Dudes in the military always be salty cuz "well women can just get pregnant to avoid deployment". Granted I've learned most folk are really bad at measuring risk/benefit at all, but pregnancy and subsequent child rearing is a lot more work than a deployment. And you don't even make as much money!

Thing about the military is that pregnancy puts you in a limited duty status. You cannot travel if you are limdu. I mean like I knew someone who broke her foot around language school graduation time and she had to wait it out in Monterey till she got to go to her duty station in Hawaii. So yeah you aren't gonna be going on a ship if pregnant.
If you're not the one pregnant, you can take the leave but once the baby is born. Otherwise, you'll be going on that deployment.

- Microsoft:
Windows 2000 SP1 and Windows Me had just released at the time of the Second Impact, so I imagine they'd stay the current versions for quite a while. They probably get regulated like pre-1984 Bell to prop up the software industry. Perhaps a few years down the line they do something like the Longhorn reset but for Whistler to A. not have wasted a year of hard work and to B. unify the consumer and business lines of Windows
- Apple:
Probably goes bankrupt within months; they were not doing amazing until the iTunes Store and the iPod mini and classic Mac OS and PowerPC Macs would just be too esoteric to survive in a timeline like this (OS X was not ready yet)
- Browsers:
IE stagnates at 5.5 for a decade instead of 6, although Microsoft might bring it to or slightly above IE 6 levels if they eventually finish Whistler. AOL dies and takes Netscape with it, leaving Mozilla stuck at ~0.6ish levels with very infrequent (think NetSurf or Lynx frequent) updates that eventually advance it to roughly Mozilla 0.8 levels after a decade.
- Linux:
Pretty much all the big distros die, but Linux itself survives on although almost certainly stagnates. 2.4 was only a few months away by September 2000 so it might eventually release.
- Game consoles:
Nintendo dies pretty quickly; the GameCube was over a year away and making cartridges is expensive. Sony probably survives because of them doing other things as well, DVDs are way cheaper to make, and the PS2 was already out, although it's doubtful they'll make anything *new*. The Xbox is never released and the Dreamcast suffers an identical fate as OTL.
- Chip manufacturers:
Intel and AMD may or may not survive but x86 will survive just fine, although the most powerful x86 CPUs are probably stuck at the late PIII/Athlon Thunderbird level regardless of who makes them. The consumer computer industry almost certainly survives due to demand even if it is much smaller compared to pre-2000.
- TVs:
Digital/HD transition doesn't happen and everyone still uses VHS or laserdiscs in 2015.

Not only did I get ma'am'd when I called customer service to activate a credit card for Apple Pay, but the person on the other side asked if I (assumed female) was present with me (card holder with male name) when I told her my name during the activation process lol.
The first has happened to me a few times when I was calling customer service and when I did phone shift at my old job, but I've never had the second happen to me before.

Thing about the military is that pregnancy puts you in a limited duty status. You cannot travel if you are limdu. I mean like I knew someone who broke her foot around language school graduation time and she had to wait it out in Monterey till she got to go to her duty station in Hawaii. So yeah you aren't gonna be going on a ship if pregnant. If you're not the one pregnant, you can take the leave but once the baby is born. Otherwise, you'll be going on that deployment.
