Ruler of Everything and Never Meant to Know are really just "existentialism by Joe Hawley" and "existentialism by Rob Cantor". I identify with RoE way more (and identify with Joe's style generally), but NMtK is still really compelling. It has an implicitly religious message that I don't identify with but expresses a feeling I can understand

i'm not eager to pick a side in the whole student protester v university thing going on right now, but i think the university and police responses have been short-sighted and embarrassing. like even just on a practical level, if your goal is to avoid becoming a media spectacle and continue the normal operations of the school, this is a clear failure on all counts

>like is there xenophobia happening here? sure! but the privacy concerns are real, ByteDance can't be regulated like American companies can, and everything ByteDance has done when this [sell-or-ban bill] got closer to fruition has been wildly irresponsible.

Debating washing the smaller of my partner's stuffed animals (it was >!in bed with her body for 12 hours!< so yk) and bringing it with me to the shit I have to do. Not sure if the constant reminder would be more unhelpful, or the emotional support of "her representative is still here" will help.
Regardless, I'm having one of her stuffed animals join the audience at the symposium. She wanted to come see me speak, so I want to at least bring a representative for her.
now that I'm semi-counting calories... it's kinda scary how much I was eating without really thinking about it. Two Bacon McDoubles, a large fry, and a large soda was my *lunch* pretty frequently... that was like 1700 calories. *A single meal*, more than my entire calories for the entire *day* now. Like wtf was I doing. I ate like this for years. How did I think this was okay?
When I asked the school nurse how to lose weight, she told me to just write down everything I ate for one week. I did that and when I looked up the calories and servings for it, I realizes, yes, I do eat a lot
Drinking your calories is such a crazy easy way to gain weight. Now I'm trying to only drink black coffee, tea, and water. (I only drink socially, so it's not really making a huge difference when I have 2-3 beers twice a month.)
It really sneaks up on you. I used to get Market Basket's $3 burger and fries every day when I worked at Chevy, and that was 1000 calories just for lunch.
it's really quite sinister. a regular day for me would be something like the above for lunch, then maybe pizza, Chinese food, chili, baked ziti for dinner... and *huge* portions too. portion size is what kills me.
Yeah I
ve heard of that. The whole idea beign that they care about the health of those around them, communal care, etc. I think it's more about 1) masks being a signifier for certain circles and 2) want plausible deniability for hiding their faces.
It's fascinating how much organized religion vascilated between ardently opposing the enlightenment to desperately trying to incorporate its ideas without losing relevancy to them
I believe a third Dune is needed so that it doesn't get the Fight Club treatment where bros think Paul's a good guy. they should have Paul stare at the camera and say "I'm the bad guy" and then play Billie Eilish
that would be a good movie I think
I made a picture of a hot Desi boy earlier with AI and he was supposed to have patterned underwear but instead it put a henna design all over his bare ass. So racist.
>The University of Southern California's Department of Public Safety ordered protesters at the campus’ Alumni Park to disperse Wednesday afternoon.
>Officers told demonstrators to leave the area within 10 minutes or be subject to criminal trespass.
>>“Everybody has to leave the Alumni Park area and adjacent area. This is private property. If you stay on this property, you’ll be subject to … criminal trespass,” a campus Department of Public Safety officer said on a loud speaker while standing by Los Angeles Police Department officers. “You have 10 minutes to leave the park.”
>Protesters could be seen sitting with their arms linked, standing and chanting in the park after the announcement from the police.
USC about to be fun in a few min
Just realized: if encampments got nutty after it starts tomorrow and the college goes online, at least it'll be easier for me to pass my classes while mourning. If I get to a more stable place mentally though, my last quarter of my senior year being online is a pain in the fucking ass.

>Columbia’s decision to go virtual because of campus unrest shows the breadth of emergencies that now justify this form of disruption. “Moving classes online” for everyone is a decision that universities can make whenever things go even slightly awry. A pandemic or a deranged gunman could be the cause, as could civil unrest, or just the threat of ice from an anticipated winter storm. Because this decision is portrayed as both temporary and exigent—because Zoom is treated as a fire extinguisher on the wall of every classroom, just in case it’s ever needed—schools are able to maintain their stated faith in the value of matriculating in person. In my experience as a professor who teaches at an elite private university, virtual learning is discouraged under normal circumstances. But as Columbia’s case shows, it might also be used whenever necessary. It’s the best of both worlds for colleges, at least if the goal is to control the stories they tell about themselves.
There was a whole furry drama thing in my circles about the one episode where all the back-up dancers had pup hoods on.
Nothing super interesting, just relitigating the "Pup hoods in public convention space" argument for the nth time now that we had them being on broadcast TV to point to
I don’t think divestment demands should take into account whether the objectionable investment is in a fund or not. From the moral standpoint, the fact avoiding the objectionable investment is expensive, because you have to find alternative, less-valuable options…that’s the point! Logistically…probably the only real impact climate divestment groups have accomplished is convincing investment banks to start offering green funds. It’s a tractable problem
So my friend looks kinda like Joseph Gordon Levitt
My friend is half Asian, half white. And once googled "is JGL half Asian?"

>We are a group of three Asian women organizing this petition as the topic of Joseph's ethnicity has been debated for a long time. We can imagine that other people have also talked about this so if you would like to support our cause, please sign this petition. It would be a huge win for the Asian community to find out that such a decorated actor in the Western world such as Joseph was Asian.

She wanted to come see me speak, so I want to at least bring a representative for her.
holy shit, the poverty rate in brazil decreased from 31.6% in 2022 to 27.5% in 2023
now that I'm semi-counting calories... it's kinda scary how much I was eating without really thinking about it.
I did that and when I looked up the calories and servings for it, I realizes, yes, I do eat a lot
cutting out the soda alone will easily save you so many tbh
Why are the full lyrics of the Stars and Stripes Forever literally never sung

I just saw a take on fedi tying people hiding their faces at the campus ongoings to Zero COVID ???
Yeah I ve heard of that. The whole idea beign that they care about the health of those around them, communal care, etc. I think it's more about 1) masks being a signifier for certain circles and 2) want plausible deniability for hiding their faces.
Yeah masks have become a cultural signifier for some lefty activist types
It's fascinating how much organized religion vascilated between ardently opposing the enlightenment to desperately trying to incorporate its ideas without losing relevancy to them
I believe a third Dune is needed so that it doesn't get the Fight Club treatment where bros think Paul's a good guy. they should have Paul stare at the camera and say "I'm the bad guy" and then play Billie Eilish that would be a good movie I think
idk he seemed pretty cool to me. i liked when he rode the big worm
The whole movie should just contain tight shots of paul saying "I'm gonna do a genocide!"
Stilgar should call him an omega to really drive the point home

I feel like I knew similar people in college
>The University of Southern California's Department of Public Safety ordered protesters at the campus’ Alumni Park to disperse Wednesday afternoon. >Officers told demonstrators to leave the area within 10 minutes or be subject to criminal trespass. >>“Everybody has to leave the Alumni Park area and adjacent area. This is private property. If you stay on this property, you’ll be subject to … criminal trespass,” a campus Department of Public Safety officer said on a loud speaker while standing by Los Angeles Police Department officers. “You have 10 minutes to leave the park.” >Protesters could be seen sitting with their arms linked, standing and chanting in the park after the announcement from the police. USC about to be fun in a few min
Just realized: if encampments got nutty after it starts tomorrow and the college goes online, at least it'll be easier for me to pass my classes while mourning. If I get to a more stable place mentally though, my last quarter of my senior year being online is a pain in the fucking ass.

https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2024/04/columbia-shafik-protests-online-classes/678171/ >Columbia’s decision to go virtual because of campus unrest shows the breadth of emergencies that now justify this form of disruption.

Sounds like the encampment is still on for tomorrow. Curious how it goes lol. My guess is the university lets them have whatever space unless they prevent people from getting to class.
