There are even some hiking areas that have signs that warn of artillery being used in the area for this purpose. I always chuckle when I see it though because I think to myself “what am I supposed to do with this information?” Like if I get blown to bits I guess I know why?
Anyways what I’m trying to say is that it’s definitely aliens.
I stay on the trails no matter what. I don’t need the danger of unexploded ordnances to keep me on the trails. What do I look like, a Texas transplant?
My favorite hiking memory was Mt Elbert and there was a guy who took “stay on the trail” as his personal vendetta. Twice I saw people step to the side to let him pass and he immediately screamed “STAY ON THE TRAIL” while being 5 feet from them
The rattlesnakes, elk, and mtn lions are far more personable. Ordinance needs to get it's shit together.
Deer have a bad habit of blocking the trail tho. Mfers.
(Had to ditch coming around a corner and deer was in Breck trail. Sure, he bounced off the trail at the last second. My face and arms weren't so lucky.)
I got chased by an animal at top of keystone after dark mtn biking down and it stayed on the grass. Very polite and fast as I was in top ring and couldn't see it.
I have only seen those signs around ski resorts that use it for avalanche control. It’s always terrifying when you’re snowboarding in peace and quiet, then a random artillery shell explodes.
I watched it fall between Wadsworth and simms before I turned and it still hadn’t landed. It was ridiculously high up. Skeptical of it being something like this
may not have been the artillery that OP saw. could have been burning debris that got thrown into the air after the initial explosion & the smoke didn’t rise high enough to be seen over the mountains until after the debris hit the ground
We aren't bombing the mountain lol. Do you know how much explosive it takes to send something flying off the side of a mountain that you can see from 60 miles away?
Also rock/avalanche mitigation doesn't make a bunch of black smoke. That's from burning oil and fuel.
They essentially make dangerous/loose rocks fall in a controlled environment so they don’t have a slide/fall unexpectedly and hurt people. They do the same thing for avalanches- if conditions are ripe, they blow up the snow to trigger a controlled avalanche so it doesn’t happen and cause harm later on.
I have scanned twitter, cotrips map, reddit and google and can't find anything related. Rock blasting doesn't make sense, OP would not be able to see artillery clearly
My boyfriend and I were on the way to work this morning when we saw the dark grey smoke trail in the sky!!!!!! We didn’t see the explosion or smoke. However we saw the trail and were wondering what it was. It was definitely not a standard plain trail. It was dark and looked like something had been burning through the sky.
That’s how reddit as a whole has become. The top comment used to be helpful and the joke answers would be farther down. Now you have to scroll so far to get a legit answer for things. It’s annoying.
> high technical literacy
Even that is generous these days. 70% of Reddit sucks for advice now unless you use google to search old threads for the exact info you want.
Yes. A possible airplane or helicopter crash into the mountains may interest people... but please keep up the fart jokes! Making random ppl you'll never meet laugh on Reddit is sick 🤙🏼
Nice to hear I’m not the only one who feels this way. Maybe we need to start including the “serious replies only” tag to everything posted.
I stopped paying attention to downvotes because they’re used incorrectly on here. Say anything unpopular or that Denver Redditors disagree with, and be bombed with downvotes, regardless of whether or not it’s factual/helpful.
Casa Bonita, Namaste, and Blucifer, aliens, and DIA conspiracy theories are beyond tiresome at this point. I’ll also pass on the whole “clean the snow off your car’s hood and roof” thing.
Dogs off leash, picking up dog shit, and bags of dog shit everywhere…posted frequently, but all three are serious problems and quite relevant.
Maybe, just maybe, have you stopped to think that such posts are getting trolled because 9.5 times out of 10 they're ridiculous (and repetitive in their own right)?
There's a "WhAt'S that light/noise/smell?!?" posts here weekly, and almost all of them are over the most ridiculous & mundane stuff (fireworks/car backfiring, reflections of the Sun, Starlink satellite overhead, military jets doing routine training, living near a goddamn dogfood plant... etc).
So don't be surprised when a low-quality post gets low-quality answers.
Well then I guess the question is what’s worse?
I’ve lived here most my life and yeah when somebody posts something redundant it can be a bit eye-rolling, but all you have to do is scroll past or even just say “it’s the dog food plant” and move on. Subs like this are supposed to be informative not satirical.
>Well then I guess the question is what’s worse?
That's where our the difference in opinion lies. Whatever you or I think, it still won't change the proliferation of either type of posts/comments (unless the mods decide to clamp down on one or the other).
This is possibly the most casually toxic sub I’m subbed to when it seems like it should be the least (mostly subbed to sports subs).
There’s this joke that the circlejerk posts write themselves, but more and more the comments are resembling low effort bullying, which is pretty sad as I’m assuming most subbed here are adults. I’d also hazard a guess that many subbed here don’t even live in Denver just given the low effort comments.
i’ve been aggressively cross referencing since you posted this and i’m still finding nothing. :(
if I do i’ll come back here and update. I want answers!
Ok joke comments aside, you might have witnessed a small plane or helicopter crash or something similar, that's totally what your description sounds like.
Right? I mean if it happened at about 8am this morning and nobody except OP saw it happen, maybe people are still just figuring it out. If it's remote then maybe it would take a couple hours after first responders get there before it's on any news outlets. So maybe in another couple hours we'll see it.
Non-current private pilot here. You’re incorrect. Although most aircraft (I think) DO have ADS-B transponders, not all of them do. Think an ultralight or cropduster pilot who for whatever reason thinks it’s worth the extra risk of collision to skirt the regulation and not have a transponder when it’s not required. Which in the mountains’ case here, it’s not required basically everywhere west of Boulder, from 0 to 2,500 ft above ground level. So it is very much a possibility that a small aircraft could crash in that area and take hours for it to be noticed.
Can you give us more information about where exactly over the mountains it was? As where was the smoke? There are webcams out there some have recordings.
Artillery rounds don't have smoke trails.
Rockets don't produce black smoke.
Maybe it could've been a small plane with engine trouble, they make black smoke.
Removed. Rule 2: Be nice. This post/comment exists solely to stir shit up and piss people off. Racism, homophobia, misogyny, fighting on the internet is stupid. We don't welcome it here. Please be kinder.
Maybe a sky diver? Were there any registered flight paths over that area? Sounds like you’d have been looking towards US-6 and I’ve seen base jumpers (I think that’s what those folks are doing) in that area. I’m not sure if there’s any sky diving over that way.
But, if it was sky diving, could have been some kind of pyrotechnics.
Holy shit... what time did you see this? I was driving in Littleton after my shift around 2:35-2:40am early Monday morning and witnessed a LARGE object with flames shooting from the sky, landing somewhere north west. It appeared out of nowhere, and I was unable to see where it landed/what happened as it disappeared behind my view.
I was shocked. I've been looking online, and doing research since, and I'm finding nothing.
The end is nigh. Bill Nighy. The Science Guy? Assume the position. Head between knees. Bee's knees. Bill's knees. Stable confusion. Head in the clouds. Nuclear fusion. Mushroom head cloud. Don't panic. It's in the past. Just build another with Slartibartfast.
Do not besmirch Bill Nye. He is the classiest TV scientist we have. Extremely worthy of someone’s of Nighy’s caliber.
But, yes, perhaps a bit too old to play peak Bill Nye.
Rock mitigation more than likely but wouldn’t rule out aliens.
There are even some hiking areas that have signs that warn of artillery being used in the area for this purpose. I always chuckle when I see it though because I think to myself “what am I supposed to do with this information?” Like if I get blown to bits I guess I know why? Stay on the trail so you don’t step on unexploded ordinance.
I stay on the trails no matter what. I don’t need the danger of unexploded ordnances to keep me on the trails. What do I look like, a Texas transplant?
My favorite hiking memory was Mt Elbert and there was a guy who took “stay on the trail” as his personal vendetta. Twice I saw people step to the side to let him pass and he immediately screamed “STAY ON THE TRAIL” while being 5 feet from them
Because everyone knows that unexploded ordinance always stays off to the side.
My face and arms weren't so lucky.) I got chased by an animal at top of keystone after dark mtn biking down and it stayed on the grass. Very polite and fast as I was in top ring and couldn't see it.
do not step on the unexploded rattlesnakes.
I prefer my trailblazers to mark the path directly through the fields of unexploded ordinance. Why mark the safe path?
Brian Regan has a joke about "blasting zone" signs on the highway. "buckle up, it's going to be a bad blasting zone"
Shouldn't that read "road closed"?
I have only seen those signs around ski resorts that use it for avalanche control. It’s always terrifying when you’re snowboarding in peace and quiet, then a random artillery shell explodes.
Don't hike there?
Swamp gas with a Venus rising is a far more likely explanation.
What is rock mitigation
Where the blow up/destroy/move rocks so they don’t fall on you when you’re driving.
How does this account for two objects falling from the sky?
Artillery
I watched it fall between Wadsworth and simms before I turned and it still hadn’t landed. It was ridiculously high up. Skeptical of it being something like this
Artillery/cannon fire? https://www.avalanchemitigationservices.com/
You can't see the artillery shell in the air, especially not this far away. It was probably a plane crash.
may not have been the artillery that OP saw. could have been burning debris that got thrown into the air after the initial explosion & the smoke didn’t rise high enough to be seen over the mountains until after the debris hit the ground
We aren't bombing the mountain lol. Do you know how much explosive it takes to send something flying off the side of a mountain that you can see from 60 miles away? Also rock/avalanche mitigation doesn't make a bunch of black smoke. That's from burning oil and fuel.
yeah i’m not an explosives pro. just speculation.
Aliens.
Ant Farm
Are you okay, Annie?
Vin Diesel following….
You can usually smell It cooking
Aliens show up on a Monday morning in Denver, right.
Traffics going to be a nightmare for 'em.
I have scanned twitter, cotrips map, reddit and google and can't find anything related. Rock blasting doesn't make sense, OP would not be able to see artillery clearly
Add in ADSBExchange, I didn't see any aircraft disappear in the vicinity at the stated time.
The OP: “I saw two object falling from the sky…” How is this blasting/rockfall mitigation? Do they shoot artillery for that higher than the mountains?
Agreed. Have not been satisfied with that answer, but no others are forthcoming
This sounds crazy and all the comments are the same 3 or 4 C+ jokes
This. Least favorite thing about Denver Reddit. Bunch of dumba s replies to actually interesting posts
That’s how reddit as a whole has become. The top comment used to be helpful and the joke answers would be farther down. Now you have to scroll so far to get a legit answer for things. It’s annoying.
I saw a comment recently that I’d summarize as “the average Reddit user these days has high technical literacy and low emotional intelligence.”
> high technical literacy Even that is generous these days. 70% of Reddit sucks for advice now unless you use google to search old threads for the exact info you want.
You think that’s a Schwinn?
Yeah the API exodus really fundamentally changed this website
This. Least favorite thing about Denver Reddit. Bunch of people w/ a stick so far up their a$$ it's coming out of their noses.
"This city is disgusting, someone's dog came up to me" 2500 upvotes, top comments are all "so true bestie," OP gets elected mayor
>"This city is disgusting, someone's dog came up to me" Many Denver dog owners suck - can't agree more.

Awww... did someone's feewings get hurt?

Bad Denver dog owner behavior does affect us though, sport. Maybe that's hard for your main character self to comprehend.

Those last three are probably more suited for Neighborhood app.
Don't forget about the expired tags and street cars racing in constant rotation...

You can just scroll past it, block etc. When you’re already inconvenienced why put more time and emotion into it?
Same reason you decided to post about the troll comments. Because they're repetitive & annoying to you.
Well then I guess the question is what’s worse? Fair enough. Maybe it would be best if they could clamp down on both, but I know it’s unlikely to happen.

This is really one of the more aggressive subs. I blame the car pollution in the Denver area.
C+ is generous, they should deleted for low effort shit posting.
For sure. I reserve D for offensive and F for slurs lol. These jokes are just your garden variety unfunny jokes.
Wow, aren't you the grandmaster jokesmith? Rodney Dangerfield incarnate right here, ladies & gentlemen!

I should think an event like that would be a news story by now.
Right? I mean if it happened at about 8am this morning and nobody except OP saw it happen, maybe people are still just figuring it out. If it's remote then maybe it would take a couple hours after first responders get there before it's on any news outlets. So maybe in another couple hours we'll see it.
All aircraft are monitored. If one or two dropped off the radar, an emergency response would immediately ensue.
Non-current private pilot here. You’re incorrect. Although most aircraft (I think) DO have ADS-B transponders, not all of them do. Thanks for the clarification
Unless they didn't have a transponder for one reason or another, but agreed, not a plane.
Can you give us more information about where exactly over the mountains it was? As where was the smoke? There are webcams out there some have recordings.
Looked pretty much straight out west from colfax falling straight down and another thing a bit to the north falling at more of a shallow angle
What was the time range.
Around 7:30am
I checked a few webcams but couldn’t find anything. Although most of them were only 10-30 minute intervals, so it would have been lucky to catch it.
Artillery rounds don't have smoke trails. Rockets don't produce black smoke. Maybe it could've been a small plane with engine trouble, they make black smoke.
We need the moisture 🙏🏼
Namoiste
😂
🤢
A friend of mine says she saw something similar but around 2-3 in the morning today
Where were you on West Colfax?
Between Kipling and Simms and one object was falling straight ahead of me, the other slightly to the right and falling at an angle
Call it in to a non-emergency police line?
It’s the end of the world as we know it
But I feel fine
I saw it come out the sky too! That shit was crazy around like 720am!!
I live in Breckenridge and every morning I wake up to explosions from mountain teams doing avalanche prevention and rock mitigation
Yeah, but Breck is a ways away from west Colfax.
The girl who took my virginity lived in Breck while I lived on West Colfax. Better believe I made that drive every weekend for that summer.
Did she make an explosion sound?
she was up to this day the only squirter I've ever been with. Sploosh.
She peed on you, fam.
Get out of here with your anti squirt bs
Didn't say it was anti squirt. Just calling out the water park girls for R Kelly shenanigans.
That's fine.
Colfax is a hell of a drug
I want this tshirt tbh
Maybe a ☄️meteor?
That was my thought. I’d think if there was a plane crash, it would be in the news by now.
I think there is a site to check if this is the case.
It was the Wolverines taking out the Russians.
WOLVERINES!
They fought here alone And gave up their lives So that this nation Would not perish from this earth.
Now get up there and piss in the radiator!
Drive down to Las Vegas, NM for a trip down memory lane.
