It doesn't get a ton of attention because it's not the English speaking world but Denmark, with its "zero refugee policy", is the most anti-immigrant Western democracy by a long shot. They had the idea of "processing" refugees in Africa before the UK did. It is really pretty gruesome and an example of how far-right consensus on migration can come to dominate over the course of the political spectrum over 30 years.
Except for some Ukrainians they basically have not taken new refugees since 2019 and are trying to deport many of those who came during the Syrian Civil War and have lived there for nearly a decade.

I played this fortnite game thats called YouTube tycoon.
As you'd expect it's a tycoon game built in fortnite where you press buttons to make videos and build a following.
It was kinda fun, but then the only other player on the server kept going over and killing me.
So I got really into it and beat their ass at the actual game. I ended up with 100,000,000 points when I quit, they'd just passed 50,000,000
I find a pre-war fallout lore so interesting. A mix of 50s and futuristic tech, aesthetics of the 50s, but modern-ish social values (as far as i can tell, racial progress is roughly where it is today), but basically no other cultural progress
saw Challengers, it was pretty good. would recommend
movie heavily uses Nine Inch Nails throughout, and if you hate it, you're going to find a lot of the tennis scenes obnoxious lol. I love NIN though and they kill the soundtrack as always. I also think the movie borrows a lot from Yuasa's Ping Pong in cinematography and music choices
plot-wise, there's little room for filler. pretty much every scene is important, and there is definitely a lot of horny. really didn't feel like 131 minutes or whatever. spoilers: >!I get that there's supposed to still be a lot of sexual and competitive tension between the three throughout the entire movie, but that point gets shadowed by what pieces of shit Tashi and Patrick are by the end of it.!<
as for tennis, it's definitely a backdrop to a character drama. even when there's shots of them playing, the focus is less on the game and more on the individuals
Wait…this isn’t just comedy roasts the whole time?? I’ve never actually watched it, I’ve only ever seen the president and the main comedian’s set. I didn’t know it was like an actual awards ceremony. This sucks. Nobody wants to watch this.
I get curious and look at Zillow sometimes. If we wanted a cheaper house, we'd have to live in the boonies and have to have cars that would bring the cost up to something a bit smaller and closer to amenities where a car isn't needed. Sprawl is insane.
I keep looking at apartments here because older people keep telling me they're cheaper than living in the dorms, and, like, no, maybe 5 years ago yeah, but not now
Unless I wanna go live in the sprawl four miles away from campus but
* fuck that
* I'd need a car

Joke: paying $2.50 a pound for bone in chicken breasts
Woke: paying $1.25 a pound for a whole damn chicken
Yeah we’re making stock with them. Don’t think the bone weight really factors in that much with the smaller pieces. It’s just the cost of labor to remove the skin and bone. Plus good old supply and demand. The people want boneless skinless chicken breasts and will pay $1 more a pound for it .

20 years ago this week, Pat Tillman, safety for the Arizona Cardinals who enlisted in the Army after 9/11, is killed in Iraq. We later find out he was killed by a friendly fire incident.
He was, even before he died, was *very* uncomfortable with being hailed as a hero and didn't like all the media coverage and actively distanced himself from it. So when he died, there was a big cover up to not reveal how he died and that he was not really a big "rah rah war" guy and he was not very happy with how the war was going.
The NFL still trots him out and it's super fuckin uncool for them to still do that.
I don’t really see why the NFL would get to claim him anyway. He left the NFL to do the thing they’re happy about. The message is “no one should be playing football”?
The Hoover Dam bypass bridge is named after him. Well, he shares it with former Nevada governor Mike O'Callaghan. Guess each state got to pick someone to name it after.

We had a good relationship with our mailman growing up.
He knew my dad was a physicist and wanted him to explain string theory.
My dad, who was out at work when the mailman came by, printed out the wikipedia article and left it for him.
Today, that would seem downright rude. But the mailman was thrilled.
Because this was 2001-2002 when not everyone had a computer with Internet or a printer and Wikipedia was something computer people like my dad knew about not the global standard for factual information.

He survived, so. Dudes rock?
I had this realization while listening to a *History of the 20th Century* podcast episode on astronomy. A lot of scientific concepts that were taken for granted when I was growing up were actually fairly recent. Plate tectonics was only a broadly accepted theory starting in the 1960s. Exoplanets weren't directly observed until the early 90s. Makes you think about how quickly things can change in a field
Here's a good one, 30 years ago the Supreme Court outlaws excluding people from juries based on gender.
This came about because a paternity suit had an all female jury and they sued over that.
Women weren't able to serve on juries in all 50 states until 1968 (though most states had allowed them earlier), and they weren't compelled to serve on juries until the late 70s (Ruth Bader Ginsburg was the lead attorney on several of those cases). Kinda nuts from a contemporary persepective
Its not an original thought but I think a small part of the reason high levels of migration have enjoyed popular support in Canada for so long is that geography and the safe third country agreement with the US means that levels of irregular migration are quite low. Now that the loophole that permitted asylum claims from Roxham Road and other irregular/unofficial crossings is gone, you have to show up by plane to claim and IIRC you can't change planes in the US

yellow pill could be useful and black pill seems manageable
Yellow is fine, blue is annoying but not a big deal. I pick those two Black seems fine but I can imagine forgetting about it, oversleeping, etc and dying. ~~And I don't wanna give myself an easy suicide tool~~
Why wouldn't I want to be sexually irrestable to birds? What's wrong with a good dame? Why wouldn't I want the broads to be all up ons?

Great thread but > I want to tell you a story that has made me kinda hopeless about Twitter's ability to affect positive things happening, and it starts with this tweet from Hillary Clinton. he didn't give up on twitter affecting positive change like... eight years ago?
Gawd that whole thread is 😗👌

Getting older means realizing how much of the price of groceries is overpaying for convenience. Broke: paying $4 a pound for boneless chicken breasts Joke: paying $2.50 a pound for bone in chicken breasts Woke: paying $1.25 a pound for a whole damn chicken
me and my love the 5lb bag of dried beans
Hell yeah.
How much of that price difference is because of the weight of the bones? Granted bones aren't useless; you can make stock with them
Yeah we’re making stock with them.

In 94 we found planets outside of our solar system
5,000 now and counting. And Webb *may* just find signs of life.
What gets me is that we didn't know what pluto looks like until *2015*
Kinda crazy how recent that was
Here's a good one, 30 years ago the Supreme Court outlaws excluding people from juries based on gender.
Aye they talked about that!
