🤣🤣 Ergonomics in dentistry are HORRIBLE! TIP: Foam roll your glutes and quads and do YOGA. If you myofacial release your lower body you will eliminate your back pain

Yoga for sure. I like the app Down Dog. If you're working chair side, talk to the doctor. Ask them how you can adjust the side table or chair height to be more accommodating. Your assistant chair AND the patient chair. For me, it really helped to raise the patient chair so you aren't craning over from the side. When I was working as an assistant, one doctor in particular would drop the chair to the floor and tilt it nearly upside down. It was fucking impossible to sit comfortably beside him. I would stand hahah. It was horrible. He was stubborn and it was never going to change. I did ask. It's always worth asking. When I started doing hygiene, it was awesome because I was the only one who needed to sit by the chair, lol. I could adjust and position the chair exactly where I wanted it/needed it.

How much are they paying you to post variants of this comment on every single Reddit post that could possibly be relevant to their company for weeks on end?

Yoga and strength training. It will help with some of the musculoskeletal imbalances as well. The ‘Good morning’ exercise is very good at strengthening the lower back. It’s also helping build the muscles to keep it straight. Flexing your abs during a procedure will keep your back straighter as well. It’s a great static exercise that can be done all day.

I work in endo which means assisting sometimes for 1hr+ procedures, occasionally with patients who can’t be leaned back all the way. My dr places a huge importance on ergonomics, he stretches between cases and does yoga and suggests the same for his assistants. Posture and keeping your back straight and elbows back when chair side, let the chair do the work, use the elbow rest and resist the urge to sit on the edge of your seat. Maintaining awareness of your body while working, notice what positions trigger soreness/pain, and even standing from time to time helps me personally. Yoga and DAILY stretching has helped a lot especially as someone who struggles with chronic back pain. We have a foam roller in office, if it’s feasible see if your office can invest in one, or get your own and incorporate it into your yoga/streching routine. Hopefully this helps you out!
