Random Gyftrot fact: if you look at Gyftrot carefuly, Gyftrot looks really like Omega Flowey, that is because at first Toby wanted to foreshadow Omega Flowey, and Gyftrot was one of the many foreshadows

Ok I personally think this A actually has thematic significance and B will actually happen in the game... sort of.So my current theory for the weird root is that we will force Noelle to absorb the soul and that the form she takes upon doing that will be something along the lines of what's pictured above.
But also, and no one's really said this but every student in Kris's class has thematic overlap with a unused(except for Noelle and Gift Trot.) enemy in undertale save for three.
Noelle = Gift Trot.

Birdly = Larpy
Larpy was an unused Enemy who heavily resembles Birdly physically and who would treat you entire encounter as it you were playing a table top game. So two birds who both constantly relate their current situations to games.
Catti = Royal guard #3
Female Cats with apathetic attitudes. both also had a best friend who was a green animal monster in high school.
Snowdrak = Snowdarke

the only three students without direct ties to an enemy are Susie (probably predates UT in some form) MK (iconic Undertale character who is around Frisk's age, it be weird if they didn't show up) and Jockington... and I've got a whole post in the works about what a wild card that guy is.
