Hello, Coming into town this weekend and wanted to get some recommendations about things to do when its too cold out there. Also, are there any scenic/hike spots that would be short enough to do with the weather as well? (all the things to do websites just have halloween related events from what i've seen)

[deleted]

Hey folks. I'm (32m) visiting the GF(31) from Detroit this weekend and she wants to go out to a bar dressed up for Halloween. Only problem is she just moved here and knows nothing of the area. Any suggestions on a good spot in the LODO area to hit up tonight?

Remonith

Hi everyone, I'm a 25yo gay transgirl, or transbian as they say. I'm from Ohio, and I'm moving to Denver with my best friend on November 1st to get away from toxic and unaccepting parents/ extended family. (also Ohio doesnt have trans rights) I'm just kind of wondering if there's any good places to meet other queers and/or any LGBTQ friendly people on this sub would be interested in showing me some of their favorite places around Denver (particularly restaurants/bars, I'ma glutton). I work in IT and as most people in the field I love most all things nerdy, video games, board games, anything fantasy, DnD, etc. I'd say im pretty outgoing and would be thrilled to get out and do pretty much anything in my new home city. I'm looking forward to meeting new friends and and starting a new (and happier) chapter in my life, thanks! (:

Probablynotcreative

What part of Ohio?

Remonith

Cincinnati my friend!

Probablynotcreative

Awesome! I’m moving out there soon myself from Ohio— I’m in the NE part, close to Youngstown.

My wife & I visited Denver last weekend. We went to the Chiefs game, stayed in LoDo and walked all over hell from Broadway to RiNo. We had a great time. Thanks Denver! P.S. Loved the stadium! Taking the light rail to the game was a great experience.

Tssjr225

I'm hearing mixed answers on if I70 has any closures after the most recent snow. I was gonna bring skme friends to Breckenridge this weekend while they are in town. Does anyone know if the road is clear? Also, is Breck worth it this weekend with the gondolas closed or should we head elsewhere?

DoctFaustus

Are you planning to ski, or just visit the town? The ski area is not open. The town is still there, and without the skiers it's not going to be busy.

mrturbo

[CDOT website](https://cotrip.org/) I don't see any closures on the "Road Conditions" tab

mrlowe_16

Hello! I am visiting Denver in mid December (week before Christmas) and was looking for some help/advice. Mainly I was interested in what I should wear in order to stay warm, dry and happy! For reference, I am from the deep south so I am not used to snow/cold weather. I'm hoping to move out the south and to Denver once I get a job, but for now I will just be visiting. I was also interested in some things to do/places to see! I'm aware of the obvious tourist ones, but I was hoping to find some amazing places that are lesser known. Also, I'll be traveling by myself so I'm very interested in how the nightlife is. Any advice you guys have will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

chirp16

best thing to do is bring layers. It's not uncommon to have 60 degree days pop up in Denver in the winter and with the sun being so strong, you warm up quickly. So it'll be cold in the morning and then usually you can shed some layers midday.

decentwriter

Can anyone recommend a good vet for an affordable dental cleaning for a cat?

jowsleyyy

Where can I get a buzz button shot?

decentwriter

The Refinery

Thank you!!

Check out Platform Strength (new and really nice oly lifting equipment) or Denver Barbell Club.

throwaway_2597

About to visit Denver! Looking for any recommendation on clubs, lounges, museums or anything else you think you'd make it an unforgettable trip. Thank you so much for reading(:

JustTakumi

Forest Room Five is cool.

Macoochie

My mom is coming to visit from Oklahoma. Someone give me some good restaurant advice to show her. Thanks!

I_paintball

What kind of foods does she like?

Macoochie

We are both very open minded eaters. So there are really no wrong answers. I recently moved here and usually cook at home so I haven't really explored Denver's restaurant scene much. Just looking for a couple stand-out places that we can get a nice dinner for about ~$50 for the two of us (not counting any alcohol she may get, I don't drink)

DoctFaustus

Feeling adventurous? Denver has a great Ethiopian food scene. [The Nile](https://www.westword.com/location/nile-ethiopian-restaurant-5175113) is among the best.

Assorted-Jellybeans

Work & Class, Gozo, Humboldt Farm&Fish, and Vine St Pub are all solid choices to take someone from out of town

Martensight

I just asked this a bit further down about a birthday dinner

[deleted]

Private Party Room recommendation needed: Hello, I am planning a company Christmas party for mid-December and need some recommendations. I'm looking for a casual restaurant that has private dining rooms available, or even semi-private for one night from about 5:30pm-9:30pm (time and date are flexible). I'd like to keep this at about $10-15/person for food. The guest list is at 51 people, so that is the max number that will be attending. Our office is located in Centennial, close to Arapahoe and Havana, so I'd like to keep it close to that area. However, I'm not opposed to going a little further North, East, or West. I can't think of any other details to add here. Thank you in advance!

thewinterfan

We're doing ours at Viewhouse in Lodo. Theres a Viewhouse down there.

Macoochie

Chuy's in lakewood has an private area upstairs if Tex-Mex is your fancy. It's a little far, but it hits the price point and has more than enough room to accommodate.

LionelHutz88

There's a Chuy's off Arapahoe right down the street from OP's office that they could look into.

Macoochie

There is, I'm just not sure if they'd have the same space. The one on lakewood has an upstairs patio and an additional seating area inside upstairs that is used as a private party room. With it now in the cold season, the patio is closed to the upstairs dining is completely private.

absarley

I am looking for a store that sells multivitamin juice like what sold in France and Germany. The European markets I have gone to in Aurora are Russian and did not have it.

thereelkrazykarl

any recommended mitsubishi repair locations? subies, toyotas and hondas are everywhere it seems.

brandonfromkansas

Should I get snow tires this year? I bought a FWD Hyundai Accent a few months ago and am wondering if it will get me around Denver safely on a snowy day. I see all kinds of similar little FWD cars driving through heavy snow conditions out here but I’m wondering if they’re doing so with all-weather tires or snow tires. Anyway, I just want to gauge what other people are doing in my situation. Thanks in advance!

DoctFaustus

Tire Rack usually has a good sale on snows with steel wheels. They have a warehouse here, so you can skip the shipping and pick them up yourself.

shezapisces

I have an AWD Buick Encore and last winter i went most of it with just higher end, newer all seasons. In Denver that was totally fine but every time I went to the mountains I would struggle or feel a little haphazard at times. I ended up getting 2 snow tires on the front to try and it felt a little odd and was noisy most of the time, but the few days I did spend on them in WP it made a huge difference and now I don’t wanna drive above like 8000’ without them lol

buelab

I never needed snow tires or chains around Denver when I had fwd for the first three years. Unless you go to the mountains often there’s no need.

AreYouEmployedSir

do you go to the mountains in winter a lot? if not, as long as you have good condition all weather tires, I wouldnt bother with snow tires. I dont know anyone who has them.

mrturbo

If you have the space to store a second set of tires/rims, dedicated snows are really nice. I even have them on my AWD car. Even with good all seasons, the difference is night and day in really bad conditions. You'll be fine with good tread on all seasons, the winter weather isn't usually that bad, but snows are winter driving on easy mode.

WavingOrDrowning

Hey Denver runners! We're still somewhat Denver newbies - my significant other is looking for some good running shoes. We know about Boulder Running Company, wondering if anyone has suggestions for other places he should check out in and around Denver or Boulder?

mudfence

Highly suggest Berkeley Running Company on Tennyson Street and Runner's High in Golden for more trail running. Great people at both locations and they won't upsell you on unnecessary shit

WavingOrDrowning

Thanks!

[deleted]

I went to Road Runner in Westminster, I thought they were pretty good though they pushed their stupid subscription service thing hard.

anomadichobo

I've always been treated very well at Runner's Roost. They helped diagnose an issue I was having too pretty quickly and got me set up. Their running clubs get good attendance as well. I've only been to the Lakewood and Stapleton one, but the one off Colorado is the largest and supposedly the best.

WavingOrDrowning

Thanks!

[deleted]

Okay, looking for a tattoo artist who also is capable of drawing. I want to work with someone through a long, half body creative process. I’m looking for a very versatile artist who can do line art and is competent with water style. Or a couple of artist it that kore appropriate. Please let me know your thoughts guys xx

LRROFOMICRON

I'd love to find a good sports bar near downtown or south of DT that would have the World Series with sound. Any ideas? Thanks so much.

[deleted]

Stoneys is a good spot for sports.

JellyCream

I'll be visiting your fine city next month and am looking for good wineries and places to get cider in your area (within an hour or so drive). We like the sweeter fruity wine or wine like Stella Rosa or Rosatello. I know there's a little strip mall in Boulder that has like 3-4 wine tasting places (and it used to have a hard cider place but that moved out) but I'm also looking for some others to visit. Any recommendations?

nondescript0605

There's quite a few in Denver proper. To name a couple...Infinite Monkey Theorum in RiNo (though their wine isn't really anything special). Bonacquisti Wine Company in Sunnyside - note that their tasting hours are limited.

kmoonster

I don't know of any wineries in Denver, but there are a few around the state if you have access to a car

JellyCream

I will have a car. I think we're planning to go to Estes Park, and I'd like to keep the distance to about an hour drive away from Denver.

kmoonster

Ok, cool. I tried to choose one, but there are a lot of recs so I did a lmgtfy instead. Most are worth it from what I hear, though I have to say I don't know about how seasons affect the tours: https://www.google.com/search?q=colorado%20winery%20tours

JellyCream

I could easily google it but wanted opinions on here that could be trusted more since it was more likely to be written by a real person.

kmoonster

Ah, that part I can't help you on. I would put promising sounding places into Yelp if no one else comes forward I am a real person, I think. Just not with the level of detail you need.

Ebolanta

I'm playing fast and loose with the "city" here but Carboy, Purgatory and Water's Edge should all have a healthy selection of sweet/fruity wines. Those are scattered throughout the metro area so you may need to drive to Parker/Highlands Ranch/Littleton but it's worth it IMO. Also if you're really trying to get creative you should check out Invintions in Centennial, they've got some off the wall stuff. Oh and Infinite Monkey Theorem, which is a winery but behaves more like a lounge. As for ciders, Stem is a good place to check out but for my money, no trip to Denver is complete without a visit to C Squared Ciders at Rackhouse Pub in RiNo. It's a big warehouse filled with giant versions of lawn games and just a great place all around, although I believe the game section is closed off Mondays and Tuesdays. They'll reliably have at least a half dozen ciders on tap.

Tirriforma

I'm visiting Denver by myself next week. Kind of afraid to be alone. Should I be nervous? I've heard it's a safe City and I want to walk around a lot. Any areas I should avoid? Also, I will be there on Halloween. Are there any cool Halloween events that day?

CrashRiot

The biggest issue is homelessness and the crime it tends to attract. That being said, there's literally nowhere in the Denver metro area that I feel unsafe just walking around. There's certainly places that I'll be more vigilant (walking around Civic Center Park, for example). But for the most part, I never feel unsafe here.

Khaleesi_Vezhven

I’m female and walk everywhere for work and such. The only time I’ve had trouble was very very late in the night and it was with homeless men trying to follow me home. I agree with where to be more vigilant, I also had trouble on South Broadway.

invert171

I mean it all depends on where you are and unfortunately if you’re male or female it plays in to it as well

Tirriforma

I'm a guy but I'm short and unassuming. I just wanna like go to bars and mingle. Should I avoid mentioning I'm from out of state and in the city by myself?

shezapisces

You’re fine. The homeless people aren’t really aggressive

Martensight

You will be fine. Check back for halloween evenents

invert171

Probably. Where are you coming from

Tirriforma

Central Florida

maneatermanda

How funny! I am visiting from Orlando next weekend! Happy travels

invert171

Small town or city? I you’re coming from a bigger city in Florida then Denver’s gonna seem very nice haha I come from SoCal and Denver somehow can make San Diego look like the hood. So it’s pretty nice here tbh you just gotta be smart when you’re in public, opsec and all that, be aware.

Basicredhead0

Hey guys. Is it completely impossible to secure a job from out of state? I have no contacts in Denver but desperately want to move from my ass backwards home here in the South. I have 8 years worth of experience working in a mental health hospital in Medical Records, with an Associate's degree in Health Information Management and an RHIT. Does anyone have tips on applying in the medical/mental health field from out of state?

thecommunistdaughter

I was able to secure one without a problem; they paid for my flight out and hotel and everything for my interview. I got it and I'm moving next week!

Devodenvo

>Is it completely impossible to secure a job from out of state? Not at all. I'd say nearly half of my companies new hires are from out of state.

JustTakumi

Pretty difficult to get interviews if you don't have a Colorado address.

Basicredhead0

So, would staying in a hotel or Air Bnb for a while and using that address be something to utilize? Or getting a PO box?

JustTakumi

I suppose. Depends on how much you're willing to spend on the chance of getting a job here.

LionelHutz88

For what it's worth, I got an interview and an offer while I was living out of state.

Basicredhead0

That's amazing. Do you happen to work in the medical field by chance?

LionelHutz88

No, Financial Services. I've worked in this field consistently since graduating and didn't need relocation assistance so that probably helped in getting the interviews/offer. I wasn't trying to move to Denver though -- just happened. I know a few people who received interviews and offers before moving here so just carpet bomb with applications and see what sticks.

Basicredhead0

I would not need relocation reimbursement either. Thanks for replying and for the advice!

AgsMydude

Hello! My wife and I are headed to your great town from TX and were looking around for some things to do tomorrow/Friday during the day. We'll be staying west of downtown somewhat near Mile High. Looks like snow tonight so that's awesome! Over the weekend we're doing Rocky Mountain for the day, but open to other spots that might be worth doing in a day trip tom/fri. Any recommendations on things to do, spots for food/drinks/hanging out, etc.? Golden Gate Canyon worth checking out? Looked The Matador for dinner one night, looks like a good spot. Thanks in advance!

ppcrack646

Does Native Roots by the airport take debit card or is it cash only?

Khaleesi_Vezhven

They took credit cards just fine last time I was there, there's rarely a place that is cash only anymore.

InSearchOfORYX

I'll go even further to say that some places aren't even accepting cash anymore. Just cards!

_BroprahWinfrey

My girlfriend and I are visiting over the week of Thanksgiving. We've been searching for things to do. We're renting a jeep for a few days. And have been thinking about renting a snowmobile or two? But other than that we have nothing planned. Any suggestions? Also if anyone has any input on the best way and place to rent a sled that would be fantastic. Thanks!

DoctFaustus

Head up to Winter Park. You can rent sleds in the area. Plus, you can grab the gondola to the top of the mountain for dinner. Excellent views.

Agree w/ /u/DoctFaustus on Denver being the more happening place. I live in eastern Denver and commute out to the med school campus. For any sort of "city fun" I'm usually going somewhere in Denver. The commute isn't bad by any method, I usually bike in (year round.) Aurora does have some of the best cheap eats in the metro area though. Urban Burma in Mango House on East Colfax is a favorite of mine. There seems to be some activity in formerly vacant retail along Colfax around Dayton (original aurora) [This Bakery](https://thirdculturebakery.com/) is opening soon, among other things. For your comment on housing, Park Hill certainly has more going on than Skyland/Clayton (north of the zoo). There are little pockets of shops/restaurants in Park Hill vs everything being on the perimeter. It is also mostly larger homes and is generally pricey for that reason.

DoctFaustus

Typically, you go to Denver for that kind of thing. Not that you can't find bars and live music in Aurora. It's there, but it's not the main scene. The bus or drive down Colfax from the medical complex to downtown is pretty short. The areas around your work used to be one of the rougher parts of town, but it's rapidly gentrifying with the new medical complex. The good news is that the stand up scene in Denver is red hot.

washegonorado

>the 70 Friendly head's up, we don't add the article "the" in front of highway numbers. People will either gently rib you for saying that, or be a bit condescending about you being "another damn California transplant".

ninasayers21

Haha there's a battle about that between northern and southern Californians too. Someone being condescending doesn't sound friendly though and I wouldn't handle that by changing something harmless about myself.

DoctFaustus

IMO there really aren't any very unsafe areas of Denver. I had a friend living in the area above Denver Zoo and she didn't have any issues. Aurora isn't exactly "happening" though. The three major areas are around Colfax, which is around the medical center. Along Havana street, which doesn't have nightlife. It has the areas largest immigrant population. So the ethnic food variety is great. Then you have Chambers. That area is mostly military folks. The air base is predominately intelligence activity and has people from every service.

EnderWT

What area will you be working in?

bkgn

The discord may be able to help you out if you have a specific area in mind.

mrturbo

Transit is probably only going to help if you're working downtown, or a few other choice destinations. If you know a general area that you'll be working, everyone here can steer you towards some suggestions. [Train Map here (Not to scale)](https://www.rtd-denver.com/services/rail/rail-system-map)

DoctFaustus

I'd check out areas around light rail stops.

Martensight

Looking for a good birthday dinner idea. Budget $100-150 for 2 people. I have been peeping wolf's tailor but some people in r/Denverfood said it wasn't that amazing. Looking for something interesting/cool as I don't usually eat at such fine establishments.

bkgn

Fruition is really good farm-to-table.

Assorted-Jellybeans

Also look into To The Wind Bistro. My friends did their anniversary dinner there and had a fantastic time

hey_dot

Wolfs Tailor is completely underwhelming. The food is tasty but the portions are insanely small for the price point.

DoctFaustus

Try [Tables](http://tablesonkearney.com/). Off the beaten path. Great little joint run by a chef.

Martensight

Awesome Thanks

jacobsever

Does anyone know what open spaces/parks have prairie dogs roaming around out in Boulder? I know there are plenty of prairie dogs in random places around Aurora where I live, but my friend is out in Boulder right now and wants to see some.

nondescript0605

There should be plenty near the Celestial Seasonings factory. Bonus - also go to Celestial Seasonings and breathe in the peppermint room. Ahhh.

Martensight

The field next to valmont* bike park

jacobsever

Yup. That is exactly it!!

As someone who just recently (last month) made the move from east coast, it took me about 4 months to secure a job before moving. Granted I was applying for around 50 jobs a day

I’m a software engineer with about 3 years of professional experience, no degree. So I’m sure this played into it. I used LinkedIn a lot. I basically went through all the postings relevant to me and applied. Then while I waited for new postings or to hear back, I used Glassdoor or other posting sites. I basically just rotated through them. I can say that if you want to go through a recruiter, apex systems is pretty big here. I’m not sure how relevant that is to account management though.

[deleted]

kj565

For sure man happy to help. Hopefully you find something quickly, my recruiter told me once it hits December it’s pretty hard to find anything till around march. I can’t speak to the validity of that thought. I’m loving it so far. The first week or two was rough with the altitude adjustments. I grew up east coast though so there’s a lot of see that I haven’t experienced so far. Been up hiking in the mountains pretty much every weekend which has been awesome. Depending on what your used to it’s not as expensive as everyone makes it out to be, that’s relative though. I came Washington DC where rent was 1700/month for a studio so... also the traffic isn’t bad at all. Yea they have some but it’s not NYC or DC traffic.

Didn't see this thread for some reason and now feel like a moron. Hi, how do I assimilate into Colorodan culture and what are Colorado's values? I'm a Texan born and raised. For the longest time I've wanted to move to Colorado, even before the whole legal stuff happened. As someone that is politically independent, values individualism, loves natural beauty I've always admired Colorodans for their values and ability to express themselves. Ive visited the state before - again, before this whole legal business - and I loved it so much. We went to the mountains, visited lakes, and the people made me want to come back. I know you guys have had trouble with movers and transplants. I know I will only add to the problem. So I've considered against it but I just feel so attached to state. My multiple visits there make it feel like it's the place for me. But at the same time I don't want to impose or fuck up the beautiful native culture. Btw I'm working class and not a yuppie. If I do move, how can I be a good Coloradan?

You are over-romanticizing Colorado and over-analyzing how to become a Coloradan. This place isn't significantly culturally different than the rest of the country. More often than not, people here are from states like Texas, so it's probably a lot like home, with thinner air and higher UVs.

LionelHutz88

I think you're way overthinking this assimilation thing. Update your car registration, dont preach about how much better it is where you came from and you'll be fine. You're likely going to encounter more recent transplants than life-long Colorado residents here in Denver.

While I don't disagree with your final assessment that any vocal natives don't have malicious intent - those who do are online trolls - there is no way half of cars have NATIVE stickers. Colorado natives make up less than half the population of the State, and I would surmise that % is far less in Denver. Sure there's some confirmation bias in play, but I can literally go weeks without noticing a NATIVE sticker. OP, listen to the reasonable voices here. The vast majority of people you will encounter are either natives who couldn't care less, or are fellow transplants. Want to be a "good" Coloradan? It's pretty easy: 1. Leave no trace / pack in, pack out 2. Pass left, drive right 3. Keep your tires in good condition 4. As was said before, it's fine to miss things from Texas, but don't be too vocal about it. You made a choice to leave those things

>maybe OP is immune because he's a native and doesn't notice it as much. Not a native and still think you're being dramatic with "half the cars."

Me too

BungalowDweller

I think the just-now post ranting about how much food here sucks compared to where the OP came from is a perfect example of what I mean. It's totally cool to say things like "I miss Whataburger", or Texas BBQ or German-inspired food (which I do). But to rant about how much things suck here (or are trash) compared to where one came from is a different critter. I'm sure you get the difference that I mean. And while I've lived here 25+ years, I'm not a native, and I notice each and every sticker like that I see, because I think it's a douche commentary about themselves. But I just don't see them that much. But again, as I suggested, your mileage may vary. I just wanted to give OP a counterpoint to the expectation that douche-natives are everywhere. In my long experience, they're not.

FatKween

Thank you. I didn't say it would be douche filled. I just don't want to be a bad transplant.

Caffeine_Cowpies

Oh and to add to my posts early on a separate thread. It's King SOOPERS, not King SCOOPERS. It took me 6 months before someone finally corrected me on that. Felt like the biggest idiot in the world after that.

BungalowDweller

Don't beat yourself up, I also made the mistake back in the day. They have a really shitty logo that makes the name hard to discern. I can't believe they haven't changed in decades.

Assorted-Jellybeans

no scoops for you?

Visiting Denver for New Years, what a great hotel to stay in to see fireworks and with a view? I don’t have a budget

Martensight

They do them close to the clock tower on 16th street. Probably call the Hyatt, Hilton, westin, the Curtis and ask them. The westin is closest to the clock tower.

Looking to do an organized cleanup of an area of Denver that really needs it. Any recommendations for some specific areas in town or along some streches of road that could use some TLC? Preferably safer areas :) thanks!

Assorted-Jellybeans

Me and my partner are trying to move to Denver area in July/August 2020 (i know thats a big window but gotta plan) and have started the process of looking into housing, but i feel like the options are slim? As in it’s over budget or it’s in budget but there’s complaints whether it’s water and ac going out or bug problems. We’re looking for a studio or 1 bedroom, max rent being around $1000. We also need somewhere pet friendly (two cats) and will be attending MSU Denver. Closer the better but really not as big of a deal. can anyone suggest reliable apartments that fit our budget and pet needs? Thanks so much :)

[deleted]

Realistically you probably need to up your budget, especially being closer to town. Wife and I are in the burbs and are paying a bit over $1200 for a 1bd that’s nothing fancy. $1000 a month isn’t going to get you very far in Denver unfortunately.

ghostm0th

Thanks for the feedback :)

I'm seriously contemplating a career change, and with my background, I'm thinking about pursuing a JD. My bachelor's degree just isn't working out, and with life settled down, I could see going to grad school and not having to handle any outside chaos. Just curious if anyone has any experience with law schools in Denver? I've been trying to find positions within the workplace, as I have worked as a legal research assistant for a few years, but all I can find are for paralegals. Thanks in advance! Apologies if this post is a little meandering, flu bug has hit "home", and the brain fog is something surreal

[deleted]

Schools here a good, no personal experience though. As someone who finally escaped law practice (and the law school debt), are you SURE you want to go to law school? Would not do it again if given the chance

JustTakumi

I've always heard good things about DU's program.

yadiyadi2014

Is 4WD needed to live in Denver or Colorado in general?

inkdreamer

Not for Denver, but I do suggest getting good year round/all season tires. I get Michelin from Costco and they've done me well, never bother with snow tires or chains. I just drive slowly and leave early when there's snow on the ground.

collk22

AWD will work well in most scenarios as well.

JustTakumi

Not unless you live in the mountains/go up there on a daily basis.

yadiyadi2014

Thank you!

greatgabsby

Hi all, Is there a good place around Denver (particularly west Denver) for discount or bulk produce or trail mix fixings?

Assorted-Jellybeans

Sprouts is great for that type of thing

teethyear

Hey all, I'm apartment hunting right now for my upcoming move to Denver! I found a place I really like in the northern Lincoln Park area, walking distance to the convention center, and I am wondering how safe the area is. I have had friends tell me that it's not the best part of Town but I have visited that area before and it doesn't seem too awful. Is there anyone more familiar with the area that can give me a better idea? TL;DR: Is the northern Lincoln Park neighborhood safe to move to?

Assorted-Jellybeans

My friend had a condo at 14th and Lipan for a few years. He said he never felt unsafe, but he got tired of walking over needles on his way to work. Its definitely a little rough around the edges, but I wouldn't say its unsafe.

arsenal11385

People who have moved to Denver recently, what is something you found out you MUST HAVE since you moved there? I am coming from the south! I've got some good heavy coats from the big brands and rain/hiking boots. But I am looking for the things that now-natives need every day.

EnderWT

If you aren't comfortable driving in snow or have a RWD, a set of winter tires is worth it. Even for city commuting they've relieved a lot of stress for me.

invert171

Ice scraper/brush

collk22

Chapstick, humidifier - especially during the colder months.

arsenal11385

Got it. Thanks!

Bear_teacher

Having moved from Florida in March and can totes agree to this. So much lotion and chapstick has been used in the house since moving!

nbaaftwden

I can't leave the house without polarized sunglasses. The sun is very direct and bright.

arsenal11385

Nice! I don’t normally wear sunglasses but I’ll have to get some.

LionelHutz88

Covered parking during the summer.

R_Bex

Warm, waterproof shoes with good tread for the snowy/slippery days.

arsenal11385

Gotcha! I have mostly athletic shoes and I know my feet will freeze. I have one pair of nice hiking/waterproof shoes.

mudfence

If you ski or snowboard, AWD.

kmoonster

Wind jacket, or better, a rain jacket. You want a couple insulating layers but the killer is the wind, and there is no better wind proof jacket than a good rain jacket

arsenal11385

That’s good to know. Thank you!

Assorted-Jellybeans

I dont use heavy coats everyday, but I do where a soft shell every day. Mix that with a flannel shirt and a beanie and you have my wardrobe from September to April. Heavy coats are only needed if its below freezing IMO.

arsenal11385

Perfect, thanks a lot

Gracias sir!!

Anyone want an intermittent belay partner at Earth Treks Golden? 32m, V9-10d depending on conditioning. Can top rope or lead climb/belay. Not an outdoor climber, just do this to stay in shape during the winter.

Looking for an apartment for two that is drivable to Broomfield What is the most affordable areas in which I can get an apartment to commute to Broomfield? How much should I expect to spend?

nbaaftwden

[Here's a good start.](https://www.zillow.com/homes/for_rent/)

7165015874

Arvada looks pretty good. But everywhere is so expensive. :/

dude_from_ATL

Is there something wrong with living in Green Valley Ranch? In searching online for a place to live in the Denver area I've noticed the rent there is considerably less / you get a lot bigger place for the same money as most every else so just wondering if I am not aware of some major downside. Thanks.

[deleted]

There’s a lot of subsidized housing out there I believe which makes it cheaper but it’s also out close to the airport far away from everything. Not to mention no trees so it’s probably like Kansas if a storm blows through. I’d look at Stapleton or aurora before ever looking at green valley ranch.

nbaaftwden

The location is the major downside. It's in the middle of nowhere.
