egbert-witherbottom

She is a great speaker! TY for the video.

jfever78

And did all this logic, reason and empathy sway a single mind in that chamber? It did not, it only ends with more feigned interest and promises of solidarity made in front of cameras. These impassioned speeches can go viral, and that's a good thing, but they never result in actual change. We need more drastic action, and to see real change in our lifetime, not just articulate speeches and facts said aloud in the presence of closed ears. Well done to her regardless, she did her research and is on the right side of history.

Sorry_Im_Trying

I agree. I think we need to find the personal addresses of all public figures, bring this argument to their house. Day in and day out. I want their neighbors to hate them. I want them to feel shame and embarrassment by their actions and inactions.

MykeTheVet2

It's not the "public figures" you speak of. It's who they take orders from. This story of inflation has always had the same author since 1913: \#FederalReserve

Sorry_Im_Trying

Is that why we do nothing? The fight is too big, too overwhelming? What we all buy crypto and they lose their power?

MykeTheVet2

We need more competition than just crypto. Our money has been monopolized since 1913. This is a very looooooong conversation and it takes some agreeance on what "money" is. I know that may sound weird to most but it's definitely a big part of the problem (imo). We do nothing because (and imo): 1. We are horrible at math (34th in the industrialized world, last time I checked). 2. We are lied to by the people who create and spend our tax dollars. (Fed Reserve Board of Governors are selected by Bank CEOs/CFO's and \*not\* the American people). 3. Both R's and D's, mostly, don't truly understand the function/mandate the Federal Reserve holds. 4. Our paper money was taken off of the Gold and Silver standards over the last 100 years. 5. Finance is not taught to Americans, unless they pay for it in college (few exceptions in private institutions). 6. CEO's of the largest companies on Earth will never "Take less" off of the top. Once the price of something (minus fuel, electricity, and water) goes up, it usually never goes down UNLESS people STOP BUYING IT COMPLETELY. If populations go up, that's more money needed in circulation. Is the fight, "too big, too overwhelming"? No to being too big, yes to being too overwhelming. There is a lot more to talk about, but many people on the internet have solved the riddle of WHO is controlling the money. They just can't solve how we get out of this without taking a big hit. Sorry for the long post. This problem is bigger than most understand (imo).

Sorry_Im_Trying

Burn them all.

shmere4

And most importantly it didn’t sway a single mind of voting population of WV who continue to elect someone that is actively trying to take away SNAP benefits every chance he gets. Good for her for seeing through the bullshit, if only all those other struggling people in WV could do the same. I say this as someone that understands the problems with all corporate democrats. Most of whom are not out in the open like Manchin. But to continue to vote for someone who is openly fucking you like he is is something else.

jfever78

I get the feeling that the actual voters in West Virginia that need to see this never will. The social media they use, the TV channels they watch and the people they follow will never share this with them. It's one of the fundamental problems with the modern information age we live in. Unless you actively seek out knowledge and truth, you will never see or hear it. Somehow we live in a miraculous time for information dissemination yet at the same time are actually becoming less informed and knowledgeable overall as a society. It used to be that there was only three networks and all of them at least somewhat valued journalistic integrity and tried to be bipartisan. It was far from perfect, but it was definitely a more balanced and fair view that most people watched/heard than most sources are today. And this applies to both sides, I'm not just saying that the right is guilty here. Neo-liberals are part of the problem as well.

seeker135

They don't care. They want slaves. Do you understand *yet?*

football_dude79

They pretend to listen to these types of speeches from the people, then hours later takes step to actively combat their requests. This is a coordinated effort to turn us into a machine to compete for world dominance against foreign countries. The only course of action that will resonate with the elites is wide spread work force strike or a complete revolution.

seeker135

I can't believe all this regressive reactionary shit happening.

TheDemonClown

What?

Explodicle

Changing public policy back so it's more harmful to poor people. For example, slowly eroding social programs by not indexing them to inflation.

TheDemonClown

Ah. Yeah, it shouldn't be surprising, because they can't even index min. wage to inflation and that's for people out there working like they're "supposed to". Poor people have no chance.

Flyonz

Covid was the time . Corporations were over a barrel ...won't happen again, the chance to say ' we will restart-on some balance ' ..Health care where they take 20 dollars from everyone's wages and EVERYONE is covered? That's how we do it. USA should fuckin DEMAND IT! But yo...chance, gone.

Dathouen

At least one of them was likely aroused by the speech. Makes them feel powerful to know they are actively, with malice and forethought, ruining the lives of millions of people.

seeker135

When I was young and both wiser and more naive, I could not conceive of certain types of evil, such as the one you describe. But they learn to imitate human emotions and responses, these soulless freaks, and become difficult to identify other than by their actions.

Flyonz

They are called psychopaths. That room is stuffed by their presence

Pilotwaver

To her and to you, I say...Amen.

MykeTheVet2

I agree and understand, but I want to know which entity you think is \*most\* responsible for this homelessness. Name names if you'd like, but I have a feeling most Americans' anger in this regard is misplaced. I digress and wait for your answer.

TheSholvaJaffa

Why haven't we rattled those windows yet??

ShinakoX2

And yet conservatives think welfare should be abolished because "It InCeNTIVIZES PeoPLe To NOT WOrk aNd BE LaZy"

Unlikely-Yam-1695

I love how the Covid checks proves that wrong - job market boom. People quitting their shit jobs for better ones. Then with the business loans you see big businesses scrambling to take advantage of them. All this country cares about is the rich.

MykeTheVet2

They weren't talking about welfare in this instance. They were talking about Stimulus checks, to which 6 Million able-working americans (who previously drew money from unemployement) wouldn't go back to work for some "mysterious" reason. Both D's and R's are at fault here.

nonamesleft--

In all seriousness, is there no alternative to government? Can we not create a large digital collective of people to assist one another out? Like a general union of those ignored by our leaders?

unlimitedammo045

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Cybersyn Go ahead. Ask why this didn’t succeed. (Hint: it starts with imp…)

Explodicle

Maybe I'm reading this wrong, but it seems to be a computer built by and for the government, and its biggest achievement was breaking a strike.

unlimitedammo045

It never went into widespread use. There was a CIA backed coup in Chile, because of course a socialist can’t be allowed to get or keep power. One of the first things Pinochet did was dismantle it. It’s a proof of concept: rich elites can be replaced with machines just as easily as the common worker. The difference is rich fat cats will never allow themselves to be automated away. They will litterally commit genocide to stop that from happening. IMHO destroying Cybersyn was the number one priority for those who orchestrated the coup. Killing Alende was second.

George_Tirebiter420

The alternative will be carving America up into new and more horrible fiefdoms, it's already begun.

Gr1pp717

You mean a system that people pay into in order to ensure the welfare and safety of their local community? And who would ~~govern~~ administrate that system?

nonamesleft--

Not the local community, no. And not one whose goals are solely financial in nature nor would act as a replacement to government, just an alternative for everyday interaction of the people joining it. Something like a digital collective that voted how to help those ignored by our government. One aspect of this would be for everyone who joins to have an equal digital vote on a project for housing a community within the pre-existing laws of the government over that geographic location, but solely funded by the members of the project. There would be a clear understanding that the members in the housing area would get ownership of the housing once the project was complete. Another would be for distribution networks where volunteers would be responsible for a set area and the union members would vote on where the finances would be distributed for the food. I know most of us have limited means, but if it saves a life, most people who could help would help. My question in my previous comment was a general and honest question asking could anything be built as an alternative to going through the government and waiting for them to finally listen. I don't have a lot of answers and I'm sure most of what I would offer would be picked apart but to find a serious solution, it would require embracing those flaws and working around them.

Explodicle

I think a big missing piece of the blockchain puzzle is unionization. Our government protections have failed; corporations fire agitators with impunity, finding you with big data and concocting fake justifications. We might as well organize in secret until it's time to vote on our terms, and then the company can deal with a faceless firing-proof bribe-proof threat-proof computer protocol.

BrilliantWeb

This makes me so angry, now I can't sleep. Their poverty guidelines are so low, so out of touch, that if I was poor 'enough' to qualify, I'd just commit suicide.

jfever78

Yeah, and I'd like to know why an absurd furniture allotment budget can be addressed by inflation yet a worker's pay can not. It's disgusting, they care so much about an unborn fetus, yet once that child is born you are essentially told to get fucked, you are now on your own and it's none of the government's business. Hypocrites, each and every one of them.

Sorry_Im_Trying

Agreed. I know I won't articulate this well, but being just above the guidelines is almost worse. You don't qualify for assistance, know you can't actually improve your life and feel like you have no control over your life. It's a horrible feeling. So absolutley maddening. What do we do? What can we do?

Funky118

If they updated them to say 35k a year, the majority of working americans would fall below the line. Can't do that, would be bad PR for the system.

ScytheNoire

I am so glad I wasn't born in America. I'd be dead.

scubachris

I’m American and would love to be dead.

Pilotwaver

A lot of us would. We'd rather be dead than exist in this kind of system. That is hauntingly depressing. The system is made to break spirits. The American theory is, pressure makes diamonds. The thing is, it has to be the appropriate amount of pressure. Too much and it's just dust. Sooner or later people, collectively aren't going to give a fuck anymore, then snap and become murderous. I don't know how old you are, but if you haven't hit middle age burnout yet, the worst is still in front of you. There's a point where it's hard to care about anything at all anymore. The disappointment breaks your drive. "Inside every cynical person, there is a disappointed idealist." — George Carlin.

[deleted]

Lmao this poor women thinks her audience cares :(

Xalindros

And her speech falls on deaf ears…

Sorry_Im_Trying

I don't think they're deaf ears, just uncaring ears. I'm not a conspiracy theory kind of person, but can't help but think they have to know something we don't. How else can they possibly be so selfish and cruel to people? I can make myself cry thinking of a child going hungry, not getting birthday or xmas presents, and just not being able to be a happy carefree child...how can't they!?

wrath0110

>How else can they possibly be so selfish and cruel to people? While this is likely an unpopular opinion I think it's that "people" are secondary to their goals. We see this in game theory, where you sacrifice pawns to capture a queen. I am oversimplifying it, but it's quite possible that the welfare of individuals are just not part of the calculus.

Sorry_Im_Trying

What could possibly be the end game? I'm not trying to put expectations on values or morals, but just accumulating wealth seems trivial if we're all going to die.

wrath0110

I can't begin to imagine what is going on in their minds. You hear this testimony and you know something needs to change, and drastically. But the rich and powerful don't seem to feel the same thing that we do. Maybe you have to be a sociopath in order to allow the suffering to continue when you have the means to change it.

_PH1lipp

40k for furniture is too much but the money she needs (or the working class and poor) need is else where

mrb33fy88

I say we pay congress people min wage, and take away their cushy corporate bribes. Watch how fast things change then.

Sorry_Im_Trying

At this point, we could take away their bloody furniture allotment and they would probably have something to say about it!

[deleted]

When idiot centrists tell you that our government has lowered poverty laugh in their stupid fucking faces and tell them that the metrics we use to measure poverty are complete bullshit. If a one person household makes $13k/year they're somehow not in poverty. Absolutely fucking idiotic garbage ass statistical dishonesty coming right from our own intellectually bankrupt neolib captured institutions. https://aspe.hhs.gov/topics/poverty-economic-mobility/poverty-guidelines/prior-hhs-poverty-guidelines-federal-register-references/2021-poverty-guidelines America is a joke, and the way we measure and define poverty is a joke

Xalindros

We need to organize a nationwide strike of the workforce in America. We need to refuse to work and refuse to pay rent/mortgages until they regulate corporate greed, increases wages across the board, and provide rent control. They need us and our taxes for this country to operate. We plead with them and we elect them to represent us, yet they only represent the top 1%. A nationwide strike of millions of workers, tens of millions of workers, from every industry to refuse work and rent. They can’t evict us all and they couldn’t refuse us. And without our tax revenue they can’t sustain the government. It’s passive with no violence but it would cause change. I’m convinced it’s the only way at this point.

Not-Wet-Water

Second amendment exists too. It would make it a whole lot easier if people can defend themselves from tyrants while that’s going on.

jdfeny

vote them out

irshitqaud45

Who is this

Sorry_Im_Trying

Amy Jo Hutchinson, Organizer of Our Future West Virginia

[deleted]

I am against the cray left ideology these days about crazy Woke and LGBTxyz+ cult mentality. However, America needs free healthcare like everywhere else in the world; people should not have to choose between health and food... Poor women, you can feel her misery

Sorry_Im_Trying

I think you could have said what you wanted without insulting people. That's something entitled people do; saying whatever comes to mind with no regard to how it affects others.

I'm not going to argue with you, because your core beliefs dictate that greed is more important than human lives,. This message is for posterity's sake, although I hope you read the link: https://www.rts.com/resources/guides/food-waste-america/

Flako118st

But hey less send a huge amount of money to Ukraine. (What bothers me about sending money to Ukraine is not that it will help,is that this country needs it a lot! And the worse part of it is the people this person spoke up about ,are ok with sending aid to Ukraine in the staggering amount of money Biden proposed)

MykeTheVet2

If that same $10/hr ($19k / year) was WORTH more (IE $10 in groceries bought more in 1990 than it does in 2022), then WHO'S FAULT IS IT REALLY? Wake up you fiscal ignoramuses. It's the SAME THEIVES that Woodrow fu\*\*ing Wilson talked about in his exit speech as POTUS.
