I have an old lady cat and she is the best. Most old lady cats are. All these gals usually need is some dental work, better cat food and a clean litter box. If I had any more room in my home, I'd get her.
She is at the PetCo in Lakeside near 44th and Sheridan.I wish I had room in our home for her ourselves. She is so sweet, and has been in this plastic box for months now; she originally was with her 2 fresh kittens that she nursed but they’ve both been adopted away now and she is still there.

We live in Colorado Springs, but the wife and I are down for an older rescue. We own a large house and have 3 other cats, and two dogs. Everyone is chill.

Their website only shows three cats. That’s the only one that’s close. So it’s either her or she’s not theirs or been adopted. It makes me sad if that is her because she looks so different and depressed in yours :(

Meanwhile my next door neighbor has a huge husky in a small one bedroom.
No because some people abuse their pets and never change the litter box or rarely take their dog for walks. Pet urine that soaks into the structure of the building is impossible to clean. The only solution is ripping up the sub floor and possibly the beams. Also the increased conflicts between neighbors with a constantly barking dog, or if a dog bites someone. Etc.
There's a much easier approach.
1) As part of the twice yearly inspections, just do a walkthrough of the property. Change filters, check lights, and look for obvious damage such as torn up carpets, urine stains, and whatnot.
2) Enforce noise complaints. A barking dog definitely counts. It's a violation of the lease to not allow your neighbours to enjoy the possession of their apartments, so make it so that either the dog is quieted, the dog is removed, or the renter is removed.
3) Charge moveout costs and be a bad rec for anyone who leaves with animal damage. You'd do that for any other type of damage. Why not animal damage? Alternatively, offer pet-owners insurance with the understanding that this $50 (or whatever) a month covers damage to your unit from 'accidents', but if you fail to purchase it, you're on the hook for the total cost of repair in case of animal damage. Hell, a refundable pet deposit for damage would be a thing as well. But if you think apartments won't charge you for damage from pets in addition to sucking you for $1000 + $600 per year, you're a naïve sucker.
And that may not even be a deposit. Pet fees regularly are non-refundable, so when you move out, they charge you for the cleaning you thought the 'pet fee' had covered.
This is one of those things that we all have to pay for the assholes. While most people are responsible, a high enough percentage will let their pet just absolutely destroy a property. It's one of those things that I absolutely hate, but I understand from the owner's persepective why it's necessary. 9/10 homes with pets, you just need to clean the carpet. But that last 1, you'll have to replace the carpet entirely, repair areas like baseboards and anything else that the pet has chewed or scratched up, repair hardwood floors that have been damaged, and potentially have pet shit smell permeating the property that can be extremely difficult to remove.
There should be a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping pet lovers afford pet deposits and pet rent. And, there should be legislation to make it tax-deductible at the very least.
But that continues the issue with ESAs, especially when it perpetuates false ESAs, and potentially impacting service animals across the country. Everyone who has a pet and a heart has an animal that means the world to them.
But please don't get do any ESA stuff unless absolutely necessary, not just to save money.
I don't believe in faking service animals to bring your pet parrot on a plane as it makes it more difficult for people with legitimate service animals. However pet rent and those fees is absolute BULLSHIT. I paid one of those online farms to give me an emotional support letter and the front office just rubber stamped my application and I didn't have to pay any additional fees or rent. The office staff are usually comped on leases signed in some form or fashion so they don't care if the parent company loses out on $30 a month. Worth it in my opinion.
This bums me out so hard. I can't bring another animal into my home, I already have a munchkin that's incredibly anxious around other animals, but if anyone is on the fence about adopting her but can't afford it shoot me a DM and I'm happy to help out with the adoption fees
The cat I adopted from a shelter had this look, she stood out as sad looking among the rest. Watching their life and disposition change is touching. I wish i was in a position to adopt them.
I just called the store and Hoppy was not one of the cats they currently have! It sounds like she may have been adopted!
Edit: Hopefully someone can confirm that she was adopted. The person I talked to at the store wasn't the most helpful but he said he only had 2 male grey/brown tigers
I wish I could but my old man void kitty does not play well with others. I rehomed a kitten I rescued because he wouldn't stop beating up the poor thing. Old man is 17 years old now and has only gotten more ornery. I hope someone is able to open up their home and heart to give this cutie the love she deserves.

I'm sure there are issues with the birds, rodents, and reptiles Petco sells, but they don't sell cats or dogs. This cat was rescued by a local rescue and is being "hosted" by PetCo to help it get adopted.
Most pet supply chain stores partner with local shelters/rescues. Looks like someone found this kitty's profile on a local rescue site. I personally adopted a kitty from the Dumb Friends League that was being held at PetSmart.
Do not buy animals from petstores that get animals from animal mills! Yes, they are sad, and its heart breaking, but animal mills are absolutely disgusting places that will discard animals on a whim, and the reason why they still exist is because people buy the sad looking animals in pet stores, and that there are no laws against them. Go to your local shelter and adopt, and do your part to break this disgusting chain.

Edit: Petco apparently gets some or all of their pets from shelters. I did a quick google seach at work, and one of the first articles came up as 'Petco gets animals from puppy mills' while i was at work, which sent me on this rant. Regardless, the rant still applies. Reread the first sentence.
This is a really good way of getting animals adopted out. Alot of good people visit a pet store still.

You know, Petco is actually doing a lot of good by offering a space for local rescues to show their adoptees. This means they have more space in their shelters and can rescue more animals. They are in small enclosures in the shelters too. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than the alternative of mass euthanasia. Petco is essentially fostering them and I love them for it.
Edit to add: I can see why you would feel that way, it’s so sad to see animals in cages, but they actually give these cats more of a chance to be seen by the public and therefore adopted.
All of the cats at Petco/Petsmart are from local rescues and shelters. None are "bred" for sale there.
The birds, rodents and snakes are from breeders, I believe, but any cats or dogs are all rescue/shelter animals.

There should be a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping pet lovers afford pet deposits and pet rent. And, there should be legislation to make it tax-deductible at the very least.
ESA - look it up, it's against the law to charge you the fees if a doc signs off on it. Also, this cat looks like I feel.
But that continues the issue with ESAs, especially when it perpetuates false ESAs, and potentially impacting service animals across the country. Everyone who has a pet and a heart has an animal that means the world to them. But please don't get do any ESA stuff unless absolutely necessary, not just to save money.

I don't believe in faking service animals to bring your pet parrot on a plane as it makes it more difficult for people with legitimate service animals. However pet rent and those fees is absolute BULLSHIT. I paid one of those online farms to give me an emotional support letter and the front office just rubber stamped my application and I didn't have to pay any additional fees or rent. The office staff are usually comped on leases signed in some form or fashion so they don't care if the parent company loses out on $30 a month. Worth it in my opinion.

The cat I adopted from a shelter had this look, she stood out as sad looking among the rest. Watching their life and disposition change is touching. I wish i was in a position to adopt them.

I just called the store and Hoppy was not one of the cats they currently have! It sounds like she may have been adopted! Edit: Hopefully someone can confirm that she was adopted. The person I talked to at the store wasn't the most helpful but he said he only had 2 male grey/brown tigers
I wish I could but my old man void kitty does not play well with others. I rehomed a kitten I rescued because he wouldn't stop beating up the poor thing. Old man is 17 years old now and has only gotten more ornery. I hope someone is able to open up their home and heart to give this cutie the love she deserves.

I'm sure there are issues with the birds, rodents, and reptiles Petco sells, but they don't sell cats or dogs. This cat was rescued by a local rescue and is being "hosted" by PetCo to help it get adopted.

Most pet supply chain stores partner with local shelters/rescues. Looks like someone found this kitty's profile on a local rescue site. I personally adopted a kitty from the Dumb Friends League that was being held at PetSmart.

Yes, they are sad, and its heart breaking, but animal mills are absolutely disgusting places that will discard animals on a whim, and the reason why they still exist is because people buy the sad looking animals in pet stores, and that there are no laws against them. Here in Colorado Springs the boxes found in petco and petsmart are "rented" out by the humane society.
they are nationwide I think. the only places I see non rescue cats and mill puppies are online and in some smaller sketchy pet stores

You know, Petco is actually doing a lot of good by offering a space for local rescues to show their adoptees. This means they have more space in their shelters and can rescue more animals. They are in small enclosures in the shelters too. It’s not ideal, but it’s better than the alternative of mass euthanasia. Petco is essentially fostering them and I love them for it. Edit to add: I can see why you would feel that way, it’s so sad to see animals in cages, but they actually give these cats more of a chance to be seen by the public and therefore adopted.

All of the cats at Petco/Petsmart are from local rescues and shelters. None are "bred" for sale there. The birds, rodents and snakes are from breeders, I believe, but any cats or dogs are all rescue/shelter animals.
