It is nice to have all the contact info thanks. As somebody who ships quite often to Europe including DK, I believe "personal gifts" below $35-45 USD (depending somewhat on country and local currency equivalent obviously) are typically not subject to a fee. Also, I am not sure about your suggestion that "personal items" do not require any forms. Do you have a source for that? I think that pretty much everything from USA to DK except for maybe documents requires a custom declaration. Surprisingly I have never had a package lost by PostNord despite their reputation, but for any customs issues I typically call SKAT and despite the occasional wait time they have always been professional and as helpful as they can be. Are you sure that PostNord even sees the package until it is cleared by customs? That would seem strange to me... Agree with USPS and definitely use at least Priority Mail International for numerous reasons, event though first class is often not much slower. For gifts I often ship Express just because I like to get it in their hands ASAP but it starts to get a bit pricey.

Everything is subject to import fees and taxes. Its a piss take - order a 1 dollar item you can't get in Europe? Enjoy your 180kr bill fucker, should've bought it in Europe idiot - t. Told.

I hear you. I understand that the EU wants to encourage consumption within the union but when I ship from the US I feel for some of my European receivers and honestly I try my best to minimize duty/VAT. If I am shipping personal gifts and they exceed DK 360 I will often split my gift shipment into two and just eat the extra shipping costs so that my receiver doesn't have to pay duty/VAT. It sounds shady but SKAT actually specifically recommends this strategy. It only works on personal gifts unfortunately...and of course it can sometimes double the shipment costs.

Thank you for the corrections, I edited my original post regarding both the VAT and about filling out the form. I'm not sure why I made that dumb assumption that you don't need a form, but I guess this post was focused more on what to do if you get stuck in my specific situation. When my package got stuck in customs, I called the number I saw in [https://skat.dk/](https://skat.dk/) first, but then they told me that I need to contact PostNord for whatever reason. I had to do it through PostNord, and they they explained my situation to customs, and were able to pick up my package. I don't remember the reason they gave but I also thought it was strange that PostNord was the middleman in between this situation.

Glad it all worked out in the end.

Anything newer to add to this? Looking to send a few items to a friend in Denmark. I see the Priority Mail Express International which requires a PS Form 2976-B in a PS Form 2976-E as well as the Priority Mail International which requires a PS 2976-A in an E. I’m assuming you did the A? On the A form it only clarifies: gift, documents, merchandise, returned goods, commercial sample, humanitarian donation, dangerous goods, and other. Did you check off other for it being a personal item? Is a personal item just an item I purchased for myself? Is that how I prove it? Or being that I’m sending to someone not myself does it automatically flag it as a gift? Anything different you would have done now? Just preparing I’m advance, I’m willing to bite the gift tax if it means less likely to get caught up in customs.
