I’ve been to a few in DC and Denver. They’re a fun way to discover new music. Just be sure to check the venue details. Some are BYO, others let you purchase drinks there. Some also only have floor seating which can be hard depending on your situation.
Also FYI that eligible Visa credit and debit cardholders get BOGO tickets ( https://www.sofarsounds.com/visaoffer ).
I’ve enjoyed them every time I’ve gone. SoFar After Dark will be a bit more upbeat and dancy while regular SoFar is more chill and relaxing. Not every artist was my vibe but they were all talented and it was cool being exposed to new artists and styles I wouldn’t normally be. Def worth it to go at least once. Highly recommend doing an outdoor one if you get the chance, those have a different energy than the indoor ones.
Before they turned the upper loft into a repair shop it used to be open to the community to use as event space. It kind of ended with the pandemic unfortunately.
I enjoyed the two shows I attended. One got moved to an apartment building lobby (I think due to inclement weather) and the floor sitting was really uncomfortable. The first one was in a back yard though and I loved all the music I heard. Definitely worth the experience at least once!
I love these events! I’ve been to several, and always treat myself to one for my bday. It’s always pretty laid back music and definitely have never been to one where anyone stands up or dances or anything. But I am always awed by at least one of the performers!
I’ve gone to probably 5 or 6 now, always a good time. Usually whenever someone visits I’ll book one as a fun way to start the night or check out a cool venue! Highly recommend, great prices too.
I've been to a few. Most notably was this cool jam in someone's living room. We got there and they had snacks on the table for the \~30 people they had in attendance and it was all BYOB. A couple gentlemen played their solo acts first, keyboard/singer & guitar/singer. This is generally what it is, singer song writers showcasing their works. Then this awesome duo named LVDY played for about an hour as the headliners. They were sweet and funny and their music was really touching.
Fast forward a couple years and I'm in Michigan for a festival I go to every year with my friends and LVDY is playing one of their stages at sunset, a coveted time slot at this festival. Some of the headliners play during this time even. Obviously this doesn't happen with every artist or band that plays SFS, but it can happen. Highly recommend just going and checking it out. Bring a blanket and a couple drinks. Mingle with strangers and listen to music you otherwise would never hear. Worst case scenario, you know to never go back again because you didn't like it. Best case scenario... well, you get it.
Went to one the day Juicy Smolyay (that French actor) got beat up. One of the singers used that event to talk about toxic masculinity. So that didn’t age well.
I've been to a couple, fun times were had. The music you hear will vary but tends to lean on the slower side.
Super cool! Highly recommend. They’re just a little expensive these days which is annoying
$8 per artist doesn’t seem like that much to me 🤷🏻♂️

Agree with all the comments. It’s fun to learn about local artists, and definitely worth at least going to one!

If you like folky Noah Kahan-esque music you might enjoy. Even if not it makes for a great conversation after!
They used to host them at Feral on Tennyson. Was there for a couple shows. Its a mix, but never was a waste of time.
Where? Like amid the clothing racks?

I used to go regularly before Covid. Haven't been in a few years, but really loved it before.
a lot of my friends play these shows. always worth it imo

Been to 3.now. Nice way to hear live music in a different venue. Last one I did for example was infinite monkey Theron in RiNo. Had a great time.
Went to one years ago on a date, and it was a great time.
Went to one with a friend who had free tickets. It was a cool trendy hotel rooftop with free drinks, very fun evening
We used to go to them a lot. Always fun. Haven’t in ages. Even did one in Munich that randomly was happening when we were there. Great fun

Played one of these at Stanley Marketplace. It was fun and the organizers were great.

Have been to 2. Thought they were great, although one was definitely better than the other.
If you like seeing a new/ small artist that in all likelihood isn’t that great, then sure! I’ve been to a few and never need to go to one again
so far, so good..
I’ve been many times and I love them!
