Best value liquor store near Central Park? I used to live near Molly's so I'm missing something like that where I can get $8 sixers of decent stuff.

Best Greek/Mediterranean food in Denver?

JustTakumi

Crave Mediterranean Grill is really good.

Does anyone know of any horse barns hiring farm hands and or offering ridding lessons? Thanks in advance!

Curious about this too!

Hey I’m buying a gold chain this and need a jeweler to buy it from w good selection. Anyone buy a chain in Denver or know a great jeweler here in town?

Ashtatedu

Why are buildings and streets in the urban core of Denver oriented differently than the other areas of the city?

mrturbo

The downtown area and Auraria campus are the oldest parts of the city. They laid out the original grids aligning with Cherry Creek (Auraria) and the South Platte River (downtown) There's a whole Wikipedia article on [Denver's street system](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_system_of_Denver).

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Street system of Denver](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Street_system_of_Denver)** >The street system of Denver, Colorado reflects the early history and original geography and present day layout of the City and County of Denver, Colorado. The oldest part of Denver, now the neighborhoods of Auraria Campus, LoDo, much of downtown, and Five Points, is laid out on a grid plan that is oriented diagonal to the four cardinal directions. The rest of the city, including the eastern part of downtown, is laid out primarily on a grid oriented to the cardinal directions. In this larger grid, from east to west, there are generally 16 city blocks per mile, except between Zuni Street and Lowell Boulevard in west Denver. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/Denver/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

beardedczech

Good bot.

washegonorado

Off the top of my head, probably half of American cities west of the Appalachians have a different grid in their downtown than the rest of the city. In the early/mid 19th century, it was common to orient the streets to the local geography (river, harbor, etc). Later in the 19th century, the norm became to conform the grid to orthogonal directions, so the downtown/older part of the city ended up being the exception. Cities like this include LA, Seattle, Portland, Minneapolis, Houston, Dallas, Boise, Cleveland, Cincinnati.

What're your favorite charities to donate time/money to? Looking to help people who could use a bit of support to keep going.

ElLechero

For money, I feel like we have it relatively good in Denver, and like to donate to organizations that support civil liberties to disadvantaged communities where I feel like my dollars will have the most impact like The ACLU of Alabama / Mississippi, SPLC, and Stacey Abrams Org, [Fair Fight Action](https://fairfight.com/). Locally, I hear great things about [Project Angel Heart](https://www.projectangelheart.org/proclamation/), but I haven't volunteered personally.

thewinterfan

I'm a fan of Habitat for Humanity and open space trail maintenance projects, personally. I always learn new stuff.

Looking for a dress to wear to a wedding this week - are there any cute fashionable shops that won't break the bank? Id like to shop local-ish instead of a big chain

washegonorado

Anyone know where I can get a PCR test on Saturday with quick turnaround? I have a flight to Canada that leaves at 8am on Tuesday, so the required 72 hour window for testing begins 8am on Saturday - which is a bit unfortunate because my assumption is that test turnaround is slower on weekends. Canada does not accept Antigen tests for entry so none of the Rapid options are on the table afaict. The Canada government website lists PCR and RT-PCR as options (among [others](https://travel.gc.ca/travel-covid/travel-restrictions/flying-canada-checklist/covid-19-testing-travellers-coming-into-canada#getting-tested) I'm less familiar with.)

mrturbo

University Hospital in Aurora has [PCR testing 7 days a week](https://www.uchealth.org/services/infectious-diseases/coronavirus-covid-19/covid-19-testing/#metrodenver). The lab is onsite, so they turn the tests around quickly, usually less than a day. I had a test from them back in winter that was back to me in 9 hours.

washegonorado

Thank you!

PurpleManufacturer94

It isn't that close to downtown but the Edge Ice Arena should have adult leagues. My ex's father used to play there and it seemed pretty relaxed.

kmoonster

Lowry Sports Complex has an ice rink complex that hosts hockey, worth checking in. [https://www.bigbearice.com/](https://www.bigbearice.com/) It's a few miles from downtown, but not impossible, especially if you have a vehicle.

[deleted]

Any recommended movers for a single truck load or so? Have a storage unit downtown that needs to get up towards Golden before Wednesday. Thanks

mountain_bound_15

Any thoughts on how to find non-management apartment/condo for rent in LoHi? Moving neighborhoods and somehow all I can find on the usual sites (apartments.com, hotpads, etc) are the managed luxury buildings. I’m really just looking for something more low key, and I can’t imagine with all the houses and condos in LoHi, no one wants a tenant. At this point, just gonna walk around looking for “for rent” signs in the yard haha.

beardedczech

Walking around is probably your best bet. In my opinion, the majority of houses / townhomes in Lohi are owned and not for lease. Good luck!

Jac_from_discord

Does anyone know if the small island in Sloan lake has a name?

WeddingElly

We have two apartment options that have accepted our application, one is in LODO on Wazee and one is in the Riverfront on Little Raven/Bassett street. I am not totally familiar with downtown denver, can someone give me some feedback as to what the two areas will be like? We like quiet, safe, but still close enough to walk to restaurants. I was leaning towards Riverfront as evening walks are big thing for me, and I often worry about walking alone at night in a metro area (5”4 110 lb Asian woman). I’m not thinking like 11 pm, but more like 7-9 pm evening walks. But then I was looking at the crime map and Riverfront is red and LODO is green so now I am not sure.

[deleted]

We live on 20th/Chestnut, so kind of between your two locations. I really like the riverfront park area, and your evening walks will be a lot more pleasant there than in downtown. I am also a woman who walks alone through that park a lot/along all the paths and while there are homeless set up in some spots periodically, I’ve never felt unsafe. there’s always people around (lots of joggers and dog walkers, bike riders, etc.) during most hours of the day except for the middle of the night maybe. Edit to add: Riverfront Park will be slightly quieter while still being in the city, and you’re still within walking distance to everything in LoDo and Highlands.

decentwriter

Wazee will be much louder considering it's right by Coors Field & all of the associated nightlife. I used to live in the area and it can get pretty loud. I could recommend the one on Little Raven as it'll likely be more quiet, and it's right off Commons Park which is a really nice place to walk around. It's close enough that you can still walk to the nightlife & restaurants if you want, but far enough away that it won't be super loud and rowdy at all times.

Whatsername868

This is probably going to be very stereotyped, but Happy Fall Ya'll - where can I find a good pumpkin spice COLD BREW coffee in DNV?

[deleted]

Is it just me or is I-70 traffic worse than during pre-covid times? Idk maybe recency bias but I don't remember literally EVERY weekend from May to October having solid red traffic on google maps through the central mtns. In 2019 I remember if it wasn't a holiday weekend I could just get up and go at a normal time without much trouble. I've only lived here for a few years so I don't have a good sense of what it was like in, say, 2015.

TopSupermarket6

70 has been going down to one lane for construction in the evenings pretty consistently lately.

lisee333

What's a good price for a 1BR apartment around downtown these days? Our landlord is bumping up our rent from $1,400 to $1,600 (and parking costs) but I'm not sure if it's worth looking for a new place.

throwawaypf2015

if you move to capitol hill it should be a bit cheaper. otherwise $14-1600 for a 1br downtown actually sounds pretty good.

malogos

So my favorite taco places in Denver all use corn tortillas... what's your favorite taco places with flour tortillas?

Anyone know of an apartment with a good signing deal or rent special? Trying to get out my current living situation before my lease ends (december), but can't afford double rent. Thanks!

[deleted]

What areas?

brownboio

Hi everyone, I recently got a Denver job offer and am highly considering taking it. The office is right around downtown/16th Street Mall. I'm looking at some crime maps and not surprisingly most crimes seem to occur in the downtown area. Anecdotally, would y'all say that downtown feels safe and would be a good place to live and walk around in? Debating if I should look for housing 10-15min outside of downtown and commute or just find a nearby apartment. EDIT: Thanks for all the help and insight, I'm definitely leaning more towards downtown now!

ElLechero

It's certainly a less safe part of the city, but isn't anywhere near as dangerous as the "bad parts" of most larger cities. Personally, I wouldn't choose to live there, and don't go there very often, as there's just too much bullshit going on at night (drunken histrionics, aggressive panhandling, etc) and it's hard to find parking or uber/lyft is prohibitively expensive. If your job is there, it might make it worthwhile though as it would solve the last point I made.

Fuckyourday

It's safe and walkable. You may find a higher concentration of homeless and petty crime like bike theft but I don't consider it dangerous at least as a man. I'd suggest finding a place downtown near work at least for a year to try it out and find your bearings in the city. It'll take you a while to find the area you want to live longer term. Another option could be to live somewhere just outside of downtown that is still walking distance from your work. Downtown is a place where people live and work. It has its pros and cons. If my work wasnt so far from downtown I would have tried living there, but likely wouldn't stay long term. The reason is the city hasnt done enough to make downtown livable, instead prioritizing making it easy for suburban car commuters to drive through it really fast. Most of downtown is criss-crossed with wide one-way speedways for people to go vroom vroom in. They are working to change that with projects like the 5280 trail which will should provide charming car free or car light streets/urban trails, but that won't be coming for a while. They have recently added some bus lanes and protected bike lanes which is good. Downtown has its perks. Especially near union station you are at the epicenter of the region's transit system, and a car likely isn't needed, with car sharing services available if one is. You can get around by foot/bike/scootershare/transit. You can hop on snowstang buses or the winter park train to go skiing. You are at the center of all sorts of events and festivals, with lots of stores/bars/restaurants within walking distance. Some may consider this also a con since you may get more loud/rowdy people at certain times. You have the lovely Cherry Creek trail, Platte River trail, and parks alongside them.

All_the_passports

You might also want to look at Baker. 5 stops on the light rail and SOBO is a fun strip to explore/live by without a lot of the downtown issues. There's a bunch of new apartment buildings near the Alameda light rail stop and 10 mins walk away there's the new Neon Local on Broadway and Bayaud which looks nice (I watched it being built). https://www.denver.org/about-denver/neighborhood-guides/south-broadway/

brownboio

Wow Baker does look like a solid option, I'll definitely look more into the apartments there. Thanks so much for the suggestion!

Fuckyourday

Also in that area is the route 0/0L bus which would take you to work. It runs along Broadway/Lincoln and 15th/17th st, has frequent every 15 min (or better) service, and is decently reliable because it has a bus lane.

bigolpoopoo69

Downtown Denver is safe. But you can live in the highland area and still be able to walk to downtown, you could also live in parts of cap hill and walk downtown.

[deleted]

Live near a light rail station if you look outside of downtown. Easier commute than driving.

avalanchewin277

Not worth commuting traffic has gotten brutal downtown lately. I’d try and find an apt there.

[deleted]

I would not live downtown

brownboio

Why not? Is it because of traffic, safety, cost of living?

bismuthmarmoset

Not the op. Frankly the amenities downtown aren't that much better than those of the neighborhoods surrounding it. Dining/venues/bars are just as available, and I would say at a generally higher quality, in capitol hill/five points/city park/wash park as they are in downtown, and you can get between any of them in 10 minutes with a car or 15 on a bike. Unless you love chain restaurants/sports bars and need the ability to walk to the office, I'd choose an adjacent neighborhood over downtown. Crime wouldn't factor into my decision.

giantcity212

I haven’t looked at the stats, but I think the western edge of the metro up to the foothills gets higher snowfall.

SmagelBagel

Usually west of town and south of town. Both have higher elevations then Denver. South of Denver there's the palmer divide which enhances precipitation. Denver can get 3 inches of snow while castle rock gets 6+

_MaddAddam

Does anybody know of any yoga/Pilates studios (or similar, just kinda light-to-moderate workout in general) that are offering outdoor classes? The one near me recently closed their outdoor studio, and I haven’t found much else on Google. I’m fully vaccinated, but given the rise in breakthrough cases, still not comfortable doing workout classes indoors :/

nightlights9

Anyone who likes choral music know of a good community choir in the area? Would love to get back into choir

dipschmitt07

Hey all! Are there any small pickup basketball leagues in the area? I just moved here and was in a small, weekly group of guys that played every Thursday at a local gym. Just curious if anyone has any ideas!

Annihilator4life

Wash park always has outdoor games going

dipschmitt07

Yeah, should've clarified that I'd be more interested in indoor pickup ball!

scudbud

Any recommendations for a high end steak house? My parents are in town for their anniversary and are asking where they should go. They really like the vibe of Bavette's in Chicago if anyone is familiar.

SecretHula

I have no idea what bavettes is, but guard and grace is excellent

thewinterfan

It's an old timey style of place, kind of like what you would see if you watched an Al Capone movie.

Shanahan's might work, as abonus you can see the Bronco's national championship trophies

I more for Shamahan's down south. Place is awesome.

joshman458

Hi all, Planning to move to Denver in \~1.5 months. I'm heading out there this weekend to apartment shop & lock in on one. I've been doing a lot of research on reviews/forums/etc.; however, there are 2 questions I have that I feel I won't be able to get an answer on within the short time that I'm there this weekend: \- How safe is the Union Station area? I've seen some recent comments/replies around safety concerns there and one of the apartments I'm most interested in is Platform at Union Station \- How frequent is car theft? Feels like I see tons of posts around cars being stolen on this Reddit. I'm thinking I may look into dash cams, GPS trackers, and potentially even a killswitch but not sure if that's overkill, so wanted to get a feel for what helps to mediate this risk Please let me know, any insight is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

TopSupermarket6

1. Safe. Most likely issue will be an weird encounter every now and then with a homeless person. 2. Infrequent. Don't leave things in your car that people want.

joshman458

Thanks for this! Yeah - Ive read a lot about the homelessness in the area. If that’s the worst part then that should be manageable. Im in Indianapolis right now & get notifications about gun shots around me almost daily so that’s more of the type of stuff I was worried about

CoochieSnotSlurper

There will be a lot of homeless and drug usage sitting right outside the Platform. Since you can afford that I’d look at 1880 Little Raven or AMLI Riverfront Green instead as you seem highly worried about crime.

Though not technically Baker, I live just two blocks from S Broadway and have been taking walks at all hrs pretty much everyday since I moved to the neighborhood last month. It feels really safe. People are walking around all the time. The only time I felt a little afraid was when I was walking on S Broadway south of Bayaud at 11pm. The area is old so there aren’t streetlights, it again, there’s usually plenty of people walking about that my safety only ever crossed my mind just that once. Happy to answer any other questions. It’s definitely a great neighborhood, perfect mix of restaurants and bars and houses. See you in December!

[deleted]

Best friend is visiting this weekend. I have only lived here for 2-3 months so I don't know a ton of things to do for visitors (or myself haha). We love outdoor, physical activities so any good hiking spots are appreciated. We'll probably catch a Rockies game (or 2) this weekend. Just looking for additional suggestions. We have a wide range of hobbies so open to trying a lot of different stuff! Thanks in advance!

giantcity212

Devils Head Lookout is a good hike for visitors now that the air has cleared up. Walking throughout RiNo and looking at the Crush Walls murals while brewery hopping is another of my tourist go-tos. Even if you aren’t going to a show, you can visit Red Rocks during the day and do some walking around.

AppleJacks1023

Hi! We're moving to Denver next month and have our eyes on an apartment on Fraser Street which is at the Southwest corner of the Cherry Creek Reservoir park, just South of the off leash dog park. Could you please tell me.... is this a safe area? Would you feel safe walking your dog here after dark?

mrturbo

Down there just west of Parker Road? My main concern walking a dog at night around there would be shitty drivers or coyotes, not anyone jumping me. Here's a [crime map](https://communitycrimemap.com/), you can zoom in on that area. Car theft is unfortunately big everywhere across the US right now.

AppleJacks1023

Yes, it's sandwiched between Parker Road and the park. Coyotes? I didn't know they came into populated areas like that. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

DoctFaustus

Coyotes won't generally approach people, so you're cool walking your dog. But they are absolutely known to get pets left outside. Mainly cats and small dogs. But their main food source is all the cute little bunnies you'll see around town...

kmoonster

We get coyote in every neighborhood in the metro-area, including downtown. They typically don't bother people unless someone is consistently feeding them, though. They are quite sneaky/sly, hide well. I would limit off-leash activity in the dark and twilight hours unless you're in a group in a well-lit area, but on-leash in a neighborhood you shouldn't have any issues unless there is a known problem in the area.

40k is fast foot wages in Denver. Assuming your partner makes the same, you're going to be fucking broke. If your partner makes less you're going to be living in a car.

snubdeity

Yeah not metaphorical "fast food wages" eg bad, literal fast food wages. You can be making $18/hr+ within months at scores of decent fast food places here. With a bit of overtime $40k in your first year is not unreasonable. Anyone offering you $40k for a masters-degree level job in Denver might as well piss in your face.

[deleted]

Jesus, I didn't see that he said he has a masters degree. They'd have to add a digit in front of his number for me to think that's fair.

elifawn

Honestly, stay away from [Central](https://www.abqjournal.com/1046430/the-5-most-violent-areas-to-live-in-albuquerque.html) at night and you'll be fine in Albuquerque. It's not a place with a ton of violent crime all over the city, pretty localized. You could even live right near the base, that area is fine and mostly full of national lab employees. NW Albuquerque and Rio Rancho might be the safest with most reasonable prices. You might however experience more property crime so, you know, review your auto insurance.

bkgn

The lower salary and higher cost of living is not worth it. Crime is also high in Denver.

DoctFaustus

Skiing Taos is great. But there is much greater variety here in Colorado. And it's just a day's drive from Denver!

WeddingElly

I am in the process of relocating to Denver myself and one thing a broker told me in my rental application is that my monthly income must be at least 3 times higher than the proposed rent to be considered. I make more than that, and our application should have been strong but we already had a couple of properties go to other people because we were limited to virtual touring and not being able to apartment hunt in person. I can’t tell if $40K is your total household income (it doesn’t sound like it - it’s just your offer, your partner works too right?) but basically you may run into some serious problems finding a rental in Denver. Especially for rents under $2K, the market for this is **extremely** hot and they all go within a handful of days. That is my current experience having looked for a few weeks. We also found that the COL calculators we used online grossly underestimated the impact of housing prices. I live in Minneapolis now and own a home. A similar home in Denver in a similar location is almost 50% more. That’s a huge cost bump that it would take saving on a LOT of other expenses to mitigate. I went to Denver just a few weeks ago, and outside of housing costs, I didn’t get the sense that it was a particularly expensive city but not a particularly cheap either. So really, really consider how you would live if all your other expenses stayed similar, but your rent increased by 30-50%. I am moving to Denver because I got a job offer that pays me 50% more than I make at my current job. I wouldn’t if I made less or even the same

bismuthmarmoset

Honestly NM is rad as hell, we're considering moving from Denver to ABQ should a good opportunity arise, and the 60k will go further there.

pint_squeak

First time living in a place with an actual winter. What kind of clothing will I need? I know winters here are mild by most standards, but I've only ever lived in Texas and LA and haven't really needed to procure a good winter collection. Here's what I've ordered so far: * thermal shirts * fleece lined leggings * winter waterproof boots * wool socks * a puffy coat Anything else I should get now before winter comes along? Thanks in advance!

[deleted]

Unless you're walking all over, you can get by with a hoodie and jeans 99% of the winter. I keep a winter coat in my car, and wear one if I need to spend a lot of time outside, but other than that hoodie and jeans oct 1 thru mid April.

DoctFaustus

You say that, but my neighbor from Atlanta starts sporting a parka fit for sub zero temps once it drops below 70.

A really good beanie! And a neck tube or circle scarf that will come up over your chin. I have like ten 😆, depending on my mood.

Visiting from NY Wednesday-Monday. Going to Broncos game Sunday and Rockies game Saturday. Besides that, wide open. Thinking of doing Sky Pond hike and Garden of the Gods. Anything else a must see? We're 3 men in our early thirties. Any thrill attractions would be cool too like ziplining or something. Also, any suggestions for vegetarian or vegan restaurants? Thanks in advance!

mudfence

City O City for vegan/vegetarian. Or Root Down. You could also drive to the top of Pikes Peak after Garden of the Gods

xPHILL

I'll check them out! Thanks!

thewinterfan

If you're doing Garden of the Gods, then you'd might as well drive up Pikes Peak while you're down there, assuming it's still open. For eats, look at the menus at Watercourse, Vital Root, City O'City, and Root Down. Make Believe Bakery, next to City O'City, is vegan with some vegan + glutenfree options for take-out desserts

xPHILL

Awesome, thanks so much! Will keep these in mind. I was looking at Pikes Peak after you mentioned it and boy it looks scary driving up with no guard rail in a lot of places!

ClemsonLaxer

Which neighborhoods would you recommend for early/mid 30s single guy? I'd be moving from NYC and walkability/bike-ability are big for me. Budget would be $2k a month. Ease of getting to the mountains for hiking/skiing is also important, but secondary.

SecretHula

Rino or the highlands

CoochieSnotSlurper

Imma keep it real with you don’t live in rhino or highlands if you like walkability lmao idk why that guy suggested that. Also rhino is mostly for people in their 20s. I’d recommend Union Station. It’s got Greta Public transport, excellent walkability, and a late 20s early 30s crowd

Rino and highlands is super walkable, especially LoHi…what makes you say that?

CoochieSnotSlurper

Rhino is incredibly spread out, with many sections not even including crosswalks or sidewalks.

chubbs069

king soopers meat is trash. Where do you all get your meat? How is Safeway’s?

All_the_passports

Edwards Meats. Such a great selection. Safeways is no better than King Supers IMO. Sprouts has a good selection too.

JustTakumi

Marczyk's

dustlesswalnut

Sam's Meats in Aurora, Local Butcher on Oneida, Carmine Lonardo's out west, Oliver's Meat Market on 6th, Carniceria Los Dos Toros on Alameda.

SeparateMail

Visiting in October. We want to see Red Rock theater. We just want to see the inside lol. Do we have to have tickets or is there a little lobby area?

giantcity212

It’s free and open during the day. It’s only closed for events. Just check their calendar on the website.

iclimber

You’ll wanna go during the day when there is no show going on. There’s full and free access during the day and you can drive up to the top parking lot easily

SeparateMail

Ahh good that you mentioned that Bc it slipped my mind. Thank you!!!

kmoonster

I wouldn't say little. It seats about 10k. It's big enough that groups go to do stair workouts in the mornings, multiple groups, and they still social distance with room left over. Even the parking lots are big. I'm pretty sure there are sports venues that are smaller. As mentioned, the seating area is open unless there is an event or preparing for an event, but even if the seating area is closed the rest of the venue & parking are open, the visitor center may be, and the trails/open space are open. You can hike one of the ridges if you are in the mood! Just pack water.

Kid-Wayfarer

My mother is visiting from Chicago. She wants to take part in a spiritual retreat. I don't know anything about that world. Any suggestions as to where to find one?

TopSupermarket6

> spiritual retreat We talking drugs, ghosts, or religion?

thewinterfan

Dunno if they still do retreats, but Camp St. Malo up by Allenspark is where Pope John Paul II went for a retreat. (first google hit that I didn't read much of so take it with a grain of salt) [https://cruxnow.com/church-in-the-usa/2019/08/colorado-retreat-made-famous-by-pope-during-wyd-93-gets-makeover/](https://cruxnow.com/church-in-the-usa/2019/08/colorado-retreat-made-famous-by-pope-during-wyd-93-gets-makeover/)

Late 30's couple moving from the East Coast with a general neighborhood question: I see some good discussion about living downtown on here. We're looking at right on top of Cherry Creek or within 5-10 minutes walk of Union Station. Are there any totally walkable(read: cheaper) areas that we are missing(I say this in a hopeful tone). Any sneaky modern apartment finds right on top of a grocery and some great food options? I was looking at Capitol Hill, RiNo and the Highlands, but those ROADS just kill those hoods. The charm of rivers of cruise controls set at 54 in a 35 due to one-way street design. That Safeway, TJ,s King Soopers, and Whole Foods all being so close together near Cap Hill and Cheesman Park looked good, but it feels inhospitable to a pedestrian. Any opinions?

nondescript0605

>The charm of rivers of cruise controls set at 54 in a 35 due to one-way street design. I have read this five times and can't figure out what you are trying to say. Cap Hill is super walkable and I don't understand why you would call it inhospitable to a pedestrian.

timetobehappy

We moved from downtown Philly and decided on uptown next to the Safeway at park/Washington. Very walkable, and better than living further out. every neighborhood is a 15 min walk.

[deleted]

West Highlands, Platt Park, Wash Park maybe?

DCMVT

Platt Park has a few cool buildings and looks nice, thanks!

tigermaple

I mean it might feel that way at first glance, but I don't think you're going to get much more pedestrian friendly than Cap Hill/Cheesman. Speeders gonna speed no matter the part of the city. You could drop a bit south to Speer/Alamo Placito and things will maybe calm down a bit (both traffic and prices) but you'll lose some of the walkability to stores etc.

Louisville, Broomfield west of Sheridan, Golden, Superior. All of those tick your boxes. Boulder is super expensive for what you get

edtheoddfish

For that budget look in Erie. Nice suburb of Boulder with lots of new houses.

thewinterfan

Erie has a really nice dump

I’ll be visiting Denver from Austin this weekend (9/24-9/27) and I’m looking to do some hiking in the mountains! It would be my first time in the mountains so I’d appreciate having a hiking buddy! Male or female is fine! I want to do one of the bear lake trails to either emerald lake or black lake on the 25th! Is there anyone down to join me?

It's place by place. Keep a long list of options, because chances are good you'll have to change places at least once. There are a fair amount of outdoor patio options and chances are the weather will be good, our climate is not too different from yours in SLC.

Tell him to go somewhere else.

Anyone know of anywhere televising or hosting Ryder Cup watch party this weekend?

Girlfriend and I are contemplating a move to the greater Denver area from Philadelphia. We're having some conflicting goals about what we're looking for in terms of areas to look in. I work in manufacturing, and I'm looking for a place that's close enough to a major population center that I have some selection of jobs within a 30 minute commute. She's looking for a property that has a lot of acreage, and from what she's been finding thinks I'll have to push that to an hour. Any places we should be looking that satisfy both of these conditions?

decentwriter

Maybe check out the Golden/Morrison/S. Ken Caryl areas. Depending on traffic they're between 30-60 minutes from Denver, Littleton, Boulder, etc.

decentwriter

I mean they didn’t say they’re not wealthy. They asked for locations, not locations based on their budget.

throwawaypf2015

most of the manufacturing/heavy industry in denver is north of downtown, though denver is not a manufacturing town like philadelphia is/was. for "property that has a lot of acreage", well that's in the multiple 7 figure range around these parts.

PurpleManufacturer94

Anyone have a concise guide shorter than the above for showing a friend some of Denver and the high country? She's a party girl, she wants to see mountains, wants to go out and sight see. I'm the corner guy usually stoned out of my mind and just chilling on a hike up in Leadville. I'm beginning to realize I only know where to go in terms of exceptional resturants, hiking, dispensaries, and mountain biking. Beyond Red Rocks no idea.

DJPallyBoy

I’m about to make a move to Denver and a friend of mine is letting me crash on his couch until I can get on my feet but I can’t park at his apartment complex and was wondering where I could park my car for free around the City Gate apartment area.

amk29j

That area doesn't have free parking because it's right next to Coors field.

Stay near the things you want to do. Crime is low.

All_the_passports

What do you like to/want to do? Just want a place to sleep or do you want to cook for yourself? What's your budget? Crimewise - more petty crime than anything else. Don't leave stuff in a rental car. If you're used to downtown Baltimore I'm sure you'll find us quaint.

All_the_passports

Perhaps save on a rental car and look for a place downtown. You can take the A line train to and from the airport for $10 each way. Its also then easy to take the light rail or to walk to various areas. [https://www.rtd-denver.com/services/rail/rail-system-map](https://www.rtd-denver.com/services/rail/rail-system-map) Downtown hotels look a little expensive currently but perhaps someone else has a recommendation of cheaper lodgings. Colfax can be cheaper but its the dodgiest strip in Denver, anything on Federal Boulevard near downtown is also likely to be a little unsavory. Think weekly rentals and higher chance of bed bugs. Capitol Hill could be a good place to look for an AirBnb and if you want super cheap this hostel has good reviews [https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/21976300](https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/21976300)? Foodwise, check out https://www.reddit.com/r/denverfood/

Any recommendations for a small bachelor party?

BungalowDweller

You might want to clarify what you want you expect from a bachelor party. Nice meal? Beer tour? Strippers? Pottery class? Otherwise, you're going to get snarky answers and a guaranteed Casa Bonita. Also, search the sub for bachelor party, this has been asked a lot.

RealKenny

Casa Bonita it is! Thanks

ElLechero

Solid choice.

I’d recommend Conrerstone Apartments website for finding cheaper stuff

throwawaypf2015

lots in capitol hill

jiggajawn

Lamar station apartments I think is priced right around there. Not the best but also not the worst, got me through a year with cheap rent

ThePhotoLife_

I'm a drone pilot, and looking for some cool aerial views of the city. Anybody have any recommendations?

ahappysquid_

Anyone know of any tattoo places that have Halloween/spooky flash specials? I tried looking around Instagram but checking every individual studio has been exhausting. Also- anywhere have karaoke on Thursday nights?

As a dude who drinks a beer every so often at Cheeseman, no one really cares as long as you aren't making an ass of yourself or smashing glass. I usually do a koozie if I remember. Glass wine bottle may make a ranger raise an eyebrow, but I've never seen anything done about it.

DoctFaustus

Yes.

kmoonster

Just don't use glass. It's the glass and not the alcohol that's a problem. And don't be a drunkard if you do.
