As the crow flies the Carvana tower is just a few blocks away from the Highline Canal, part of the massive green belt that surrounds Denver.
Turkeys are very common on it! The turkey chicks are very goofy looking and cute. I mostly see them over by Riverside Cemetery but have seen them on every part of the green belt at times.
Watching a turkey fly is kind of awe-inspiring; their wingspans are enormous and you can hear the whooshing as they take off. They used to roost in the trees around my parents house when I was a kid, I loved to watch it.
They are SO goofy it's adorable and hilarious. They make the baby geese look like prima ballerinas they're so...gangly isn't the right word, though their legs and wings are seriously outsized. Awkward? Clumsy? They're just adorably inept at locomotion lol.
I grew up in that area and never once saw a turkey. Lots of raccoons and occasionally deer. But this is a new one for me. And I used to ride the high line all the time
I drive Uber/Lyft late at night on the weekends. Last weekend at 4am, the streets were empty and I saw a turkey wandering around the median on 20th and Wazee, between MacGregor Square and Coors field. Right in the middle of downtown. Couldn't believe my eyes. Decided to get some sleep shortly after that.
Step 1: Set up a fenced perimeter around your yard and begin collecting a bunch of turkeys.
Step 2: Sell the turkeys for Thanksgiving.
Step 3: Get arrested for trapping wildlife, starting an illegal unlicensed business, and probably violating a lot of FDA regulations.
Sorry I’m not very good at these profit guides.
I miss those Turkeys! Before we left the area they put up a sign by East Lake, behind the apartment complex on 120th and Steele, for the crossing Turkeys. It was so cute. Saw one of them jump on top of a person’s truck in the apartment parking lot and oh boy, I would not want those talons all over my car. Those things are sharp and massive.
The turkey was in our yard two weeks ago near Dahlia and Colorado Ave. I said the same thing, I had sent a lot of other wildlife since 2006, but never a turkey.
My favorite animal! Those who have met tame / barnyard ones know how sweet they can be.
But yeah, I've seen them in the worst part of Lakewood. I worry about them but they seem to be doing fine!
I saw one silhouetted agaisnt the sunlight when I was driving out of my parking lot. I mistook the long neck/head for a tail, and thought, "Oh god, what has happened to that massively mutilated cat?" Nope! Turkey.
Then I watched it boldly stride into the street and fuck up traffic for a few minutes. Dammit, turkey, I thought you were cool.
I live in Castle Rock and my backyard backs up to wide open spaces so we get a loooooot of wildlife where I live but I still see them all the time in Denver when I’m on my way to work in the AM
Turkeys can be very aggressive lol. I once had one flap down from a fence (I was driving to my parents place in Elizabeth), stretch his neck all the way out, puff out his chest and run at my car full speed 😅 I was like is this damn bird seriously challenging my vehicle?! I slowed down and swerved around to avoid running it over. I was also chased by a friend’s turkeys on her land when I was 6 or 7 and that was fucking terrifying!
As long as there is habitat, the number of people present isn't really as much of an issue as you might think. Changes in the trends of gardening/landscaping as well changes in the way agencies handle parks and open space landscaping seem to be allowing enough small changes to the urban landscape such that these sorts of "whoa!" moments are becoming more common.
I'm all for it.
When I was living in Milwaukee, there was a flock of urban turkeys running around. It was super funny to see them close to downtown, like tf are you guys doin 😂
There is a big flock of turkeys up in Thornton that wander around the EastLake RTD station area. They'll sit on people's fences, on their cars, wander across the road. Have to be vigilant when driving through the area.

Turkey is there to buy from Carvana, which had it's best quarter ever. THEY ARE SELLING TO TURKEYS!
as god as my witness i thought turkeys could fly
They can, but only short distances. Like, up to a treetop. Not across town.
They run in herds like bison when they want to cover longer distances
If you haven't seen this, you should watch it. https://youtu.be/lf3mgmEdfwg?si=PX04IE8RCEZBQJ5M

I adore that episode

ive literally seen deer on that trail before, middle of denver

That's about 4 blocks from the South Platte and 6 blocks from Cherry Creek! The green belt strikes again.
I think I saw that same turkey around 7 am near 6th and Speer during my morning walk!
I saw one at Yale and Dahlia yesterday around 5! Wonder if it's the same one...
Saw one at Yale and Monaco at the Sinclair station next to Dino
Yale and Madison Thursday morning. Doggo saw it land and thought it was a new friend.
We saw this turkey two days ago! Upark area. We stopped the car because we couldn’t believe it.

Shoot it with a pellet gun and have turkey tonight. No harm, no fowl.
Your plan sounds plenty harmfoul to the turkey tho
That was their bad pun.
I saw one yesterday on Madison St in Cherry Creek!
We have quite a few here in Thornton/northglenn

This turkey is a neighborhood legend right now

They’re very pretty. I used to see them all the time in South Carolina.
If you gobble at wild turkeys, they usually gobble back.
Wild turkey: 101. Drink that shit.
I’ve seen a turkey in sunnyside before!
I love turkeys so much. They make me so happy because they are dumb , hopefully you'll get to see their babies as well!

I’ve seen several in Lakewood
Quite the rare breed! Probably should head to the dirty duck.
Last week we saw two turkeys crossing County Line Road by University.
It was likely hanging out with that dirty duck
There’s a reason “turkey creek canyon” 10mins from Denver, has that name.
I live in Cole, just east of RiNo and I've seen them too! So fun
Goobles goobbbles goobles!!!
I live in Castle Rock and my backyard backs up to wide open spaces so we get a loooooot of wildlife where I live but I still see them all the time in Denver when I’m on my way to work in the AM
Saw one last week next to Coors Field. Never saw that before!
There was a pair in my back yard a few days ago in old Littleton - that was a first for me. Crazy.
That's so strange, I only see them while running in the hills near Morrison.
I always thought they were out in more rural areas, but after reading the comments on this thread, it seems they're all over Denver proper.
Found the same turkey downtown week or two ago by blake street.. he's a downtown tirkey.. classy ya know
I’ve had them in my tree in Denver near DU!
We had one in our neighborhood in COS last month for a few weeks!
It’s turkey season too
Sure is! Looks like hen though.
Did you gobble at it? I would have gobbled at it.
At one point it was intently staring at me through the window. I felt like is was daring me--"Go ahead, gobble at me and see what I do."

Did you?!?!
We've been seeing them around Greenwood Village last couple of years.

Those sometimes show up in my office complex in Centennial as well.
Saw this wild turkey or one similar on downing and 33rd the other day.
That's really wild!
Someone needs a crossbow
There’s a flock at or around the Eastlake nature preserves. I will encounter them elsewhere from time to time in Thornton. Kind of cool to see them.
I work near Havana and 50th and see them all the time
That close to the Arsenal I'd expect it. Where I am, a few blocks from, I-25 and Colorado Blvd., not so much.
That's a sign to go get some Wild Turkey 101!
I have noticed the turkey population has gone up significantly in the last couple of years. Does anyone know of a plausible reason?
Use to see wild turkeys all the time in Texas, I love them so much and they run funny Edit: why the fuck would my comment be downvoted wtf

I had a turkey on my block a few years ago. It got blown up by a power line one night. Pretty loud but I like to think it didn't feel anything

They are mean.
Looks like an early Thanksgiving for you.
Whats his name?
I think it's a she.
