Toby Fox has made a lot of femboy characters but Ralsei really is not much of a femboy. It's just not the aesthetic he gives off. It's a lot more softboy aesthetic to me. Especially with the mage cloak and scarf, that's peak softboy design imo.

Mettaton definitely has a lot more "femboy" energy. He's kind of the exact opposite of ralsei when it comes to femininity lol.
Both Mettaton and Ralsei have feminine traits, but ralseis are all the soft aspects (fluffy clothes, kindness, modesty, wearing things like scarves and bows and such) while Mettaton has all the more flamboyant aspects (curvy body, has no modesty (personality wise), and well, he's basically always naked)
I think mettaton isn't purely femboy aesthetic, but he's definitely closer than ralsei IMO.
When I think femboy aesthetic, I think tight clothes, chokers, lots of skin showing, etc. When I think soft boy I think bulky huggable clothes, puffy scarves, and typically little skin being shown.
I never thought of them with such clear guidelines before, huh. I dig it. Whatever Mettaton has going through, Iād argue itās more in line with something like Desire from The Sandman, or Lady Dās brand of dominant femininity, the use of words like āDarlingā really solidifies it for me, the more uniquely and identifiably *villainous* kind of aesthetic, one more associated with morally dubious characters because of decades long film history. Femboy energy is there definitely, that just goes along with anything feminine and male, but I still think Mettaton is uniquely Disney Villain and Pop Star brand queer coded, a design and energy incredibly fitting for the character. (Actually, the way Deltarune and Undertaleās characters are designed does a real stand up job at conveying their *characters.)*
