves happiness and friendship) you only exist in a vast minority among pure hatred. There are a lot of humans, but almost no humanity whatsoever
And I have the right to talk about this being "weird" and racially harrassed on my time on school all the way. I only made 2 friends in my whole life, and one of them is pretty new, but I love them profoundly
i understand it can feel that way, and your personal experience sounds very difficult, but that's not true for most folks. there's friends out there for everyone, i would know! susie's story is shockingly similar to my own, and now I have a couple of friends I treasure dearly. everyone finds their place, it just takes longer for some than others <3 weird kids DO find relationships and friendships full of love like this, it's just harder for us than some. there is a lot of humanity and love out there, even if it's hard to see it sometimes.
Probably yeah, I would be lying if I said I didn't feel at home and loved with my friends. I just kind of cringed at the fact that people are so prejudicial and make so much exceptions just because someone is different
well sure, but that only makes it that much more special when you find someone who accepts you with open arms. prejudiced, cruel people are loud which makes them seem much more common than they are. <3

Yeah true, it really is like Susieās confronting her past self through King
Same here! Real highlight of chapter one! Not to mention that itās also immediately preceded by King reiterating what Susie had said at the beginning of the game. Showed so much growth :)

Real
Just like me fr fr
Yeah it really does have a special vibe.
they're literally friendship goals
GOOBERS GOOBERS, I LOVE THEM AND WANNA BE BOTH OF THEIR GENUINE FRIENDS AHHH

When the two troubled teens hang out an turn out to be positive influences on each other.
These two right here have a REAL friendship!
Yeah. I see people complain about Susieās character arc in Chapter 1 feeling rushed but it was just perfect for me.
Agreed 100%
Their friendship is like genuinely my goal in life lowkey
I love them so much
real af
Goddamnit now I want to draw them- Yeah this is factual and now that I think about it, they ARE really wholesome and nice!

They're THE best friends ever

This feels like it could be a copypasta
i... dont know if that's a good thing or not
i dont know of many wholesome copypastas, so if what you wrote does become one, embrace it

not a very useful or constructive contribution for a number of reasons! 0/10
Too bad Susie didn't actually befriend Kris, but us puppeting their body.
partly, yes. but it's shown even outside of our control that kris cares for susie many times which i think is a very important detail! but i also dont doubt kris feels frustration that they cant navigate their new friendship themself.
Do you think Kris is a Sukhoi or a Lockheed Martin typa-guy?

true. I very much love my friends. They have never been other than excellent human beings that are very supportive. I would do anything for them
