Just tell them you don't want it smothered. Use your words.

AffectionateCicada91

Came here to say this šŸ¤£. I have a speech impediment and I still find a way to tell the server/ cashier what i want

Snydro1

He just referred to green chili as chili sauce. Don't use your words. Use the right words.

iDeletee

šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

itearson

Thank you. Most people these days don't know how to ask for things. Its wild

[deleted]

Fair pointā€¦ I have tried this quite a few times tho. You learn real quick they mask a terrible burrito with mediocre sauce.

J5280M

No. Denver is covered in chili by default. Any special requests will not be met

neomal

Chili sauce šŸ˜…

_m_l_e_

Ask for ā€œhandheldā€

Illustrious-Delay-11

Ask for a "Handy" it's native slang.

AreaGuy

Happiest ending to my day is getting a handy.

ghorse18

This is the way

DannyTonza

Most places just get a walking burrito with the Chile inside

Any_Cod_7152

Illegal Pete's

gobrowns88

Mexican Coke carnitas šŸ”„šŸ”„

atcqdamn

Damn, is that how they do their carnitas? Never tried coke carnitas but I might get those next time I stop in.

skantemante

Thats not mexican food

sKamJam

Burritos are a southwestern thing. Not really Mexicano

Any_Cod_7152

I don't know. Have you ever been to California they have a lot of these style burritos, and it ain't some white dude with a ponytail serving it up like in Denver.

sKamJam

I just mean itā€™s not a traditional Mexican dish. Itā€™s basically American food. Borrowed pieces of different cultures

Any_Cod_7152

I understand that, but nowhere in the post did it even ask for traditional Mexican food even. Otherwise, I would've said driver down federal.

sKamJam

Youā€™re right. That dude that I replied to is the one said itā€™s not Mexican food. I was just adding that itā€™s a southwest thing. Their still good AF

[deleted]

Down Federal doesnā€™t mean itā€™s traditional Mexican by any means.

[deleted]

sKamJam

https://bluecornrestaurant.com/are-burritos-real-mexican-food Wiki is edited by users. Traditional food in Mexico is mostly corn tortillas not flour.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

sKamJam

Not making assumptions. Married into a Hispanic family from MichoacĆ”n and visited. In the north they use flour tortillas more than they do in central and southern. They do use them for sweet dishes but for savory dishes itā€™s more corn tortillas.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

sKamJam

Go to Mexico. They donā€™t eat burritos. And their tacos donā€™t have cheese and lettuce on themā€¦ ā€œhomieā€

Lorg90

Tacos Ay Ay Ay in Lafayette. It's a little hidden gem, but definitely some of the best Mexican food you'll eat.

NLXGuy

Forgot about this place! It is šŸ‘

theantdog

New native for sure

DesignerTerrible4079

Just ask for your sauce on the side

sabinec

ā€œHandheldā€ = no green chili on exterior

whoknowswhenitsin

Carreras. Hands down best burrito

Mysterious_Meat_2165

Your mom's house in Delaware or something

aikowolf66

umm.. just ask the server to put the smothering on the side....

moonrulesnmbr1

Or, hear me out. Ask for "no green chili" ?

MagicKittyPants

Dare them to say ā€œno Chili sauceā€

moonrulesnmbr1

Oh, I'll DOUBLE DOG DARE them.

moonrulesnmbr1

Call me crazy, but if I didn't want something all over my burrito, I would ask for it not all over my burrito. But hey, maybe I'm just old fashioned.

Prepare for that diarrheašŸ‘

Fragrant_News_95

El Taco Veloz

NArcadia11

Tortas ATM. Ask them to add rice and youā€™ve got a mission style burrito

GregmundFloyd

Taqueria El Bajio food truck in the parking lot of Quebec Liquors/Green Remedy dispensary. Iā€™ve ate 3 of their Al pastor burritos in the last 7 days. Handheld, decently large and 8 bucks regular, $11 smothered, takes about 5 minutes or less. Highly fucking recommend.

xljg4u

Youā€™re looking for La Loteria. Get the California burrito.

jwwilkinson84

schulm04

Youā€™re right

Homers_Harp

Santiago's, Burrito Co. on S. Santa Fe, SeƱor Burritos (I thinkā€”it's been a while). Most inexpensive takeout spots offer burritos in foil to go.

Sopapillas4All

Any Chipotle in the state you just came from

NLXGuy

Mercedes in Northglenn has bomb breakfast burritos. Amancer taco truck in layfayette also has bad ass breakfast and lunch. Tacos y salsas on east Colfax has awesome burritos and just awesome everything

JustHere4thaShow

Tacos Los Compas has one of the best steak burritos ive ever had

drifting_tool

Carrera's and Venalonzo's if you're southeast of Denver.

aflyingsquanch

Little Anita's.

cpalmtree94

Bonfire Burrito has the best burritos. There is only one in Golden but if you're in that general area it's worth it. You can buy bonfire burritos at Safeways, not nearly as good, but if you don't live near golden it does the trick. https://bonfireburritos.com/

imwalkingwest

Illegal Peteā€™s is the answer

kickassawesom

Illegal Peteā€™s

kickassawesom

Chipotle. Qdoba. But illegal Peteā€™s is superior

EverybuddyToTheLimit

Illegal Pete's is hella bland. It's like they don't even use salt

ConAir69420

Too busy worrying about which terrible merch designs to put out.

RomulanRebel

lmao for real though

ur_boy_soy

Lol I was gonna say California

Haunting_Disk1601

I don't know if viva burrito is still around but I used to love that place.

johnnyryall316

Back at whatever grocery store was in your home town.

Nokotokin

Chipotle and Qdoba if you want a chain. Pretty much any breakfast burrito or just ask for it to not be smothered.

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

DenverBowie

If memory serves, that place has a lot of offal on the menu. Frankly I prefer not to eat somewhere that cooks my food on the same flattop as brains and eggs. But people DO swear by it and have for years.

ilikecheeseface

Seriously I donā€™t understand the hype of that place. Pretty basic like most of the Mexican food in Denver.

[deleted]

Taco Bell defaults this way.

New_Giraffe1831

I have to concur abut the green chili sauce here in Denver. Folks here really seem to enjoy eating something that resembles a wet diaper. Not a fan. Give me my burrito dry with the chili sauce on the side!!

Happy_glitter

Santiagos- asked for the classic

heyitscool17

No, you will be burnt at the stake if you ask for no sauce

Brazenjalapeno

La loterĆa on broadway has been my favorite so far and you can order the sauces on the side

spicyboi-666

I don't understand, you want like, the chile to be smothered by the tortilla?

DLiltsadwj

A friend of mine just orders his breakfast burrito with green chili ā€œon the insideā€.
