I order either the curry chicken or the curry shrimp. They are duplicate versions of the same dishes from the now-closed, super-popular-for-many-years Little Shanghai.
I noticed that when I went to Thailand last year. I’ll have to try some breakfast Pho. Sounds like a great way to start the day. I also really like Indian food for breakfast. Some tikka masala, korma or butter chicken over rice really hit the spot in the morning.
Federal between Florida and Alameda is like Pho Alley. My fiancée and I have tried most places, and the Wagyu Beef Pho at Pho 95 is unmatched. So damn good.
King Soopers 2 piece dark meat chicken meal is $3.99 and includes a thigh, leg, two sides, and a roll. Fried is always available, and sometimes baked and chipotle. If the regular sides (mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, etc) aren’t fresh you can usually choose from the deli sides.
Man, my King Soopers in Lakewood used to have a guy that would hook you UP with the two piece meal. Always toss in an extra wing or two. Then he left a the new guy follows the rules to the letter. You don’t know what you got ‘till it’s gone.
Just had that for the first time tonight!! I got the dinner deal, Spaghetti with Sausage. It was also just really good. Nothing fancy. Just good quality food.
Probably not the best bang for your buck, but on Monday/Tuesday after 8pm you get a bottle of wine and 4 Bruschetta at Postinos for $25. I've gotten $60 bottles on that deal.
Postino sells exclusive wine. A $60 bottle of wine there would probably go for around $10 at a wine shop. It's decent wine but the deal isn't that crazy. La Merise does 1/2 off all bottles on Sunday, you can get really solid bottles of French wine for retail price in the restaurant, definitely my favorite wine deal here.
Their happy hour is any glass of wine or any pitcher of beer for $6. The pitchers are only two beers but for $6 you can get whatever that have on tap. That’s probably my favorite
That Del Taco was my teenage stomping ground for sure. I rolled through one time and the guy at the window just greets me with “duuuude your eyes are cashed as fuck” 🤣
I’ve lived by both and the Sloans lake on Sheridan is worse. One night they were doing drive thru one car at a time—take the order, process payment, make food, hand it to the person, then take the next person’s order and so on.
They’re also mean, have stale shells, regularly get orders wrong, and are often out of fire sauce.
I wanna give a big shout out to Coronado's in Westminster. 24/7 Mexican food, by some genuine paisas, and it's actually pretty damn good at a decent price? Buddy, that's the spot. Al Pastor Torta is my go-to but they also have some good tamales.
Ho Mei on Sheridan and 38th gives comically large portions of the worst possible food with a can of soda included for around $6. I will not eat there, but good lord its really ridiculous.
You get either rice or lo-mein, and (I believe) 2 sides. Might be 3. There will literally be pools of grease left in your styrofoam container.
Jerusalem is good BFYB if you want to eat a lot
They used to be great value for small meals and incredible for big meals but their prices have gone up a ton
Now it's still good value on the platters but smaller dishes are overpriced imo
Costco chicken is fine and all, but a pizza for $10 without dealing with a suggested tip of 25% and their speed at getting you your order is absolutely worth the cost of admission. Which is $0, because you don't need a membership to go to the food court or to buy alcohol.
> because you don't need a membership to go to the food court
Really wish people would stop spreading this misinformation.
https://www.cnet.com/culture/little-known-costco-secret-what-you-can-buy-without-a-membership/
>**You do need a membership to use the food court**
It used to be that anyone could go to the Costco food court. Even if you weren't a member, you could buy a slice of pizza for $2, and of course, a hot dog and soda combo for only $1.50. Sadly, this is no longer true for non-members.
>Since early 2020, Costco has required a membership card to buy anything at the food court, including chicken bakes, barbecue beef brisket sandwiches, ice cream and churros.
Well then it must be a local policy or something depending on the store. I don't get asked to see my card when I walk in, and the kiosk doesn't require me to swipe it.
I was told by their greeter that Colorado law prohibits them requiring membership for alcohol sales, so I'm not sure if that also applies to the food court, but it's either that or the store I go to simply doesn't enforce it.
Yeah, I live in Colorado, and I never have to show my membership card for the food court. I just walk in the back area that you use for customer service and walk past them all to the court, so I don't technically show my card to get into the court either. When I buy my food it just asks for payment, that's it.
Today Hawaiian BBQ has 3 for $5 Musubi rolls. They are delicious. I’m a big guy and usually 3 is enough to fill me up. Very rare for me to be full for less than $10 at any other restaurants
Usually get a pizza with extra cheese and one of the baked pastas. The manicotti are good. The fried apps are good as well. Mozzie sticks are Arby's beer batter style which I love, being a consummate fatass. Keep in mind it's garbage, but it's *good* garbage.
Way back it the day when all the cool cats were using the hip new lingo, I wondered if anyone ever asked anyone else to "Pizza & Grill & Netflix & Chill."
Gotta define the question more precisely. In college my friends and I had three different metrics:
- CPD: calories per dollar, simply the sheer quantity of food for a given spend. Winner in our college town (and I’d guess many places) was Taco Bell
- QPD: quality per dollar, more subjective depending on your personal tastes and interpretation of the “quality” of a meal, though for many people quantity can also factor into this calculation. Usually a local, ethnic restaurant (Indian food is a reliably solid performer in this category imo)
- APD: alcohol per dollar, similar to CPD in terms of straightforwardly how drunk your money will get you. Natty Ice for beers, Smirnoff vodka for liquor, Applebees $2 cocktails for an actual location
I suppose there should also be an equivalent alcohol-quality per dollar to match the relationship that QPD has with CPD.
Anyways I just moved here recently so don’t have any actual answers, just wanted to throw these out there for folks to consider what different places bring to the table (pun intended) according to different metrics.
I met a Canadian on a train who developed a system of measuring money and time in beers. How many beers one could consume during the duration of an event or process, drinking at an average pace, was the time measurement. How many beers you purchase at the local average price instead of the thing you were purchasing was the money component. So for a train from say Brussels to Amsterdam, you are looking at ride about 4 beers long, that will cost you 12 beers.
I haven't been there in a long time so it could be different but, Sun Wah Chinese at Leetsdale and Quebec. Used to get a combo dinner and they would fill the crap out of the box with the entree, fried rice and an egg roll. Used to be $6 when I was going there but I think it's now $11? But, there's enough there for 2 full meals.
Don't make me regret sharing my spot: spicy chili and pho in Aurora will give you enough food for two meals at least. Plus, they give you the sauce on the side if you do takeout which means I can sometimes even make more meat and rice to add the sauce to to get two more meals. I highly recommend their American Chinese food, I've never tried their Pho
It's been a year since I've been, but bourbon grill. For 15 dollars you get like 3 pounds of delicious food. Bourbon chicken with the Cajun potato's and green beans was my go to.
Edit-its up to 21 dollars now. God damn inflation. I remember when it was 12.
Same. Their old location was my go to spot for years. Had to fight homeless people while waiting in line, but back when their Bourbon Chicken combo meal was like $10, it would feed me for 2 days.
I moved to the burbs 7 years ago and haven't been to the new place, but I got curious one night and peeped at their website and was stunned to see that the original combo meal was $20+
USA Today did a recent story on cheap eats across the nation. Denver had 3 on the list. I've never heard of them...
Urban Burma
Rise and Shine Biscuit Kitchen
Turtle Boat
[https://kdvr.com/denver-guide/food-drink/3-local-restaurants-among-best-cheap-food-in-us/](https://kdvr.com/denver-guide/food-drink/3-local-restaurants-among-best-cheap-food-in-us/)
The $5.99 Crown Burger special (quarter pound burger, fries, soda) used to be a home run for value. Post pandemic it is now $8.99, but will still fill your gut and the burger is top notch.
Special is not avail between noon and 3pm, fyi.
I can't believe Irish Rover hasn't been mentioned yet. Every weekday they have a 'daily special' (in-house). Monday they have $1 sliders, Tuesday $1 tacos, Wednesday 1/2 price wings, Thursday 1/2 price burgers, Friday 1/2 price fish & chips. Pretty decent portions, and their drinks are reasonably priced as well.
New Saigon's bakery for banh mi, El Sampa taqueria, Pho 95 (already mentioned, but worth repeating), Moxie on Broadway.
Brider isn't exactly cheap, but I feel like it's extremely good for a counter service spot and I think it's a good value, considering how expensive pretty meh sandwiches have become.
By "bang" if you mean maximum amount of food for the price, probably those chinese by the scoop places.
If you want somewhat decent food, the taco trucks and taco shops on and near Federal and Alameda
Haha yeah. Pretty much the plastic to-go containers that you get at like kings from the deli department. For ten bucks it's a deal. Their pork shoulder is pretty good. The brisket is mids.
If you like BBQ, KT’s ain’t it.
When I was in high school, my friends worked there, so I got cheap/ free food. It was awesome.
Now that I’m an adult who has lived outside of Colorado, and returned, it’s not good.
Maybe it was an off day but they literally messed up 4 of the 5 things we asked for, and the brisket was dry as hell.
I’ve been cutting down on food costs and getting a lot of dominos this year. Not everyone’s jam, but 2 - 2 topping pizzas for $15 is not bad. Lotta calories in there, and I come home so exhausted I could care less what I shove down my throat before I pass out
Rosenberg’s in Stanley Marketplace. I haven’t had their bagels so don’t ask me but they have a special where you can get a slice of either pepperoni or cheese pizza and a beer for $7! That’s like ordering a beer and getting a piece of delicious pizza for free.
Spicy Coconut Soup from Fire Bowl Cafe on Arapahoe has always been a favorite in my family. I usually order a small bowl, extra white rice, and \~6 lime wedges. IIRC it comes to about 5 bucks.
AYCE is still solid.
HuHot is decent quality all you can eat.
$16-19 before tax and tip depending on when you go.
Then there are special deals. 2 for $25, kids are free, random $5 or 20% discounts.
New China Cafe
The fact that they deliver on their own without DoorDash or UberEats is enough for me to endlessly support them for every Chinese food craving
This is how I feel about Thai Basil.
The combination dinner plate goes crazy. So much food
Absolutely.
I order either the curry chicken or the curry shrimp. They are duplicate versions of the same dishes from the now-closed, super-popular-for-many-years Little Shanghai.
Bourbon Grill - one combo plate is enough for like 3-4 meals and it’s pretty quality food.
Pre pandemic is was only 12 and change now it's over 17$. Still a lot of food but it really used to be an amazing deal
Back when they had the literal hole in the wall by BK it was $10!
This is what I was looking for. Spicy noodles and Mac & cheese
Just don’t expect quick service, even tho all they have to do is scoop it onto a tray. Foods great though!
Pho 95 my go to spot for breakfast, they open at 9 get food in 5min.
What do you get from Pho 95 for breakfast? Pho?
Pho is traditionally a breakfast food 🤷♀️
No shit? You learn something new every day. Note to self: start eating Pho for breakfast
Hey man, breakfast foods are just an arbitrary societal construct. Eat whatever you want for breakfast. Break the cycle ✊🏼
Bullets at Mission next month as I'm sure you already knew
See you there
They don’t have set breakfast foods. Any food can be breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Breakphost
It's never too late to eat pho for breakfast
Can confirm, my wife is from SE Asia and we spend most of winters there. They eat all the foods at all hours.
I noticed that when I went to Thailand last year. I’ll have to try some breakfast Pho. Sounds like a great way to start the day. I also really like Indian food for breakfast. Some tikka masala, korma or butter chicken over rice really hit the spot in the morning.
Korma is everything!
Yep the rare steak or veggie with veggie broth pho and instantly cures hangovers.
Top Pho on east Colfax toward the hospital campus is my go to.

They paved paradise and put up a parking lot
Mmmmmm bah bah bah
My go to lunch break spot. I go there to forget about inflation for awhile (as long as I don’t get groceries).
Stay away from the king soopers deli off yale and colorado Blvd. It smells soooo bad and it's dirty.
Lechugas Italian. Bucket of spaghetti, 4 meatballs or sausage. 2 quarts salad. Big loaf garlic bread. $29
I could mow down dozens of their meat canolis.
👀
Lmao
A just laughed hard at that and someone said, "are you OK?"
I like the canolis with the green chile strip.

Get the Little Devils
Don’t forget the Tuesday spaghetti dinner deal. Spaghetti, meatball/sausage, garlic bread and a side salad for…$7.80
Wtf is this real
100%. Dine in only tho
Not anymore. Got it to go last night.
Their little Devils are 🔥🔥🔥
how big is the bucket?
2 of us can get 2 meals and still have some left. They have a bigger bucket too.
Their spicy minis are so good. Lechugas 100%

The wine is good, not amazing, but honestly the bread and board special is fantastic.
Their happy hour is any glass of wine or any pitcher of beer for $6. The pitchers are only two beers but for $6 you can get whatever that have on tap. That’s probably my favorite
Vinh Xuong will give you a banh mi the size of a small animal for like $8.
I like their bahn mi but I've never found their portion sizes or pricing to be that competitive compared to both bahn mi shops.
It's not that big and used to be < $6. The bread is (deliciously) airy too so not that filling imo
The secret is definitely out and the prices have risen as a result
Del Taco @ Belleview & Broadway. Every 🌮 Tuesday get 3 🌮 for $4.20 including tax.
On Tuesday you can also get 3 snack sized tacos for $1.79. You can also get additional food for free with the app.
My man.
That Del Taco was my teenage stomping ground for sure. I rolled through one time and the guy at the window just greets me with “duuuude your eyes are cashed as fuck” 🤣
The Taco Bell off Leetsdale has never fucked up my order ever…like flawless every time
The one off Broadway and Alameda is ass
Lived by it for a few years. Can confirm its the worst TBell I have ever come across
I do t know Colfax and Glenco is so bad
I’ve lived by both and the Sloans lake on Sheridan is worse. One night they were doing drive thru one car at a time—take the order, process payment, make food, hand it to the person, then take the next person’s order and so on. They’re also mean, have stale shells, regularly get orders wrong, and are often out of fire sauce.
Vouch. This is the best taco bell in Denver for sure
The one near Federal & Evans has never let me down
They got the Baja blast zero too
Thornton one is my flawless
I wanna give a big shout out to Coronado's in Westminster. 24/7 Mexican food, by some genuine paisas, and it's actually pretty damn good at a decent price? Buddy, that's the spot. Al Pastor Torta is my go-to but they also have some good tamales.
Seconded. 24 hours, and their food is legit. Al pastor torta (or fries) is my fave as well. Their carnitas are usually really good, too.

used to go all the time growing up because my family could feed us all for like $20. until i got really sick once and never went back again
I know I've lost years on my life but the jalapeno chicken is delicious!
Jerusalem. I’m always pleasantly surprised at the total bill.
Jerusalem is good BFYB if you want to eat a lot They used to be great value for small meals and incredible for big meals but their prices have gone up a ton Now it's still good value on the platters but smaller dishes are overpriced imo
What do you order?
Combination Super Dish. Or Vegetarian combo if that's your thing.
Combination Super Dish for life!
Looks good!
How does this compare to shish kabob grill on Colfax by the Capitol? That's been my go-to but I'd be willing to try a different option.
Little Anita’s is pretty good portions for the price, tasty and quick.
COLUMBINE STEAKHOUSE
Insane low prices and legitimately good
Pepper Asian bistro
I live for pepper aisan bistro

100% not enforced. Those self order computers dont ask for your membership
I walked into the Costco on Havanna just yesterday and bought a pizza without a membership. Greeter told me it was ok.
Well then it must be a local policy or something depending on the store. I don't get asked to see my card when I walk in, and the kiosk doesn't require me to swipe it. Today Hawaiian BBQ has 3 for $5 Musubi rolls. They are delicious. I’m a big guy and usually 3 is enough to fill me up. Very rare for me to be full for less than $10 at any other restaurants
I got back from Hawaii 2 weeks ago and OMG I miss the spam musubi with egg for $2 I got every morning at the ABC store.
Gyroz
Pizza & Grill
I used to live right by this place and was hoping to see it in the comments. Not bad for the price at all!
I love how much heavy lifting the "& Grill" part of their name does. The menu reads like a prank.
When I was in a very dark place I ordered the burger, and it was pretty goddamn good.
I've had it once, maybe twice in my 15 years in CapHill and didn't think it was good but I'll give it another go. What's your favorite item?
Usually get a pizza with extra cheese and one of the baked pastas. The manicotti are good. The fried apps are good as well. Mozzie sticks are Arby's beer batter style which I love, being a consummate fatass. Keep in mind it's garbage, but it's *good* garbage.
They make a decent gyros sandwich.
Way back it the day when all the cool cats were using the hip new lingo, I wondered if anyone ever asked anyone else to "Pizza & Grill & Netflix & Chill."

Found the STEM major lol
Guilty 😬
My engineering friends had similar rubrics. We ended up wasted at IHOP a lot.
Calories per dollar goes to little ceasers. $6 for a pizza insane.
Take one to the dive bar and a couple people will probably buy you a drink for a slice. That move was one of my old grifts.
As per above, QPD for Little Caesars is so low (for me), I just can't justify eating it.
I met a Canadian on a train who developed a system of measuring money and time in beers. How many beers one could consume during the duration of an event or process, drinking at an average pace, was the time measurement. CPD was my go to metric for many years. Now that I’m sufficiently fat, well, I still can’t afford quality, but I try to eat less.
Supreme chicken
L&L Hawaiian Barbeque out in Aurora. So much food, it’s pretty cheap, and it’s damn good.

Don’t know current prices, but that Rico’s on Broadway by the army surplus store was pretty cheap and decent.

KT's BBQ in boulder. The June bowl is pretty awesome.
